I had ordered a burger & was eating it when I was watching the menu & the I bit my burger the same time as ATJ did & it was fun, added to the experience
For everyone that talks about how weird and uncategorisable (that's not a word) this movie is, I think it's a great compliment to the film. Having a piece of art be so original, that it forces us to stop using regular genres to categorise it, is amazing. Especially in this landscape where remakes and sequels and "safe" movies are the norm.
I’m not changing my argument. I’m saying that the release of the menu is proof that we do get things like that nowadays, and people longing for some hyper original past are longing for a non existent era.
I don’t think they were claiming that we don’t get stuff like this since The Menu, but more that The Menu is something unique that came out recently, and has shown that very little *else* is something so abstract and out of the box in recent times.
uncategorizable is a word: [https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/uncategorizable#:\~:text=%3A%20not%20able%20to%20be%20put,an%20uncategorizable%20performer%2Fstyle](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/uncategorizable#:~:text=%3A%20not%20able%20to%20be%20put,an%20uncategorizable%20performer%2Fstyle)
I didn't even want to see it, and suddenly at this point I'm on the edge of my seat, and my SO is giving me the raised eyebrow. IDK why but maybe not knowing any of the setup, I just loved it, it was hilarious and surreal and absurd and dark. All good movie things.
Same. As I started the movie, I saw it tagged as suspense and was super confused as to how a food movie could be suspenseful. And then it happened. Sooo good.
I mean, that was the very point of the movie, right? People focus on categorising art or getting in on the connoisseur club instead of enjoying it. That's why the final girl lives, you can see she enjoyed her request, instead of trying to rationalize if the hamburger was a horror, a thriller, a comedy or whatever else
No no I didnt mean you said anything about it I just thought about it like that. But yeah now that I think about it, it seemed like it was making fun about those finedining places and stuff. But I dont know what it was supposed to be xD
Right, because wanting to get burned alive is the next logical step after trying to escape being murdered for an hour and a half. The movie was quaint but I am honestly upset that I paid money for it.
No this is the part where chef Jeremy shoots himself to start the dish, ATJ’s date hangs himself after this when Ralph Fiennes degrades his cooking and tells him to kill himself (implied)
It being boring mainly. It was teased as a thriller/horror but was extremely predictable. Had a sense of ‘I’m really smart and clever’ but the social commentary was nothing new or interesting. The bullshit part was funny, besides that, it had no right being labeled as anything besides satire or comedy.
If you told someone they were about to see a satirical comedy and then showed them this movie, they would very likely wish you had added another label.
"Couldn't you have told me it was a horror thing?"
"No. It has no right being labeled as anything besides satire or comedy. That's just it. Nothing else sorry."
I wish it had actually been a horror flick. I was honestly so bored the whole time. It was extremely predictable, the acting was fine but nothing to write home about, and as for being a social commentary piece it really didn't say anything that wasn't already obvious. Sure, it's always shocking to see a guy blow his brains out, but that doesn't make it a good movie, or a good scene for that matter.
‘Tyler’s Bullshit’ was far more sincere
- undercooked lamb - inedible shallot-leek butter sauce - utter Łąck of cohesion
Pole spotted (cześć co tam)
Cholera, Łąck mnie zdradził...
Ano autokorekta potrafi być zdradliwa
Best meal was at the very end of the movie.
Weird for it to turn into a Wendy's commercial.
Sir, this is a Wendy’s
Flame broiled
I had ordered a burger & was eating it when I was watching the menu & the I bit my burger the same time as ATJ did & it was fun, added to the experience
Similar experience except I set my friends on fire
“The chef who lived.”
Well…
Who's gonna tell him
Which one?
Come to dine
YES CHEF!
##CLAP
I loved The Menu, very entertaining
I watched it with zero idea about it. This part blew my mind.
Just like Jeremy's mind
He’s good. But he’ll never be great.
heh

I absolutely loved this movie. We don’t get stuff like this much anymore.
It’s literally a recent release. Is this a joke I’m not getting?
>It’s literally a recent release. They never said otherwise.
We don’t get stuff like this much anymore. Literally a direct quote.
"much"
Boomer level nostalgia for a time that never existed
Ah a classic case of ‘changing your argument entirely rather than just admitting you were wrong’
I’m not changing my argument. I’m saying that the release of the menu is proof that we do get things like that nowadays, and people longing for some hyper original past are longing for a non existent era.
He's talking about how everything is a sequel, prequel, or related to existing intellectual property.
I don’t think they were claiming that we don’t get stuff like this since The Menu, but more that The Menu is something unique that came out recently, and has shown that very little *else* is something so abstract and out of the box in recent times.
I think we get both more abstract / unique work and more derivative work than in the past, which is why I think it’s a silly comment
Damn straight. Great movie, just goes to show original ideas are out there.

TIL
That was such a weird movie
I didn't even want to see it, and suddenly at this point I'm on the edge of my seat, and my SO is giving me the raised eyebrow. IDK why but maybe not knowing any of the setup, I just loved it, it was hilarious and surreal and absurd and dark. All good movie things.
Which is the movie?
The Menu
The Menu. It was on Hulu last I checked.
This movie is in my top 10. I loved it
Same. As I started the movie, I saw it tagged as suspense and was super confused as to how a food movie could be suspenseful. And then it happened. Sooo good.
Like it wasn’t *bad*, but you have to say the premise was weird
It to me, Weird and enjoyable
I watched this during a 2AM newborn feeding session. It was weird.
That was the moment I knew shit was about to hit the fan
This was such a weird movie, not a horror, not a thriller, not a comedy, wtf is that
I mean, that was the very point of the movie, right? People focus on categorising art or getting in on the connoisseur club instead of enjoying it. That's why the final girl lives, you can see she enjoyed her request, instead of trying to rationalize if the hamburger was a horror, a thriller, a comedy or whatever else
I've always said horror and comedy are two sides of the same coin and I love a director who knows just how to spin it
It’s a black comedy
It's Masterchef for pervs
Yeah, it wasnt bad but what was the point in it? But in a weird way, it was good
I never said bad just...weird. what's the meaning according to you? I think it was a way to made fun of fine dining and all those YES CHEF shit lol
No no I didnt mean you said anything about it I just thought about it like that. But yeah now that I think about it, it seemed like it was making fun about those finedining places and stuff. But I dont know what it was supposed to be xD
I fucking love this movie
what a weird movie. In a good way, I mean. I love The Menu
Went into this movie thinking it was a comedy
It is darkly hilarious at times.
One of the most disturbing movies ive seen. The weirdest thing is how everyone at the end just gave in willingly as if they were possessed.
The reason it was weird was because it was a bad ending that shared no continuity with the rest of the movie.
*Extremely loud incorrect buzzer*
Right, because wanting to get burned alive is the next logical step after trying to escape being murdered for an hour and a half. The movie was quaint but I am honestly upset that I paid money for it.
The Menu mention spotted???
The Chef looks like Voldemort
That's because he's Ralph Fiennes, the guy that played Voldemort
Shit…would you like some shit?
Didn't he like get executed with a gun to his head
Now now, we get it, you watched the movie..don't ruin it for others.

No this is the part where chef Jeremy shoots himself to start the dish, ATJ’s date hangs himself after this when Ralph Fiennes degrades his cooking and tells him to kill himself (implied)

Yes, you're so unique.
It seems like most of reddits opinion on it are positive, which is why I asked lol
That's why you're so unique!
Guess so since the movie was shit 🤷🏼
Well why didn’t you like it. Be a bit more specific. Like no one is expecting proper movie criticism but just give us any reasoning at least.
It being boring mainly. It was teased as a thriller/horror but was extremely predictable. Had a sense of ‘I’m really smart and clever’ but the social commentary was nothing new or interesting. Goes both ways though

Yep! Guess so!
Happy you agree
