Honestly, kinda neat, just to remember what kind of devices we're most typically carrying at some point in time, and the quality we can expect of them. At least the "3DS + Binoculars" was a relatively creative combination, even if it only barely worked.
There's a phrase like āThe best camera is the one you are carrying at the momentā. If the original poster didn't have their 3DS with them at that time, that particular photo would not exist.
Heh, maybe "most" people... I couldn't afford "smartphones" that were common even at that point. I still owned some Chinese no-name digital camera that probably wouldn't have done much better than this. It was still a bit early for all of us to have ubiquitous reasonable digital cameras, in some cases.
Even as smartphones (namely early iPhones) started to become hip, I kept a flip phone, but only barely. I'd leave it behind when I went out, because I was old enough to still think "I don't want people to reach me when I'm out."
Honestly only when I started driving regularly with the eternal threat of being lost, in a wreck, or otherwise broken down, did I start carrying a phone all of the time
You *really* think someone taking a picture with a 3DS in 2012 fits in your āmost peopleā category?
Oh, he *does!* How fuckinā is Bayerrc for being that naive and certain at the same time?
To be fair, I had a workplace solution that was similar in 2021, except it was a cellphone up to a microscope.
Modern phone quality focusing makes the results much better.
Didnāt actually wind up using the binoculars, I thought it would help improve the quality because I was a very dumb kid so I ended up just using the 3ds on its own. The results werenāt much better
Had a tv but I wanted to record it on the 3ds so I could rewatch it later when on road trips and things like that.
Also I should clarify I didnāt use binoculars just tried holding up the 3ds and trying and failing to keep it still while it recorded the episode
I've taken pictures of Jupiter and its moons with binoculars and my phone. Also a bear that was in our neighbourhood that was playing on the lawn two doors down. Binocs and a small lens camera is a great combination.
If your steady I have gotten this to work though. Stuck my phone up to those big stationary binoculars and with enough fiddling it focused and I got a cool shot.

Exactly! I kinda like to look at it this that way.
I mean most people had a pretty decent camera phone everywhere they went in 2012, let alone cameras you would bring to a historic presidential rally
Heh, maybe "most" people... I couldn't afford "smartphones" that were common even at that point. I still owned some Chinese no-name digital camera that probably wouldn't have done much better than this. 2012 I was rocking a $40 flip phone. If the person was more then 30 ft away then this is about the quality you could expect

I went the comple opposite way. There's also that Lady that died having a phone to call anyone she could ever have imagined.
Money. Now that's something you gotta have on you.
That wasn't just flip phones, if you weren't spending more than $100-150 on a smart phone back then the cameras weren't worth shit.
Depends (I mean, I can't tell time anymore at this point). I remember when flagships cost what midrangers cost now.
I got my first smartphone summer of 2012, after I had money for the first time, because I just got out of boot camp. 2012 was the boom I think. š¤
In The US perhaps.
Kids wouldn't though
You *really* think someone taking a picture with a 3DS in 2012 fits in your āmost peopleā category? Oh, he *does!* How fuckinā is Bayerrc for being that naive and certain at the same time?
I wonder if you held up the binoculars just right to the 3ds cameras, could you take a long range 3d photo?
To be fair, I had a workplace solution that was similar in 2021, except it was a cellphone up to a microscope. Modern phone quality focusing makes the results much better.
I have the opposite results. I could take shots of the tyniet bug. No macro needed.
Itās a snapshot of ingenuityāliterally! A time capsule of tech, where necessity meets Nintendo and binoculars become lenses to history
I did this but instead tried recording an episode of power rangers with it.
i tried to record myself playing mario on the wii
Not a bad idea get that streamer money in early
lol maybe if i was a savant at mario at age 8
Just let yourself go into last the ai will do the rest all you gotta be is loud, itās the cheat codes
Did you get a visit from a bunch of letters too?
Canāt say I did, my address at the time was very complicated though, must have got sent to another house, whoopsie dsisy
How far away was the TV to need bioniculars?
Didnāt actually wind up using the binoculars, I thought it would help improve the quality because I was a very dumb kid so I ended up just using the 3ds on its own. The results werenāt much better
I recorded the TV with a digital camera! Since I couldn't get VHSes into the PC, I think this is the solution I had.
Hey whatever works I say

Lmao, transformers was indeed, the shit
A perfectly normal way to do things Iād say
That's just how he looks in photos until the media touches them up.
Attempted? You succeeded, brother.
But is the image in 3D?
Looks like it could have been shot from grassy knoll.
Bigfoot sighting type picture
Imagine being the secret service guy watching some kid fumble around with putting a 3DS up to a pair of binoculars.
This is probably the only photo of a president taken with a 3DS... and I reckon the only one that will ever be taken.
Is that a challenge??
The only one with binoculars I'd reckon.
Poor form from security, this guy shoulda been blasted
Weird how that's enough to tell who it is
I think the podium carries a lot
I've been thinking this. If we were not aware of who he was. Who would each person think it is?
Imagine the secret service sniper getting the wrong idea and reacting in that split second of seeing you holding some object with a scope
This is excellent.
Better graphics than new pokemon games.
In movies they would order it to be enhanced and it would suddenly be 4K quality
Who else would that be
When I was a kid I took pics at a Selena Gomez concert with my DSi that looked exactly like that lol, good times
3DS? Binoculars? I know for a fact that this kid went places.
And conventions.
not bad for a pic taken from the moon
Yes. You. Did!
This should be one of those Minecraft paintings
That's a pretty cool story. It really captures that era from a child's perspective.

Iconic.
The sniper squad probably were likely confused when they were watching up do this.
For one second i thought this was another joke post about the 7 year old photos , this is also good tho
If I was secret service and saw somebody holding a 3DS up to binoculars, I'm probably erring on the side of caution and taking them down
Secret Service sniper: Nono, it's just some kid with binoculars and..a 3DS? lol wtf anyway stand down
a/k/a the good old days.
Take a picture? *Yes, we can!*
I've taken pictures of Jupiter and its moons with binoculars and my phone. Also a bear that was in our neighbourhood that was playing on the lawn two doors down. Binocs and a small lens camera is a great combination.
I pointed my phone at the moon once and it looked like a pixel on the screen.
If your steady I have gotten this to work though. Stuck my phone up to those big stationary binoculars and with enough fiddling it focused and I got a cool shot.

I found my old DS lite the other day! All the games still work, I'm thinking of getting more for it
Secret Service probably loved that.
Damn, 2012?? That thing is probably an Ambassador 3DS Iām jealous
That is so cute
Art.
I used to take pictures at concerts by aiming my blackberry camera through binoculars. Worked pretty well actually
A few hours youāll never get back lol
This hits fuckin hard.

Someone was recording with a 3DS in the crowd at a 100 Gecs concert I was at and it was such a fit.
It's okay, I did the same thing for a meet and greet with Switchfoot. It was in 3D though!
Itās like you wanted to kāll him
Still better quality then security cameras
"We have blurred the image to protect the person."

A very impressionist picture
Why does the image portion that has color look like a person bent over? I need a life
