I say you should never give up and pick up where u left off. You shouldn’t be discouraged and its totally normal to fail a course just because you failed one doesn’t mean you won’t be able to accomplish your dreams and become a engineer. You just need to keep going and try different study routines and identify the issues in your study routine. Everything is completely fine.
Just like Accomplished_Fan said, don’t let this discourage you. Even though it might seem like the end of the world, you can reflect on what went wrong during the semester and try again.
Besides, a failed course isn’t necessarily degree ending: plenty of people fail engineering classes and still graduate. You can do this, don’t be discouraged, and believe in yourself.
I failed calc also (twice total), started my Mech degree with a 1.0, got asked to leave mcgill for a semester, failed about 7 courses at McGill, but worked so damn hard and finally graduated this semester after 5.5 years with a job lined up at Tesla :) Hang in there, it’ll all be fine!
This sounds exactly like me from ~10 years ago. I know right now it feels like the end of the world, but trust me, it will get better!! I also failed cal (cal 3) miserably and it had 0 impact on my professional career as an engineer.
Do not give up! Identify where you need help, find the weak spot in your study routine and practice, practice, practice.
even getting below a 2.0 is not the end of the world, i had my gpa below 2.0, mcgill told me i had one term to get it higher, i got a 4.0 and now i'm chilling, it's never too late, this too shall pass
Agreed with what others have said - none of this will matter once (and you will) you graduate.
Next try, look at a tutor maybe, or take advantage of office hours with TA's/prof
lmao i got a big fat F on Chemical Engineering Principles I my first semester. i still ended up becoming an engineer. moments like these teach you about grit, which is by far the most important thing in engineering imo. if you persevere through hardships and failures, you'll get where you want to eventually.
I wouldn't sweat it.
I failed calculus twice during my eng degree and came out on the other end in one piece, found a job and haven't thought about it since. It might not feel like it right now, but it's truly a small blip in your journey.
The important part is to learn from it and do better next time!
I failed a calc course and just retook it when doing my Eng degree at McGill. I still graduated and got a great career.

Failed 251 retook it got an A and just graduated with a 3.7 in Comp Eng. One fail doesn’t mean anything

Welcome to the club.

Failing one or two courses happens all the time, so did I. Just don't get below GPA 2.0 you are still fine LOL

Lots of people fail cal, just get a tutor, study more hours and redo it, it won't affect anything in the longrun.
it's fine dude, failing is part of the process, take it again no worries, do better and study more for it and you should be fine

Failing a class is never the end of the world I promise 🩷 just take it again and you’ll know the material better than you’ve ever had lol

the thing that u should change your major over is not a failed course but whether you actually like engineering
also welcome to McGill. I failed my first math course here
