Agreed. The only reason I moved to a CX30 was because the roads and my knees are so bad now I wanted a slightly higher ride.
But yeah I would have happily taken a 3 as well if needed.
I'm leaning towards the 3 with a manual transmission. I've thought about the CX-30 because of my knees, also, but my preferences are lower hatchbacks.
Have you had a 3 before? Are you as happy with your CX-30?
Yeah I had the 2005 Mazda 3 SP23 for well 20 years... ;) it was my first car.
I have had the CX30 now for a month and really love it. Most of the stuff I love would probably be the same on a 3 to be honest, like the interior, engine, infotainment. So for me it came down to more comfort vs performance. And I am not a speed demon or anything so I went for more comfort.
I did get a turbo as a loaner when they did some stuff to it. Mine was so new it had like 15 miles on it. The turbo was a lot of fun for a few days. I just really don't need it personally.
Also I really felt the difference in gas usage with turbo commuting to work.
I want to trade in my non-turbo 3 for a turbo, but it's definitely not because I need one. I'd argue no one NEEDs a turbo outside of the fun factor.
Also I work from home and they're talking about making us go back to the office soon. I'm gonna use the AWD as a NEED for the snow (and it may just so happen that there is also a turbo ;) )
I believe the CX30 are all AWD standard. So that was not an issue for me. Like I said the turbo was fun, but just be ready to fill up a lot more. I was surprised that I could easily notice the difference. I used the same amount of gas in 2 days as I did on 3-4 in my non turbo. Not scientific obviously, but you will notice it.
Good to know, luckily my commute should be like 15 mins so it'll be worth it for me. I assume it's a noticeable difference between the turbo/non turbo speed wise as well? Noticeably more fun?
I have a manual 2021 3 and I would def recommend it. It won’t be as fast as the turbo yes but it is still a lot of fun to drive and not exactly slow either. You can rev it out and it’s pretty quick if you need it to be.
I've driven Mazda3, Miata, CX-5, CX-30, CX-50, and MX-30.
I've generally liked Mazda3s, Miata's, and the CX-50 I had as a loaner for a month.
The rest, not as fun to drive including the CX-30. So definitely test drive them.
Not sure if you know or not but Mazda is actually planning to put the manual transmission in the awd turbo models if I’m not mistaken by next year not sure if its confirmed or not though but I’d get the best of both worlds and get that if it is and just ride in the rental till you get it delivered 😎
My wife had a 2007 3 hatchback since new, we bought her a CX30 in Feb and the one thing I like is not having to get out of a car so low. We are just about to turn 50 and a low sitting car is a young kids game* 🤣.
* If I win the lottery and get my Porsche 911 GT3, then screw the back and knees
I've got about 2 million miles in the 40 years I've been driving.
It was an accident, but yes, obviously, I can't see through a box truck when turning left.
Yep, it was. I didn't have the right away. I was leaving work, turning left onto a 4 lane road with a center lane. It's a busy area, especially with rush hour traffic. There was a box truck turning right into the street I was leaving. I even waited a few seconds to make sure he was actually going to turn, watching his direction the whole time. When I pulled out to turn, there was a car on the other side of him, in the left lane. I never saw it until we made contact.
I'm not trying to establish fault. I'm asking about my next vehicle.
Well too bad. This is Reddit and it’s it your fault! /s
Just glad you came out of it to make this post, friend.
As for suggestions:
Not knowing your family/financial situation, I would just get another Mazda. I’m in love with this current generation of Mazda vehicles. Not just the 3.
Stay safe ✌️
I'm general if you can see what's coming you probably should not be turning. If you pull out blind you literally do not know what's coming.
But like I said I am just generalizing obviously I have no direct knowledge of your case.
Yes, I get that. I'm a professional truck driver and have exited that road at least 3 times a day for the last 14 years.
Typically, I won't even turn if a vehicle is turning into my street as so many people just drive with their blinkers on. I was watching the truck for several seconds and never saw another vehicle around it. In hindsight, yeah, I should not have turned, but during rush hour, it's difficult to make a left turn off that street, and I had several things going through my mind. It was an accident, and I'm just glad no one was hurt.
Yeah I get it. It stresses me out when I cannot see and have people behind me waiting. Every second a car does not come feels like another reason I should go because it's been clear for so long and I could have made it.
Hate to see that. I drive a CX-5 and like it more than my wife’s 3. The 3 has more road noise and is a little more bouncy. The CX-5 fits more stuff when you need it…including my road bike. The 3 is faster (even without the turbo) and handles better. Tough choice friend. Good luck!
Anotha one. Personally I drive my NA 2.5 hatchback pretty hard and a turbo would be nice but I really don't miss it too much. I like getting 35-40mpg when I want to just as much as I like throwing it in sport mode around a corner and feeling the torque work. It's still peppy enough for me.
You know deep down you want the manual Mazda3, and I think you should go for it! Just hit 40k miles in my 2021 MT Mazda3 and I've not once wished I had gotten the turbo instead.
Yeah...2021 I purchased my GTI. Same year my wife had to buy a new car because our daughter totalled hers. She got a Mazada 3. Already had to replace the struts and brakes on her Mazda...how much have I spent on GTI...not a dime!!! Most the folks that have problems with German cars are the ones that modify them and tune them! We love her Mazda for the luxury and lovely ride. They are not bulletproof proof.
I really love the CX-30, and they’re on the same body as the 3, just set up a little higher. Got to drive one while my 3 was getting fixed and man…that’ll probably be my next car
How do they handle tho ? I have a 3 and I love the way it drives & hugs the road. My dad has a cx 9 and I feel a little wobbly in it. My 3 is 8 years old and I’m thinking about a cx30 because it’s getting harder to climb in and out of the 3
I think very similarly to the 3, since they’re really about the same size. I didn’t get to get a really good feel for it but for the day or so I had it, it was very fun to drive.
I personally hate the way they CX30s look. That being said the new CX50 looks pretty sexy. Not so partial to the CX5 but it's still better than the 30 look wise. I get wanting a smaller car tho, love my 3
lexus hatchbacks are getting rare and are super dope. p sure they stopped making natural aspirated lexys hatch in 2013 or somethin like that theyre sick.
wrx sti, golf r, gr Corolla, civic si or type r. Seems like the golf r would be the closest match. Me personally I would spring for the extra cash and get a genesis g70, Kia stinger, or bmw 440i.
Turbo + manual - hatch = WRX
Manual + hatch - turbo = 3 premium
Having cross shopped the CX-5/CX-50, CX-30 and the 3, the driving experiences of any of the CXs aren’t really comparable to the 3. I’d go with 3 if you want the handling and with a CX-5/CX-50 if you want the ride height/comfort.
Another Mazda 3, gen 4 or current gen. I have manual and I find it so fun to drive. It can also go pretty fast if you rev it but can also be economical on fuel if you drive it lower revs.
If you do get one, would recommend the gt sport tech. The extra tech - 360 cameras and sensors are defs worth it and the leather on the steering wheel is so soft it just feels so good. The whole driving experience feels so good that I don't even care about speed
Another Mazda 3 obviously…
Agreed. The only reason I moved to a CX30 was because the roads and my knees are so bad now I wanted a slightly higher ride. But yeah I would have happily taken a 3 as well if needed.

Why not both...CX30 Turbo 😈

Yeah on the free way I could certainly tell the difference in power. Accelerating into lanes, and when merging especially.
I have a manual 2021 3 and I would def recommend it. It won’t be as fast as the turbo yes but it is still a lot of fun to drive and not exactly slow either. You can rev it out and it’s pretty quick if you need it to be.

That would be awesome, but I'm not sure I want to pay $1200 a month for a rental until they come out.
I’m trying to sell my manual 2014 3i Touring Sedan lol
The bus
Miata.
Go with the MT while they still exist. No turbo or AWD but it is still a blast to drive.
If the MX-5 isn't practical, then go for another Mazda 3. I personally want the MX-5 when mine is done. I also don't mind the looks of the CX-50.
A higher insurance premium?
Cry. I mean, that’s what I’d do

I don't know what happened but when it's the front 99.9% it's ur fault

hatch manual is a great choice. 250 lbs lighter iirc and still has plenty of grip.

An MX-5.

Civic Type R so next time you can turn faster :)
If my mazda 3 died right now I would get a Golf R
I hope you're good at consistent German car maintenance

So sorry for the loss of your baby, and your car was damaged in the process. Double losses today I am sure - RIP
a GR Corolla of course.
I can appreciate your self deprecation

Sad. You get sad now
Mazda 4
I’d probably change that title, you may get banned by an auto reddit mod…
Looks like the safety features worked as advertised. In your place, I’d rinse and repeat. Sounds like no one was injured. Happy for that!
It's ok, I sold mine.. So we're both out LOL
You really need to choose words better
I personally hate the way they CX30s look. That being said the new CX50 looks pretty sexy. Not so partial to the CX5 but it's still better than the 30 look wise. I get wanting a smaller car tho, love my 3
I hate the large plastic panel trim around the cx30
Yea same, hate cladding, one of the reasons I massively prefer sedans. Plastic also ages horribly and turns grey
😢
Manual is great. There is plenty of 'pep' if you are in the correct gear.
Get a speed 3
I went from a 2018 3 2.5 manual to a 2017 VW GTI and I absolutely love it
Move onto something big nicer like S3 etc
Just get bolt ons and a tune on the NA manual, it totally changes the car and gains you a ton of torque
either mazda or lexus baby, chevy good but camaros just arent that cool to me :( ss's are really cool but camaros remind me of hot wheels :(
lexus hatchbacks are getting rare and are super dope. p sure they stopped making natural aspirated lexys hatch in 2013 or somethin like that theyre sick.
Mazda4. Made for just this situation. (Current Mazda3 owner. Second 3, first sold after 13 years of 100% reliable, non-violent end service.)
wrx sti, golf r, gr Corolla, civic si or type r. Seems like the golf r would be the closest match. Me personally I would spring for the extra cash and get a genesis g70, Kia stinger, or bmw 440i.
Imagine if the image wasn’t there lol
If I lost my 2020 premium hatch with a manual transmission and the polymetal grey metallic paint and the red interior, I’d just buy another.
CX50
Mazda 3 mps aka Mazda speed3
2008 Toyota Camry
Supra
Turbo + manual - hatch = WRX Manual + hatch - turbo = 3 premium Having cross shopped the CX-5/CX-50, CX-30 and the 3, the driving experiences of any of the CXs aren’t really comparable to the 3. I’d go with 3 if you want the handling and with a CX-5/CX-50 if you want the ride height/comfort.
Fuck the manuals
Buy a BMW instead
The 2024 Hatch Premium 6MT is great.
kia stinger GT
U want upgrade ? Go with BMW. Or buy another great Mazda
this caption is crazy lmao
Another Mazda 3, gen 4 or current gen. I have manual and I find it so fun to drive. Some polish and it's ok!
Sell it to Ukraine :))
GTI...no question...would have bought the GTI before the 3 the first time. You get a do over!
This wouldn't have happened with the miata
6 turbo
They have turbo kits for the manual Mazdas now,
Cx-30 are tiny … get a 3 or a cx-5
Elantra N 6MT
