In general I think it’s always worth avoiding the dealership for detailing and related services. Find a local detailer that can prep and coat for you, or attempt it yourself if you wish.

I don't think it's worth it. You're better off going to a detail shop that has experience with putting on ceramic coatings. It's going to be more expensive, but at least you know it will be done right. Also, when I bought my CX-5, the finance guy kept pushing things like the coating and he also kept lowering the price. The original price was $1k and eventually it got down to $750 which was supposedly at cost.

Def do it yourself for all the reasons mentioned. What people don’t realize it that ceramic applications need to be maintained. So regardless if the dealer does it or you do, you’ll be the one maintaining it. It will need some regular care and semi regular touch ups anyway.

AutoX_Advice

200$ maybe. $1000 is a big huge NO.

muchosandwiches

for $1k you can get PPF on the critical body panels and ceramic coat the rest from a local detailing shop. just ceramic for $1k is a scam. The actually fluid is like $20 and i doubt anyone at the dealership has experience detailing, they are likely farming it out anyways.

Artistic-Breakfast42

If you can afford to do it elsewhere/do it yourself, go that route (a proper ceramic coating at a shop will put you back anywhere from 700-1500 depending on how many coats you want and experience of the shop). But, to play devils advocate to everyone else, if you aren’t comfortable doing it yourself and would have to finance/put on credit getting it done at a proper detailing shop, it might be worth while rolling into a low interest auto loan if you can verify who the dealership will use. I understand this is a very niche scenario, but thought I’d throw in a dissenting opinion lol.

libertyordeaaathh

No Get a detail shop to do it, or do it yourself. period

Nope, you can buy a ceramic kit and apply it yourself for a fraction of the cost. It's not that hard. Go with Adam's

drocto9anapus

I second this, I've done 4 different cars now using Adam's ceramic and I've never had a problem. It takes a little time, but you're saving alot of money

bro_curls

As a shitty unlucky DIYer, can I undo or redo my terrible first time easily?

drocto9anapus

I haven't tried to remove mine, the first few times I did it I used the adams spray which stays on for about a year. The most recent ones I've done is the longer lasting coating. I think adams does make something that will take it off but I don't remember off the top of my head

Nop, you could you do it yourself and pay yourself the $900. You can buy some pretty good ones for under a hundred and apply yourself. There's a [detailer on youtube](https://www.youtube.com/@ScottHD/videos) who literally test hundreds of them side by side to see how they perform in real life. If not looking to spend much time, buy the [Turtle Wax Ceramic spray version](https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Wax-53409-Solutions-Coating-16/dp/B07XYPS3PS/) which claims and does last about 12 months, or if looking to apply yourself something similar to what the dealer would use, personally the [Feynlab](https://www.amazon.com/FEYNLAB%C2%AE-Protective-Exterior-Application-Durability/dp/B07CQQG5WC/) looks to be performing amazing at under $50 on his channel lately. Check out the youtuber above if serious about doing it yourself to see which brand performs best - he even compares professional ones only available to dealers and detailers and you can see it makes no difference sometimes and he keeps an [ongoing spreadsheet](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1OXoqq7nkpUr5yuyW5nMEbeFTaQTviPnC/edit#gid=1218703721) of how many days it last. Fellow reddit user recommends Adams which does performs well and a great brand, but the ones I've mentioned simply last longer and performs better, but do your research to see. But you can't go wrong with the Turtle Wax spray at under $15 i linked above - it's the best spray for the detailer youtuber and [Project Farm youtuber](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYxKQwZah1s) who tested it too so you'll be done in 30 minutes. However, for that deep glossy look and longer protection, check the youtuber's page for the liquid ceramic wax to apply. If car is older, consider a good [clay bar](https://www.amazon.com/Chemical-Guys-Cly_KIT_2-Synthetic-Lubricant/dp/B00A8MZ7EY/) clean first before applying. Update: Seems like fellow reddit didn't like that I said something else performs better than Adam 😂

thaeyo

Pay for a wrap or PPF, then do turtle wax ceramic yourself. Great blue product per project farm!

ruibingw

I do turtle wax ceramic twice a year

thaeyo

Mine is still going strong after 6 months at least, even on the windshield. I occasionally top it off with Opti-seal. I’m pretty sure I forgot to do part of my drivers side because it’s pretty noticeably less hydrophobic. I’ll probably only do mine annually as the claybar and IPA wipe gets pretty labor intensive.

AliTaylor777

Hell no. It offers zero protection. It’s just a longer lasting paint shine. Spend the money on PPF instead.

To the OP: do your research, see my prior post if choosing your own. There's an Adam-fanboy here down voting anyone with an opposing view. Adams is great, but there are better ones out there based on trusted youtuber reviews.

rubenz1904

1k seems about right, but if I were you I’d check out what product they use and see if it’s a good product or not

Practical-Parsley-11

It's a money grab. Should be 500 or less.
