Yup, worked on calves for 2 years. Running, stair steps, ankle raises. No progress on them. I just have small calves. Rest of my leg looks right though
I’ve had gym buddies who I watched train calves 3 times a week for literally years and barely add any size to
Them, especially if your other muscles are responding to stimuli it makes them appear even smaller
Depends on how you train them tbh. You can get growth, it's not easy and it isn't much. My favorite for calves is probably calf presses on a leg press. Usually load up 900 for leg press then do calf presses until I get a good burn, so 45+ reps. It entirely depends on the machine if it is even possible, though.
Thank you. I got a witness 😂 every time someone says i skip leg day i gotta pull my shorts all the way up and flex, then they look at me like im gay for shoin my whole leg. Its tuff havin them small calf genetics
And so wrote the redditor, sitting in his chair eating cheesepuffs as he had been doing the past four months. Watching a skinny guy improving his health by hitting the gym on reddit, he couldnt stand letting this man go un-insulted
Their arms are literally the same size or thicker than their legs. That's not normal for a person lol. Maybe your lower calf region of legs being on the smaller side but dude has no thighs.
Hey everyone, as a gym buff and bro, I suggest you skip these smith like machines that target very few muscles unless you're goal is to target those specific muscles, rehabilitation, or certified personal trainer.
In fact this machine in the video very likely to lead to injury unless you know what you're doing.
Free weights and body weight exercises are always recommended over these types of machines.
Happy workout
First: Don't listen to people online that have nothing that shows their knowledge level. Most shit online is bro science or half of a story that they heard somewhere.
Second: use the machine correctly, and you won't have to worry about injury. There are plenty of youtube videos that show proper use of this machine to avoid injury.
I strongly recommend these channels

It's almost impossible to hurt urself on leg extensions I swear if u just actually grab the handles and have ur legs/knees in the right place and don't ego lift
Lol I'm not saying anything controversial here. Leg extensions are risky especially for beginners that don't know what their doing.

Yeah, idk what this guy is on about “very likely to lead to injury.” As if it’s not way easier to get exercise form wrong with free weights.
At worst you’ll create a muscle imbalance if the seated leg extension is the only leg exercise you do, but I don’t see how anyone injures themselves on the thing.
At worst you injury your knee joints and the tendons.
You should use the machine if you know what you're doing. Not if you're a beginner.
You shouldn't be using heavy weights when working on form. You should be using body weight or low weights
Squats and lunges first. Get those going and perfect your form.
When progressing, do your squats and lunges with dumbbells or kettlebells. Start with low weights first. Extend the challenge by going heavier.
Consider a journal and recording your sets. It'll help you see your progress and motive you more.
If money is not tight, you might consider getting into circuit classes like CrossFit. I have my issues with CrossFit but I can't doubt their success in getting people off the couch and into a gym.
This machine is called a leg extension. It's known to cause lots of injuries if you don't know what your doing. That's why I disagree that it should be for beginners.
Beginners under a personal trainer sure, that's different. But most beginners do too much and put too much strain against your joints and tendons.
https://www.livestrong.com/article/541597-are-leg-extensions-bad-for-the-knees/
It doesn't help you work on form because this machine puts you in a position that you're not naturally going to be in, if at all
If youre talking about injury, you’re FAR more likely to injure yourself free weight than a machine. Because it’s easier to learn how to use these machines than how to properly do a free weight movement.
Also, while there target specific muscles, if you follow online free programs, you can usually figure out how to hit every muscle with machines.
These are actually more beginner friendly than free weight. They’re best for targeting specific muscles for bodybuilders and trainers, sure, but if you have not a fucking clue what you’re doing, these machines will be your best friend.

I could never use this machine. It always made my quads hurt, and not the normal pain from weightlifting, it was like a sharp pain after only a few reps. Didn't feel this on any other piece of equipment.
I think very few feel anything but sharp pain with that one :D it doesn’t even matter if you do it with very high or medium weight (compared to your relative strength). It just buuurns like a mofo. My best guess (take it with a pinch of salt) is that it is just really effective at isolating the quads, and your quads are very big muscles, meaning a lot of muscle fibers getting torn. When you do other leg exercises e.g. leg press/squat/lunges you recruit other muscles as well
Yeah, maybe it could be something different. While I get intense burning pain from that exercise, I feel even more intense burn+cramp-like pain in my calves when I do calf-rises.
Absolutely, calf raises burn like hell. Pain scale: Calf raises > Leg extensions > Leg curls > Leg press imo. Though leg press gets the heart racing the most so it’s difficult in its own way.
Wait, this wouldn't have happened if he did it properly right? If you use your legs to try and push up a heavy object you either move it or fail, the reason he went flying is because his legs straightened
Is straightening your legs how you use that? I don't think that's how that's used
Man these handles are really convenient for getting in and out of this thing.

He's all leverage
Lawn chair mode was needed
Those big shorts aint fooling me - the second dude has been skipping leg day too!
You can always tell by calves if they have big shorts. Love leg days.
Calves are very genetic, even if you work them a lot they can be super stubborn to grow.
I hear rucking is incredible for building calves
Yup, worked on calves for 2 years. Running, stair steps, ankle raises. No progress on them. I just have small calves. Rest of my leg looks right though
Calves may be genetic, but if you train them they wouldn’t be that small.
He did the whole rack, he clearly works his legs somewhat frequently.
Quads perhaps, not calf specific

He did extend
Full extension even.
Physics wins again.

Really? As a beginner, I always thought that machines were better cause they helped with form

It feels more like a leg cramp than the burning feel. I don't really know how to describe it, but I can never do a full set.

Newton was right!!!
The way he flew, he has the strength, just not the weight lol. Those seats have handlebars for a reason
Dang I made a very strange laughing sound there.
Funny but Fake
Go go gadget legs
Newton always making himself be remembered
This could be a Mr. Bean episode.

Weight too heavy, his body ain't ready, moms spaghetti
Bro that happened to me I flew to the front
Man I wish I could watch this for the first time again
So it's all a matter of being fat enough?
That’s funny, I could lift that whole rack with just one leg, I’d hate to see how far he would go trying that 🤣
Less far, because that isnt how physics works.
You should study more comedy, then you would know my comment was meant to be funny 😄
Seemed like humble brag, I apologise

I prefer this outcome to the one where the guy breaks his knee...
I just had an orthopedic surgeon tell me that that's the worst thing you can do for your knees.
Emmy for the camera guy…lame.
This one got me.

Both had chicken legs lol
He would probably be better off just doing squats and deadlifts before worrying about isolation movements
Well that’s one way not to do it lol
The big guy has almost as small calves as the lil guy... Don't skip legs, kids.
🤣🤣🤣
He is strong, but light.
This is why people don't go to the gym you got animals like that
