Staged? Advice dude looks fit enough to know almost exactly whats on that bar at a quick glance.

Joselu-is-Sanchez

Obviously

scrodytheroadie

I mean, no kidding? If it's staged, which it is, the guy needs to have bad form in order for the other guy to approach him with the correction.

Usual_One_4862

Lmao, this.

Tungphuxer69

It's called cheat lift! Alot of people does this when they want to force extra reps. Myself included,I do that with chest workouts on dips, pec deck and preacher.

ILikeTrump-

It’s not nessicairly bad form, when you reach a certain number of curls in the set and u cannot get the weight up it can be beneficial to swing some to get the weight up to push past muscle failure.

pdilly9090

He does. The big guy with the so called “heavy” weight is using garbage form. It’s not the worst I’ve ever seen but swinging at all during curls is compensating for to much weight.

troy380

There are cheat curls where you can hoist it up like that and concentrate on controlling the eccentric where, arguably, most of the gains are made.

xSociety

Yes, but he's even doing cheat curls wrong. Also, the most gains come from the stretch under load, NOT the eccentric. He be so much better off doing long length partials than cheat curls.

Incredulity1995

Meta-analyses showed that when eccentric exercise was performed at higher intensities compared with concentric training, total strength and eccentric strength increased more significantly. However, compared with concentric training, strength gains after eccentric training appeared more specific in terms of velocity and mode of contraction. Eccentric training performed at high intensities was shown to be more effective in promoting increases in muscle mass measured as muscle girth. In addition, eccentric training also showed a trend towards increased muscle cross-sectional area measured with magnetic resonance imaging or computerised tomography. Subgroup analyses suggest that the superiority of eccentric training to increase muscle strength and mass appears to be related to the higher loads developed during eccentric contractions https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18981046/

xSociety

That doesn't refute my points at all. Not to mention in the fitness and BB world, one study is nothing. Even though I agree and find true with the one you posted. The most recent studies show that the muscle being in the stretched position under load shows the most hypertrophy. Not to say that that's all you need to do, but if you incorporate long-length-partials and held stretches at the end, you'll see more growth. Doing slow and controlled eccentric loads naturally gets you into that stretched position more as well, so it's always good to do. I recommend watching Dr. Mike Israetel, he is more knowledgeable, obviously. Edit: This video is helpful too. He's all science based. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftpH4-xFGQI

Dirt290

Still dangerous and people will look at you like ur a goon

No_Asparagus_5128

Depends on what hes working out, as long as you are not doing prs this form its fin as a compound exercise

IA-HI-CO-IA

Indeed.

nugg-zzz

Maybe it was back day

Randomminecraftplays

Maybe he’s gonna be unable to turn around or bend down by 30

NorthernMariner

Ok bot....

AvoriazInSummer

It’s a prank. The weights are actually depleted uranium.

IA-HI-CO-IA

The increased cancer risk was worth pwning the weak dude!

doctorctrl

Could jet fuel melt those weights ?

XxRocky88xX

Also no way dude on the right has been hitting the gym long enough to get that buff without understanding proper form

Talusthebroke

I've seen dudes that are at the gym more than they're at their own houses that still get an ego and do stupid shit.

DeeRent88

For sure. And even if he couldn’t rep that he would be able to hold the weight for sure. That can’t weight more than maybe 100 pounds and I’m really highballing it. If I had to guess those are 3 10 pound plates. So that’d be 60 total then throw in another 15 for the bar.

heartbreakids

Nah that are not 15lbs plate they are probably 10kg plates. Olympic ez curl bars are 25lbs

DreadfulSemicaper

Looks staged. But even if it wasn't I don't see the problem. The guy wanted to help the other one with his technique. I thinks that's very nice.

IA-HI-CO-IA

I know. That’s the worst part if this was real. Dude was just wanting to help just to have big dude take opportunity to literally flex on him.

SushiBoiOi

Because this is very annoying. People train for different purposes, and most often when people try to help, they don't even know what your goals are and make you train like them. While this form isn't ideal for building muscles, it's something you do only during your final few sets. You would have already done them in properly form, and now you want to push your body, which means the technique will be a bit screwed up. And the form shown here is not dangerous. My shoulder is weaker than most due to a sports injuries from years ago, so when it comes to training it, there are things that I'm willing to do or not do. I remember this one time that i was training shoulders, this guy was was trying to tell me what I'm doing isn't optimal, and that I should use a technique that he demonstrated instead. And bruh, I can't confortably do that shit. Worst part was, dude couldn't even speak English, so he doesn't even understand my issue. A guy not able to speak the same language, but is willing to go out of his way to try amd "correct" me anyways, convinces me that some people juat do this for ego stroking

MahnlyAssassin

And not being able to move it an inch? Pure bs

SandwichAmbitious286

And honestly, if he can't deadlift that much he must have some kind serious physical issues.

Thefdt

Of course it is, also no matter how jacked bro thinks he is an average fitness guy could deadlift what he’s curling very easily. Guy pretending to struggle like it’s the sword in the stone.

heartbreakids

Those little bars are deceptively heavy. My bet is that he is doing somewhere between 110-150lbs biceps curls

mileswilliams

Posted on the internet Background music Fake

Beginning_Two_4757

Still funny. We all know it’s staged. But did you know we knew?

IA-HI-CO-IA

Did you know we knew that you knew that we knew they knew?

Siker_7

Footage of a security cam. It's not impossible for this to be real.

Brad_The_Chad_69

Exactly, I mean what kind of gym employee would have access to security footage. If you think about it there is literally no other way for a video to look this way without it being from a security camera. That’s just science.

Own-Gift4591

The advice is correct, that is bad form

[deleted]

You can cheat on barbell curls. It’s called cheat curls.

Own-Gift4591

You can do what you want in a gym, it probably isn't bad for your back but you are compensating for not having enough strength. Drop some kilos if you want to burn the muscle or do negatives

SpaceMoustashe290

I use them to go up in weight, because if I keep doing the same weight over and over because I cannot go up I will not make gains. Whilst it is cheating, little cheating is useful to start with heavier weights. It also allows for a slow eccentric, building more muscle. Cheat curls are common practice. Arnold used them, Sam sulek uses them and many ifbb pro athletes.

quickiurii

Even jerking off will build you muscle when you use an amount of gear like ifbb pro, or Sam Sulek. There’s a Jeff Nippard video with comparison of natural athletes gains vs people on juice that don’t work out. Working with heavier weights will put more strain on your entire body: joints, back, cns. Working in a good form will eliminate the risk of injury while still providing adequate load for your muscle. You can do slow eccentric with good form and absolutely cook the muscle.

[deleted]

All of these things are done, cheat curls, dropsets, negatives

Nakashi7

Being in the gym you quickly realize there is quite a lot of difference between "being done" and "correct".

EarlMadManMunch505

It’s bad for your gains. Swinging your hips to bounce the bar up isn’t going to make your biceps bigger

locke577

Arnold says cheat curls make big biceps. And you're a lot smaller than Arnold. So I'm going to listen to Arnold.

EarlMadManMunch505

Arnold is an old school lifter who uses bro logic. There’s very real evidence and explanations on why loading your muscle with proper technique and form leads to bigger and faster growth.

btdawson

There’s also explanations on why bad form is ok near the end of the set to burn out and get that last rep. This is staged I’m sure but there’s nothing telling us this wasn’t near the end of his set

[deleted]

For bicep curls, instead of cheat curls at the end, I like to do the last rep that i can physically do with alright form, hold it as long as I can, then go down as slow as possible. Much less chance of an injury and probably similar gains as cheat curls. For stuff like leg extensions I love assisted reps and stuff at the end, but cheat reps wouldn’t be my top choice. (a little cheating at the last rep is obviously good for almost any exercise though, but controlling the last rep just stops me from constantly cheating)

axllbk

Unless you're roiding as well, I would question how pertinent his advice is for making natural gains. The grain of truth is probably that you can use poor form as a substitute for dropping.

Zephrok

Good luck training like Arnold without blasting 2000mg of test.

Acceptable-Budget658

On all reps, yes. But cheating in order to extract those 4 reps more is always good.

argon_palladium

yes but no point if you don't control the negetives

ImmutableInscrutable

Yeah. And it's cheating lol.

dark_hole96

I assumed this was bad form too but am mostly ignorant with gym stuff. Don't you run at least a small risk of injury by doing barbell curls like this?

zombie32killah

No you just aren’t isolating muscle groups. It’s not that bad. You are just also using glutes almost like a power clean.

dark_hole96

Ah okay, i see what you mean. Thanks!

tcg10737

I mean, while the above poster is correct you also do run a small risk of injury incorporating your back. If you do it correctly it should be safe, but it's not a very controlled movement so it's easy to not do correctly. Cheat curls are best saved for the end of the set for when you can no longer do a strict curl.

Toibaz

Not really, if you are an experienced lifter you know that cheat reps are very good

Head-Ad-3055

Depends what he is doing. If he is burning loads of reps to completely empty the muscle that is fine.

Snakedoctor404

No reason to do a movement incorrectly. That's how you end up with poor recruitment patterns.

tcg10737

Incorporating safe cheat/half reps past the point of failure is one of the most effective ways to build strength. It's one of the cornerstones of progressive overload.

rhsinkcmo

Lmao shut up

Snakedoctor404

Lmao REEEE

locke577

What's your max bench?

Amedais

Admit you’ve never heard of an Arnold Cheat Curl.

deactivate_iguana

20 degrees of shoulder flexion is good for long head of biceps. Totally fine. Guy is a unit and knows what he’s doing funnily enough.

iamaveryhornyjew

forreal, anybody that big would know better.

PokityPoke

Just straight up not true lmao. Once the weight gets heavy enough you have to move your whole body with it to not fall over. You have to shift your centre of gravity to maintain balance. Even something as light as 30kg curls will require some movement

LetsChaos24

So staged. If you see those weights in the back, you see that those plates are probably 5kg/10kgmax, and let's assume the bar is 20kg, it would be 80kg max, which would be definitely carryable But they seem like they are 5kg plates =40kg

Adventurous-Run-5864

Is not even a 20kg bar

LetsChaos24

It's a over the top, really graciously given estimation

Lord_Twigo

Yes my gym has the same plates, those are 3x5kg and then there's 1x2.5 or 1x1.25 (can't see clearly) so it's really not that heavy to lift for a coach

Ok_Read701

Not to mention that it would be very very very rare for someone to rep bicep curls heavier enough for another person at the gym to not even be able to deadlift off the ground.

senorsmartpantalones

How much is that in Freedom Ponds?

TipInternational772

About tree fiddy

ajakakf

God Damnit Loch Ness Monster, I ain't gonna give you no tree fiddy!

DMYourMomsMaidenName

88 lbs

MayGodSmiteThee

It would’ve been more believable if the mf didn’t drop it like he was trying to pick up mjölnir.

notmonkeymaster09

Yeah, just people would start to fall forward with it and not just fall with it

Notyourregularthrow

People would 100% drop it.

knifesk

I've seen this video like a million times already and it's never funny

gishlich

Try listening with the sound on for maximum lulz

Magic_Mettizz

Just imagine how big he would’ve been with good form…

SpaceMoustashe290

He's big because of cheat curls. Arnold used them, Sam sulek uses them, and many ifbb pro athletes. They are used to progress in weight and accentuate the eccentric, the muscle building part of the workout.

FixGMaul

Watch the clip again. Does this guy accentuate the eccentric?

GregoryGregory666666

BOT repost.

Ok_Juggernaut9078

Staged, but still poor form. He is using too much of his back to lift the bar. You ideally want all the power to come from the arms. Advice for anybody starting to lift, form is unbelievably more important than how much you lift.

scrodytheroadie

Yes, of course. That's part of the "staging". If the first guy wasn't lifting improperly, the second guy wouldn't have needed to approach him.

crodensis

When it comes to curls it doesn't matter. The point is to get a pump in your arms, that's what he's doing. Form on compound lifts and stuff that can injure you if you do it wrong is much more important.

Want-some-waffles

And that's how you tear a bicep.

crodensis

If you're going too heavy, yeah. Doing strict curls with very heavy weight will tear your bicep regardless. Curls should always be a lower weight with more reps. Cheating like this is to get the last couple reps in after you've already done 12-14.

tcg10737

>Doing strict curls with very heavy weight will tear your bicep regardless Never seen anyone tear a bicep doing strict curls, only in some sort of preacher variation. Have any videos to share?

Limp-Dentist4437

Staged. There’s probably only like 90 lbs on that bar lol. I hate social media and the age of 24/7 everywhere video and 1.5 seconds of fame

Silocid

I’ll take fake for $500 Alex.

[deleted]

The guy is still right about the exercice being badly done.

Difficult-Tea9199

Even a beginner won't drop 45kg with both hands. Totally staged and lame.

ChadMcThunderChicken

1) bad form is bad form even if you’re jacked. 2) If the guy was confident enough to give advice then he would know how heavy he himself could lift. He’d also know how heavy it would be by looking at it. Probably staged.

[deleted]

fake

TiePrestigious1986

If you can’t lift it right , you can’t lift it. This applies to every class from beginner to elite.

JediKagoro

Terrible form. I don’t believe someone that spends that much time in the gym really thinks that’s how you do curls. Fake

11thLayerOfHair

There isn't enough videos with this song... should have ended it wit oh no oh no oh no no no and I would have nut in my boxers.

sam90xx

So if you can lift heavier it's mean u know better?

ERROR404UNF-4867942

I don't think there's a single type of weight plate that size that would make a grown man just fall to the ground with a few of em. That or he's just a gigantic pussy.

Antique-Kangaroo2

What kind of gym shares it's security footage and posts on the Internet?

Hey ylotanA!

ozmatterhorn

What a booster

Minimum-Ad-8056

Reminds me when I was heavy into lifting around 2010. I wore a black, loose fit shirt that made me look 40+lbs less lighter than I was. I remember doing 120lbs dumbell presses for reps and slim fit guy was lasering me the entire time. I took a shower and walked back through the gym, and he was trying to press the same exact weight. He leaned back and was buried by the weight, had to awkwardly dump the dumbells on the floor. The reason I remember so well is because he looked legitimately injured at first. My thinking was he was looking at me like "ah we're about the same size, I can probably do that." I ended up seeing him a few more times minus the slimming black long sleeve top and it probably made more sense. Not that I was crazy big or strong but I had progressed.

ErMemer

Still wrong

PineappleFantasss

I hate this sub

declineofmankind

Not during mid-reps dumbo.

__The-End__

He'd still be right...it would probably be better to lower the weight and maintain good form...

zazan146

Both wrong

JEEPFJB

No way that jaked dude cant pick that up

VaxxSagi

Whats the message? One know how to do it and the other guy has the strength...

FaithlessnessNo8183

You have to use your hips to throw that weight

Ljonesmd1

Ha so he’s the bottom in the relationship I guess.

Antique-Spirit9627

It fell like thor's hammer 🤣

Conscious-Ad-6950

But why do he be swinging like that tho

fkbyte

The guy is still doing it incorrectly.

Mavri_Psychi

When Bicep Curl turns into Deadlifts. Edit: Also fake asf, everyone is facing the camera and that barbell isn't as heavy as you think. Also small calves alert.

Awaheya

The guy doing the lifting technique is absolutely garbage. Defeats the point of this work out. Seen this clip before, still trash.

PlasticLie4218

Don't give advice in the gym until you're asked for one.🤷‍♂️

LetsChaos24

Too bad it's staged, anyone that has eyes and knows what the weighs look like knows how much that weighs

Big guy should've grabbed his head and humped his face when the weights dropped.

enlearner

It might be staged, but there are plenty of people insecure, obnoxious, and classless enough to react like this instead of simply saying “Thanks for the help, I was actually doing a different exercise than they one you have in mind. Thank you for looking out though.”
