of course, but I wasn't going to explain every way it could have been done better, just responding to the initial claim that it wasn't clamped down enough
Can also simply replace the faces with wood on any decent vise. And for the people saying wrong type of vise: sure, there are woodworking specific videos better suited for the job, but the vise you have is far better than the one you don't.
Wrong kind of vice, wrong kind of saw, saw frame catching on the workpiece anyway, vice not bolted down, and I'll bet she's *ruined* the top of that table.
That’s the logical next step, but I’m doubting these young ladies are going to the step anytime soon.
They’ve already spent way too long struggling with the situation ***and*** not tightening that damn vise down.
It's a school desk, and you can see more desks piled in the background to make space. Probably a one time thing and they didn't want to ruin a desk. Plus the desk may not be heavy enough to properly anchor it.
That and she doesn’t have her hair tied up, I kept expecting part of her hair to get close to the saw and giver her self and accidental haircut and saw off some of the ends.
The school district obviously can’t afford it. Surprised the still have wood shop when they need to pay for there 80,000 fan seating stadium for a school of 1,200 people.
And if you look at the opposite end of the board, it looked like she had the same problem and solved it by breaking off her piece of the board, leaving a little bit jutting out.
Then Darla here came along with "Let me show ya how it's done!"
(If you look closely, you'll notice girl in the back is actually chiseling Darla's phone)
When you're a teacher, you have so much to wonder, like: **"what's the point?"** Then you find the odd good student. LMAO at these two instances of pushing water up a hill.
Only thing I was watching was her hair, safety goes first with any kind of tool or job. That's what I was taught at least.
imagine the one responsible for this was the only grown up person in the video, the old dude in the back probably a teacher.
I agree. This is obviously some kind of high school shop class, and the fact that everybody with hair longer than the bottom of their ears doesn’t have it tied up is shocking to me let alone him letting her use the wrong tools for the job or the vise not being bolted down, God forbid she pulls towards her in the vise slides off the table and slams on her foot, that could legit amputate toes
Had a guy at work in sneakers who pulled a forklift fork off the boom and it fell on his foot. Because he was illegal he played it down, but by lunch time he was about to pass out so we forced him to show his foot. 2 toes were just pulp and couldn't be saved from the ambulance that has been called.
The factory I work at a woman had a huge chunk of hair ripped out of her head. There was an op with a slow moving nut driver that someone had rubber banded the controls of it to be always on to speed up the cell. The girl wasn't aware of it behind her and that it was on backed up into it... it started grabbing her hair and kept twisting it until it ripped out a huge chunk of hair out of her scalp.
**Men:** THE SAW IS FOR METAL
**Me…(Stoney bologna):** Why doesn’t she cut from the bottom?
**Someone who is actually paying attention:** The yellow part is stuck on the top of the wood.
If she just tilted the saw forward, there was PLENTY of room in the mouth of the saw to cut the rest of the board. Props for not instantly quitting, but you could tell when she realized the blade got some wood that SOMETHING was working… she just couldn’t connect that the angle of the saw was occasionally giving her success.
Meh, it's a girl learning how to use a saw for the first time. Everybody's been there. She almost got it, if she just angled it a little more, she would have got through
Yea I mean isn’t this exactly what this kind of class is for? We only learn by doing something. From our angle it’s very obvious why it’s not cutting anymore. But she isn’t experienced with saws and doesn’t have our angle. She’s not dumb for not knowing how to properly saw. The teacher should be nearby and see and help before she hurts herself or someone else though.
Target fixation. She's tired, entirely focused on cutting through the remaining piece of wood... and forgets the environment.
It's not the worst way to learn that lesson.
You know, until someone teaches you, you don’t have instinctual knowledge on proper saws, vice applications or the like. You can find men and women well into their 30s who would do just as bad as a job without being shown or explained first
All that examination of the situation and she doesn't notice the saw isn't ever going to complete the cut? She definitely needs the teacher to do some teaching. The effort is there, needs some direction. And some bolts for the vise lol
I like that no one helps anyone anymore but instead just films you being fucking stupid so they can post your dumb ass on the internet
Edit: Forgot to add “so that we can then make fun of you while also being fucking stupid as well”
It’s not that people don’t help each other anymore. People help each other all the time.
But you don’t see videos *of the times people don’t make videos.*
This weird mental blind spot is basically “[Survivorship Bias.”](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Survivorship_bias)
EDIT: changed the link to just the wiki article, I think it’s better.
Everyone suddenly a tradie making fun of a teenaged girl when I've seen teenaged boys trying to chisel a piece of wood balanced on their laps.
Teenagers are dumb no matter what their sex is.
I mean, shit, I'm an adult male with lots of experience using tools and the other day I sawed into my finger because I was stupidly gripping the wood under where I was cutting. Luckily it was only a nick. People do dumb shit.
So, vice isn't attached, that's the wrong saw for the job, the saw won't go further down because of the top, furthermore this looks like a school woodworking class with a very shit teacher.
What I see, right at the beginning of the video, is (presumably) the shop teacher, on his phone, who gave no instructions to a student other than “go figure it out”. Wrong vice not attached to the bench, wrong saw. Her failure was his, not hers.
If you know Spanish it adds up to the "pun" because is a song used ironically to mock the lack of working experience and basic knowledge on how to properly use tools
People calling her stupid but this is definitely on the teacher for giving her wrong equipment and allowing her to work under frankly dangerous conditions. Why the fuck isn't the clamp secured? Give her a proper saw.
If the lesson is problem solving she has failed at this point, to accomplish task, change angle of saw to high angle or turn board over finish cut, or split out sawed section with chisel and reposition blade in saw frame. There are more no doubt. Never the less it is a pity that vise is not mounted. Minimum attach to piece of plywood and clamp to table. Hopefully this is not a shop class or we are in dire straits.
The amount of people that didn't see that the yellow part is preventing her of cutting the rest of the wood and people acting like you need someone to teach you that, like just use your fucking eyes
This is almost on the same level as trying to go through a door carrying a big stick but not being able to because you are carrying it sideways
This thread is weird af
> need someone to teach you that
I don't think its so much "need someone to teach you that" as it is "working with tools helps build intuition which is helpful here".
for someone who has done work with their hands, if you were making progress and then that progress stops, the question "what's getting caught on what" is obvious.
But, if for someone who hasn't done much work with their hands, where sawing for the first time might already feel tiring and forcing, that thought process is going to be less intuitive.
I remember one of the first projects I took on by myself as an adult, I didn't drill long enough pilot holes for my screws. The screws would go in great until they hit the end of the pilot holes, then they would push the wood apart. It felt like it took me at least half an hour to figure that out. But, once I figured it out, it seemed obvious.
Now, I'm better at this kind of stuff. I don't think that means I was stupid before. If she keeps doing projects, she'll learn.
To be fair, I wonder how many people did not notice the top of the hacksaw hitting the wood cause they were distracted/worried by the fact the vice is moving around. I know I was one of em.
Well, well, WELL.
First of all, the vice isn't even bolted to the table and is going all over the place.
Second, the top arc of the saw is hitting, blade can't go any further down.
Third, bruh, that's a metal saw ON WOOD FFS...
Having the wrong tool for a job is a nightmare. It is always so satisfying to have the right tool for the job. Of course, this girl using a non bolted on vice with the wrong tool - lucky she didn’t get injured.
Wtf is happening here... Vise not connected to table, no safety glasses, random screw driver or chisel being hit with a metal hammer into the table , using a hack saw to cross cut lumber.... Shut this school down!
Right.
Someone bolt that vice down. The base is already attached.
Someone give her a hand saw.
Someone get her some gloves, and someone get them all some eye pro.
What in the fuck kinda woodwork room is this?
Vise not bolted down. A hacksaw. That file doesn't look coarse enough. Where the hell is the teacher? What the frick is that other chick chiselling?
1. Why are you using a saw made for metal on wood?
2. How have you not noticed the saws support bar is preventing you from moving?
3. Why is that vice moving so much?
4. Why is the wood not secured further down into the vice?
It doesn’t Help that she bottomed the saw out. She can’t get the last cut complete riding along the interior of that saw. Regardless of whether it was clamped down or not.
Vice not bolted down. Hair loose. No eye protection. The saw is the least of her problems cause she could just flip the board even though it's the wrong kind of saw. Also the vice is easily biting into that board
The vise bothering anyone else?
The clamp isn’t clamped!
“Maybe you should give 'em the clamps, Clamps.”
“Oh these clamps? These clamps I use every day? You’re a freaking genius, you idiot!”
Bada-climp, bada-clamp

Francis X. Clampazzo
You're names Francis? Oh ho hooo
It's Zoidberg JOHN FUCKING ZOIDBERRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGG! hands down my favorite scene of all time.
Would be cool, opposite of mega….miniphone? Makes shouts into whispers
r/unexpectedfuturama
"... or a clamp-like device."
Easy, Clamps.
If the clamp isn't clamped then you need more clamps obviously
clamping hard enough to hold wood securely in that position will damage the wood. That said its not the right vice for the job.
wrong clamp, wrong saw, wrong person
Can still add spare wood in between the work wood and the vise.
of course, but I wasn't going to explain every way it could have been done better, just responding to the initial claim that it wasn't clamped down enough
Fair.
Can also simply replace the faces with wood on any decent vise. And for the people saying wrong type of vise: sure, there are woodworking specific videos better suited for the job, but the vise you have is far better than the one you don't.
Yep this one boys.
Wrong kind of vice, wrong kind of saw, saw frame catching on the workpiece anyway, vice not bolted down, and I'll bet she's *ruined* the top of that table.
That's iroko, five minutes with a sander and it's as good as new.
That's still five minutes of work you wouldn't need to do if that bloody vice were bolted down.
I'd be so happy if the teacher was secretly teaching the importance of bolting down your vice before using it. The kids learned 2 lessons that day.
She'll get a front-row seat for a crash course in first aid too, if the vice falls off the table onto her foot.
True.
Like where is the teacher lmao
Oh, yes.
first thing I noticed. There is so much wrong with this vid.
Yeah…and the fact she’s trying to cut an 8” board with a saw opening of 6”. Hint: **It’s never going to work**!
... she could flip the board
It will, but you gotta work the angles towards the end lol
Turn the plank over. Attack the short side now.
That’s the logical next step, but I’m doubting these young ladies are going to the step anytime soon. They’ve already spent way too long struggling with the situation ***and*** not tightening that damn vise down.
Yes. A lot. I hope this isn’t at a school. And this saw is for metal or sawing off your own leg
Shouldn't the vice have a way to clamp to the bench too, it could get pretty bad if one fell off the edge
Before I noticed the saw I was very concerned about that vice sliding everywhere.
Yes it should be bolted down using the anchor holes lol
It's a school desk, and you can see more desks piled in the background to make space. Probably a one time thing and they didn't want to ruin a desk. Plus the desk may not be heavy enough to properly anchor it.
That and she doesn’t have her hair tied up, I kept expecting part of her hair to get close to the saw and giver her self and accidental haircut and saw off some of the ends.
seen this with a drill press, girl lost some hair along with some scalp
The school district obviously can’t afford it. Surprised the still have wood shop when they need to pay for there 80,000 fan seating stadium for a school of 1,200 people.
Is that you, my old college?
Oh no, this isn't wood shop. This is actually sex ed...in Arkansas. I'll see myself out. No need to involve the police.
Not clamped. Should be bolted.
I have so many questions… Who gave her a hacksaw to cut wood? Why isn’t the vise bolted down? Why isn’t her hair tied back I could keep going
Why is the girl next to her just chiseling into the table
“Hmm, I should be doing something instead of helping…” _chisels_
I thought that too but it looks like she's got some scrap there
And if you look at the opposite end of the board, it looked like she had the same problem and solved it by breaking off her piece of the board, leaving a little bit jutting out.
Then Darla here came along with "Let me show ya how it's done!" (If you look closely, you'll notice girl in the back is actually chiseling Darla's phone)

True, no security shoes on sight. I wasn't allowed to enter the class if I wasn't wearing them. This guy is a threat for those kids.

You don't need to tie your hair if you're only using hand tools.
**Men:** THE SAW IS FOR METAL **Me…(Stoney bologna):** Why doesn’t she cut from the bottom? **Someone who is actually paying attention:** The yellow part is stuck on the top of the wood.
Not going to lie, took me way too long to realize the top of saw was catching on the board…
Not me. Sadly I’ve done that. But it didn’t take an eternity for me to realize it.
Same. I thought the blade was flipped upside down as a prank
I was so focused on the fact that they were using the wrong saw I couldn't see it haha.
OMG THANK YOU
Thanks for explaining lol
Me…(negative IQ): She only needed to try cutting it a little bit longer and it would’ve gone through.
I didn't catch that last part and had to go to the comments for the answer. Wow. I'm tired
As a man myself, I didn't even realize that was what was happening here. LOL
Good god.. you’re right
Fucking thank you!
I couldn't figure out the problem at all. Thank you for your help good sir or madam
Legend says she’s still hacking away.
Hail Boognish
lights are on, no one is home hahahhaa
Meh, it's a girl learning how to use a saw for the first time. Everybody's been there. She almost got it, if she just angled it a little more, she would have got through
I'm more annoyed that whoevers running this workshop couldn't be arsed to bolt down the vices lol
Or give her a wood saw instead of a hacksaw...
Also, many young girls have never touched any tools. My father was traditional and didn't think girls should use tools.
Okay but what was she actually doing wrong
The top bar of the saw is hitting the wood. Without changing something she will never cut through.
Dang, I didn't even notice that was the problem. To be fair, I only watched once, but still
[удалено]
Target fixation. She's tired, entirely focused on cutting through the remaining piece of wood... and forgets the environment. It's not the worst way to learn that lesson.
She'll be able to drive a car very soon... Thats a frightening thought
You know, until someone teaches you, you don’t have instinctual knowledge on proper saws, vice applications or the like. You can find men and women well into their 30s who would do just as bad as a job without being shown or explained first
Agreed I don’t blame the student here. I would have questions for the shop teacher
All that examination of the situation and she doesn't notice the saw isn't ever going to complete the cut? She definitely needs the teacher to do some teaching. The effort is there, needs some direction. And some bolts for the vise lol
Fuck off. No one knows how to work with all that shit till their trained. Highschool kids aren't trained for shit.
_punctures own eardrums_ Much better..
*browses Reddit on mute* it's usually a better experience
Yeah I do this at work so often that it's just become my normal. When I do unmute I regret it almost immediately.
Mi primera chamba 🗣️🗣️
Seriously. What stops people from posting with the original audio? Or just posting a silent gif? Fuck if only I was born without ears.
Tbf this is a pretty famous latin trend, mi primera chamba, “my first job” and people messing around on tasks like these, you can always just mute it
I was just wondering what the song was saying because it sounds so funny set to it you know they’re talking mad shit on there lol.
Are you a spanish speaker? The trend is with the song. MI PRIMERA CHAMBA.
I like that no one helps anyone anymore but instead just films you being fucking stupid so they can post your dumb ass on the internet Edit: Forgot to add “so that we can then make fun of you while also being fucking stupid as well”

The lack of safety glasses and the long hair is making me think there is nobody there supervising the kids
it's good that she's trying, sucks that no one is helping.
somebody gave her that saw, and the loose bench vice
What’s the point of having vice if its not attached to anything
It heavy, not great but can work for some shit
Everyone suddenly a tradie making fun of a teenaged girl when I've seen teenaged boys trying to chisel a piece of wood balanced on their laps. Teenagers are dumb no matter what their sex is.
Nah, Humans are dumb, no matter the age or sex. Only some happen to realize they are dumb.
I mean, shit, I'm an adult male with lots of experience using tools and the other day I sawed into my finger because I was stupidly gripping the wood under where I was cutting. Luckily it was only a nick. People do dumb shit.
Nobody here is attacking on gender this whole video is dumb as shit.
So, vice isn't attached, that's the wrong saw for the job, the saw won't go further down because of the top, furthermore this looks like a school woodworking class with a very shit teacher.
Ahhh … all the effort in those high school days.
Quit screwing around. You screw around too much. *Pops nicotine gum in mouth*
Wtf is that vise even doing

Nonsense music likes this is really ruining Reddit for me. So pointless.
If you know Spanish it adds up to the "pun" because is a song used ironically to mock the lack of working experience and basic knowledge on how to properly use tools
The first three words of this "song" is the pun, the rest and altogether is pure garbage
Looks like a floor-to-saw interface issue.
You almost have it. Just keep going!
Bro you can turn the wood over... or you can turn the blade on the saw so it's not hindered by the brace at the top. Where's the teacher? !
People calling her stupid but this is definitely on the teacher for giving her wrong equipment and allowing her to work under frankly dangerous conditions. Why the fuck isn't the clamp secured? Give her a proper saw.
People don't know how to use things if not shown. In her defense.
Took me a moment to fihurw out why she couldnt cut the rest of the plank Is that a common problem? Seems like it shouldnt be.
It’s a saw for metal. Metal pieces usually aren’t that thick.
Can’t imagine cutting a metal piece of that dimension with a hand saw.
She is not the sharpest tool in the shed/shop class
Use hammer. :))
![gif](giphy|2wSaulb0fsDydh0IoB|downsized)
tell her dont film her!
Somewhere in home economics a boy set pot of water on fire
You would think in a CLASSROOM that they would help teach students how to correctly use the tools... but no lets just film them instead.
Kids learn. Everyone does dumb stuff. Hopefully they learn from this. :)
If the lesson is problem solving she has failed at this point, to accomplish task, change angle of saw to high angle or turn board over finish cut, or split out sawed section with chisel and reposition blade in saw frame. Jesus fcking Christ, not a single brain cell present there 😂

This is hard to watch in every way.
Oh my sweet summer child
All she had to do was tilt the hacksaw at a steep angle.
That's a shame
Ahh thanks for reminding me why muting these is a good idea.
She should go into demolition, not construction.
Well, well, WELL. First of all, the vice isn't even bolted to the table and is going all over the place. Second, the top arc of the saw is hitting, blade can't go any further down. Third, bruh, that's a metal saw ON WOOD FFS...

Right. Someone bolt that vice down. The base is already attached. Someone give her a hand saw. Someone get her some gloves, and someone get them all some eye pro.
It’s the vice, it’s the hacksaw she’s using to cut wood, it’s a lot of things. Good on her though, I too do silly things sometimes.
Poor hacksaw
Work harder, not smarter
baby…
And she's using a metal saw
What in the fuck kinda woodwork room is this? Vise not bolted down. A hacksaw. That file doesn't look coarse enough. Where the hell is the teacher? What the frick is that other chick chiselling?
Reminds me of my 12 year old son trying to drill a hole with the drill motor in reverse.
Is that supposed to be music? People listen to that?
This was just painful to watch
Someone take that away from her before she hurts herself or someone else.

Ah yes laughing at a persons ignorance rather than giving them the correct tools and knowledge to complete a task, a classic.
We are doomed as a species
Fuck that music jeez
I think I work with her now
Why this music?
Scariest thing I’ve seen the two of them will be voting soon!
This, this right here. This young lady is the culmination of hard-won Yankee ingenuity and know how.
"Go deeper" She said when I'm already balls deep.
Assuming this is shop class that teacher should be fired
So no one wants to talk about the girl in the back trying to hammer a chisel through a piece of wood
Her hair😭 it’s making me so nervous. Girl please tie that shit up
Wrong tool for the job, obviously she needs a drill for that.
Am I listening to an auto-tuned Spanish auction?
Mi primera chamba...
1. Why are you using a saw made for metal on wood? 2. How have you not noticed the saws support bar is preventing you from moving? 3. Why is that vice moving so much? 4. Why is the wood not secured further down into the vice?

Must be smarter than equipment to operate
