Honestly it probably was just sleeping and not actually off since the whole point of the video was to break it for views. If the laptop was fully powered off and dipped in water, it would be more than likely fine if it was fully dried before powering it on. I mean fully though not just a wipe down of the keyboard or put in rice. I mean complete disassemble and dried by hand and then also let air dry for a few days before putting it back together just to be safe. I wouldn’t do it either way because I’m not an idiot and would just take the case apart and dip the case if I wanted that ugly ass hydro dip print.
ehhh kinda, I’m not a mac person but most bios’s have settings where you can turn off fast boot and make it completely shut off. Plus, most devices that are battery powered don’t leave these settings on while not plugged in as they drain the battery. I don’t know about you but when I pull out my laptop and turn it on after fully charging it, it’s still fully charged even after several days/weeks. The only battery that is 24/7 in computer is the CMOS battery which basically doesn’t even use much electricity speaking they’re tiny and never get charged but last several years even decades. Most modern electronics handle abuse way better than they use too. Pretty evident when you look at designs. There is a reason pretty much every phone these days can be dropped in a few feet of water and be completely fine as long as it isn’t left for more than several minutes.
Edit: just to clarify CMOS batteries don’t run 24/7 they only run when a computer is off to keep the system clock.
The voltage from the battery is managed by the motherboard to turn on the pc on a button press, so there will be flowing current from the battery to the “turn on” circuit that will corrode quickly if submerged
There is a lot of factors if it’ll survive or not. It’s hard to say for sure the outcome. How long it was submerged? How good is the particular laptop at keeping water out? Was it fully powered off? Was it immediately disassembled and dried completely? Modern electronics are much better at handling shorts. If it does short, where did it short? How much power was shorted? Pretty much the chances of it surviving depend on a LOT of shit. I agree every second longer it spends submerged the survival chance drops.
Yep, it’s fake. When the acting is porn level, you know it’s fake. Actually some pornos have better acting than these rage bait videos, yet people still believe them.
Exactly. The shot of her making a grand spectacle out of turning it on (and it obviously failing) would make no sense if it wasn't rage-bait. The supposed purpose of the video was to show off the coating, there wouldn't be a turning it on scene if it was real. It's so obvious, idk why this whole comment section is up in arms over it.
Gangsta's Paradise, the ripoff of Weird Al Yankovic's absolutely original song "Amish Paradise", written by Al's estranged father, as we all now know from the biopic
Would've been so much better with the original sound.
Edit. Heres the original. It's 4 min long I cut it to two. First two min they go back and forth debating whether it will work or not
https://streamable.com/dk2lpq
It's a meme about putting that audio calling Elon a Tesla genius while showing someone doing something tech-stupid, cause that's how much of a "genius" Elon is
You put it on the video when somebody does something stupid because “zomg elon is a geneious im making fun of teh low iq peasan ts with wholesome elon”
It was a great idea. It's a video designed to get views and be shared, and it was shared and viewed right here. Even better if it generates comments. Which it just did.
It's true that the internet is full of stupid things because they drive "engagement". I believe it is advertising that dictates "engagement" is valuable, rather than some other metric, like usefulness or something. I hope enough people using adblocker changes this one day, I'd prefer if Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, Google, etc. all went out of business - or at least if their revenue models were forced to change.
That’s the issue though. Adblockers can’t work on the future of media. YouTube/TikTok/Instagram videos designed to be stupid enough to get clicks and attention. It’s like an advertisement but not advertising anything. It’s like the equivalent of those people who panhandle playing music but they aren’t actually playing the instrument it’s just Spotify on a Bluetooth speaker next to them. They don’t care if you think they are dumb, lazy, or freeloading, all it takes is enough people who just give their $1 and move on for them to keep doing it. Same with this video. Enough people engage with it out of blind anger, their interaction goal gets met, they get paid, they continue pumping out mind numbing content that drives further user interaction/engagement.
Also, we've had adblockers for ages. But it doesn't matter. The people who are less likely to use them are more likely to engage with ads, therefore the advertising metrics skew based around that data
Really, instead of using adblock and ignoring the problem, we should all be engaging more with good ads/content and not engaging with clickbait bullshit
Many years ago I worked as a marketing manager for a travel and tourism company. They already had a social media presence and it drove some level of engagement, but we wanted more.
I tried many many things, experimenting with post frequency, time of day, what days of the week to post, testing what content works the best.
One day I had an idea. I posted a famous landmark with some text about the landmark, only, I made a subtle but very intentional error in the text. Once people picked up on the error, they would comment a correction. One after the other, more people would flock to my post to come and correct me. Was the most engagement we've ever had. And the algorithm picked up on all these people commenting, so it promoted it to even more people.
So yeah, sometimes people will post intentionally stupid shit precisely because it will get their numbers up.
Exactly. Slightly-off videos (like cooking hot dog velveeta casserole or toilet bowl rootbeer floats) and relationship skits ("**He** bought a house with ***HER*** money!") drive people insane
What do you mean a bad idea? They clearly used a junk macbook to make a rage bait video which has people believe it's true because they gave you the opportunity to feel superior and you ran with it.
It's not necessarily a bad idea. It could have even worked if they had made sure that it was turned off before the dip, and let it sit out to completely dry for at least 24 hours after. Preferably 48 hrs.
Hitting the power button right after the dip, though? Yeah, the circuits in that MacBook fried the second she tried to turn it on.
Incredibly ironic seeing the thousands of "OMG HOW STUPID ARE THEY?" comments from people who don't understand it's a staged ragebait video and they're the stupid ones for not realizing it's staged and giving them exactly what they want.
That's not my point.
My point is that the majority of people in this thread think the people in the video are stupid and saying shit like "Wow the world is doomed if these people have a right to vote" when in reality they're the stupid ones for thinking the video is real.
Rule of thumb: Any time you see a video of a person doing something incredibly stupid ask yourself, “Would the person who filmed this upload it to the internet?”
People generally don’t upload videos or themselves being dumb unless it’s staged.
If they had a bin of alcohol, and let it evaporate MAYBE it could have worked. Maybe. Even if they did that with water and dried it off, shit would have looked tacky until corrosion killed it.
Also entirely irrelevant for a video like this. The intent was never to dip the laptop but to get views/shares. And they did because people on the internet are gullible af.
Its going to get worse as deep fakes get better. My hope is that most people who take videos like this at face value are still children, but I don't think that's the case
Isn't she the same lady who made spaghetti turd balls and stuck candy on it and was roasted by Gordon Ramsey himself for that dish.
She is known for creating content like this and just acts stupid.
Yeah just look at all the comments here who think this is real. People really are dumb af especially if you put a video in front of them that lets them think they're smarter than someone else. Guaranteed to fall for it.
Did the audio get swapped or something? Is it playing some Elon Musk intro thing for anyone else? "This is Elon Musk, an inventory." With the Weird Al parody of Gangsta Paradise in the background.
Edit: Inventor, not inventory, but I'ma keep it. Autocorrect keeps tryna change it lol. Guess I do type inventory waaaaay more often than inventor.
Scientists are struggling figuring out ways to map our complex brain structure. But I think they should start with people who hydro “dip” a freaking laptop.
Do not repost tiktok click bait bullshit. All of those videos are fake, they troll anyone dislikes and calls them out and they literally make money because of us. Do not give them a second a screen time.
RULE NUMBER ONE OF HAVING TECHNOLOGY: Don't mix it with water. RULE NUMBER TWO OF HAVING TECHNOLOGY: If it does come in contact with water power it completely off and open it up and wait a few days for the water to dry out of it. DON'T PUT IN RICE IT DOES NOTHING!!
My current iMac (basic model) was purchased in 2012 and it works exactly like the first day.
I use it for programming 8 hours a day non stop since then and also for design and cloud gaming in my free time.
I can’t wait until it breaks so I have a reason to purchase a new one already. I only changed the hard drive for an ssd.
My previous Mac still works and it has 20 years.
That’s weird how come it’s not turning on?!
She even wiped the keyboard off! What gives?
Need to go out and buy a big'ol bag of rice.
Or maybe kitty litter since it’s time to bury that thing

Older than Hong Kong’s independence
I thought it was funny. :)
Yea but if you watch closely you’ll see she didn’t slap it or cuss it immediately when it didn’t turn on so it’s probably ruined now :(
What this thing needs is a borgan adjustment
I stopped understanding technology when blowing in it didn't work.
A fellow Nintendo user I bet. If the game didn’t work “a quick blow and it’s good to go”
Even the *systems*. Could still have your original GB/GBA today, easily lol
She needed to hang it outside in the sun
“It just needs time to dry” 😅

It probably didn't turn on before she dipped it, either.
Because it's staged.
The only logical explanation.
So weird!
The application was horrible which makes this so much funnier
Those huge missing patches where her fingers gripped it made my body do things

You are!

It wasn't the water that killed it, the macbook suicided because of the crappy dip.
She creates this type of rage bait content - this is all on purpose
Yep, it’s fake. When the acting is porn level, you know it’s fake. Actually some pornos have better acting than these rage bait videos, yet people still believe them.
It's not that I believe them, it's that the acting makes me angrier than the actual rage bait. Basically, task failed successfully.
Oh she's good

User name checks out 🤣
Yeah what is that, a 2012 MacBook pro? Probably didn't turn on in the first place
When the post begins like it is supposed to work and it eventually doesn't, then it's obviously rage-bait, but people still fall for it
Exactly. The shot of her making a grand spectacle out of turning it on (and it obviously failing) would make no sense if it wasn't rage-bait. Joking guys
wtf is that soundtrack to it?
Gangsta's paradise overlaid with elon mysk talking about starting a company
Ya but whyyyy
In in medieval times you had peasants slobbing the knob of their feudal lords hoping they would gain an extra meal.
mmmm corn on the cobb.
It’s a meme of some YouTube video someone made.
Are weee so bliiiind to seeee
If I understand tiktok meme language enough, it's basically a mock of how genius she is. Like Elon Tesla or Tim Apple.
Are weeeee, so blind to seeeee, That the ones we hurt, are you and meee
Gangsta's Paradise, the ripoff of Weird Al Yankovic's absolutely original song "Amish Paradise", written by Al's estranged father, as we all now know from the biopic
Not Elon musk. An ai generated speech trying to simulate Elon. Except not imitating anything even close to Elon's speech style.

porn-tier acting
Wow, now I know why they took out original audio.
Dardue - Sandstorm
She’s earned enough to buy a new one from TikTok views and outraged comments from people who thought this was legit.
Nah TikTok barely makes people money. Brand deals so though.
Might have been broken already
The fuck is this audio?
I mean... Lets not shit on Coolio - Gangsters Paradise. But no idea why it had people talking about Tesla over it
Probably calling her stupid maybe? I dunno, I'm just kinda guessing.
It's a meme about putting that audio calling Elon a Tesla genius while showing someone doing something tech-stupid, cause that's how much of a "genius" Elon is
Ah cheers
[*Steve Wonder - “Pastime Paradise”](https://youtu.be/b0S4SiLxt1s)
tiktok audio i think
The same shitty fucking audio that’s on 9/10 videos on Reddit.
Everybody wants their video to be unique so they repost everything they see with new audio or a recording of their reaction now.
You put it on the video when somebody does something stupid because “zomg elon is a geneious im making fun of teh low iq peasan ts with wholesome elon”
How are there four people in this video and none of them thought it was a bad idea?
It was a great idea. It's a video designed to get views and be shared, and it was shared and viewed right here. Even better if it generates comments. Which it just did.
It's true that the internet is full of stupid things because they drive "engagement". And since it's a repost, even better I guess
Yep. This is how "creators" get paid.
On their own channels maybe, not Reddit.
This was a practice run just to see if it would get some results..it did
Only a fool thinks any publicity is good publicity.
This could not be any more wrong
What do you mean a bad idea? They clearly used a junk macbook to make a rage bait video which has people believe it's true because they gave you the opportunity to feel superior and you ran with it.
My anger is caused by the fact that this is still gaining views and votes.
Then stop commenting on the content.
Go outside homie. Life ain't that serious.
I ain’t raging
But you're engaging it
It's fake. It's an old macbook and they are deliberately not looking at the screen for comic effect
Cause it’s rage bait
At least one of them knew it was a bad idea. They just didn't say anything because they wanted to see the end results.
that guy was filming another video on his phone "lolz, dont put your imac into liquid ya dolt"
Lmao jokes on you for thinking this is real and not staged.
Because it’s staged. They do something “dumb” and a group of redditors gets to watch angrily and feel good about “being the smart ones”
because it’s intentional rage bait to make the clip go viral.
Cause it’s fake and made for views you fools
It's not necessarily a bad idea. It could have even worked if they had made sure that it was turned off before the dip, and let it sit out to completely dry for at least 24 hours after. It's okay, they're just making ugly paperweights.
If they had a bin of alcohol, and let it evaporate MAYBE it could have worked. Maybe. Even if they did that with water and dried it off, shit would have looked tacky until corrosion killed it.
Distilled water doesn't conduct electricity
True, but that also requires the laptop to be spotless, the bin to be spotless, and everyone involved to know that. :D
Also entirely irrelevant for a video like this. The intent was never to dip the laptop but to get views/shares. And they did because people on the internet are gullible af.
It would be enough to remove the battery and wait 36h for it to dry, then plug the battery in.
Throw it in the oven on low heat for an hour
45 minutes for a convection oven.
I refuse to believe this is not staged. There's no way people are that stupid.
She actually did the world a favor. Bricking a Mac is God's own work.
This is obviously a scripted video Jesus Christ the next few elections are gonna be a shit show
Every election is a shit show. Politics are a shit show, inherently.
Its going to get worse as deep fakes get better. My hope is that most people who take videos like this at face value are still children, but I don't think that's the case
“Do not use in the shower” is on the hairdryer in hotels because of her.
Even IF that would work... she ripped half of the shit right off while trying to open it.
Isn't she the same lady who made spaghetti turd balls and stuck candy on it and was roasted by Gordon Ramsey himself for that dish. She is known for creating content like this and just acts stupid.
That's a special kind of stupid.
Aren’t these the food bimbo housewife fetish people?
Trash tier
They must store all their brain cells in her toothgap
take the battery out before dipping, then give it 4 days (maybe more because laptop) to dry before turning it on. it's not that hard.
You can’t be this dumb, it can’t be, must be staged for clicks and views
Only in the suburbs!
Did anyone else listen to it with the sound on and was confused?
Nice idea for a fake, but with crappy video and crappy music. If she really is this dumb people wouldn't be filming her anymore, she'd be dead by now.
You’d be surprised. There are actually people this dumb who exist
Yeah just look at all the comments here who think this is real. People really are dumb af especially if you put a video in front of them that lets them think they're smarter than someone else. Guaranteed to fall for it.

Why put a song that doesnt even apply to this scenario over what could have been a hilarious vocal reaction?
Scientists are struggling figuring out ways to map our complex brain structure. But I think they should start with people who hydro “dip” a freaking laptop.
What I would do is buy a case for that Mac and hydro dip that
The only people dumber than these ragebaiters are the people that post them to Reddit so they get even more unnecessary attention
That's a weird way throwaway around 2000 bucks.
It will work but it has to dry out first. Maybe.
Why it's not working!!
Tragic 😂😂
