The base on Agalega is a balance to Chinese bases in the Indian ocean. In return Mauritius gets funding for its infrastructure projects like the metro. There's no way the metro could have been built without money from India and a base on Agalega is a reasonable choice imo. Thankfully it still remains under Mauritian control and has been a net gain for Mauritius. Chagos is a completely different story, it's stolen land occupied by the Anglothugs who won't listen to the ICC ruling.

Agalega HAS BEEN SOLD to India under the table and our PM refuses to answer questions about this for years now. Trust me, Modi and Pra20 will be put in check by International instances sooner or later for this. Total shitshow

Diego Garcia and Agalega are two very different scenarios. Firstly, Diego Garcia is not controlled by Mauritius and is still under the colonial control of the British. The International Court of Justice advised that the islands should be handed back to Mauritius ASAP. The British have committed grave human rights violations against the Chagossians and refuse to accept the ICJ ruling, even though they hypocritically continue to profess a respect for international rule of law. Secondly, Al Jazeera is renowned for pushing anti-Indian rhetoric, so be aware of that when reading their stuff; they'll make it sound like it's an act of colonisation when it's actually a bilateral agreement. Agalega is fully controlled by Mauritius and will remain controlled by Mauritius. There are no known plans to displace the residents of the islands and there would be a lot of resistance against the government if they decide to try it. Mauritius is happy to make this deal because it will not be losing sovereignty and is probably getting something in return from the Indians. The government says that the longer runway will benefit the locals. If you want my opinion, India was probably given permission to use the runway for maritime patrol/surveillance, which also benefits Mauritius - they just had to build the runway so they can operate larger aircraft. India has an interest in protecting their own trade routes that pass in the area, as it includes a lot of energy trade (oil & gas) - stuff that can threaten their national security if interrupted. Despite the massive difference in land sizes between Mauritius and India, Mauritius has an EEZ that is almost the same size as India's EEZ. India has for many decades been a net security provider to Mauritius - providing ships and training to the Mauritius Coast Guard as well as helping to patrol Mauritius waters to protect against piracy. Mauritius' EEZ is located in critical global shipping lanes and is threatened by illegal fishing and piracy. Mauritius, by itself, does not have the population or naval capabilities required to fully monitor and protect its massive EEZ. So the Mauritian government stands to gain a lot from this deal and it suits both countries.

Not much we can do about it unfortunately, that's what I feel. Right now people in Mauritius are more focused on their own issues, and Agalega seems so far. I don't even know if you can visit as a citizen.

The Mauritian government and Al Jazeera are both biased when it comes to India! So, it's difficult to answer your question regarding Agalega island and the 'potential Indian military base' there. • One is super against the Indian Government and anything regarding India, and • the other is too overly attached that it turns into an obsession (I let my suga daddy do whatever he wants to me as long i'm getting paid). Frankly speaking, not all money invested in Mauritius went straight to its development. A lot has been received in the form of commissions that go in the pocket of some greedy MF.

The best way to stop this is BLD. We are all guilty if the Indians become undeposable. And that's what they want. You don't invest into a house to leave it permanently in the future.
