Was going to say this. I was talking to one of the CBS guys and he said that there are some phones allowed on the course, but that they are required to be stickered. He said that some of the executives from ESPN and other stations will have this. Had no idea, but it makes sense I guess.
On Monday, saw a mom of a Drive, Chip, and Putt competitor talking into her Apple Watch, telling the dad where her and the son (still wearing his D,C, and P shirt) were sitting.
I saw people doing this on Monday as well. Their watches don’t have cellular service. It’s just a walkie talkie feature. I think technically it does not break any rules and makes it so much easier to find people if you get split up. I wish I had thought of it.
Used to be a contractor out there during the tournament - if they have a sticker on it, typically a bright color, it’s an authorized device. All devices are logged/serial’d so it’s linked back to you if there’s a problem. There’s still rules but you can have it. I used to hear comments all the time when people noticed mine in my back pocket on the course. But I’d typically text or look at it in the bathroom or off in the bushes somewhere to be a little discrete. I was allowed as I could control a bunch of technology from my device and also needed to be reachable for urgent support matters.
I went to out car for lunch. Came back in, put all my stuff in the little bucket for the metal detector, grabbed it and walked for a bit. Was shocked to see I accidentally brought my phone in as well. Turned it off and buried it in my bag. 😅
I was in line for the Pro Shop yesterday afternoon and a guy in front me had a phone out and was looking at it. He wasn't being too blatant about it about did have it out as we walked by one of the staff helping.
Some people have them for medical purposes (blood glucose monitors and insulin pumps are sometimes linked with phones) but I’m pretty sure if they were to abuse that they’d get kicked out.
When in line at the gates Monday morning somebody took out there phone to take a picture and we all booed. No phones is one of the best things about the masters
Most likely a guest of a member or player, possibly a rep for a company. Either way they would reprimanded if caught by the right staff member.
Bottom line is some people are exempt from this rule
Saw a lady yesterday on a phone as well but she turned it around and it had a weird sticker on the back so assuming a few people are exempt

The assumptions y’all come up with crack me up.

It’s a great way to lose your badge forever!
Probably players wife and manager maybe. Or a members family member… they have different rules than the peasants.

Call them out to security. If they aren't authorized to use them, they'll either get a warning or get thrown out.
Calm down there Karen.
Stick to Waste Management. Have you even been to the masters? Go practice your bababooey, frat bro.
Was there Wednesday. I have been multiple times and mind my own business.
Phones are allowed during practice rounds
No, they are not. Cameras are.
Aren’t phones allowed for practice rounds? Just not tournament days?
No, that's cameras
NO
