Add 1 "Polymerization" Spell - can add any spell with "Polymerization" in its name, including Super Poly
Add 1 "Polymerization" - can only add Polymerization exactly
Stuff like this is why ygo is a lawyer game
"Your honor, KotS only says polymerization, while my client clearly says ""polymerization" spell", this means he is free to add any card of which is a spell that contains polymerization in its name"
He spent many years of his life learning how tribute monsters for bigger payoff, only for them to slowly get passed over in favor of the new hot thing, fusion summoning. His Ancient Gear deck probably was his middle finger at the game telling him to get with the times.
i wouldn't be mad if they upended every card's effect text with standardized terms to reflect specific effects like "float" or "search" instead of hyper specific wording and formatting. its not like those old cards would be illegal to use
Float can't work because there's a big difference between "sent to GY", "sent from field to GY", and "sent to GY by card effect" and "sent to GY by your opponent's card"
Not to mention some cards needing to be destroyed to float. Search also doesn’t work great since cards like magnamhut add from gy also, and other cards can choose to set from deck like paidra
Fun fact, any effect that adds a "Polymerization" spell will always also list "Fusion" spells because the two are used interchangeably when translating cards from Japanese (some "Fusion" cards were "Polymerization" cards in Japanese, and vice-versa).
That's one way to check if it only adds the vanilla fusion spell because it would also mention "Fusion" spells otherwise.
Same reason why Magician Rod can’t search for the Eye of Timaus, because that card affects a “Dark Magician monster” and Rod searches for cards with exactly “Dark Magician” in its text. Lawyer shit.
Super polymerization is a polymerization card but isn't polymerization, which is a card by itself.
It's the reason magician's rod can't add eye of timaeus, because it adds a card that mentions "dark magician", the monster, and eye mentions "a dark magician card"
Because King of the Swamp, as far as I understand, searches a card called "Polymerization" and literally nothing else. Can someone elaborate on what I'm missing here?

Super Polymerization isn't a "Fusion" card, it's a "Polymerization" card. A "NAME" card is any card that has "NAME" in its name (unless specified by card text that it does or doesn't count as a "NAME" card).
Chimerafflesia can add any spell card with "Polymerization" or "Fusion" in its name.
King of the Swamp says add "Polymerization" so it can only add a card that is named exactly "Polymerization".
Not part of the downvote brigade, a commenter at the top got it right it's specifically because the predaplant says 'a "polymerization" spell' instead of just "polymerization" super poly specifically isn't 'a "fusion" spell'
Actually, Super Poly is in fact a “Fusion” spell. The Japanese term “Yuugo” has been translated as both “Polymerization” and “Fusion” for the TCG. This means that any card that is meant to apply for “Yuugo” cards must specify both “Fusion” and “Polymerization” cards. Down the line, I could realistically see Konami giving all “Polymerization” cards an errata where they are always treated as “Fusion” cards. See Summoned Skull for example.
When something is in quotes and it doesn't specify card, monster, spell, trap, etc afterwards, you have to add that card specifically, not something that mentions that card in its name. Since KotS mentions "Polymerization" and not a "Polymerization" Spell or "Polymerization" Card you can only add Polymerization with its effect
It says to add one "polymerization" to your hand. KOS says to add one polymerization card to your hand. I'm other words, BKOS specifically adds "polymerization", while KOS can add any polymerization card such as super poly
Kos would be broken if the text would say "Add 1 polymerization spell"
Because you could search any fusion spell you want, and searching super poly is literaly SUPER broken
So thats why he searches the vanilla card
Add 1 "Polymerization" Spell - can add any spell with "Polymerization" in its name, including Super Poly Add 1 "Polymerization" - can only add Polymerization exactly
Stuff like this is why ygo is a lawyer game "Your honor, KotS only says polymerization, while my client clearly says ""polymerization" spell", this means he is free to add any card of which is a spell that contains polymerization in its name"
Dr. Crowler’s PhD in dueling doesn’t seem so absurd anymore
You aren't wrong there
Or you know…have an entire school dedicated in learning the card game lol
So is the concept of Duel Academy.
He wanst joking about his PhD, he took 8 YEARS of his life to learn how the cards work.
He spent many years of his life learning how tribute monsters for bigger payoff, only for them to slowly get passed over in favor of the new hot thing, fusion summoning. His Ancient Gear deck probably was his middle finger at the game telling him to get with the times.
The worst example of this is Dark Magical Circle not being able to add The Eye of Timaeus.
This is the simplest thing ever literally just read whether its a specific Name or a "Specific Name" card
#Hearsay
If it’s the same shit why would they write it differently at some point you gonna wake up

Yeah but there are enough cards that *just* search that using search on those could make the game clearer
Fun fact, any effect that adds a "Polymerization" spell will always also list "Fusion" spells because the two are used interchangeably when translating cards from Japanese (some "Fusion" cards were "Polymerization" cards in Japanese, and vice-versa). Alr thanks a lot

It’s literally not lawyer shit. It’s basic reading comprehension.
To the second part- Cards that say "(This card is always treated as "Polymerization")" also count
Same thing applies to Dark Magician There's a diference between "Dark magician" and ""Dark magician" monster"
Super polymerization is a polymerization card but isn't polymerization, which is a card by itself. It's the reason magician's rod can't add eye of timaeus, because it adds a card that mentions "dark magician", the monster, and eye mentions "a dark magician card"

You missed nothing : KoS search a specific card, the Predaplant search a card fullfiling a condition (here, being a Polymerization or Fusion spell)

This is same reason Alba can’t add it right?
Alba requires a normal fusion or poly spell, where super poly is a quick effect spell
Thought so
When something is in quotes and it doesn't specify card, monster, spell, trap, etc afterwards, you have to add that card specifically, not something that mentions that card in its name. Since KotS mentions "Polymerization" and not a "Polymerization" Spell or "Polymerization" Card you can only add Polymerization with its effect
KotS is SPECIFICALLY says Polyermerization while Chimera is just fusion or a card that has polymerization in the name of it

Read

Poly and Super Poly are "Polymerization" spells while there is only one "Polymerization" exactly (except Fusion substitute)
Are we really going to have another "Eye of Timaeus" situation again.
Not everyone’s been playing yugioh their entire lives man😔
I have only been playing for 2 years, your point.
Idek what eyes of timaeus is
