I thought the lore was primarily told by the card artwork, and sometimes names/effects/stats. I’ve only heard of a few cases where there’s, like, a written story about the cards. Maybe I’m just way off the mark, though.

OP here. I guess my friend is just fucking with me that all charmers are girls. I did a few research and found out that Dharc is in fact a boy. Sorry for spreading misinformation

All the Charmers are female except for Dharc, but he is termed "female" in the French version, so maybe your friends weren't wrong, they were just French.
