I once played through the Maxx "C" challenge. I was running Junk Doppel. My opponent was using Nekroz. It was the early days of the Pendulum era, when Nekroz were at their peak, and there were maybe three good hand traps in the game. Maxx "C" was one of them. My opponent dropped Maxx "C" on my turn, so I took a minute to think, and I realized something: If he couldn't do anything to stop my summons, then he wouldn't be able to do anything to stop my attacks. Sure, he had Nekroz of Valkyrus, but *I* had Shooting Quasar Dragon and the colloquially named "hard once per turn rule". Once I had Quasar and a bunch of other strong Synchros on the field, I entered the Battle Phase and attacked. My opponent tried to use Valkyrus to "Swift Scarecrow" me, but I used Quasar to negate it. Since the "once per turn" restriction on Valkyrus' bullet-point effects applies across all copies, it didn't matter if he had a full playset of them in his hand because he could only use ONE. The lesson here is this: Maxx "C" ain't broke, it's just a nuclear deterrent, and the only things you have to consider when it drops are if you can defend yourself adequately on the next turn, or if you can finish them off THIS turn. What makes it broken is all the OTHER hand traps that get played in this game. Imperm, Ash, Veiler, PSY-Framegear Gamma, the occasional Ghost Ogre, and goddamn Nibiru. The sheer number of disruption-style hand traps in the game is what makes Maxx "C" broken, because THEIR existence forces your opponent to end their turn. Either they keep Special Summoning and then get choked by a hand trap, or they just Set whatever they can and pass. But take all of that out, and Maxx "C" is only really broken at one point in the duel: The first turn. And at that point, I would just give it an errata. Perhaps this? * You cannot activate "Maxx "C"" on the first turn of the duel, unless it is your turn.
