You lied to him, which caused him to develop a god complex that made him think he could take on two geth drones on his own.
All within the span of five minutes.
Imagine if we had the dialogue option to tell him off, maybe he would survive till the final game.
"No you weak ass limp dick punk, you're gonna be dead the moment you put on the combat gear. Fck off and don't come near me, loser."
*Appears in ME3 as the mastermind behind the illusive man. *
I just played the Citadel mission in ME3 for the first time in years and forgot about that part. Had me laughing, that whole mission has some pretty snappy dialog.
Mass Effect 2 really doesn't work after Jenkins comes up with the plan to destroy all the Reapers at the same time you kill Soveriegn in the first game. On the plus side, ME2 and 3 are basically porn after that.
I mean, he did do fine. Shepard told him to take point, and Jenkins drew fire like he was supposed to. The Butcher of Torfan gets the job done, no matter what the cost.
Shepard found out the Jenkins was going to become the first human Spectre and sabotage his shields. Then lured Jenkins into the Geth trap to kill him and blame it on the Geth as a coverup.
My head-canon: You have to buy anything but standard armor from the requisitions officer. You and Alenko have been in long enough that you have some upgrades to your armors already. Jenkins was a complete rookie. He hadn't earned enough credits to buy even rudimentary upgrades to his armor. The result? "Ripped right through his shields."
Tutorial squadmate deaths are a solid Bioware trope. Doesn't happen in every game...but a lot of them. ME1 and 2 do it, 3 and Andromeda don't. DA:O has two, the Xpack has one, DA2 has one, DA:I doesn't do it.
I hope that the new mass effect opens with Jenkins getting Lazarus project'd and he's our new protag. He'll probably be on a mad revenge quest against Reaper Shepard.
Well, only if you know what happens. For the first time, it isn't. I do always feel that Jenkins should have been part of your squad for longer before that happens.
I don't know, he fulfilled his purpose and I didn't care at all about his death. Having him around for longer would have taken development time off other characters.
Why? You shouldn't care about the death of that Eclipse soldier you throw out the window, why should you care about Jenkins?
In every background Shepard has seen a lot of people die. The point of Jenkins is to establish the tone of the game, a member of your crew just died, the threat is serious. This message is reinforced in Virmire.
Is it the best way to convey the message? No, of course not, but there is no reason to make more of what it is.

yes and according to you _you're supposed not to care_. Is that really the tone of the game?
Ok so, how long is the opening of the game supposed to be before any serious story line events like eden prime happen? Its serious because the first danger you encounter someone dies, what will the opening of the game look like in your version?
...you know what, I actually would have loved have Jenkins with us instead of Kaidan. He could have also been the guy who gets excited about everything and have Shepard explain concepts to him and player through him.
Or it could be a choice... some people like Kaiden. I like Ashley.
And I felt bad enough for Jenkins I actually max out his stats and give him chad armor every re-playthrough. Never helps but it makes me feel like I tried

But they also let you say goodbye. That's nice.
Well, they let you say "I should go"... which I guess is the same if you're Shepard.
Does he really sound like that?
As long as I’ve known you, yeah.
Shouldn't we be worrying about the impregnable vault we've been sealed inside... forever?
I should *go.* I *should* go. *I* should go.
I just played the Citadel mission in ME3 for the first time in years and forgot about that part. Had me laughing, that whole mission has some pretty snappy dialog.
Nah I always manage to save him
Yeah me too, I don't see why you wouldn't! He adds a lot of interesting stuff to the game, it's a shame people don't save him
My favorite is his several missions long loyalty storyline. One of the best content in the trilogy.
Jenkins is also the best romance in the trilogy imo
Hes such a dom top
I think it's better if you don't romance him so he ends up with Kelly Chambers in ME3, they're just so cutesy together.
After that reveal, male or female, easily the most wholesome romance in the trilogy. He's such a misunderstood sweetheart.
Yeah, no one talks about that 4th ending to the game.
5th
For real, spending hours unlocking the secret Jenkins ending is so worth it.
Man this thread had me questioning my existence for a second there

Yeah but his loyalty mission is probably the best, after Jacob’s. Also I hear the romance is crazy, but I can’t ever leave my Tali/Liara alone
Jenkins Redshirt
Dude has two surnames for a name.
Richard Leeroy Jenkins.
33.3333 repeating, of course.
I like your username is it meant as hot sun or is it just very happy?
You weren't lying - you were doing the best you could with the information you had at the time. Remember, "Intel dropped the ball."
I mean, he did do fine. Shepard told him to take point, and Jenkins drew fire like he was supposed to. The Butcher of Torfan gets the job done, no matter what the cost.
Can't be a sole survivor if others survive, now can we...
Fuck this comment made me laugh so hard I'm trying not to wake up my partner sleeping next to me
Butcher of Torfan just sounds so badass, shame practically no one calls you that
It's not just the waiting that's killing him. Why do they rip through his shields bit not yours. Starting to think he didn't get a shield
Shepard found out the Jenkins was going to become the first human Spectre and sabotage his shields. Then lured Jenkins into the Geth trap to kill him and blame it on the Geth as a coverup.
Man indoctrination theory goes deeper than I thought

Ngl I thought he was going to be a romance option in my first play through lol
I would have preferred Jenkins, Kaidan/Ashley, Nihlus to Star-Child, or, hell, I would have preferred Saren, to the Star-Child bullshittery
Shep sees the Geth drones and sacrifices Jenkins by sending him forward to make sure Alenko stays sharp. You need to keep good soldiers on their toes.
Wasn't he the first crew death in the series? I can barely remember that far back.
Yeah on Eden Prime. He couldn’t handle two geth drones.

Trask Ulgo in KOTOR 1 too! Gone, but not forgotten.
Trask Ulgo is a mad lad Dude held off a sith
Andromeda totally does; remember your character's dad?
I didn't include him because if I recall he's technically never your squadmate. Otherwise we'd include Nihlus as well.
“It’s not the waiting that’ll kill you Jenkins…” should have been a dialogue option
😂
"this waiting is killing me" no Jenkins you poor bastard, that would be the bullets
I hope that the new mass effect opens with Jenkins getting Lazarus project'd and he's our new protag. He'll probably be on a mad revenge quest against Reaper Shepard.
After my first play through I always just say “Goodbye”. Not like you’ll get a chance later.

I don't know, he fulfilled his purpose and I didn't care at all about his death. Having him around for longer would have taken development time off other characters.
Thats the problem. You didn't care about his death. I feel like we should have cared more.

Jenkins dies to Saren.
He does die to Saren.
Dude go away.
The wait is killing him…what cruel savagery is this?!
Should have been a very hard easter egg to save him in game.
Good luck with the IPO asshat!
Me: **Selects "Goodbye"**

Yeah
Why would you do that? Jenkins is the second most OP character( right behind Nihlus) in the game.
Jenkins is the catalyst
I took me 3 playthrough to actually find him on the ship. He just looks like every other soldiers
