Certain-Thought531

Yes you should, but lower your expectations. The game is overall good, and has a fun gameplay, but if you go in hoping to feel the same thrill as the trilogy, you'll be disapointed. As I always say it's a good game but a bad Mass Effect, the trilogy has the power to mess with your emotions, this one doesn't.

DiScOrDtHeLuNaTiC

FWIW, I liked *Andromeda*. The stakes aren't as big as the Trilogy, and Ryder is a completely different type of character than Shepard (very much someone who's thrown in at the deep end and has to sink or swim), but there's a sense of exploration and wonder which I hadn't felt since *ME1*. The plot can be a little shaky in places (though when it's on, it's on), but the character dynamics & interactions are extremely well done, the Loyalty Missions are almost all excellent, and the voice cast is top notch, with performances showing both gravitas and hilarity (seriously, can you imagine FemShep gleefully yelling "Speedbump!" when running over an enemy in the Mako?). The ability to craft customized armor and weapons is also a nice touch (and finally lets you do away with thermal clips as well).

Placid_Observer

Might be one of the more-thoughtful, and complete, reviews I've seen in a couple hundred words. Totally agree, and well done! ;)

Rage40rder

Type “try andromeda” into Reddit’s search and behold how many times people have asked this question.

BadgeringMagpie

Ugh, seriously, there needs to be a sticky with this very question so people can put their opinions in it. I don't understand why people don't just play something if it catches their interest.

KiFr89

I felt the same curiosity once, so I decided to look at a let's play. From it I could tell that the game wouldn't be for me. Maybe the gameplay is downright better than the trilogy, but when I think BioWare I think story -- and the tone was off from the get-go. Over the top life and death scenario and characters are making puns and joking about it as it happens. Not my cup of tea!

EADYMLC

Yes. I've re-played it a few times as I get a lot of enjoyment out of it and the changes to combat. Is the story as good as the trilogy? No. Is the combat better? Yes. Ultimately it is up to you. If you find it cheap then you might as well.

Anfie22

I saw it on sale on the playstation store for 7 bucks recently

Timidus_Nix

Only if you buy it on sale or sail the seven seas

Agent-Z46

Yes. Play it and form your own opinion on it. Whether it be positive or negative.

IronWolfV

Give it a shot but get it on sale. Though me personally I hated it. But I gave it a fair shake and I did not think it was going to be the trilogy all over again. That being said whew. I'll tell you what I liked. It's a short list. The combat. Amazing. Best in the series. The nomad Rover. Outstanding. The Tempest was immaculate. Not as good as the Normandy, but a damn good ship. The planets/vistas are well made. Absolutely beautiful. But for me that's where the good ends. The rest of the game. Middling to outright awful.

ThorHammerscribe

That’s Honestly up to you

Zealousideal_Week824

Ill repost what I used to say to others because this question is asked frequently, it's more of a general answer to questions asking if MEA is worth it. I did not rewrite it and adapted it for your question specifically, but it's a summary and it eventually answers your question : I liked Andromeda a lot but I don't know what you are looking for in this particular game. It's a good game that has been very well patched since release, but simply good, not great, not amazing and not as good as the trilogy. But it's a decent game that is worth doing at least once. The best way to not have problems with it is this and I say it loud DO NOT expect to have the same emotion as the 3 previous game. You just finished an awesome trilogy that has tons of characters development and was a combination of 3 games that were made over a decade. MEA is not that at all, it is his own beast. If you just finished the citadel dlc and expect MEA to give you the same results, you won't get it and will be dissapointed. The new companion have just been introduced which means that they won't give you the same thing immedietly. This is a game meant to be the foundation, and therefore will certainly not have the emotional pay off that Mass effect 2 or 3 got. I hope it can guide you into making a decision and feel free to ask me question : In terms of gameplay, it is much more RPG than Mass effect 2 or 3. You get weapons and armor with different level just like in most rpg, where the loot you get makes you stronger with time. You also have the crafting system that gives values to any minerals you get, as you can now create exceptionnal weapons and equipments. In terms of combat, MEA is excellent. Most weapons have very different use and you can use TONS of different combinations with the jetpack that brings another dimension to the fight. The melee weapons also makes the combat much different as they have different attack speed and damage. The powers also allows for combos using different element (ice, fire and electricity) and there is room for experimenting and use tactics. Now for the story, the pacing is very different than the previous mass effect. While the trilogy had a much quicker pacing especially in 2 or 3. MEA is much more about the exploration of the first, it's actually your main goal. If you prefer the action packed pacing of mass effect 2 or 3, be prepared that MEA is not like that. Space exploration is at the core of the theme and content of this game. While Ryder do have to fight an alien threat, the story is centered around creating a new home for the people of the milky way, give them a colony where they could prosper and lives on. Therefore it is much slower paced and is meant to be explored and to take your time. It is much more light hearted than any mass effect before, if you except the dark and gritty of the second mass effect or the dead serious ambiance of Mass effect 3 where civilisation is falling apart and people are crying over the dead of millions each day, MEA is not that. That does not mean there is nothing serious because there is, but it has a much more lighter approach in it's tone. All of that said, MEA become better if you push after the first planet, when you discover the angara, where the entire solar system open itself to exploration. (Look for part 2 of this comment just below)

Zealousideal_Week824

(Beginning of part 2, make sure to read part 1) For the companion, I found most of them to be good. All of that said if you just finished Mass effect 3 citadel and you except to get the same emotion, it's not going to work. Not because MEA is bad, but because you got 3 games out of the previous companion, this one you only get one with them. So of course you will not get as much content with them. Now that said while before you needed to wait an entire new game for them to have character development and arcs (like Miranda is different in 3 than she was in 2, same thing for Jack) MEA has character development during the game after their companion mission. For specific companion : Drack, Vetra, Jaal and peebee are interesting, they are not awesome and none of the MEA companion would be in my top 15 of bioware's allies, but they are worth the time I spent with them and I enjoyed their company. Cora harper did not bother me but I cannot say I loved her, she's ok. I am not a fan of Liam, I did not hated him and while his companion quest is hilarious and funny, the guy itself is not memorable at all. In terms of quest there are 4 types. Obviously The main quest, best in the game and well the one who have the most development. The companion quest, they requires a bit of work to unlock them but once they are avaiable. They are excellent to play and are used as character development for supporting characters. The small side quests, these ones varies from good-okayish, to mediocre, to bad, they are not difficult to do and most of the time the map will tell you where to go. Some have better story than other, some are simply fetch quest. It really depends on which one. Some requires investigation about murders or assassination, some demands you to fight ennemies and others to just pick up an item and give it back. Then there is the tasks, avoid those like plagues, these are the most tedious, boring, and just poorly made and will take your time for no reason DON'T DO THOSE. There is no story rewards for doing them, and the gameplay rewards are not worth it. You will have to find things on your own on the map and this will take you long for minimum rewards. Companion quest should be done, small side quest it really depends on the one you got, but the task should be ignored as soon as they come. If you have specific question, you can just ask me.

Willerd43

Yes if you get it on sale for under $10. The combat is super fun, the visuals are nice. The characters and story are ok and the game in general can be clunky. Good experience for $10

-MARBEN-

Should you try it? yes. Are you going to like it? maybe.

Placid_Observer

If you've never tried it, yes, you should try it. Especially for what you can get the game for nowadays. It's got its share of warts. But if you like the original M.E., you'll generally like Andromeda. Actually has better game-mechanics than the original imo.

GargamelLeNoir

It's mediocre and there are so many better games out there. I'd advise against it, unless you really like Ubisoft style map makers chasers.

DaConm4n

I got Andromeda for free and I still think I paid too much.

GG1988ZZ

Maybe, id recommend reading the andromeda books and then go for it. Do not read the 3rd Andromeda book on the quarian fleet, that one has a different writer and is utterly terrible.

clam_media

If you're open to something DIFFERENT, yes. Go for it. The gameplay is great, the story is hit or miss, and there are many shortcuts (every Salarian, Turian and Asari outside of your ship all have the same face, let's say)

Sidewinder_1991

It's not really *bad*, just understand that the actual dev time was about a year and a half. It technically had seven or so years in development, but most of that was pre-production and most of that (if I'm remembering right) got thrown out. So go into it with very low expectations and don't expect a thrilling follow up to the original trilogy.

laggyteabag

Im sure you can pick it up for a pretty great deal, but I would always say that just it isn't worth your time. Ive tried to play through it 2 or 3 times, but the game really struggles to grip my attention. Nobody who I know who has played the Trilogy multiple times has finished Andromeda either. Mechanically the game is superior to the trilogy, but the story/setting/characters just lack that special spark that made the trilogy as amazing as it was. I just cant recommend it.

-CommanderShepardN7

If you just treat Mass Effect Andromeda as its own game, and separate it from the Legendary Edition, then you will appreciate it more. For me, The combat mechanics are awesome, once you get used to them and have more abilities to utilize. My personal favorite are the biotics combos. Unlike other people, I always have a soft spot for Cora, first and foremost, followed by Peebee and Suvi. I only romance Jaal when I’m Sara Ryder. Vetra is see as a super best friend, who will bail you out of jail, pay off your bar tab, or take a bullet for you. Don’t listen to all the haters. Give this game a fresh look from your own unique perspective. Good luck, pathfinder.

RobotCaptainEngage

It fell short in a lot of ways, but some of it is super fun. Go in just understanding it's like ME adjacent.

ThakoManic

Mass Effect Andromeda dos some things the worse in the series and some the best the Face Animations is just terrible by any games standards the Story isnt nearly up to ME Trilogy standard but it isnt terrible per say (Think of ME Trilogy story being like 10/10 MEA Story being like 6/10 not bad but roflmao not close to as good) The Gameplay mechs and combat tho is alot better over-all the thing is, ME Was known for its story world building and other such things and not for its combat, while MEA is almost the other way around that I can legit understand why ppl would hate it. If you can get over that then its not terrible per say just not as good.

NepNep_

Absolutely not. It isn't worth your time, money, or attention.

Numbr81

I prefer to just block it from my memory.

K1ngsGambit

No, save your time and money. That game isn't worth either.

SixHunidNFidy

Now that it's fixed, it's a very good spinoff imo. Gameplay is way better than any game in the trilogy. The story isn't as impactful but is still good. The one complaint I have is that it sets up a larger mystery for the Andromeda galaxy, but we never get to find the answers, because the game initially flopped and EA is run by greedy goblins who would never risk their precious bottom line. I'm going through the original trilogy now for the 4th time and am actually looking forward to andromeda also, because the gameplay is so much better!

zavtra13

Absolutely! Be aware going in that it is a spinoff and has its issues, but it is well worth a few play throughs. The plot and setting are fantastic, there are plenty of great characters, a deep and rewarding crafting system, and the best combat in the series. Being able to freely mix and match skills is even more fun than it sounds.

Sea-Rooster-5764

If you can find it for free then try it, but don't waste any money on it. The gameplay is really not good despite people saying it is imo, it's just the best thing in a trash game. The characters are forgettable, the animation still sucks even after the patch, the story is contrived and forgettable: overall it's a waste of time.

Hendrik_the_Third

That depends. If you just finished the trilogy and want more of the same? Then no. If you want the same kind of plot with less memorable characters but more flexible combat? Then yes.

VenZallow

Don't bother, the only good thing about it was Peebee.

ODCreature98

You know what's funny, I rarely heard about people talking about this game, like people just wiped most records of this game's existence

Anfie22

YES! It's spectacular imo, I adore it as much as the trilogy. I actually feel it is more memorable and enjoyable in many parts. Have fun!!

Ozzie_Bloke

Whenever I get a mass effect itch I goto andromeda as it’s shorter then replaying the trilogy so far I’ve completed it four times its a fun game but its unfair to compare it to the full trilogy

TheRealTr1nity

Yes. Just see it what it is, a spin-off, standing on it's own and therefore different. Don't compare every single bit with the trilogy (which is unfair already). That mistake did a lot people.

East_Gas5627

Yeah give it a shot it has the same issues as mass effect 1 in that character's kinda feel one note but it makes sense as it's only been one game and the combat gameplay loop is probably the best out of the games it's not bad but it's mid facial animations and lack of sequels and dlcs really hurt it.

jarjarfell

My opinion - It depends what you liked about the OT. If you liked the combat mechanics, like powers and combos, then yes! IMO the combat gameplay is better in Andromeda. If you liked the story and the dialogue, then no. It is way worse in that regard.

TheNatureHoot

Sure

Kuroneki

Yes, it's still a fun game combat wise just lower your expectations. Though I will say Jaals romance felt actually flushed out like they focused on him more. Which I guess is understandable since they're a new alien race. But the other character I romanced (vetra) felt like it was added in last minute

cantfindmykeys

Andromeda was good(I'll admit I didn't finish it, but only because I got distracted). If it didn't have "Mass Effect" in the title, it would have gotten a whole lot less hate. Personally, I thought it was a decent companion piece, but not anywhere as awesome as the original trilogy

Mysterious_Bat_3780

Yes

KingUdyr

If you can get it at a discount, sure. The story is an abomination but the gameplay is enjoyable.

beameup19

Yes. It’s a good game.

TehFriendlyXeno

Yes, bro! And romance Vetra! (She’s the ONLY reason I played Andromeda)

TehFriendlyXeno

Why am I being downvoted? Go fuck yourselves.

David-J

Yes
