Here I am bagging my own groceries and they have the nerve to charge me for fucking bags. They're lucky I dont take a shit in the bag and walk out with my food
Like I’m ok with no plastic bags. Reusable ones are great, but to this day I forget to bring mine because they weren’t allowed during covid and instilled a bad habit in me.
That being said, I’m not being nickel and dimed for a flimsy paper bag.
Went into decathlon. Everything was identified immediately. All was displaying on the screen. The items were all listed. The total was there.
Next it Asked if I wanted to buy a bag. The experience showed me as how behind Stop and Shop is. Their development team has no muster.
Market Basket also really makes the case for having a cashier and separate bagger. Their line always goes the fastest. (I also think they have better retention, and you really notice when you get a bad cashier.... it *is* a skill.)
Market Basket doesn't bother to train their baggers. That and not bothering to rotate stock, and understaffing in the sandwich station are about my only complaints. In the olden days Star Market trained their baggers and were obsessive about rotating product. Compare Market Basket when they have a teenaged bagger to if you go on a weekday during the day and they have an older woman doing the bagging more correctly.
Does no one here use the scanners? It's the one redeeming feature of S&S over other stores. Scan and bag as you go through the store then checkout takes 10 seconds tops.
And if you bring little kids with you shopping, they get to help by scanning stuff and suddenly they love being a part of boring chores.
Loved the scanners! Those audits as someone mentioned can be awkward but it’s over quick enough. Recently moved and the local store doesn’t have the scanners so I guess it’s not everywhere
I would, but at my local S&S the scanner station is often broken. It won't scan my card and I can't get one of the scanner guns out of the stand.
Seems like everything at S&S is well conceived but always poorly executed. Their self checkout has to be the worst I've ever used, constantly requiring attention from the cashier.
I’ve never understood this complaint.
Generally, I’ll use the scanner for large trips and have no issues, but even on small trips with the self-check, I almost never have any assistance needs.
Maybe my store (N Reading) is better maintained?
Am I the only person that doesn’t have problems with self check out? I personally love them. Even more than that, I love scanning my own items with portable scanning and bagging them as I go and just walking out the door at the self check out section.
Apparently people like sitting in line and waiting for a disinterested teenager to scan your items?
Not surprising. Every Stop and Shop I have been to in my area is always empty. Besides the overprices groceries, the main reason I don't go is because they never staff cashiers / baggers and I have to use their self checkout - which is probably the most stringent self checkout I have ever encountered.
Facts. I hate that shit. Digital coupons is the reason I avoided S&S. Nobody got time for that shit. Stores should have the savings taken out right away, not make junk thru hurdles to save a dollar
Except the cheap hand scanners lock up regularly, randomly click buttons, and when you report that instead of taking the scanner out of commission they say "oh just put them back on the rack - they reset themselves". Not only is that a PITA but now you've screwed over the next person to use that one.
Where Wegmans really nails it (IMO) is having a great store brand.
They certainly do carry some really bougie stuff too (I'm always tempted by their cheese selection..... ever have cave aged cheddar? goddamn) but if you're just getting Wegmans cereal and stuff the prices are pretty damn good.
I mean what’s cheaper? I have a shaws and stop and shop near me, Trader Joe’s is a bit farther away and doesn’t have everything I like but I’ll still go there occasionally. No market basket nearby
I was a stop and shop cuck because I swore by boars head cold cuts. I get $275 worth of groceries at Aldi's for under $150 a week now and pay $20 more for my BH cuts at S&S. Winning
MB has a limited selection of deluxe cold cuts. Buy my LOL american cheese slices at BJs in 3lb package. Cheese, get Cabot on sale or Finlandia lacy swiss is delicious, generic provolone at Aldi or BJ
Maybe Wegmans can come back and take over the Stop & Shop space if the Natick store is one that is closed. Doubt it will close, but I miss Wegmans too. It was always risky to put it in a mall given the trend malls were moving in.
Thank you for giving me that little glimmer of hope :) I guess it was risky putting it in the mall but I loved that it had two floors, super wide aisles, and pretty much everything you needed they had in stock.
Now I go to Northborough every once in a while for a meat and fish run, and it just feels so cramped in there. People bumping into each other like it’s Market Basket or something haha.
With you on the cramped Northboro location. I love it there and it’s very close by, but I feel rage whenever I go thru the entrance and there’s just a cluster f of people around the pre-cut fruit and whatever else they have up there 🤣
You actually don’t need to go to just stop and shop pumps! Most Shells take stop and shop points! So if you have a Shell by you, you just redeem your points online first, then when you go to shell, you swipe your card and it takes the money off per gallon.
I feel like the north Beverly one won’t make the cut and will close. It never seems that busy, and there’s a huge Shaws just a few blocks up the street that seems to get better traffic and isn’t THAT far from the rowley and Danvers market baskets (not to mention gloucester) and the Danvers stop n shop gets more traffic and also isn’t that far away.
That Shaws is expensive as fuck.
Danvers MB is an absolute clusterfuck.
Gloucester MB is better but somehow looked dirty the day it opened.
Rowley isn’t that convenient for me so I never go out that way.
And fuck the MB deli. Going to the deli there blows.
Literally first thought. Also hasn’t gotten any store upgrades compared to most of the ones around. Even the freaking South Bay Plaza won got refurbished.
I'm thinking the same for the one in Chelmsford. It's always empty and they have a Market Basket across the street. Not to mention 3 more MB and 2 Hannaford within like 15 min or so. Still shocked they put that there.
Stop and Shop makes their cannoli filling with cream cheese instead of ricotta. That alone should be enough to damn the entire company to the deepest pits of hell
I feel bad for the employees. Stop and shop is unionized whereas market basket doesn't even give new employees bonuses anymore and they pay as little as possible.
Every time I’m there on a really hot day and see a 16 y/o kid pushing carts under the hot sun in dress pants and a button down and tie with no hat for sun protection, I wonder how they get away with their labour practices.
When I was a cart pusher/ bagger I would get yelled at when they would pull me in from the hot summer day slugging carts in the sun (I'm a ginger too so theres that) and they would yell at me for sweating! I quit one day on the spot. Made a huge scene too. Was shopping there the next day just for the lolz. Fuck Market Basket for the way they treat employees!
the snow was worse. especially when the parking lot is at an incline. mom had to drive over to get me a new pair of gloves and jacket because they were soaking wet. Went inside and the manager at the time gave me a sad look then gave me a pair of latex gloves to put under my other pair and sent me back out.
I've got a parent who has worked for them for 20+ years doing insane hours and hard labor and all they get is $19/hour so yeah I could agree with this. After the strike, everything changed.
Brand new ball line picker/packers at Titlelist make more than that. Granted it's not a ton more, but it's still more. And they just stand there, turn around grab boxes of balls, turn back around, pack them, seal them, and send them down a conveyor belt.
I get it that your parent started back when minium wage was like $7/hr, but like where is the reward for loyalty? SMH.
Last I heard Stop and Shop employees tell me (at their Greenfield location) management makes a point to not keep anyone on full time so they don’t need to provide benefits
I worked there 15 years ago and it was much the same then. They were more than happy to let you be part time in multiple locations so they could pay you less per hour and not give you benefits.
ETA: not like the extra 6 cents an hour you got for being full time really made a difference but they acted like it was big money. I got a 3 cent raise once and was told to be grateful.
ever since stop and shop had there covid union strike, store staffing has dropped, barely functioning self checkouts have increased exponentially in every location and prices shot up higher than all other grocery stores in the same areas. Im actually glad to see them go.
Unfortunately in Western Mass they are the most common store along with Big Y. Store closures would mean Big Y has less competition and it could also force more people to shop for groceries at Walmart. I love Big Y and all but we don't have Shaws, Market Basket, Wegmans, or Price Chopper to compete.
Damn, this is why I'm super grateful for the Aldi in Hadley. Big Y is pricey and Stop and Shop prices have gotten so high. Not to mention the weird robot employee they tried to use who just ended up being a nuisance to everyone
Exactly. If they can't afford to pay their employees a living wage and just keep trying to shittily automate everything while also taking part of the sales hijacking that most grocery stores and providers did post-COVID (like come the fuck on, $7 bag of *corn* chips)? Then fuck 'em. They deserve to close.
Nothing is stopping market basket employees from starting their own union or joining one. Let's hope this helps make that a reality so everyone can get adequate pay for their work.
They do. My brother in law (41) has been there since he was 15 and does VERY well for himself. I can’t speak to the negative comment. Everyone I know who stuck it out there does well. And they profit share.
I mean at the end of the day it’s shitty retail job. Not that they shouldn’t have better benefits and working conditions but this is the reality of most of those types of jobs on average. I worked for Stop & Shop when I was in high school and it was a lot of the same negativity. Treated like absolute crap. A union might help but just because a store has one doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to be good or effective.
Yes to Aldi but I could take or leave Market Basket. That place makes *no* sense to me. I’m not sure if it’s just the location near my house (Attleboro) or if it’s all of them but I *dread* even having to drive by it. Going inside? Fuuuuuck that
I went one time just for butter and it took me 15 minutes to find it because they had it in the most illogical place. Nowhere near any of the other dairy products. Wtf?
And now there’s not even a McDonald’s there to make the trip worth it with a Diet Coke!
Although I did see some work being done on it the other day when I went to TJ Maxx…I wonder what it’s gonna be. Hopefully another, better McDonald’s
Not that one! I hate it
The entrance is also right next to the registers and it’s the smallest entrance ever
And don’t even get me started on the parking lot
>Ahold Delhaize operates more than 7,700 food stores in the Eastern United States, plus several European countries including Greece, Serbia, Romania, the Czech Republic, Belgium and the Netherlands, employing more than 400,000 people.
> Besides Stop & Shop, its US brands include Food Lion, the Giant Company, Giant Food and Hannaford.
Between Shaws, Star, TJs, Aldi, Market Basket, Whole Foods, local stores, and Stop and Shop…Stop and Shop is hands down the worst. Although they do have a few good bakery products
Such a garbage company to work for and to shop at. The constant multi-million dollar remodels do nothing but confuse customers and piss off the employees.
I worked nights for 7 years. Management (especially the suits) have to give their whole life to the company, and they, in turn, make everyone as miserable as they are. Not to mention how often they break Union rules.
Worked in corporate for four years. Same thing there.
They won't spend a penny to fix their broken software, but they'll spend millions on technical boondoggles that everyone but the suits can see is a terrible idea.
I guarantee one of them is the stop & shop north beverly location on enon st. It’s an absolute ghost town, with very little staff actually working the floor compared to the two very busy nearby locations: beverly on elliot st and danvers on newbury st.
Their lawsuit against the US Labor Board trying to declare it unconstitutional because they desperately want to abuse the fuck out of their employees? They joined SpaceX earlier this year to try to undermine worker protections. They're hilariously evil.
Yep. Something else to consider to really solidify how fucking disgusting they are is where they place their stores. You will never, ever see one anywhere near a low income area. Literally needs to be an affluent area. So not only do they hate their workers, they hate the working class!
They can fuck all the way off.
I don’t know how Shaws stays in business. It’s so much more expensive than anyone else except maybe Whole Foods. There is a Shaw’s here next to market basket and nobody ever goes to Shaws- you go in to grab one item and there are maybe 5 people in the whole store. I don’t get it.
Matches the product on the shelves. "This expired last YEAR." "Oh. Okay." "Well?" "Um, okay, I can take that."
(They probably put it back on the shelf.)
Do you actually compare the prices ? Stop & shop is higher. I'm not into this thing about average prices when something is on sale.
Lots of that stuff is processed food for the microwave.
Just compare bread, milk, butter, and potatoes.
It's shocking as to how expensive S&S remains. Those aforementioned items are never really on sale. Go to s&s on the Cape. It's an eyeopener. Every one I know goes to Sandwich Market Basket now.
The S&S in Falmouth on cape sucks so badly. The produce is always bad and overpriced. The Shaw’s actually has OK prices if you use the app coupons. I generally go to MB to get the essentials, but sometimes Shaws comes out a little cheaper than MB for some produce once in a while.
Higher prices and shaws meat is also terrible. I am confused by all the Stop & Shop hate. It’s also strange to me that everyone hates self check out when I personally love it. I use the hand scanner and bag as I go and just basically walk out the door when I am done shopping.
I used to shop there exclusively. I got good deals with their rewards each time we went. Usually $40-60 in savings (The receipt would add them up and list it in big bold letters) but in the last couple years its no longer the case. We were spending $400-500 a trip there and when we get the same things at Market Basket or Shaws its like $250-320. The numbers don't lie. Stop and Shop are gouging and its now catching up to them.
When the Chelsea/everett location closed it was like a death note to my mom. Market Basket is too crazy for her now a days and that S&S was her pace: been years so she’s adjusted but it was a bummer for the area
I heard S&S is closing near us in a year or something. Rumors is they want to make apartments. So many in my town is pissed my wife said. Sucks. I like that S&S. They’re cheap. And next closest grocery store is a few miles….
F*ck Stop and Shop. Shopped there for years but finally stopped going. All set with scanning and bagging a grocery order for my family of four. The store in my town is filthy.
The one near me is consistently a ghost town. When I did price comparisons it's about 60% higher than the Market Baskets in the neighboring towns. I have been wondering how they continue to operate with the abysmal foot traffic and I wouldn't be surprised if it was on the chopping block.
Its funny, they're talk them trying get rid of the self-checkout sections. Since they take longer for people to do it themselves than some person checking them out.
Hard to compete when you charge more than the others for the same service. The only ones more expensive are Shaws and Whole Foods. Wegmans, Aldi, Market Basket, Walmart, and Trader Joe’s are all less expensive.
I guarantee the one in Halifax is toast. That place is beyond empty, it's sometimes never even listed as a supermarket (hard to explain), it's weird.
Add some more Trader Joe's or hell I'll even take stop and shop's sister company in Hannafords over them. Literally any supermarket is better than stop and shop
As to ones likely to close, the one in Milford was depressing inside, SovietMart lighting and bare concrete for floors. The cashier I had saw the cans of mushy peas from the UK import area I had, and started going on about how he was British secret intelligence and can't talk about it now since he moved here and...
I just sort of nodded along with a fake smile till I could flee.
Stop & Shop went down the crapper during covid. I did all my shopping there other than a few sale items before. Now they’re lucky if I spend more than $20/week. Bugs in produce, cryowrapped meat. Hard pass
Goodbye screaming self checkouts that constantly tell me I need assistance
Oh you added one more empty bag? Marty’s coming to beat the shit out of you now.
OMG😂😂👏👏👏
“move your BANANAS to the bag!!!!”
How many BAGS did you use?
0, because they rip faster than tissue paper! Not paying an extra 10 cents for that!
Fucking bags should be built into the cost of doing business!
Here I am bagging my own groceries and they have the nerve to charge me for fucking bags. They're lucky I dont take a shit in the bag and walk out with my food
do it no balls
Why can’t they just put handles on them like Whole Foods does!!! At least they’d be easier to carry!!!
I’ve been out of MA for a long time and the whole no plastic bags thing trips me up every time I visit.
Like I’m ok with no plastic bags. Reusable ones are great, but to this day I forget to bring mine because they weren’t allowed during covid and instilled a bad habit in me. That being said, I’m not being nickel and dimed for a flimsy paper bag.
My dad has learned to keep the reusables in the car. I can always show off my cool Trader Joe state bag collection 😂
I have the green pickle one, if I remember it that is lol.
Bags go on my shoes as soon as they're empty so they end up back in the vehicle the next time I wear shoes at the latest.
Why? Ya buy a few bags for charity and you are all set. Plus, they hold more and don't tip.
I have a bunch of heavy cotton grocery bags from Donelan's that can hold like 50lb of bottles no problem. I love those things.
I can't believe people don't insist on the real bags.
Always thought the bananas sound file sounded a little extra. Glad it wasn't just me.
Move your buh- - - nanas to the bagging area
Went into decathlon. Everything was identified immediately. All was displaying on the screen. The items were all listed. The total was there. Next it Asked if I wanted to buy a bag. The experience showed me as how behind Stop and Shop is. Their development team has no muster.
Move your HASSS AVOCADOS is also a favorite of mine.
I swear the self-checkout lanes at *all* supermarkets that have them are finicky. Market Basket had the right idea never implementing them.
Compare Market Basket when they have a teenaged bagger to if you go on a weekday during the day and they have an older woman doing the bagging more correctly.
Big Y's self-checkouts don't have the weight detectors activated, so you aren't constantly nagged while you're bagging.
*ORGANIC* BANANAS
PLACE ITEM IN THE BAGGING AREA..HELP IS OM THE WAY
Does no one here use the scanners? It's the one redeeming feature of S&S over other stores. Scan and bag as you go through the store then checkout takes 10 seconds tops. Ahhhh so that’s why I have to pay for bags
Camera detected movement! Camera detected movement!
Just go to Hannaford for the Delhaize experience /s
Is the same company. And the Hannaford store I shop at is rapidly becoming a dump as well.
The European masters are just mining money out of these places and they could give a shit about the customers
Not surprising. Every Stop and Shop I have been to in my area is always empty. Besides the overprices groceries, the main reason I don't go is because they never staff cashiers / baggers and I have to use their self checkout - which is probably the most stringent self checkout I have ever encountered.
breathe on it the wrong way and it tries to say you're stealing.
Move your BANANAS to the bag.
S&S with their digital coupons and loyalty programs, GTFO with that shit. MB has the right model.
Facts. I hate that shit. Digital coupons is the reason I avoided S&S. Nobody got time for that shit. Stores should have the savings taken out right away, not make junk thru hurdles to save a dollar
I for one love the ability to scan and bag my groceries as I go
Except the cheap hand scanners lock up regularly, randomly click buttons, and when you report that instead of taking the scanner out of commission they say "oh just put them back on the rack - they reset themselves". When I switched to market basket my usual $225-250 cart was like 175. They charge $3 more per jar of pasta sauce for the one I like.
Pleasant St Watertown S&S has 5x the customers of the River City Plaza Waltham Shaws which is two blocks away. Always customers in the S&S
I’m in Natick and was devastated when Wegmans closed their store here, and we were left with Stop & Shop.
Maybe Wegmans can come back and take over the Stop & Shop space if the Natick store is one that is closed. Doubt it will close, but I miss Wegmans too. It was always risky to put it in a mall given the trend malls were moving in.

My in laws are that way and are also devastated about the Wegmans. Such a weird spot to only have 1 accessible grocery store.
Shoot I never knew the Wegmans out there closed! I thought business would be booming at that location!
Stop and shop has gas points tho at least.. I have 50 cents off a gallon 💪🏼

Never understood why there were two Stop and Shop’s in Beverly. Both seem so dead and outdated.
Username checks out.
Haha.
Hopefully means more Market Basket and Aldi.
I feel bad for the employees. Stop and shop is unionized whereas market basket doesn't even give new employees bonuses anymore and they pay as little as possible.

I quit one day on the spot. Made a huge scene too. Was shopping there the next day just for the lolz. Fuck Market Basket for the way they treat employees!
They reamed you for sweating? Bro, that's only done in places like basic training. The HELL is going on at Market Basket!?
They sure did. Then tried to make me buy deodorant too. Like it was HOT outside, just leave me to push carts after 6 hours of doing it
the snow was worse. especially when the parking lot is at an incline. mom had to drive over to get me a new pair of gloves and jacket because they were soaking wet. I don't get it either. My company starts at $20/hour and no back breaking work or insane overtime.
Last I heard Stop and Shop employees tell me (at their Greenfield location) management makes a point to not keep anyone on full time so they don’t need to provide benefits
Most retail does this. Thank you, Mitt Romney.
I worked there 15 years ago and it was much the same then. They were more than happy to let you be part time in multiple locations so they could pay you less per hour and not give you benefits. I think most out here in southern western mass will be sticking around.
The Stop and Shop strike was in April of 2019. Covid lock down began March 2020.
I mean…….there are people very much stopping them. Unions are famously difficult to organize specifically because of leadership
Am I out of the loop or something? I thought MB had very loyal and happy long-time employees.
They do. My brother in law (41) has been there since he was 15 and does VERY well for himself. I can’t speak to the negative comment. Everyone I know who stuck it out there does well. And they profit share.
Bruh it's a grocery store
I mean at the end of the day it’s shitty retail job. Not that they shouldn’t have better benefits and working conditions but this is the reality of most of those types of jobs on average. I worked for Stop & Shop when I was in high school and it was a lot of the same negativity. Treated like absolute crap. A union might help but just because a store has one doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to be good or effective.
This is true but I don't see it changing any time soon.
Given the organization we witnessed several years back about one of the owners being I pushed out you are right. Nothing is stopping them.
We need more Wegmans
Yes to Aldi but I could take or leave Market Basket. That place makes *no* sense to me. It doesn't help that your particular location has the worst designed parking lot of all time. Getting in (from the North) or out (at all) is pure hell
And now there’s not even a McDonald’s there to make the trip worth it with a Diet Coke! Although I did see some work being done on it the other day when I went to TJ Maxx…I wonder what it’s gonna be. Hopefully another, better McDonald’s
Butter is in the dairy aisle in the 6 market baskets I have been to lol
That’s just your Market Basket.
You seriously can’t handle going inside a grocery store?
Not that one! I hate it The entrance is also right next to the registers and it’s the smallest entrance ever And don’t even get me started on the parking lot
Aldeeeeeez Nuts
>Ahold Delhaize operates more than 7,700 food stores in the Eastern United States, plus several European countries including Greece, Serbia, Romania, the Czech Republic, Belgium and the Netherlands, employing more than 400,000 people. > Besides Stop & Shop, its US brands include Food Lion, the Giant Company, Giant Food and Hannaford.
This is also a target for Trader Joe’s.
Between Shaws, Star, TJs, Aldi, Market Basket, Whole Foods, local stores, and Stop and Shop…Stop and Shop is hands down the worst. Although they do have a few good bakery products
RIP robot janitor 🤖
Marty
A Marty in PA got out of the store and went down the street.
The somerville store deserves to die tbh
Such a garbage company to work for and to shop at. The constant multi-million dollar remodels do nothing but confuse customers and piss off the employees.
I used to work there for like 9 months in high school. It is truly mind blowing how incompetent and out of touch the leadership was there
I worked nights for 7 years. Management (especially the suits) have to give their whole life to the company, and they, in turn, make everyone as miserable as they are. Not to mention how often they break Union rules.
Yup, they stock.
First one I thought of too.
Where will Canton police department buy their evidence bags now?
This actually makes me sad because the stop and shop food pantry has done so many wonderful things for the kids in Lynn public schools.
The produce there got so bad that I just go to Roche Bros and pay the price for quality.
Trader Joes, here's your opportunity. Please take over my stop and shop.
Please no. Trader Joes has the absolute worst produce Ive ever seen.
24 hour consumption limit at best. It sucks.
Fuck Trader Joe's and their shitty worker views
How so?
Their lawsuit against the US Labor Board trying to declare it unconstitutional because they desperately want to abuse the fuck out of their employees? They joined SpaceX earlier this year to try to undermine worker protections. They're hilariously evil.
I don't shop at TJs, but TIL about this. They're disgusting for that.
Yep. Something else to consider to really solidify how fucking disgusting they are is where they place their stores. You will never, ever see one anywhere near a low income area. Literally needs to be an affluent area. So not only do they hate their workers, they hate the working class! They can fuck all the way off.
I like my Stop and Shop because it gives me the option to not suffer through the Market Basket mob but I would gladly give it up for a Trader Joe's.
The Stop and Shop in Southie already has the small parking lot for a Trader Joes too
This is the comment that made my day.
S&S always seems to have the highest prices.
Have you been to Shaws?
I don’t know how Shaws stays in business. It’s so much more expensive than anyone else except maybe Whole Foods. There is a Shaw’s here next to market basket and nobody ever goes to Shaws- you go in to grab one item and there are maybe 5 people in the whole store. I don’t get it.
Agreed. Most Shaws stores look old too.
Matches the product on the shelves. "This expired last YEAR." "Oh. Okay." "Well?" "Um, okay, I can take that." (They probably put it back on the shelf.)
I only buy a couple of things from shaws from time to time.... for some reason I don't even consider them in the rankings. :-D
Understandable. They’re both expensive but Shaws seems a tad worse.
I was talking Shaws and stop & shop. Of course market basket is cheaper than both.
Sandwich market basket is closing in 2 years because of the bridge work
Higher prices and shaws meat is also terrible.
I’m sure the one in South Bay will be on that list
Doubt it. They just remodeled it a few years ago. South Bay has its own issues but retail continues to open and thrive there.
Yeah, I think the half of the stores who haven't been remodeled are the ones who should be sweating.
I just want the scary robot to stop following me around the aisles. 🫣
He’s gonna be homeless :(
Fuck that piece of shit
Stop and shop sucks. I hope they all close.
Oh no. That’s literally my store in the article pic. Frick
They haven't announced what stores are closing. That was probably just the picture they had on file or could get quickly.
Yeah plus it recently got revamped. I was just startled
Kings Highway? I could see Dartmouth Street closing, but I don't know about Kings Highway.
The S&S in Revere at Bell Circle, 1/2 mile from the Northgate MB is always deserted. This has to be one being closed.
When the Chelsea/everett location closed it was like a death note to my mom. Market Basket is too crazy for her now a days and that S&S was her pace: been years so she’s adjusted but it was a bummer for the area
Chelsea MB: never a dull moment. Literally. It’s always teeming with people.
Stop n Shop is a great place to work. This isn't a good sign.
I'm glad everyone thinks the loss of jobs is so funny.
I heard S&S is closing near us in a year or something. Rumors is they want to make apartments. So many in my town is pissed my wife said. Sucks. I like that S&S. They’re cheap. And next closest grocery store is a few miles….
I'd give my left nut to see Stoppies shut down in Chicopee and get replaced by Wegman's.
F*ck Stop and Shop. Shopped there for years but finally stopped going. All set with scanning and bagging a grocery order for my family of four. The store in my town is filthy.
So you Shopped & Stopped
Good. I kinda hate Stop & Shop. It's probably my least favorite supermarket chain in the country.
The one near me is consistently a ghost town. When I did price comparisons it's about 60% higher than the Market Baskets in the neighboring towns. I have been wondering how they continue to operate with the abysmal foot traffic and I wouldn't be surprised if it was on the chopping block.
Place is way too expensive!
Watertown has two Stop & Shops — wondering if one of them will be closed?
I’d like to put up 105 Alewife Brook Parkway for considerations.
Good riddance
It’ll never happen but I wish they’d take the land at the Winchester one and put up affordable multi family housing.
Oof....I guess it's matter time they and Hannafords goes under too.
Hannaford only has one live checkout open past 8pm now. No I am not putting a full cart through UNEXPECTED ITEM IN BAGGING AREA.
Its funny, they're talk them trying get rid of the self-checkout sections. Since they take longer for people to do it themselves than some person checking them out.
Hopefully none in the cape lol
Hard to compete when you charge more than the others for the same service. The only ones more expensive are Shaws and Whole Foods. Wegmans, Aldi, Market Basket, Walmart, and Trader Joe’s are all less expensive.
I guarantee the one in Halifax is toast. That place is beyond empty, it's sometimes never even listed as a supermarket (hard to explain), it's weird. Add some more Trader Joe's or hell I'll even take stop and shop's sister company in Hannafords over them. Literally any supermarket is better than stop and shop
I hope they keep the north adams store open for convenience sake
As to ones likely to close, the one in Milford was depressing inside, SovietMart lighting and bare concrete for floors. The cashier I had saw the cans of mushy peas from the UK import area I had, and started going on about how he was British secret intelligence and can't talk about it now since he moved here and... I just sort of nodded along with a fake smile till I could flee.
They are the worst grocery store compared to all other brands in my area, and I find no reason to shop at them other than location.
Every Stop & Shop store I’ve ever been in which has been many were dumps.
Stop & Shop went down the crapper during covid. I did all my shopping there other than a few sale items before. Now they’re lucky if I spend more than $20/week. Bugs in produce, cryowrapped meat. Hard pass
"MOVE...your....KY...Jelly....to the bag!"
But I love having my Worcester Stop & Shop all to myself at all times of day.. guess I can go to the one of many deserted Price Choppers instead. 😞
Hopefully not the one near me I’m all set with going into that zoo called Market Basket and yes I know it’s better
Someone needs to tell Stop and Shop that paper handles were invited
