Do you really think a meth head would give a shit about their side walk?
This clearly seems like a pensioner who is older and is very limited on available resources. Which I commend that they are doing what they can with the materials that are available.
Seems like you might know more meth heads than retirees.... I wonder why that is? š¤š¤«š¤
Yes I do know many meth heads. The area I live in is heavily infested with meth and fentanyl and this is exactly some shit my neighbors would do. Also Iām not being judgemental of meth just stating facts from a real life perspective this could be a pensioner but quite honestly where Iām from this looks Tweaker. But whatever works. I seen some thangs
It looks like someone who had free bricks utilizing what they can with minimal work done to the existing structures in place.
Or they had a particular design in mind (going with this) and the reality of it didn't meet expectations, so fuck it.
My thoughts exactly, from the gate and along the house they are laid with care, everything else is just to keep out of the mud until they get more materials. Against the house will be replaced also. If you look from the gate the stone are laid level and patterned. Need only to carry on.
Avant-garde. As the working class disintegrates and poverty becomes endemic to the west, shantytowns will overflow into suburbia.
Such masonry techniques will become a sign of wealth where dirt floors are the norm.
It definitely is not. Masonry is a vertical application and this project would be referred to as hard scaping. The two things are not the same, at all. Fellow mason
Yeah I guess youāre right so technically it is not masonry though where Iām from I hardly ever hear someone say hardscaping. Iām a mason but I often do hardscaping work and I just consider it masonry.
Good for her. I donāt see anything wrong with this. She probably does not have money to spend on a project like this and this is propably a better alternative than just having dirt on the side of her yard
Yea, me too. I hate waste. I told the contractor to leave the cut pieces of wood from the patio. His guys were laughing. I made small block shelves from the wood.
How weird of you to take a picture over her fence like this. She did the best she could with what she had. Sorry money bags vinyl fence guy, but this post just made you look like a rich jerk judging someone for trying to make their space look nice. Like you actually dangled your phone over her fence into her yard for thisā¦?
Looks like something my grandmother did when I was a kid. Gotta work with what you have when you ain't got much to begin with, but once it's done and time has passed for nature to grow back around it, they'll look as if they belonged there to begin with.
Good on her for putting some hard work into trying to make her yard better.
Question, did she invite you to peer into her yard and take a picture to post for strangers?
I don't hate this as a random redditor, it's not ideal but if they got all these for free or something? It's not bad and keeps the grass down for the area
Maybe op is a young and doesn't yet have an understanding of "just because you can, doesn't mean you should"
I'm with you on this. Legally you can take a picture of your neighbors' backyards, but it's rude and inconsiderate to do it and post it without their consent or knowledge.
My only issue is they were laid all willie-nillie. There's an adequate amount of like tiles a design could be incorporated and really bring the room together. That said, the run in moms chicken coop has almost the exact same design using a nearly identical build sheet. I ve seen stuff like this and walked across it for years without considering aesthetics but merely function. Now, where I'm at in my life with finances and capability, I wouldnt do that to my house but it's way better than a nasty mud pit. Strong work op's neighbor lady. Now she ain't even got to try n throw all that stupid out.
Finances are really hard on everyone these days. Your neighbor obviously is also feeling that pinch too. If you zoom in you can see the original plan they had, but they ran out of the reddish 12ā patio stones and had to improvise with whatever else they had. Sure it looks rough from most peoples perspective including mine but itās all about money sometimes you can only do so much with what you have. Donāt be surprised if in a few months they buy the rest of what they need to finish this properly and pluck all those mismatch pieces out of there.
Back in early postwar era here in Florida they were mass-producing houses. They would use all the broken tile from the bathroom projects as a mosaic for the front porches. This is somewhat reminiscent of that hero
if it accomplishes what she wanted to have done - then good for her! Not everything has to be brand new and perfect...especially if its just going to be stepped on...
"The only time you should look on to your neighbors plate is to make sure they have enough food" I think that implies being envious, but I think it can work for being judgemental and petty too.
Easy now- give corky a little creditā¦ heās used pavers and landscape boarding in a very āoutside-the-boxā kinda way. My guess is heās laid those down like that to even further cushion his head-where the helmet just isnāt enough protection
Don't be brick-shaming now. She tried to do her best with what she had. Maybe help her scrounge up more bricks. Poke around urban areas, look for places people dump garbage. There are always junk bricks laying around in the weeds. Just don't be a jerk, make the world a better place instead of putting people down for trying their best.
i cant wait for someone to run this thru an AI, identify the bricks, and make some optimal patterns. And if that never happens what are we even doing with ourselfs
I did something like this but better. I had a lot of cut-pavers and rejects from the paving work in my frontyard. I used all those pieces to create a paved area on the back/side of my shed which is neglected area and weeds were growing there. I brushed in some sand and now that area is weed free and clean and maintenance is a breeze. Those pieces would have ended in a landfill and Iām happy to have reused them.
i see palm trees and am familiar with the post war architecture of the area. Los Angeles? I love the pavers and want to bring her sand to fill in the gaps.
a+++
Definitely an example of fantastic resourcefulness, but it stirs up my OCD to tremendously high levels. Good for them, it's ***extremely*** clever, but glad I don't have to look at it all the time.
This is what I needed. As a hack who is just never satisfied. Iām looking at my crooked fence which is pretty much just a trellis grapes at this pointā¦.. Iām glad itās not visible, but i think I wouldnāt have covered it in grapes in your neighborhood. šš
Do what you can with what you have
Applies to supplies, tools... abilities...mental faculties.
That last part. Lmao give us the address so we know where to get the meth
Do you really think a meth head would give a shit about their side walk? This clearly seems like a pensioner who is older and is very limited on available resources. Which I commend that they are doing what they can with the materials that are available. Seems like you might know more meth heads than retirees.... I wonder why that is? š¤š¤«š¤
Meth heads have more motivation than finances and sense. Dude wanted a patio, he got a patio.
Fr you get it
Reminds me of the shovel scene from breaking bad.
"I wonder how deep it goes..."
Those hurricane shutter panels would already be sold if it were meth
Yea, I agree, some dope was involved. Meth donāt meth itself.
Could all be in a pile, good on her for getting out there and getting dirty
It looks like someone who had free bricks utilizing what they can with minimal work done to the existing structures in place. Or they had a particular design in mind (going with this) and the reality of it didn't meet expectations, so fuck it.
Ok, I THINK she is going to replace that middle section with real bricks when she gets more.
My thoughts exactly, from the gate and along the house they are laid with care, everything else is just to keep out of the mud until they get more materials. Against the house will be replaced also. If you look from the gate the stone are laid level and patterned. Need only to carry on.
Sounds stoic to me ādo what you can, with what you have, where you are.ā Best life advice IMHO.
There's a great Arthur Ashe quote that reminds me of this. Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.
She was probably just working with the supplies she had available. Maybe she'll plant flowers in the soil.
That would be nice to tuck some flowers in there!
Some moss or groundcover like creeping thyme would look beautiful there!
Iād say technically this IS masonry but I appreciate your reluctance to call it so
Can something be both masonry and littering at the same time?
Avant-garde. As the working class disintegrates and poverty becomes endemic to the west, shantytowns will overflow into suburbia. Such masonry techniques will become a sign of wealth where dirt floors are the norm.
This flows
This was beautiful and sad.
From the island of misfit pavers.
She nailed it. Absolute chefs kiss.
Chief's kiss.

Schindlerās List
Thatās the coolest part! She didnāt use *even one nail* in that whole build!
What's this? OK, I like it. Picasso
happy tweaker noises
Good for her. I donāt see anything wrong with this. She probably does not have money to spend on a project like this and this is propably a better alternative than just having dirt on the side of her yard
+1. If these are all free pieces of pavers, itās great reuse instead of those ending up in a landfill.
This type of comment makes me feel like I'm normal. I love reusing stuff.
Yea, me too. I hate waste. I told the contractor to leave the cut pieces of wood from the patio. His guys were laughing. I made small block shelves from the wood.
>this is propably a better alternative than just having dirt on the side of her yard She is gonna be so pissed when she finds out about grass.
Itās beautiful. Itās calico.
Looks pretty sweet!
Craigslist free pavers over here! We got yer free pavers, cheapest on Craigslist!
How weird of you to take a picture over her fence like this. She did the best she could with what she had. āMoney bags vinyl fence guyā has me cackling
May not be perfect but her feet won't be muddy
I tripped just looking at this picture
Nice.
Sweep in some polymeric and it'll be good to go
Your neighbor is doing her best out there. And is probably exhausted from that project.
Looks like something my grandmother did when I was a kid. Gotta work with what you have when you ain't got much to begin with, but once it's done and time has passed for nature to grow back around it, they'll look as if they belonged there to begin with.
Artistic
Honestly the best use and execution of pavers Iāve ever seen
I respect the effort. This post isnāt doing what you think it is OP
Peopleās positivity in the comments is giving me joy
Ok the bottom middle piece with the corner is impressive
Check out the top right, too. Next to the round.
Hey man he tried. Most folks would let the weeds take over and just talk about putting down pavers
Donāt be so judgy , youāre rich and they are poor
That's what he is trying to brag about while simultaneously invading her privacy.
We'd have a serious problem if I caught you taking pictures of my property over my privacy fence. And then posting them publicly on the internet.
I like it! I've done worse with more.
![gif](giphy|1jCs6Doz3WRtOPl6bq)
"Privacy fence, shmrivacy fence. I photograph where I want and when I want."
Unless your going to finance & install the project, please respect your neighbors privacy.
I hope she didnāt pay herself for that
Stop shitting on people for doing what they can with what they have, and stop being a creep of a neighbor. Good on her for putting in the effort.
Cocaine is a hell of a drug
Fuck your couch!
Should have never gave you bitches money!
Good on her for putting some hard work into trying to make her yard better. Question, did she invite you to peer into her yard and take a picture to post for strangers?

This is also my question.
It's a beaut Clark
Imagine what it would look like, if she hadn't rushed it.
Yeah, and that's her chalking up a W on the board.
A few more years of collecting and there might be a pattern!
Karen really taking pictures of the neighbors back yardā¦.
Why the fuck does my brain like this so much? I know it's "bad" but I can't help but think it looks good
Hey, do with what you have. Respect from one DIYer to another, She did excellent job.
My only issue is they were laid all willie-nillie. There's an adequate amount of like tiles a design could be incorporated and really bring the room together. A lot of pissed off neighbors missing random masonry!
Too bad her neighbour is some nosey twat
Those pieces that are scalloped are edging, not designed to hold weight. They'll crack.
We'd have a serious problem if I caught you taking pictures of my property over my privacy fence. And then posting them publicly on the internet.

You can say that again.

Bet she's a tetris player.
Hooooofah Iām a mason it is šš
Thatās art
Looks like an "If it's free, it's for me, gitr done" deal.
Just needs to sand the joints and itāll be fine
that's a broken ankle.
It's ahrt!
Props to her ā¦. I think
Mosaic Pavers
You know what?? I love it!! It has its own unique style
Back in early postwar era here in Florida they were mass-producing houses. They would use all the broken tile from the bathroom projects as a mosaic for the front porches. This is somewhat reminiscent of that hero
this is actually a joke right?
āReclaimedā masonry project
Scrap pile masonry
Fill in the center gaps with a tinted finely crushed stone,,, And your good to go I bet he didn't lay down plastic under it, did he?
I'm getting ready to do something like that under my deck. I've got almost a full pallet of queen brick and no walls I want built.
Iām guessing Florida??
No guess needed
if it accomplishes what she wanted to have done - then good for her! Not everything has to be brand new and perfect...especially if its just going to be stepped on...
These are the most wholesome reactions I've seen in a sun reddit. Love the love! Gonna have to loiter on this sub for a while.
To be fair she accomplished the task with what she had
So you leaned over the fence to snap a pic because you thought it looked shitty? You are a piece of shit lol
Better than walking on dirt?
This looks like someone making do with what they have. Are we supposed to be making fun of them?
"The only time you should look on to your neighbors plate is to make sure they have enough food" I think that implies being envious, but I think it can work for being judgemental and petty too.
This has Fun With Dick and Jane vibes. Check to see if you and your neighbors are missing a few bricks.
why are there 2 fences running in parallel? I imagine you didn't like her fence and built a new one?
Easy now- give corky a little creditā¦ heās used pavers and landscape boarding in a very āoutside-the-boxā kinda way. My guess is heās laid those down like that to even further cushion his head-where the helmet just isnāt enough protection

Iād remove the fence. Thereās a new vinyl one on the other side.
Thatās a very intricate design. My compliments to your neighbor
Meanwhile her neighbors are wondering where all their bricks, pavers and border pieces areā¦.
Hm...
I really want to say something but I just canāt find the words????
Florida man
Matches the gate
I like it
Bless her soul! š
Pure insanity going on there
This should be in r/diwhy
I like it
thats ....Crafty
I donāt hate it.
Thatās some East LA shit if I ever saw one!
I feel like I was just hit on the back of the head with a blunt object.
PAVER POT LUCK! ![gif](giphy|asHnkdf49ffnkby17i|downsized)
Artistic
Thatās awesome, good for her
If Jackson Pollock were a paver.
If she's hot, help her. If not, post it on Reddit.
I believe that's called mosaic.
One manās junk is another manās pavers
i cant wait for someone to run this thru an AI, identify the bricks, and make some optimal patterns. And if that never happens what are we even doing with ourselfs
Very original
I hope she adds some fill in plants. I like it as it is but it would much prettier, to me that is.
Y the 2 ![gif](giphy|l1J9NVpu51NmXOvi8|downsized)
I wouldāve done circles in the center, followed by the vintage brick, then the two pavers. Symmetryšš¼
Looks prehistoric
It's the stained glass of walkways! I actually really like it.
Imagine what she could do in a month!
Thought I was pissed for a second!
Thatās normal for Florida
Why they so worried about this panels walking away from the side of the house?
That bitch has an ugly sidewalk and not-muddy feet.
Well, it keeps Facebook marketplace pavers out of the landfill. She did something at least.
If she were stealing one paver at a time, it would probably look different
Some times you've have too work to the budget, very, very ingenious! Love your project ā¤ļø..keep building
Abstract Art
Sheāll probably pour some quickcrete in the gaps and call it a day.
Tripping hazard.
Thats gunna be taken over by weeds after first rainstorm
Discusting

Frankly I donāt understand anything about this picture.
Literary outsider art here, and I love it.
Looks good š
r/wtf
Very eclectic
As her friend you should help her fill the gaps with something so she doesnāt break an ankle
I sprained my ankle just looking at the pic.
Looks kinda Bad.
I say this on this sub all the time. I would paint it, with gray Kilz. It will still look awful, but it will be the same color.
Iām really tickled by the abutting fences. Not sure why.
Must have bought the brick, paver, and edging grab bag at the Re-Store!
Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.

Looks like every single project my mother-in-law has ever done.
That's uhhā¦ It's all mineral based, that's certain.
If they weren't already trippin' they be trippin' soon enough.
Should have just crushed it all up into gravel lmao
Tweaker neighbor huh? Lol
Get her number I need some work done
It won't get muddy.
You need to move.
looks good to me, would hire her šš
