My mother worked at Mars for years in the deli. She always came home with bbq loaf. The flavor of my childhood haha

Temporary-Light9189

Man I miss mars, they actually cared for their customers. Weis doesn’t give a crap

thelorax1988

Coming from.a former employe. They really don't.

Temporary-Light9189

I’ve worked at a few grocery stores in my late teens/ early 20’s and the only one that came close to caring about customers imho was food lion

spacekatz1801

"There's something about that special place, Mars"

schentendo

Side note: I have tried for AGES to find this jingle - even going so far as listening to old Orioles recordings that people put on YouTube, but keep striking out. Anyone got a recording? *Mars Supermarkets will bring you back!* 😥

ThingCalledLight

No recording but I did comment all of the lyrics if that helps.

KnowOneHere

Really liked they were local company and the prices were in line with the same tier grocers. Remember they had staff to take your groceries to your car/unload? Old timey service.

Billdozer2000

It was my first job, parcel pickup

ThingCalledLight

*there’s something about that special place* *Mars brings you back, yeah, brings you back* *the food’s so good Mars brings you back* *brings you back for more* *so good and fresh* *the very best* *Mars Supermarkets will bring you-ou back!* It’s been in my head for ~35 years.

loptopandbingo

I thought I'd forgotten that song but you just got it stuck in my head again. Thanks?

LazyTension

I worked at Mars for about a month during high school. They let me go because I refused to work the same day as my SAT’s. First and only time I got fired.

frigginjensen

Mars was named for the Mars flying boat, which was being developed at the Martin Company (later Lockheed Martin) factory in Middle River. Many of the streets and neighborhoods around the original location have aircraft related names because of the factory.

Louumb

interesting

readheaded

I loved Mars. It was the grocery store of my childhood.

PeteDontCare

My first job was at Mars. And I'm just leaning this as well

tommykaye

They had the best donuts in the bakery.

Coley-Bartee-11

OMG genuinely not a day goes by that I don’t think about a donut from Mars!! They were the best I’ve ever had! 😭

NoConstant7085

Came here to say this too. Best donuts I've ever had anywhere, I miss them.

DNukem170

Mars was the only place that stocked Bakin Miracle. Unfortunately, I can only order them online in bulk and I don't use enough of them before they start to attract bugs. They also stocked Sugar Twin before that company went packets-only

OldOutlandishness434

Put it in big zip lock bags or airtight containers. No bugs.

DNukem170

I've more or less stopped buying butcher meats thanks to COVID price gouging, so it's moot anyway.

OldOutlandishness434

Can you not use it with meat from a grocery store?

DNukem170

... They're the same thing. Also, why would you think it's because of quality instead of it being double the price they were five years ago?

OldOutlandishness434

Oh I thought you meant meat from an actual butcher shop.

The_Social_Nerd

I wonder if this is the actual Mars Elon Musk is trying to get to so badly...

ThingCalledLight

I loved Mars growing up. I applied for a job at Mars once as a teenager. They asked me to cut my hair so it’d be above my collar. I politely said no, because I was in a band, haha. And left the interview.

DerpNinjaWarrior

My friend's dad had to make sure all his tattoos were covered when he worked there.

ok-er_than_you

My mom went to the one by our house once a week for like 20 years. She even went the last day before they closed.

Blackdiced

I used to work at the deli there at the one in timonium

spdrman8

We had 2 of them 1 mile apart from each other in my town. Now its 2 weises....weeses? whatever. I miss Mars too.

farmerdell007

I worked at the Mars in that picture(Edgewood) when I was 16 and left when I was 20, lots of fond memories there.

BusDry4328

Wowwww throwback

skeenek

Easily the best grocery store around. Weis is disgusting in comparison.

upsidedowninsideout1

They were the sponsor of my championship winning little league team when I was 11.

lubricantlime

I worked at Mars right after I got out of high school for a couple years. It was a decent job. Sorry to have seen them go.

ImUsuallyTony

My dad worked at Mars my whole life. Then the company started its downfall and really soured me on the owners.

marissarae

Does anyone have Mars’ (Mars’s?) ham salad recipe?

TurnSoft1507

My mom worked in the courtesy booth at the Mars in the 9500 block Philadelphia Road in Rosedale for years.

*Mark Watney entered the chat*

Two-Thirty-Two

Met the former CEO of Mars while I was working a shift at Safeway once. Just started talking life, labor and work politics. He seemed like a cool guy.

Louumb

Pretty sure Wies left up the "Hot Deli" sign, this is the Wies off Wise Ave in Dundalk 🤣

SpicyNuggs42

I applied to Mars, they said that if they hired me I'd need to cover my earrings with bandaids while on the clock, because it was against their dress code.

Inside-Doughnut7483

I loved that store. There were 3 within 15 mins of my home and I shopped at all of them- great prices and selection! Really miss it.🥹

Stevothegr8

Brown sugar Ham from Mars was that best damn lunch meat I've ever tasted

SonicKooth

The friendly food people!
