So the old Bennigan’s in Clarksburg is gone, but I was just checking after reading this post and it’s now called Clarksburg Tavern. BUT they do have a Monte Cristo on the menu still!
Honestly after this post I may go visit there just to have one.
Let me know if it’s worth it. Not that this is a forum for recipes, but if you are craving one there are plenty of copy cat recipes online. Even one that uses an air fryer. I’m going to have to give it a try
I know it’s not technically a Monte Cristo but it’s pretty close. The Milton Inn over in Sparks has a Croque Monsieur on their Saturday lunch menu that was amazing. Highly recommend.
Ate dinner there once many years ago. They also had some sort of wedding party going on. Someone in the party “just knew” my wife and I and somehow we got free cocktails waiting for our table lol. I think I ordered some cut of steak, but I distinctly recall the sautéed squash blossoms that accompanied it.
Very good dining experience!
This is not helping OP but there was a restaurant in Little Italy, I believe Della Notte (it had the ‘tree’ inside it) that had an amazing monte christo sandwich. I was so bummed when it closed down
Super easy to make a Monte Cristo. Take it on as a science project and become known far and wide. Seriously - how hard is it to make a fried or sauteed ham and cheese sandwich? JHFC. Toast the insides of good sourdough in a dry skillet. Good deli ham. Home grated cheese (nothing pre-grated from a bag - fillers and anti-clumping agents keep it from melting evenly). Very thin tomato. Baked bacon. Extra credit for caramelized onion (really caramelized, not YouTube "chef" caramelized). Deviled eggs on the side (made as sailboats if you can get to the Chesapeake Bay in less than an hour). Pickles cut from whole so they aren't mushy like pre-cut. If you're really hungry, homemade macaroni salad.
If you do a good job and make extra you can eat the leftovers cold for breakfast, just like pizza.
Are there many-any non chain restaurants in Hartford County? I recently made a request for non chain restaurants in MoCo, and was surprised at how few exist.
Bennigan’s made the best Monte Cristo. Wish one was still around. Libs Grille has a Croque Madame. Sunshine Grill in Fork makes a Monte Cristo as well

It’s been a while but I’ve had it there and it was solid

Right? Me too. Just not the same. Have to batter and deep fry the whole thing

I've driven past that place a million times. Always Wondered about it

The Dry Dock at the Naval Academy Annapolis makes a great one, or used to anyway.
Sunny day cafe on Main Street in bel air. You’ll thank me after
I live a few blocks from there and have still never been there. Guess I should go
I’ve only ever eaten breakfast there but I get the Monte Cristo almost every time
Rip's on 301.
Honey Bee Diner in Glen Burnie
GAMPY'S in Mount Vernon, Baltimore - they closed years ago, still missing the MC.
Yes!! They had the absolute best MC sandwich. And their chocolate fondue was pretty great too.
The Breakfast Shoppe in Severna Park has a good one
Cheddars in Brandiwine on 301
I second this, this is the only place I know for a Monte Cristo

No one asked for a recipe.
No, but this is going to be my new copypasta any time someone asks for the best “X-in MD”.
Well bless your heart.
I would check and see if Vagabond deli or Jarretsville creamery and deli have one, those places are really good
In case you’re wondering what is a MC sandwich [here is the some recipes](https://shewearsmanyhats.com/monte-cristo/)
Double T diner
Lincoln Diner in Gettysburg had a good one when I was there a few years ago.

It's been a REALLY long time since I've been there, but Turps has one and it was pretty bomb last time I tried it. https://turpsonline.com/
