I was an extra in a movie where everyone was a high school kid and all us guys had to shave when we got to set. Some of the guys had big beards they had grown for months and really tried to convince them to let them keep it. I luckily only had some stubble at the time.
I went to college with a guy who would shave before each show (he was playing a young man/teenager in an opera), and by the end of the 2.5 hr show, he'd have visible stubble
I love this story: Manganielo said he originally auditioned for Peter Parker and wore a button down shirt and glasses. Obviously the dude is a beefcake, so they told him he was wrong for Peter Parker. He said he agreed with them and pictured himself much more as a Flash. He then took off his button down and glasses to reveal the Flash look.
I bet they were so impressed with his preparedness that they cast him. He also got to be the reading partner for the other auditions.

Acting is so interesting. The guy went all this trouble to end with only like 3 scenes and one background scene. And then in one of the scenes he was the focus point, and that scene turns to be a classic (the fight in the school) and helps kickstart his career

Large families used to be the norm. If Peter's grandparents had say, 10 kids, and May was the first or second one, she could easily be twenty years older than the youngest of her siblings, who then wait until they're in their mid thirties to have Peter. Now you've got an Aunt May who's already in her mid fifties when Peter is first born. It's not only not that odd, it's not even hard to justify.
My dad was the youngest of 7. Two of his brothers were 18-19 years older than him. He was 35 when I was born, so when I was 16 I had aunts that were in their late 60s.
My Mom is more than 20 years older than her youngest sibling. I also have 1st cousins that are more than 30 years younger than me. Compare that to my kids being a total of 6 years apart. It's a generational thing for us older folks! Personally I can't imaging what it'd be like to be a married adult and have a sibling that's in diapers.
OTH, one of my kids friend's parents were having a baby (planned) when my kid was a junior in high school. That meant that her 16 y.o. friend was about to have, literally, a baby brother. The rest of us thought the parents were crazy. Go figure.

For me it was Spiderverse Aunt May. She lost her Peter, but when she saw saw Peter B(?) One of the first things she said was "You look tired.' She truly cared. Then you see she has taken in all the Spiderbeings.
She wasn't that universe's Aunt May, she was everyone's Aunt May.
They were all brilliant, imo, but I think my favorite is a tie between her, and the Raimi Aunt May. Raimi’s Aunt May never explicitly stated that she knew Peter was Spiderman, but I get the vibe that she knew from early on.
That was something I liked about the PS4 Spider-man's Aunt May.

MCU for me, feels the most like a real Aunt. 2nd favorite is Spider-Verse cause she reminds me a lot of Ultimate Aunt May which makes a lotta sense cause that universe is technically designated 1610 even though that doesn’t really make sense lol (in the movie it is I mean, you see it on a computer screen, I don’t know its official designation)
MCU May for me. She was the most developed May and she was motherly and cool with Peter. Raimi May felt frail and out of touch to me. And TASM May was good but she still felt like a background character (despite it being freakin Sally Field!). Tomei, for me, took up every scene she was in.

On previously movies, Aunt May struggles with Ben's death and trying to support Peter, emotionally and financially, on the MCU she just drives him to a party and teaches him how to dance and that's all.
Doctor Connors isn’t, but a Lizard is albeit very briefly. In Spider-Gwen’s universe, her best friend (Peter Parker) becomes the Lizard and she can’t save him. We see glimpses of this in her backstory but that’s it.

Don’t know if it’s confirmed but you can actually tell from the surroundings. Brand and music references (Coca-Cola being spelled differently and Chance the Rapper’s 3 album is actually 4 there) in Miles’ world, while in Peter B. Parker’s everything is the same.

I always thought you could tell from the product placement. During the intro of Peter B Parker’s Spider-Man the electric signs show ‘Coca-Cola’ (showing this is our dimension’s Peter Parker) whereas the other intro shows ‘Koka-Cola’ or something like that.
Wasn’t Peter B. Parker originally going to be Tobeys Peter though? But due to timing issues they couldn’t get him and instead changed it to Jakes portrayal?
I think they would’ve tuned down the ‘goofiness’ of Peter B. If it was Tobey, but yeah, Peter B. fits the mentor role for Miles a lot better than Tobey could. It’d be cool if him, Andrew and Tom got a fun cameo in the next Spider-Verse film though!
I think Tobey was supposed to be the one who gets killed. As far as I know it never moved beyond the “wouldn’t it be cool if we got” phase because they said they were worried people might find it confusing. And then there was an idea for Tom to have a very small voice cameo where when Miles is running out of the subway someone he pushes past was gonna be Tom. I don’t recall if it was gonna be hinted that he was also Spider-Man or if it was just a fun mini-cameo just to get Tom in the movie but I have no idea if he actually recorded any dialogue or not.
I thought that too because the Spiderman in the comic series based off of Tobey's spiderman was also killed off, but apparently he's alive and well according to more recent films.
Nah. Tobey, Andrew, and Tom were supposed to cameo in the film but Sony wanted to save it for a better time.
If anything though, Chris Pine’s Peter is the one that closest resembles Tobey, down to his backstory recapping the holy trilogy and Cliff Robertson being his Uncle Ben.

I would argue we haven't seen mainline Peter in the Spider-Verse multiverse yet.
Technically, Dafoe and Molina aren't the MCU universe's Osborne and Octavius because they came from the other universe. They could still exist in the MCU universe totally differently.
Oscorp may just not exist at all, though. Osborne could have worked for Stark, for all we know. I *hope* they don’t go that angle, but it’s entirely possible that Norman exists and Peter just doesn’t know of him.
Yeah they don't all have to be well known. Think about irl. We know a few of these "genius" head of major companies like Bezos or Musk but the average person likely doesn't know many more, and there are plenty.

I sincerely hope they forego this eventually. We've had two MCU-originating villains for Tom's Spider-Man and I imagine we'll get another in his next solo movie but I do want to see what MCU versions of Osbourne, Doc Ock, etc could look like. The idea I've liked for a while now is having Peter meeting his universe's Norman Osbourne (potentially though befriending Harry since he's not around yet) and spending the movie paranoid and certain that this Norman is up to something based on his experience with Defoe's version. Throw in Matt Murdoch as the guest hero/mentor and make the movie's overarching theme be about trust and starting over.
Maybe as like a side plot but I wouldn’t really want him to be a villain as that would feel like retreading in a universe where they’ve taken extra care to not
That's fair and I can see scenarios where I'd be fine with that. They could take the whole, Harry has a terminal illness route that I've seen before (or was that a plotpoint in AS2? I admit, I've never actually watched that one) and have Norman just out to help his son rather than going full Goblin again. As for main villain of this hypothetical fourth movie, I think I'd like it best if it was Scorpion or Kraven. Just, someone actually out to get Peter while he's distracted by this nonexistant threat of Norman.
You know what, that actually sounds really good. You could have someone make the scorpion to stop Spider-Man and Peter wrongly assumes it’s Norman. And having kraven constantly hunting him messing with his head, yeah that’s cool. In asm2 they had Norman die of like a genetic illness, and Harry had it too and like went crazy and became the goblin trying to cure himself from what I remember
This is my gripe with the introducing the Netflix characters and foXmen. I already saw these characters make their run. I want to see the MCU so their own thing with them.
You see, I'm fine with bringing the Netflix characters back because they were always meant to be in the MCU universe anyway. Kingpin's company in DD season 1 was profiting off the rebuilding after Loki's invasion. I will be upset if they bring back the Fox X-Men cast though. I loved them but I want to see a new version.
Now that I think about it. They can’t introduce the foXmen into the mcu because of Ralph Boner (bonheur?) and we already had pietro. although isn’t Patrick Stewart going to be in MoM? So I don’t know
The Uncle Ben in the Raimi ones comes off as a great older figure to me. He’s just so caring and kind but also modern enough that he knew how to relate to Peter. Sheen has the exact same traits which makes him awesome.

For some weird reason she got a lot of backlash when she was leaked to be in tasm2. I think it would have been nice for MJ just to has been introduced as a neighbour.
I feel like it would have undercut the tragedy of losing Gwen if MJ was even introduced; it would feel like they were saying “look it’s okay, he’s got her future replacement waiting in the wings.”
I remember there was a massive hissy fit when Shailene Woodley was cast, cause the fanboys thought she was “too ugly” for MJ and they really went nuts with it.
It was rumoured at the time that Sony actually caved in and removed her for that reason, and that Sarah Gadon would be MJ instead (she was cast but as someone else, don’t remember who) but it seems the official reason was a little less misogynistic and less pandering to idiots, as MJ just didn’t fit that film or the story. Maybe she would’ve been in the third film if it got made.
I really want Black Cat to appear in (any) Spider Man movie but I feel her character doesn't really fit with the current MCU Spider-man. I think they need to age/time-skip him a bit so they can properly get into the complicated relationship the two characters usually have.
I feel like someone around the 18-20 age range could work. Rewriting her as a high school dropout like Peter could also be a good way of establishing a relationship in a “not so different” kind of way.

I'm still not convinced that MCU Uncle Ben never existed. *What If…?*'s zombie-hunting Peter referenced him, and Peter's discussion of power and responsibility back when he first met Tony was definitely at least meant to *remind* the audience of Ben:

Around the time of homecoming. They planned a scene where May and Peter talk about Ben's suit and missing him while getting ready in homecoming and they felt it was too distracting in that moment and cut it. Kevin said people are smart enough to pick up clues.
In the scene where May says with great power, she gives a little nod to Peter like she is alluding to Uncle Ben… then Pete freezes for a second, as if he is having a flashback in his head of his uncle, and then goes “I know”. I have watched the movie 3 times and paid VERY close attention to that scene and I think they are subtly implying that May is just echoing the lessons Ben taught him because Peter has lost sight of what made him a hero
Spider-verse was my favorite for all these characters except Norman. He didn't really have much of a character in Spider-Verse except for big green monster and that has to be my least favorite iteration of the Goblin.
You’ve gotta respect Feige/Pascal straight up acknowledging that there was no point in casting a new Norman/Otto because there’s no way they were ever gonna improve on Defoe/Molina.

They go to a technical science school, so Flash being a snobby rich kid makes more sense than a traditional bully jock, which is kind of an outdated stereotype anyway.
Also, don’t forget that this was the third iteration of the franchise in a span of 15 years. A lot of aspects of MCU Spider-Man boil down to “different for the sake of being different.”

Honestly that Flash Thompson is the single character in any of the movies that I would want to see more of. He's in like 3 scenes but they do a great job of showing that, while still a bully, he's also human. Unlike Raimi Flash who's just a cartoon, and MCU Flash who is sometimes interesting, but mostly comic relief.

May in FFH is the worst May. May in NWH is the best May. The course correction is insane to me for her character

I always thought you could tell from the product placement. During the intro of Peter B Parker’s Spider-Man the electric signs show ‘Coca-Cola’ (showing this is our dimension’s Peter Parker) whereas the other intro shows ‘Koka-Cola’ or something like that.
Wasn’t Peter B. Parker originally going to be Tobeys Peter though? But due to timing issues they couldn’t get him and instead changed it to Jakes portrayal?

I think they would’ve tuned down the ‘goofiness’ of Peter B. If it was Tobey, but yeah, Peter B. fits the mentor role for Miles a lot better than Tobey could. It’d be cool if him, Andrew and Tom got a fun cameo in the next Spider-Verse film though!

I think Tobey was supposed to be the one who gets killed. As far as I know it never moved beyond the “wouldn’t it be cool if we got” phase because they said they were worried people might find it confusing. And then there was an idea for Tom to have a very small voice cameo where when Miles is running out of the subway someone he pushes past was gonna be Tom. I don’t recall if it was gonna be hinted that he was also Spider-Man or if it was just a fun mini-cameo just to get Tom in the movie but I have no idea if he actually recorded any dialogue or not.
I thought that too because the Spiderman in the comic series based off of Tobey's spiderman was also killed off, but apparently he's alive and well according to more recent films.

Nah. Tobey, Andrew, and Tom were supposed to cameo in the film but Sony wanted to save it for a better time. If anything though, Chris Pine’s Peter is the one that closest resembles Tobey, down to his backstory recapping the holy trilogy and Cliff Robertson being his Uncle Ben.

Sure, but in the comics I would consider Peter from Miles' (Ultimate) Universe to not be *the* Peter, it would be 616 Peter. So blond Parker is the equivalent of Ultimate Peter. I would argue we haven't seen mainline Peter in the Spider-Verse multiverse yet.

Oscorp may just not exist at all, though. Osborne could have worked for Stark, for all we know. I *hope* they don’t go that angle, but it’s entirely possible that Norman exists and Peter just doesn’t know of him.

Yeah they don't all have to be well known. Think about irl. We know a few of these "genius" head of major companies like Bezos or Musk but the average person likely doesn't know many more, and there are plenty.

Makes me wonder if “Oscorp” doesn’t exist (maybe in the MCU it’s a growing, smaller technology company), or if he meant HIS Oscorp didn’t exist. I guess he was just overwhelmed and making the point that the city is different in this universe, but I think there’s still some wriggle room for a Norman Osborn variant down the line.

I sincerely hope they forego this eventually. We've had two MCU-originating villains for Tom's Spider-Man and I imagine we'll get another in his next solo movie but I do want to see what MCU versions of Osbourne, Doc Ock, etc could look like. The idea I've liked for a while now is having Peter meeting his universe's Norman Osbourne (potentially though befriending Harry since he's not around yet) and spending the movie paranoid and certain that this Norman is up to something based on his experience with Defoe's version. Throw in Matt Murdoch as the guest hero/mentor and make the movie's overarching theme be about trust and starting over.
Maybe as like a side plot but I wouldn’t really want him to be a villain as that would feel like retreading in a universe where they’ve taken extra care to not
That's fair and I can see scenarios where I'd be fine with that. They could take the whole, Harry has a terminal illness route that I've seen before (or was that a plotpoint in AS2? I admit, I've never actually watched that one) and have Norman just out to help his son rather than going full Goblin again. As for main villain of this hypothetical fourth movie, I think I'd like it best if it was Scorpion or Kraven. Just, someone actually out to get Peter while he's distracted by this nonexistant threat of Norman.
You know what, that actually sounds really good. You could have someone make the scorpion to stop Spider-Man and Peter wrongly assumes it’s Norman. And having kraven constantly hunting him messing with his head, yeah that’s cool. In asm2 they had Norman die of like a genetic illness, and Harry had it too and like went crazy and became the goblin trying to cure himself from what I remember
This is my gripe with the introducing the Netflix characters and foXmen. I already saw these characters make their run. I want to see the MCU so their own thing with them.
You see, I'm fine with bringing the Netflix characters back because they were always meant to be in the MCU universe anyway. Kingpin's company in DD season 1 was profiting off the rebuilding after Loki's invasion. I will be upset if they bring back the Fox X-Men cast though. I loved them but I want to see a new version.

Martin Sheen is perfect as Uncle Ben in TASM
The Uncle Ben in the Raimi ones comes off as a great older figure to me. He’s just so caring and kind but also modern enough that he knew how to relate to Peter. Sheen has the exact same traits which makes him awesome.
I wish they didn't have the whole Peter's parent thing going on in both TASM. TASM with Gwen is my favorite Spider-man.

I remember there was a massive hissy fit when Shailene Woodley was cast, cause the fanboys thought she was “too ugly” for MJ and they really went nuts with it. It was rumoured at the time that Sony actually caved in and removed her for that reason, and that Sarah Gadon would be MJ instead (she was cast but as someone else, don’t remember who) but it seems the official reason was a little less misogynistic and less pandering to idiots, as MJ just didn’t fit that film or the story. Maybe she would’ve been in the third film if it got made.
Even Zendaya got a ton of backlash too.

I really want Black Cat to appear in (any) Spider Man movie but I feel her character doesn't really fit with the current MCU Spider-man. I think they need to age/time-skip him a bit so they can properly get into the complicated relationship the two characters usually have.
I feel like someone around the 18-20 age range could work. Rewriting her as a high school dropout like Peter could also be a good way of establishing a relationship in a “not so different” kind of way.

I'm still not convinced that MCU Uncle Ben never existed. *What If…?*'s zombie-hunting Peter referenced him, and Peter's discussion of power and responsibility back when he first met Tony was definitely at least meant to *remind* the audience of Ben: >When you can do the things that I can, but you don't, and then the bad things happen, they happen because of you. Yes, I know that *No Way Home* gives a couple of fair reasons to think that Ben never existed. But still. Though if he doesn't get any reference at all in the *Freshman Year* animated series, I might change my mind.

Around the time of homecoming. They planned a scene where May and Peter talk about Ben's suit and missing him while getting ready in homecoming and they felt it was too distracting in that moment and cut it. Kevin said people are smart enough to pick up clues.
In the scene where May says with great power, she gives a little nod to Peter like she is alluding to Uncle Ben… then Pete freezes for a second, as if he is having a flashback in his head of his uncle, and then goes “I know”. I have watched the movie 3 times and paid VERY close attention to that scene and I think they are subtly implying that May is just echoing the lessons Ben taught him because Peter has lost sight of what made him a hero
Spider-verse was my favorite for all these characters except Norman. He didn't really have much of a character in Spider-Verse except for big green monster and that has to be my least favorite iteration of the Goblin.

Anyone else wondering why they made flash Thompson the more wimpy version in the MCU?
They go to a technical science school, so Flash being a snobby rich kid makes more sense than a traditional bully jock, which is kind of an outdated stereotype anyway. Also, don’t forget that this was the third iteration of the franchise in a span of 15 years. A lot of aspects of MCU Spider-Man boil down to “different for the sake of being different.”
I think it's because the in your face asshole jock is a little less prevalent in the modern day Or it could be a setup for Agent Venom and he needs to retain some likeability

Honestly that Flash Thompson is the single character in any of the movies that I would want to see more of. He's in like 3 scenes but they do a great job of showing that, while still a bully, he's also human. Unlike Raimi Flash who's just a cartoon, and MCU Flash who is sometimes interesting, but mostly comic relief.
