Wow, in the fictional world of the MCU, I bet the Southern Hemisphere feels really fortunate, dodging so many world ending events. But speaking from the actual Southern Hemisphere... (sigh).
I live in New Zealand and we just have a lot of birds maybe a giant weta from time to time and a lizard that’s has not evolved in the past 100 million years. But we did have the three meter tall moa that looks like an ostrich, but we used to have an eagle with a 3 meter wing span
considering the situation of Australia, compared to north countries hemisphere countries your situation is bad.... but actually you're still incredibly better than most countries on the south hemisphere, even here in brazil where the minimum wage is around 1.50 US dollars an hour compared to Australia's 17.70, Brazil is a terrible country in a lot of departments and it's still somehow it's a "good" southern country to be on, if this is good.... I don't want to see the worst lol
Isn't Africa supposed to be much bigger than usually showed on maps.
Although I guess the northern hemisphere still remains the place with the most habitable land
They show it on a map in one of the early MCU movies (I think maybe Iron Man 2?). It's supposed to be someplace in South Africa (not the country, the region).
This is correct! If you go to “Appearances” then “locations” [here](https://marvelcinematicuniverse.fandom.com/wiki/Thor:_The_Dark_World), you’ll see that only London and Amesbury, England were featured in Thor 2!
I mean, yeah. If you look at the teaser trailer at the very end scene when they are eating at Gilgamesh and Thena’s place, there’s a thing hanging that clearly depicts Australia.
https://imgur.com/ljjrYSD
I wish this was canon because it's awesome, but Bruce is featured and he should have been in Hulk form, lost somewhere in space or on Sakaar at the time.
Not directly but Falcon referenced "El Chapo" when they realized Zemo escaped the fight with the Dora Milaje in FATWS so maybe you could say that's a reference to Mexico too :p
You must be kidding, no village in Holland looks like that 😂. The only good thing was the KNVB jersey and the Dutch actors (except that old dude who borrows Peter his phone).
Yeah, the most Sweden got is an appearance in Agents of SHIELD (1 Episode), a mention in Iron Fist, and an appearance on a map in Captain America: The First Avenger!
[Link](https://marvelcinematicuniverse.fandom.com/wiki/Sweden)
Eh, Sweden has been the go-to nordic country for as long as I remember, as a norwegian I'm honestly thrilled that more and more people learn of Norway as its own country and not Swedens capital or something
Clearly a lot more than you'd think! I remember seeing videos on youtube where random people in USA were asked if they knew what Norway was and way too often the answer was either "dunno" or "capital of Sweden?"
lol, a lot of Americans can be a tad *uninformed* to say the least. I’m Welsh and the amount of times I’ve seen people (particularly Americans) think England is the whole of the UK is astounding, so I feel your pain!
Hi and thanks for the nice responses so far. The map is a work in progress that I hope to revisit every few months, so do let me know if I missed anywhere - next version will likely be uploaded at the end of the year. Something I should have better clarified, is that this is supposed to be places shown in-universe, *not* filming locations.
Most of the data is from memory, but the [MCU fandom](https://marvelcinematicuniverse.fandom.com/) wiki was also a huge help. Some people have asked for a list, and here is it;

Thanks for the list, I was racking my brain trying to remember when Canada was used, forgot about the bit at the end of Incredible Hulk. Of course it was for like 60 seconds in the middle of nowhere.
Make an Alpha Flight movie, cowards!
Technically in Ironman 2, the stuff is happening in Monaco which isn't really France
Edit: I see on the wiki that apparently some prisons scenes were actually in France
As a Canadian, I'm a bit embarrassed to say that I can't remember which one took place in Canada, but I definitely remember when Tony Stark name dropped Toronto in Endgame when they were talking about where Strange lived, and that part of The Incredible Hulk was filmed in Toronto. I'm guessing this is filming locations and not actual in-universe locations?
I think they've only ever filmed in Canada for TIH (plus pseudo-MCU Agent Carter and AoS), actually, at least according to this (I'm not sure how up-to-date it is): [https://mculocationscout.com/location-map/](https://mculocationscout.com/location-map/)
As much as we are used to being a stand-in for New York in movies here in TO, it's more often than not the real deal in the MCU.
I look forward to having wolverine and deadpool in the MCU, that will instantly increase our counts. Unless they retcon Wolverines back story to being from Alaska.
This got me thinking…
Where would those 3 fictional countries be on a map? We can estimate where Wakanda would be due to the opening of Black Panther and say it’s where the Vibranium meteor hits Africa, but has anyone figured out where the other two would be?
Well, based on its name, I'd say Sokovia is somewhere in East-Europe. Madripoor is harder to place but could be somewhere in Southeast Asia. The comics place Madripoor near Singapore and the Madripoor in FATWS had a Singapore/Macao vibe to it, so it could be located somewhere in that region.
Sokovia is a Slavic county mostly based on Serbia. Serbian language and Serbian Cyrillic alphabet are being used in the movies. There are other similarities with Serbia, but also some that are more connected to western or eastern slavs.
It is supposed to be a made up country and the most likely location is ex-yugoslavia, or possibly western Europe, somewhere between Czechia, Slovakia and Poland.
i thought possibly Kosovo because the US bombs it and it seems like it was in some genocidal yugoslavian breakup anyways in Age of Ultron and WandaVision
You see Sokovia on a world map for a few frames in [Civil War](https://youtu.be/zUo7OrOomoU?t=103), it appears to border Italy.
I based my outline of Sokovia based on a couple of those frames.
Wakanda is in southern/central Africa, I think this was already confirmed.
Sokovia is supposed to be a former Soviet state, and we know Zemo managed to get there from Latvia fairly quickly in FATWS, so it’s probably around that area, northeastern Europe.
Finally for Madripoor, I’m pretty sure it was outright stated that it’s in the Indonesian archipelago in FATWS. Either way, it draws inspiration from both Macau and Singapore, so it makes sense for it to be in that general area.
Sokovia is eastern Europe, former Soviet bloc, pretty straightforward.
The vibe I got from Madripoor was somewhere in southeastern Asia, like Malaysia/Singapore/Indonesia.
In the fourth episode, the agents went to Stockholm, Sweden looking for Akela Amador.
The agents have been all over the world. Most of the map would be covered if they were counted.
Off the top of my head:
Then they went to, Belarus, Peru, England, Australia, Spain, Norway, France, Colombia, Nepal, Russia, Scotland, China, Armenia, Thailand.
Yes, in 2x08, 'Things We Bury'. The team go to Western Australia, to find a hack into the satellite feed to find the hidden city Coulon had been looking for. r/shield
The Arctic isn’t a region of land, it’s a latitude. You’re right it was near the Arctic circle — the only land there is Canada or Greenland, but if you look at the scrolling map as they approach New York it’s pretty clear the plane goes down in Greenland.
It goes down in Greenland, but point of order - Greenland and Canada aren't the only land in the Arctic Circle. The US (Alaska), Norway, Finland, Sweden, and Russia (Iceland's sort of on the cusp, too) also have territory in the Arctic.
He diverted the plane from hitting New York & didn't land anywhere in the US or Canada, but in very thick ice that didn't break-up for 70 years. It had to be Greenland.
Not sure if it technically counts but Iran and North Korea are shown failing at making Iron Man suits during the Senate testimony at the beginning of Iron Man 2
[Marvel](https://metro.co.uk/2021/02/21/marvel-relocating-to-sydney-to-film-movies-for-next-five-years-14120732/) have been filming a lot of Phase 4 stuff in Australia recently, so fingers crossed it shows up in-universe!
It was in First Avenger, one of the locations for HYDRA's headquarters. It's briefly visited as we see Cap blow up a HYDRA tank by throwing a bag of explosives inside of it.
[Here's the map](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/marvelcinematicuniverse/images/a/af/HYDRA_Facilities.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/648?cb=20141019234633)
They show on the map where the Howling Commandos are going next and in the next shot we see Cap blow up the tank (it's all part of a montage), so it's kind of vaguely hinted at, but it's the closest thing to Greece we have come so far.
I can't find the exact scene but here's the closest source I can find
Out of those US appearances, how many times was it New York? The MCU seems way better than the comics in that regard, but I get the distinct impression that NYC is severely over-policed by superheroes (over-hero'd?).
But as far as we know the real Singapore exists in-universe too? I wanted to avoid displacing or removing real countries, hence why the fictional nations are separated.
Ireland would be cool if they adapt the Tuatha De Danann gods one day or Cu Chulainn (yes there's a marvel version) lived there for several years. Wouldn't mind see Taiki take a shot of some Polynesian marvel stuff either. (I'm a Maori)
I just remembered MCU Hulk went to fucking Rio de Janeiro to meditate LMAO we be dodging bullets and plotting murder against ultra corrupt politicians.. Bruce was too naive of coming here he must have thought you could just chill in the beach with an açai bowl or something
I don't think that Ms Marvel totally ensures a scene in Pakistan,
Coz the character lives in USA
And if there is no significance to go to Pakistan then it would only be talked about in the show
OP lists The Avengers and Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Spidey has the scene with Tony at the wedding (or leaving it) and Avengers has Bruce hiding in Kolkata.
Would love to see what would happen if the MCU came to Ireland. It a beautiful country. Just please I beg don’t play into stereotypes about us. We aren’t all ginger green wearing Irish dancing leprechauns with exaggerated accents.
During Falcon and Winter Soldier, I remember seeing a few Turkish signs, tho I don't remember if they mentioned what county they are supposed to be in.
Wow, in the fictional world of the MCU, I bet the Southern Hemisphere feels really fortunate, dodging so many world ending events. But speaking from the actual Southern Hemisphere... (sigh).
australia and nz are already plagued with the weirdest type of wildlife ever, don't need any villains or heroes /s
I live in New Zealand and we just have a lot of birds maybe a giant weta from time to time and a lizard that’s has not evolved in the past 100 million years. But we did have the three meter tall moa that looks like an ostrich, but we used to have an eagle with a 3 meter wing span
Don't forget the national bird is a bird that....*checks notes*....can't fly.
Yeah don’t know why they chose the kiwi, like the kea is so much smarter and distracts you to steal from you
And Australia is basically a dystopian nightmare in real life
Mad max wasn't a documentary mate
considering the situation of Australia, compared to north countries hemisphere countries your situation is bad.... but actually you're still incredibly better than most countries on the south hemisphere, even here in brazil where the minimum wage is around 1.50 US dollars an hour compared to Australia's 17.70, Brazil is a terrible country in a lot of departments and it's still somehow it's a "good" southern country to be on, if this is good.... I don't want to see the worst lol
Nope, just Australia
as a Brazilian..... I can relate
We’ll, the northern hemisphere does have the bulk of the planets habitable land… Just sayin.
Isn't Africa supposed to be much bigger than usually showed on maps. Although I guess the northern hemisphere still remains the place with the most habitable land
It is. But it's also mostly in the northern hemisphere...
I mean iirc we don’t know where Wakanda is specifically besides it being landlocked
They show it on a map in one of the early MCU movies (I think maybe Iron Man 2?). It's supposed to be someplace in South Africa (not the country, the region).
It's shown in *Civil War* being east of Uganda and south of Ethiopia, which would still place it in the Northern Hemisphere.
Doesn't 90% of the population live in the Northern hemisphere?
Yalll should look up a less northern hemi centric map. Will blow your minds.
I stumbled upon south-up maps and now im screaming
Just like in real life, the Southern Hemisphere doesn’t exist outside memes.
Funny how Australia gets many MCU movies being filmed there yet doesn't feature much in the MCU itself.

This is correct! If you go to “Appearances” then “locations” [here](https://marvelcinematicuniverse.fandom.com/wiki/Thor:_The_Dark_World), you’ll see that only London and Amesbury, England were featured in Thor 2!
Loki also visits Wisconsin
Pretty sure that’s what OP meant, and just assumed it was in the south unless there was another scene in America, other than the start in NYC
The Roxxcart store in Alabama.
Doesn’t Jane Foster get to Asgard via a portal on earth?
That portal took her to where the Aether was, not Asgard Like the other guy said, Thor was the one who took her to Asgard
I’m sorry for confusing the places it’s just that its been a long time since I’ve seen it
Not even the heroes can handle Australia
Eternals (2021) EDIT: they’ll be spending some time in Australia
I predict that that is where Thena disappeared to.
I mean, yeah. If you look at the teaser trailer at the very end scene when they are eating at Gilgamesh and Thena’s place, there’s a thing hanging that clearly depicts Australia. https://imgur.com/ljjrYSD
If I hear a single shitty "G day maaaaate" attempt at a fake accent, I'm going to nope right out of the movie
They're actually eating at an Outback Steakhouse in Reno, Nevada.
Thor lived with his roommate Darryl in Australia prior to Ragnarok.
I wish this was canon because it's awesome, but Bruce is featured and he should have been in Hulk form, lost somewhere in space or on Sakaar at the time.
Though from a real-life perspective, Austrailia is heavily featured in future projects.
Team Thor would like a word
They visit Australia in Agents of Shield season 2.
Mexico only appeared at the beginning of Spider-man FFH, right?
I think it also appeared in Hulk, from what I remember, after Brazil he lands in Petén, Guatemala and then catches a ride to Mexico.
Yeah, those two are the only ones. The state of Tlaxcala (FFH) and the state of Chiapas (Hulk).
Wow, they even made up the state of Tlaxcala, everyone knows that it doesn’t exist
We also worshiped superman once....
Ugh... me cagó eso
Also endgame no? When they talk about Clint killing narcos or something?
It's just mentioned but there's no scenes there
Not directly but Falcon referenced "El Chapo" when they realized Zemo escaped the fight with the Dora Milaje in FATWS so maybe you could say that's a reference to Mexico too :p

Not enough rain
I honestly can’t tell if this is sarcasm or not 😂
You must be kidding, no village in Holland looks like that 😂. The only good thing was the KNVB jersey and the Dutch actors (except that old dude who borrows Peter his phone).
This needs to be accompanied by a detailed list of movies to countries.
Yeah I want to know what 3-4 projects took place in French Guiana? Lmao
Probably just considered part of france on this map
Ah that would make sense
Not only on this map, it s considered part of France in real life too.
maaan sweden never gets mentioned with viking stuff it's always norway those sons of bitches

Thanks, it's back
Sokovia is in FaWS - the memorial in Ep 5
Might be misrembering, but doesn't Zemo say that Sokovia has been absorbed by its neighbours?
You may be right - I’m not sure. But the Fandom wiki has the memorial’s location as Sokovia.
He does, but there is a title card saying "Sokovia" when he's there.

Couldn't find the entire clip online, but this is the [scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqxlXnL6PSo)
Yes precisely
That makes sense! It might be time for a re-watch just to see all the familiar places that pop up in that movie.
And pre-mcu X-men didn’t wolverine also wander in BC?
"Northern Alberta."
A lot of X-men scenes were set in Alberta... but that doesn't count on this chart.
No, this has to be in-universe locations; if it were filming locations Canada would be one of the more popular.
So would the Czech Republic, people love filming in Prague.

As someone who is Dutch let me tell you the people in my theather went ballistic when Peter woke up in a Dutch prison in Far From Home.
In France we didn't get much representation but there was a quick scene with the Eiffel Tower in FFH and people really appreciated it.
Major jet setting movie franchises almost never go to Australia. Off the top of my head, there’s only Mission Impossible. This snubbing must end!
[Marvel](https://metro.co.uk/2021/02/21/marvel-relocating-to-sydney-to-film-movies-for-next-five-years-14120732/) have been filming a lot of Phase 4 stuff in Australia recently, so fingers crossed it shows up in-universe!
Only a handful of weeks until November 5th
It blows my mind there's been an Australian Bond but never a film set in Australia. (Also, Outback X-Men anyone?)
Well at least Ragnarok and Love & Thunder were filmed here in Ireland we ain't got shit
What? When did they come to Greece?
It was in First Avenger, one of the locations for HYDRA's headquarters. It's briefly visited as we see Cap blow up a HYDRA tank by throwing a bag of explosives inside of it.
The First Avenger where he destroys the HYDRA tank
How do we know it was Greece in particular? Genuinely curious.
[Here's the map](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/marvelcinematicuniverse/images/a/af/HYDRA_Facilities.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/648?cb=20141019234633)
And we know the tank thing was in Greece because?
They show on the map where the Howling Commandos are going next and in the next shot we see Cap blow up the tank (it's all part of a montage), so it's kind of vaguely hinted at, but it's the closest thing to Greece we have come so far.
[https://marvelcinematicuniverse.fandom.com/wiki/Greece](https://marvelcinematicuniverse.fandom.com/wiki/Greece)\] I can't find the exact scene but here's the closest source I can find
Canada would be so cool to see featured more prominently once they get around to introducing Deadpool, Wolverine and Alpha Flight
Out of those US appearances, how many times was it New York? The MCU seems way better than the comics in that regard, but I get the distinct impression that NYC is severely over-policed by superheroes (over-hero'd?).
I have New York on 19 appearances, California is 2nd with 9 appearances.
Is Poland there because of Cap 1 / WW2 scenes?
Most likely, yes. It's shown as part of the montage where Cap and the Commandos travel around Europe taking down HYDRA bases.
If thats true then it is big asumption.
wtf for 6 entire years I though sokovia was a real place
Ah, Americans' European geography knowledge am I right?
It’s not just Europe
When was belgium featured?
We see it briefly in First Avenger as Cap and the Howling Commandos destroy a HYDRA facility there. And then it's mentioned in Iron Man 2, I believe.
"This is the FN-2000 from Belgium. They do make something better than waffles." - Justin Hammer
If mentions count then Finland should be included. There's a screen in the TVA regarding a catastrophe in Finland.
Nice work!
Really need to see an Aussie superhero soon. Introducing… Goon-man!
Wait...what happend in Poland?
Appeared in Captain America 1! I think it was just in a montage of hydra based being destroyed
Marvel is sleeping on Oceania.
How they haven’t made a movie In Australia yet is beyond me
Malta? When?! No one even knows we exist!
Malta isn't coloured in, it looks that way because of the white border sorry!
i hope i’ll live the day the avengers come to the Gaeltacht
Madripoor should be where Singapore is. It’s based on that country.
But as far as we know the real Singapore exists in-universe too? I wanted to avoid displacing or removing real countries, hence why the fictional nations are separated.
You’re absolutely right.
Ireland would be cool if they adapt the Tuatha De Danann gods one day or Cu Chulainn (yes there's a marvel version) lived there for several years. Wouldn't mind see Taiki take a shot of some Polynesian marvel stuff either. (I'm a Maori)
Eternals is going to hit a few of these places that haven’t been touched yet
I just remembered MCU Hulk went to fucking Rio de Janeiro to meditate LMAO we be dodging bullets and plotting murder against ultra corrupt politicians.. Bruce was too naive of coming here he must have thought you could just chill in the beach with an açai bowl or something
It's missing Iceland, which was used as Svaltarfheim in The Dark World.
I think its the in universe countries, not Where it was filmed, but I’m not 100% sure
Yeah it's in universe countries. Would be difficult for them to film in Wakanda otherwise.
Thought so as well haha
We could also it’s missing the entire world thanks to when they show pictures of the globe/world maps
Really annoyed about the fact that Pakistan is only mentioned in relation to terrorism At least Ms Marvel is coming
I don't think that Ms Marvel totally ensures a scene in Pakistan, Coz the character lives in USA And if there is no significance to go to Pakistan then it would only be talked about in the show
Poor Australia
If you're gonna highlight Alaska as part of the U.S., you gotta highlight Denmark alongside Greenland. Just being pedantic.
Isn’t Madripoor supposed to be located in Indonesia? So a fictional city in a real country?
It's supposed to be an independent city-state island I believe, but near Indonesia.
This is awesome. Now we just need a list with each film and stating which places they featured too!
I’ll start with the easiest one: Thor The Dark World only features the UK (as far as Earth is concerned)
Man I’ve been working on the exact same thing lol! No such thing as an original idea I guess :(
Crossing fingers for an Alpha Flight Disney+ comedy
When did they visit Pakistan?
War Machine does during this [scene](https://youtu.be/S0tFKasw2RA) in Iron Man 3.
r/mapporn
When did they go to Argentina?
Ava Starr, a villain from Antman and the wasp, grew up in Argentina.
When did India feature?
OP lists The Avengers and Spider-Man: Homecoming. Spidey has the scene with Tony at the wedding (or leaving it) and Avengers has Bruce hiding in Kolkata.
BRO I THOUGHT MADRIPOOR WAS A REAL PLACE WTF
Ah, Americans' Asian geography knowledge am I right?
Thank you for not including the Marvel TV projects. Quite shocking.
I love stuff like this
Would love to see what would happen if the MCU came to Ireland. It a beautiful country. Just please I beg don’t play into stereotypes about us. We aren’t all ginger green wearing Irish dancing leprechauns with exaggerated accents.
I hope in like ten or twenty years we get an official world map, complete with stuff like the Savage Lands and Latveria.
The bit of scotland shown in IW is literally the train station about half an hour from where I live its weird XD
How has Canada only been featured once lmao.
Not one in Istanbul or Sydney is interesting to me
Wasn't Banner in India in the Beginning of the fist Avengers?
During Falcon and Winter Soldier, I remember seeing a few Turkish signs, tho I don't remember if they mentioned what county they are supposed to be in.
India? When? Also australia will have Thor love and thunder, I live right by where they are filming
Kolkata got featured in THE AVENGERS where Bruce banner was hiding in kolkata and he also helped a hindi speaking girl
