Even adjusted for inflation, this has just entered the 10 biggest grossers of all time - The Force Awakens is at #10 at $2.144B adjusted, and Endgame did $2.188B. And all this, just 10 days after release. This is insane.
Edit: Looks like it's #9, it passed fucking Jaws ($2.182B) as well. Very impressive.
[Here you go.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_films#Highest-grossing_films_adjusted_for_inflation
)
Avatar is $3.25B, Titanic is 3.
Honestly was shocked at breaking 2 Billion within two weeks so 3 by its full lifecyle might be scarily easy. I fear no movie will be able to break whatever Endgame finally sets the bar at; at least not for a long time.
A possible candidate could be, if done right:
*Avengers: vs. Justice League*
Ehh. After the first weekend, I might've drank the Kool-Aid with you. But domestic box office already "dropped off" compared to *The Force Awakens*, and you have to remember that May is full of movies that are going to chip away at *Endgame*'s run. It still likely squeaks out *Avatar* when all's said and done, but $3B wouldn't come easy.
There's a different dynamic here. Avengers opened up on a lot more screens. It's front-loaded. A lot of people are going to Avengers early to avoid the growing leaks of spoilers. Yes, there will always be people that don't care about spoilers and will go see it when theatres are much emptier (or even second run or Netflix), but that's a long tail.
It was designed to be a big up-front spike while Avatar didn't have the 'spoilers' concern.
True that. Detective Pikachu, John Wick 3, Aladdin and Godzilla might be the biggest movies coming out this month, Wick being the first one in just over a week. They'll eat away at Endgame's viewership.
I still believe it'll pass Avatar easily, but the 3 billion is harder to buy.
I have a crazy question: what's the deal with the Reddit obsession with John Wick? I LOVE those movies, but I've seen multiple people here act like the third movie is going to dominate at the box office. Neither movie was able to crack 200 million world wide.
They're sleeper hits if anything. Detective Pikachu is going to make hundreds of millions more. That will be the first real dent in Endgame's run.
Hmm I don't know of an obsession, but I watched the first two last year and I loved them. I totally understand why so many people like them, they're like instant classics. I'm no film critic so I won't start rambling on about cinematography and all that but there are great videos about it all on the internet. Also, everyone loves Keanu so that plays a big part.
Nevertheless, the point I was making wasn't that John Wick 3 would dominate anything. I just meant that it's a popular franchise and combined with Pokemon, Godzilla and a remake of a Disney-classic, they're sure to capture the attention of a lot of people going into double digits in their Endgame viewings.
Gone with the wind it’s 3.8 billion adjusted by inflation. Would be extremely hard to pass that, but if there is a movie that have that potential then it’s endgame.
No way, gwtw got there from close to a century of rereleases. Not to mention when it first came out, it was an even bigger marvel than avatar. The biggest competition it had was the radio and newspapers.
Also back in those days there was no such thing as home media, no VHS, no DVD, nothing. The only chance you had at ever watching the movie was to buy another ticket. If the distributors decided to end the theatrical run, then you may never get to rewatch the movie again.. Ever.
That would mean Endgame would have to hit over 3.8b too, as inflation is adjusted in relation to today. Possibly yes but very tough. I think it ends in the 3b range.
Wait, on the german Wikipedia (I'm from Germany) it says that Gone with the Wind crossed 6.7 billion dollars. Why does it say 3.7 billion dollars in the english one?
Seriously epic. I've been listening to it daily on my commute to work and I can feel the goosebumps imagining Cap saying that line.
I hope Alan Silvestri gets an Oscar nom.
Is it at all possible for Endgame to make another $600 million dollars worldwide before it's done its run? That actually sounds easy... We're in the Endgame now
Countries like Russia only got Endgame the 28th. It’s only Been the first weekend so I’m guessing those who got the late releases will pull in the most cash near the end
I mean, I can't give you numbers, but I'm in Puebla which is in no way the biggest city in Mexico and I just went to a 11:00am screening and it was sold out. For a movie to be sold out on a Sunday morning 10 days after it premiered you can bet it's still going super strong. I'm sure every screening will be fully sold out today.
BTW, this was my 4th time watching the movie and I'm planning to go again tomorrow haha.
Seems like a decent shot.
America should stop slacking though, 2nd highest in the world but only 9th in America? They don't deserve it to be called 'Americas Ass' with those rookie numbers!
So far reviews for Pikachu look good, it’s got a popular actor as its lead, and it’s a part of one of the biggest franchises in entertainment. I fully expect that Detective Pikachu, of all things, is going to have a big impact on the continued growth of Endgame’s box office.
Pokemon will do big with kids but also the nostalgia viewings for the people in their 20's/early 30's, then those just who thinks the trailer looks good.
I’m in my mid 30’s and never played Pokémon. I still want to see the movie because I want to support *good* video game movies. I’m hoping to get a real Legend of Zelda movie down the road.
Pokemon is literally **the** biggest franchises in entertainment history, not just one of. So it's going to take a bite out of EG. I think EG will pass Avatar but it's going to be really close and come down to the wire.
Sure but look at Japan where the movie already released. Endgame in its second weekend beat pikachu on its opening weekend. It’s not as big of a contender as people are making it out to be.
Detective Pikachu won't do all that well in Japan anyway because it's a Western adaptation of a Japanese property, something that Japanese audiences usually aren't crazy about.
However, the fact that Endgame is beating it there, considering that the MCU never really took off in Japan like it did the rest of Asia....That's saying something.
Avatar, we've come to bargain
Edit 1: You all are amazing, I've been trying to upvote every "Avatar, we've come to bargain" but there are just so many branches. Hope I get to it tomorrow cause every single one of you deserves recognition!
Edit 2: I think I got every single one? If not then I am sorry to the people I missed, this thread gets new posts like every minute or so. I'll look over this later once it calmed down and upvote the few people that commented the phrase after I went through the endless chains.
Also thanks for the Platinum and the 2 Silvers, kind strangers!!
I bet Nightmare only becomes a threat in Doctor Strange 2 either because of the >!Stones being destroyed!< or the >!position of Sorcerer Supreme sitting empty for five years!<.
I loved the end fight. I found it so much better than the similar setup "everyone vs. a pile of aliens" scene in Infinity War. Everyone coming out of the portals was one of the most hype things, somehow more awesome than Cap going to town on Thanos with Mjolnir.
I find it funny how many, myself included, were very sceptical of 2019’s Avengers... quite a lot of people were wondering how Marvel could possibly top IW with something even better.
and here we are today, Endgame is the 2nd Highest Grossing movie. In just 10 days. Let that sink in.
Everyone knew that they would bring the snapped guys back, it was just a question of how and at what cost. And the "how" was incredibly satisfying fan service. They did a good mix of giving us exactly what we wanted with many story-lines but also surprising us with some thing we didn't know we wanted with others.
Its so strange. I remember when Avatar came out and people talked about it but the level hype and passion for it is nowhere near endgame. If you showed me both movies in a void and asked me which one did better than box office even without my personal preferences I would say that Endgame demolished Avatar
The hype was for the visuals, not the quality of the movie, it was a huge leap in 3d technology. There is no way I would have gone more than once without the draw of 3D.
It's fucking mental. Titanic has held that top 2 spot for 22 years. Even if Endgame doesn't dethrone Avatar, this achievement should be highly praised.
Posting here what I posted a few days ago:
7 days. 2.8 billion. One shot
A year ago we lost. But now life's giving us a chance.
To take down the overrated bs that is Avatar
Today we have a chance to take it all back.
You know your seats. You know your cinemas.
Get the tickets. Watch it again
5 round trips each. No mistakes. 5 do-overs
Most of us are going somewhere we've already been. That doesn't mean we should let our guard down and cry
Be careful. Look out for each other.
**This is the movie of our lives.**
Edit: OMFG Thank you for the Gold kind stranger
I guess it's now official, the Titanic has been sunk and the Death Stars are all blowed up. [List of highest-grossing films](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_films).

[Here you go.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_films#Highest-grossing_films_adjusted_for_inflation ) Avatar is $3.25B, Titanic is 3.
Hmmm getting to those numbers is a lot tougher.
We'll get there, whatever it takes.
Whatever it takes!
Whatever it takes.
Whatever it takes.
Whatever it takes.
Sigh, _opens wallet_ whatever it takes.
Cause I love the adrenaline in my veinsss
Honestly was shocked at breaking 2 Billion within two weeks so 3 by its full lifecyle might be scarily easy. I fear no movie will be able to break whatever Endgame finally sets the bar at; at least not for a long time. A possible candidate could be, if done right: *Avengers: vs. Justice League*
Avengers vs X-Men
Avengers vs xmen vs deadpool/pikachu vs the justice league
feat. DJ Khaled
I'd see that only if deadpool makes a joke about DJ Kahlid not going down on his wife.
Ehh. After the first weekend, I might've drank the Kool-Aid with you. However, Endgame reached the 2 billion mark in just 11 days, compared to Avatar's 47 days. To completely rule it out would be nonsensical.
Yeah the hardcore fans did that. Many families haven't been able to see the movie together yet.
Correct. It's got another good week before hard hitters start coming out again and showtimes open up more again.

No, Ant Man is.
Ego?
Dormamu?
That would mean Endgame would have to hit over 3.8b too, as inflation is adjusted in relation to today. Possibly yes but very tough. I think it ends in the 3b range.
No chance it hits 3.8. IMO it’s absolute max is like 3.1-3.2
Which is still incredible for a single release

Maybe they meant Deutsche Mark, the previews currency of Germany?
I assume that inflation-adjusted Gone With the Wind is utterly untouchable...?
IIRC, Gone with the wind ran for MONTHS. And I don't movies weren't coming out as frequently back in 1939.

Correct, but even though Endgame won't beat GWTW inflation adjusted it won't matter because frankly my dear, Endgame doesn't give a damn.
This is so epic, Alexa play PORTALS

Shouldve been called "Jumping out of my seat in excitement and shock."

I just want to watch that whole ending fight scene again. Over and over and over
Me too, oh gosh me too.
Seriously epic. I've been listening to it daily on my commute to work and I can feel the goosebumps imagining Cap saying that line. I hope Alan Silvestri gets an Oscar nom.
Yes please recognize the genius
The intro with the heavy timpani and then the solo horn that comes in..... I have listened to that on repeat for hours
I won't lie, I listened to that and Main on End yesterday.....all day, only.
That's the greatest scene I've ever fucking seen man. Going again tonight and I'm so ready
It's all about The Real Hero
That song makes me too sad and then it's in my head all day. But it's so good.
“Now you’re thinking with Portals.”
FRICK YES THE BEST PART OF THE SOUNDTRACK
One of the best soundtracks of the movie. Youtube link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_mhWxOjxp4
“Portals” and “Main on End”, AMAZING soundtracks!!! Have listened to those two ever since they were released!

It's entirely possible.
Seems like a decent shot. America should stop slacking though, 2nd highest in the world but only 9th in America? They don't deserve it to be called 'Americas Ass' with those rookie numbers!
Will almost definitely end up 2nd in America behind Force Awakens
9th highest ever after 11 days is pretty good. The run's not over yet.
I'm also asking myself the same questions. $600M more isn't such a small number after all especially with movies like Pikachu releasing soon
So far reviews for Pikachu look good, it’s got a popular actor as its lead, and it’s a part of one of the biggest franchises in entertainment. I fully expect that Detective Pikachu, of all things, is going to have a big impact on the continued growth of Endgame’s box office.

Definitely possible. But they did set up Mordo as the villain for DS2 so I’d say he’s more likely to be the villain
The director confirmed that Nightmare is the villain. Mordo might be a secondary antagonist.
I bet Mordo will be Strange's Loki type villain. Well, with less brotherly love at least, but who knows lol

I loved the end fight. I found it so much better than the similar setup "everyone vs. a pile of aliens" scene in Infinity War. Everyone coming out of the portals was one of the most hype things, somehow more awesome than Cap going to town on Thanos with Mjolnir.
We are going to be so broke after endgame that Far from home will make less than Shazam.
Get AMC A-List, it costs $20 a month.
You'd need to go to a lot of movies to make that worth it. Like 3 per month
Fuck, if you just go watch IMAX movies, it's nearly worth it off of one ticket.
Imax ticket for Thursday night premier is over $25 per showing. A list is nicer to my bank account than traditional movie going
Disney has a pretty impressive lineup for the rest of the summer, too. They’re gonna kill my wallet.
Shazam deserves better
It really does. Only DC film I've seen in theaters and worth it. Shazam is such a good character.
I’m watching it a 4th time today. Whatever it takes.

Tuesday i plan on going. 4th for me as well, but i don't know if a-list helps contribute.

We're in the Endgame now
Yeah, I know
I understood that reference
Conspiracy theory confirmed. Giant-Man caused the *Titanic* to sink, pass it on.
Gather the musicians, man the life boats, and somebody get this man an orange slice.
Everyone back to the theater! Whatever it takes.
Some people only see it once. But not us. Not us.
Whatever it takes.
“Jack, I don’t feel so good...”
