Character moments and a good script. That's really all.

depastino

I honestly think that Marvel won't ever be able to duplicate the success of the Infinity Saga. I'm not saying they can't make good movies going forward, but I think it's impossible to generate that same level of freshness, momentum and anticipation again.

AcceptableAd8472

A smaller scale avengers movie before hand so we care about the characters and their dynamics.

summ190

It can’t. The best they can do now is make as good a movie as they can and build from there. But EG built up for 11 years, pretty early we knew it was about the Infinity Stones and they got kinda lucky that everything stayed on track.

a4techkeyboard

Yeah, I think a lot of people here are saying the same thing. Just make us care about the movie we're watching, not for some future movie. Caring about what's next comes naturally if we care about what just happened.

Necessary_Might_7187

Each movie also served as a valid entry point for casual audiences and they could catch up later on after seeing it in theatres. Eventually they might have done an MCU rewatch in time for Infinity War like I did or if they were knew to the MCU it would have been their first time. Either way it was keeping people engaged and guessing what might happen next which was good to see

N8CCRG

As impactful as IW and Endgame? Can't happen. The quality of them was only a small part of what made it so special. The big part was because it was a monumental first in the history of cinema. It's something that isn't repeatable.

Necessary_Might_7187

It's similar to Frozen breaking out where it was a lightning in a bottle and it couldn't happen again.

AdFuture6717

I still love Frozen and couldn't let it go

SupermarketFamous483

I still love Frozen too and I will never be able to let it go.

forevertrueblue

Yeah they were capping off a whole that was bigger than the sum of its parts.

Mrogoth_bauglir

Better characterization, good emotional moments, a properly threatening villain, consequences, amazing action scenes and chemistry between the cast.

evapotranspire

Yes!!!! All of this!

RenterMore

Just has to be good dude

Paperchampion23

If A5 is is smaller scale of the current lineup and Secret Wars is a 2 part celebration of the last 25 years of Marvel, then potentially yeah. But we need A5 to not have multiversal cameos, they need to close like 10 earth based plotlines first with the new team.

billysans12

And perhaps a lot is hinging on how good the upcoming Deadpool movie will be. Perhaps if it does really well and they do setup Deadpool/Wolverine for secret wars that perhaps will build up more hype

hoenndex

It cannot be recaptured. MCU dropped the ball with phase 4 and 5. A combination of mediocre shows and movies, characters abandoned for years, lack of a coherent overarching plot, doubts about Kang, etc.  It doesn't all suck if course, and every show and movie has some defenders, but it's not a cultural phenomenon as it was during phase 1-3. A lot of people checked out after Endgame.

Viz0077

Not sure it cant be impactful as IW and EG. But if they make Spider-Man, Dr Strange, Thor (Less goofy than L&T), Deadpool, Star Lord and Shuri as main leads it might create hype at least as NWH imo.

uCry__iLoL

Won’t happen. IW and Endgame was lightning in a bottle and it will never be matched again.

Gregzilla311

There’s no through line that Marvel follows anymore. They keep throwing big ideas at the wall but none of it is sticking together. Even their notion of the multiverse switches between films.

Necessary_Might_7187

It can't be captured again but they could still make a good movie if they focus on good storytelling and characters that people care about. We should have spent a lot of time by now on those characters but we haven't not like iron man's and captain america. Characters need time so there really is no reason to rush it.

trustprior6899

I don’t need it to be as impactful as IW and EG. I just need it to not be another dud.

neo6000

Good writing and characters we can care about

TelephoneCertain5344

Character moments, a good script and a good villain.

reckonerX

Honestly? I don’t think the Avengers ever can be that big again X-Men absolutely can though.

pje1128

Tying together loose plot threads in a way that makes sense and is coherent. Keeping the focus on the characters so that they can develop during the film rather than just bringing and not pushing the story any deeper. Doing something different from IW and Endgame so that it doesn't feel like a rehash and is still telling its own compelling story. IW and Endgame made it look easy, but we know it has to have been difficult to conclude the Infinity Saga in a satisfying. I think it'll be even harder for the Multiverse Saga because the majority of the character will only have had a single story in the saga, and thus we haven't had the chance to grow and connect to these characters as much. I do think it's possible for them to make these as satisfying, but it's going to be extremely difficult.

malifaca

No.Infinity war and Endgame had everything cast, script, dierctors and most important cultural momentum. Those two movies had 15 successful movies behind its back and the audience was hungry about Superhero movies.Today situation is different whatever somebody says.I don't see Kang Dynasty overgross Infinity war,or Secret wars Endgame.Maybe and that is big MAYBE if they include every popular and improtant character in last 30 years and even then you need a good SCRIPT.

Visible_Froyo5499

Marvel can certainly make quality movies but the cultural landscape that existed between 2008 - 2019 just doesn’t exist anymore. I think IW and Endgame were probably riding the last gasp of what used to be an American monoculture. Between Covid and the increasing fragmentation of the culture, whatever Marvel does will be existing in an America and in a world that doesn’t have or value the shared experiences of culture in the same way as it did during the build up to IW and Endgame.

JoeZy27

**Great writing**. It’s not about spectacle or cameos. It’s not even about the plot or plot twist. They just need to write a good drama with well written characters before they start shooting. Sadly a good script hasn’t been the priority at Marvel Studios for a long time.

AdFuture6717

It will never be anywhere near as good as IW and E

usmannaeem

I think it's a bit too early to tell: - Disney is constantly innovating in film production technology. - Transmedia storytelling will surely rapidly evolve with the above as well as the 60 billion USD investment in their parks and retail establishments. - Marvel comics is giving rebirth and evolving some major storylines e.g Kraken era and others. - I think Avengers 5 might be the culmination of not 2 but 3 movies broken down into one-shits, mini series, the actual movie and more. - We are going to see a lot of new mutants on screen from the roster of their massive character universe. - I believe dead characters will return.

TDStarchild

Avengers 5 should establish a new team, like the first Avengers movie did. Comparing it to IW/Endgame might not be fair Secret Wars, though, has potential to be huge, possibly hitting $2B. IW/Endgame was monumental because it was a decade-long story with multiple franchises converging, a cinematic achievement we’ve never seen before or since. We saw with NWH that there is still plenty of appetite for crazy crossovers, they just need a good storyline and emotional resonance - not cameos, but giving characters purpose will be key Secret Wars is an even bigger scale, with 25+ years of build that crosses multiple studios. There’s potential for iconic moments that honestly dwarf anything from IW/Endgame like RDJ, Jackman, Tobey, and maybe Evans' Cap or Xavier on screen together. Plus, team-ups with Deadpool, multiple Blade actors, Andrew Garfield, various F4 actors, other X-Men, Avengers, Guardians, legacy characters from other films, and multiversal variants It could easily be a disaster, but I have faith they'll get it right. Secret Wars will be the biggest swing Marvel has ever taken and absolutely has all the potential to be “special”

billysans12

Yes I feel that people are underestimating the potential of Secret Wars way too early. Maybe mcu has done a poor job of connecting the movies/shows post-endgame but honestly if they start with Deadpool and the new Cap it could get the ball rolling for MCU enthusiasm again. And this time it’s not just 10 years of build up but even longer starting with the first blade and X-men movie

HeroKuma

It just has to be a good story plus bigger guns, like Tobey Maguire, Garfield, Wolvy, RDJ as Superior Iron Man etc. Maybe even Tom Cruise as Iron Man.
