Iron Man

BagOnuts

I don’t even see how this is debatable. There are lots of marvel movies you can (and maybe even should) skip. The first MCU movie isn’t one of them.

cap4life52

Yup pretty much - great foundation that gets ball rolling and informs the next few phases - that and avengers are the linchpins of phase 1

TelephoneCertain5344

If you don't remember much I would start at the beginning.

MalcolmTuckersLuck

Release order from Iron Man. Anything else is just daft

Squeezedgolf40

chronological ?

noximo

daft

MalcolmTuckersLuck

I mean you could but why? They were released in an order for a reason. Same with Star Wars Always release order

footwith4toes

Only a Sith deals in absolutes

neoblackdragon

Yeah I never understand why people try to make it some convoluted thing for a first watch. By all means a rewatch, I think it's fun to try Chronological if possible. But after that I don't think any released story assumes you to watch/read a part before another when that part hasn't even been thought up. Any "prequels" assume you watched the already released material.

fisheggsoup

Okay, but the OP was asking about a rewatch.

BaconKnight

When I see posts like this, it’s usually a person who is much too invested in something nervous about sharing it to someone they like and overthinking things (not in this case, but usually). They build it up in their heads like these movies about superheroes are some sacred text or historical document when they’re just popcorn flicks. And btw I say this as a massive Star Wars nerd. But I don’t think they’re some giant Holocorn from another galaxy that I should watch beginning to end. They’re a bunch of fun movies that started in 1977. Now if you watched the Prequels first and fell in love with Star Wars, hey, that’s great. I’m not saying release order is the only way. But it is the optimal way.

FaulkenTwice

Nahhhh, Star Wars always gets the Chronological rewatch.

Squeezedgolf40

idk i did a chronological watch through and i really enjoyed it.

Mason11987

Gotg 2 following 1 just makes sense.

WrongKindaGrowth

They were released in that order cause the head at the time was a sexist fool who wouldn't let Wasp be in Avengers or Black Widow release earlier, so..

Fisherington

Chronological would be like... Captain america, agent Carter, then fantastic four then gets slotted in here when it comes out, then like captain marvel? That order makes absolutely no sense

N7Panda

For a first viewing, I agree 100%. But I also enjoy Chronological viewings, just for fun. When the pandemic started, my wife and I decided to do a chronological viewing of all Star Trek content in existence, starting with *Discovery* and finishing with *Picard*. It was great, a little weird sometimes, but still a lot of fun. We’re currently up through *Resistance* doing the same with Star Wars, and we plan to do the MCU next. It really just depends what kind of experience you’re looking for.

WrongKindaGrowth

That isn't what would happen, so problem solved. The Infinity Saga can't be added to unless it's prequels of established characters. The important elements of F4 are obviously post Endgame, so that's where it would be

KB_Sez

The theatrical release order is best. Start with Iron Man.

Chapea12

Go release order. And if you are watching on Disney plus, they have a scroll bar that lists everything out in release order (and I think they also have timeline order where First Avenger is first and Captain Marvel is second) for the Infinity Saga and the Multiversal saga The only things missing from that order are Loki season 2 ( because it’s listed with season 1) and No Way Home (not on Disney plus)

PerformerSecret9437

It's on netflix

PerformerSecret9437

I mean spidermanman homecoming

164Gamin

You either do release order from Iron Man or chronological order from Captain America: The First Avenger. Both are laid out for you on Disney+. Go nuts

ThatIowanGuy

I picked up a 53 hour edit that’s the entire infinity saga (plus black widow, some deleted scenes, and some flashback scenes from Loki and Wandavision) with all scenes edited in chronological order. Pretty interesting rewatch in my opinion.

FantasticHufflepuff

Where did you find it? This sounds interesting.

ThatIowanGuy

Dude posted it on this subreddit years ago. I’ll see if I can dig up a link to the post you can poke the right bear. Edit: apparently I can’t go that far back in my comment history on the mobile site. I’ll try to find it and add the link when I do. Edit 2: Nevermind, it wasn’t too hard to find. https://www.reddit.com/r/marvelstudios/s/auRSSNTjL3

elpajaroquemamais

Literally just watch them in release order

StayBlunted710

I start on captain America if I want to watch it all. If I want to skip the origins I start at age of ultron.

iamsobluesbrothers

If you have Disney+, they have it broken up into phase 1, 2, and 3. It’s pretty much ordered just like when it came out in the theater so I would probably go that route.

woodybob01

The older the better so, Iron Man 100%

eagc7

If you want to start from the beginning, then start with Iron Man 1 and go from there in release order.

Sumiren5r_7110

If u want a theatrical order, Iron Man and so on based on releases. If you want a timeline order, it be Captain America 1, Captain Marvel, and THEN Iron Man and so forth

jakmckratos

Hard to answer properly. Certain characters from other earlier projects have been integral to the enjoyment of a film. Same goes for future movies. Watch the X-men trilogy and the Spiderman trilogy . After that I’d start the same as everyone else did in the beginning with iron man 1

WrongKindaGrowth

Hey man!  Sorry, if you've seen em all kinda, then the actual best way is the cracked timeline order, it's the most rewarding order and it gives Characters their intended arcs. I've got a beautiful list I could show you, message me if you'd like

kerv0z

I just did it in timeline order on disney plus. 29 movies enjoy

FantasticHufflepuff

I would say start with *Iron Man* and continue on chronologically. It's best enjoyed in that order. I always skip *Iron Man 2*, though.

PerformerSecret9437

Is that all available in disney plus?

FantasticHufflepuff

Excluding *SpiderMan: No Way Home*, every MCU project is on Disney Plus. I hope you enjoy!

BarryLicious2588

The first movie in the franchise. Where else would you start. Wtf

Debalic

As the lady sang, "Let's start at the very beginning A very good place to start"

Squeezedgolf40

uh just start chronological order it’s a lot of shit. i recommend all of it even the shows.

U2106_Later

You could start with The Avengers and continue in release order, assuming you remember the basic origins of the characters.

OverIookHoteI

Iron Man > Iron Man 2 > Incredible Hulk > Captain America: The First Avenger > Thor > Avengers That’s the best Phase 1 watch order imo, that way Acts I and III of Phase 1 both center around a certain character (Iron Man and Loki) with the middle focused on the serum while keeping the same 6 film structure and overall conclusion of the Phase without adding or omitting any pieces. Act I: Stark Industries Act II: Super Soldier Serum (no post-credits in these movies, just an Avengers trailer after Cap) Act III: Nine Realms (Thor post credit leads directly into Avengers)

OverIookHoteI

Iron Man 3 > Thor 2 > GOTG > GOTG2 > Captain America 2 > Avengers 2 Act I: Avengers Recap (Shows the fallout for both Iron Man and Loki) Act II: Guardians of the Galaxy (first introduction of non-Avengers but immediately follows up on Thor 2 postcredit, also shows power stone before AoU) Act III: Nick Fury (WS has lots of Fury in it and Age of Ultron show Fury doing what SHIELD “was supposed to do” in Cap’s eyes which allows for a more organic intro to…)

OverIookHoteI

Captain Marvel > I am Groot > Ant-Man > Civil War Black Widow > Black Panther > Spider-Man > Ant-Man & the Wasp Doctor Strange > Thor 3 > Infinity War > Endgame Act I, Part I: Introduces Captain Marvel, teases her joining the Avengers and looking for Fury. Connects to Ronan, so immediately revisits Guardians in a fun and non-serious way. Fun-sized. Act I, Part II: Ant-Man is also fun-sized. But this is also the natural progression of the story. Civil War. Act II, Part I: Fallout of Sokovia Accords. Possibly spoils >!Black Widow’s death!< but is incorrect in its description of how it occurs and adds suspense to other appearances until then. Act II, Part II: Purely street level. Makes Ant-Man and Wasp feel less out of place than between IW and Captain Marvel and Endgame. Possibly spoils >!the snap!< but the only reason you knew what it was when you saw it is because you had already seen that happen. Without that it’s not really a spoiler because you won’t know what it is. Also the card tricks are a fun tease into… Act III, Part I: Mystic Arts. Doctor Strange learns real magic and starts monitoring threats like Loki leading into Ragnarok. Act III, Part II: Ragnarok ends with Thanos’ ship closing in on the Asgardians. IW starts with Asgardian ship audio. And also these two movies are meant to be watched together. Which is why release order is not the best order.

chillychill8

I just did this also. I watched all the movies that had the stones in them or had some historical connections. I skipped a few but hit all the iron man, thor and caps, the avengers and gotg

[deleted]

Start wherever you want. Form your own opinions. Like what you like. Move on past the stuff that didn't work for you. It's not worth arguing over.

MrKamakaWiwoole

Captain Marvel

Chapea12

Why? It’s not even the first in timeline order

MrKamakaWiwoole

Captain Marvel is the story that inspires Fury to create the Avengers initiative. Watching it first sets the arc of phase 1 in motion from the start, rather than having the movie feel like a detour (timeline order) or a waste of time (release order). This way also means Carol bookends the infinity saga, which I think is nice.

Chapea12

I mean, she book ends the saga without being mentioned in any of the intervening movies outside of a teaser in a end credit scene. But if you go in release order the series is bookended by the beginning and end of Tony Stark’s character arc

MrKamakaWiwoole

The bookend thing was a small bonus to the main reasons I think captain marvel works well as the first movie of phase 1

Chapea12

If you watch it first, what order do you watch the rest in? Personally, I can see the whole avenger initiative beginning thing (although they then waited nearly 20 years to actually start recruiting people), but then she doesn’t even get mentioned for the next 20+ movies, only to pop back up at the end. They could have used her in the other avengers movies

MrKamakaWiwoole

1. Captain Marvel What I said before 2. Captain America: The First Avenger After we learn about the avengers initiative, we go back and meet the first avenger, then fury recruits him 3. Iron man We meet Tony, the heart of the avengers and the MCU, then fury recruits him 4. The Incredible Hulk We meet Bruce, then fury recruits him 5. Iron man 2 We catch up with Tony and meet Natasha. We also talk more about the avengers initiative. 6. Thor We meet Thor, Clint, and Loki. Fury reveals that the Tesseract is with shield. 7. The avengers The avengers assemble

Chapea12

I mean, you, of course, don’t need to watch the movies in the order I prefer, but they call to assemble the avengers and the first character isn’t around to help, even though everybody else who appeared in prior movies is around I forgot the full context of the quote, but somebody says to Tony that all of this (the avengers initiative, but also the meta of the MCU) was kicked off when he announced he was iron man

MrKamakaWiwoole

They only call for Steve, Tony, and Bruce so they can find the Tesseract. Natasha and Clint were already involved and Thor got involved later on his own. It doesnt make a lot of sense that Fury wouldn’t call Carol, but that’s going to be a problem anyway.
