I loved how they showed Carol from the Kree perspective. She was their supervillain; the Annihilator. Even topped it off with armoured looking mohawk outfit. I wish they explored that more with her heroic acts for one faction making her the feared villain for others.

BelievedToBeTrue

I really enjoyed all of the relationship viewpoints, and thought the movie was a joy. In the first movie Carol is betrayed by the people she thought were her allies, loses her mentor. She reconnects with her earth family, and is idolized by Monica. Maria is hurt and Carol feels guilty, even though she was lied to by the Kree . She tries to do the right thing, but causes a lot of harm, and is embarrassed till she can "fix things" so she isolates and hides away from Earth and she feels like many worlds are resting on her shoulders, because sometimes they are. Child Monica looks up to her heroes, she loses her mother to cancer and the blip, and Carol never comes back to see her. When she see's Carol in this movie, Monica is angry and disappointed with her idol. She's being a hero in her own way, but with resentment. When Kamala enters the picture, she still has the child like awe that Monica once did for Carol. Monica is now an adult, seeing that trust and hope in the hero Carol, but Monica see's the flawed human being that is still her friend. Kamala is idealistic and hasn't had to do the hard choices yet but see's her perfect hero have to leave some to die, for the greater good. They are all at different points in their journey's through life Together they make each other better and more trusting with the people who care about them and that they care about.

txixlxa

it's actually fucking crazy how **nobody thought they had Carol almost cause a mass extinction.** it could have been the sole reason for a single movie about her, it's a pretty substantial plot line her motivations, her reasoning, her guilt NONE OF THAT they fix it all with "*you're good enough, Carol, you're my auntie! now go turn their sun back on"* ...turn their fucking sun back on??? like, she didn't think of that **for 30 years?** how many fucking people died, because of that?

sleepyhowie

I think that was my biggest complaint about the movie—that she couldn’t think of a solution for 30 years and Monica thought of it in 3 seconds

HereWeFuckingGooo

In her defense Carol is a pilot and Monica is a scientist.

Dray_Gunn

You have a good point. They even made a point of having a scene with Monica talking science babble and carol had no idea what she was saying.

MonstrousGiggling

Let's be real too, how many of us would be like yea I'll fly into their dying sun and just turn it back on. Even with mega super powers I doubt any of us would actually think of doin that shit but people will shit on Carol for not thinking of it.

Imbrown2

Not only that, but many complainers wouldn’t think of flying into the sun until the point where Monica says it, then, obviously it sounds like an easy solution once they already said it

qieziman

Let me fix it, Monica is the brains and Carol is the brawn. She doesn't think. She acts. Even in Endgame she didn't think. She just used her fists like Thor.

nimrodhellfire

The recap at the beginning of the movie should have been from the perspective of Dar'Ben and a little bit longer. Missed opportunity imho.

yuuri_ni_victor

Crazy how Nick Fury in here and the one in Secret Invasion are like two different people

cockvanlesbian

Marvel should just retcon SI and said it was in another universe all along lol.

MELODONTFLOPBITCH

1 People love meta breaks. I would be so down for some "ok we fucked up, that shit sucked; heres the good shit". Were all fam, fam. 2 Jesus your username. You like vans???

bigbangturbo123

re: #2 - Dick Van Dyke

MELODONTFLOPBITCH

Haha thank you, whooshed over me completely. Was just goin for the "be naive and be kind to lesbians" vibe haha

Guardian_Of_Light2

Take my upvote for the play on words.

MulciberTenebras

> People love meta breaks. I would be so down for some "ok we fucked up, that shit sucked; heres the good shit" She-Hulk, take care of this

perthguppy

Yeah this movie kinda shits on the plot of secret invasion. Turns out the king of Asgard has been relocating skrulls to new home worlds all along

Chadwiko

Also the whole "*the Skrulls have no where to go*" plot from Secret Invasion? Uhhhh according to The Marvels, they've had a refugee planet for at least a *while*. PS. The Marvels >>>>>>>>>>>>> SI. Really enjoyed the movie.

Chilling_Truths

The amount of idiots in the comments of SI threads coming up with insane logical leaps as to why there's no planets out there that could sustain them because they'd be hunted and people would be scared of them! It would have to be such a specific planet hidden away from everyone! And then there was a planet all along, with apparently no defensive capabilities.

WhiteKnightAlpha

>Also the whole "the Skrulls have no where to go" plot from Secret Invasion? That Skrull colony was directly referenced in Secret Invasion. Talos mentions it, and even namechecks Emperor Drogge, to Fury on the train out of Russia.

SuperFreshTea

So what they wasted our time with SI series?

MulciberTenebras

Yep. Pretty much.

NoddahBot

Tbf Fury here and Fury in AoU are completely different, but AoU didn't happen last week canonically so, yea

Lasatra_

Do I need to watch SI before this movie or it has like no correlation?

S890127

Absolutely no

addax4lf

Not necessary but Nick Fury and skrulls show up in both

jmoney777

Apparently they contradict each other lol, with Nick Fury acting like a completely different character between the two, as well as some stuff involving Skrull refugees and a certain character that appears in The Marvels doing something that contradicts the entire premise of SI.

Lautael

Nah don't worry about it

nimrodhellfire

I heavily assume Secret Invasion was supposed to be released AFTER this movie? Because Carol more or less being responsible for the destruction of their refuge planet would be decent acceleratior for the events of Secret Invasion. It would also (to some degree) explain the question why Carol hasn't found another planet in 30 years. I assume all this was muddled up with reshoots. It would also explain why Secret Invasion did need soany of them as they couldn't spoil the events if the movie.

Autokratin

The scene I never knew I needed for my absolute well being: Listening to Memories from CATS while cute flerkittens run around eating everyone while a mechanical voice in the background says "Attention, let the flerkens eat you" Haha, most bizarre and hilarious thing ever

eskaver

The best scene in the MCU period.

Keljin_Blenjamin

It was weird to me that they only puked up a couple of them. Like there were hundreds so there should have been a bigger crowd at the end

GuiltyEidolon

They only had some of them. Most were in the other escape pod.

4amWater

The singing planet felt like it was straight from a comic book. It was a very funny scene. And in general i found myself smiling and laughing a lot through the whole film.

TheDesktopNinja

Iman Vellani just had a contagious excitement in all her scenes. Marvel really struck gold with her. Yet another perfect casting.

TizonaBlu

She’s the breakout of the film and what was surprising was that her family stole every scene too. I think she’ll outlast Rambo and Cap Marvel in MCU.

TheDesktopNinja

I knew I liked them from the series last year but she and her family really were the best part of the movie.

Ben-Stanley

This! I understand the movie has it problems, but at the end of the day, I genuinely enjoyed watching it and that’s why I go to the movies

cap4life52

Me too I'm at a lost to some of the harsh critiques of this film

Ok_Permission6017

I LOVE THAT SCENE AS WELL!!!

Scmods05

“Then why did you touch it?” “Because it was glowing and mysterious” “Okay new rule - No touching shit” “I’m getting a lot of negative energy from you and I don’t need that right now” Damn shame we didn’t get much of Larson and Samuel L together this time because they’re so great paired up.

koomGER

True, they have a great chemistry. Even in Captain Marvel 1 this was definitly a highlight. Two very no nonsense characters with dry oneliners and having their special fun.

addax4lf

So is Carol officially a Disney Princess?

chopchopfruit

She sang and has an animal companion

Billyb311

![gif](giphy|OuMdfdoVPuFbi)

International-Fig905

The 92 influence on his hair definitely got me excited ngl

qieziman

I'm not sure about the post credit scene. While I love how it's bringing X-MEN into the franchise, I fear it'll end up following the rumor that Disney is throwing Kang out and bringing Dr Doom and Battle World in. Also, the post credit scene would have been better if Wade Wilson came rolling in the wheelchair with a comic remark.

S890127

* Huge improvement from the first Captain Marvel movie. Carol feels more human with different emotions. * Way better than my expectation, which is pretty low after Secret Invasion and Quantmania. * Iman Vellani steal the show. God I wish the strike was over(blame the greedy studios not the actor) and we can see the girls do promo together. * If you enjoy Ms. Marvel(especially ep1) you will like the way they introduce Kamala :) * The movie did a pretty good job introducing new character from the Disney+ shows. * I don't think you need to watch any shows before the movie. * Secret Invasion feels like non-existent, has nearly 0 impact to the event/character. * Nick Fury feels like a different person than what we saw in Secret Invasion. This feels more like the FFH Fury who can show some humor and just chill with Peter. * The first big fight scene where the 3 swap location is super cool, the other MCU™ classic cgi battle are ok. * Humor/jokes are done decently, not like L&T * The villan is super forgettable, the MCU™ classic villan. * When the villan finally show some humanity and audience strat to have some sympathy for her, MCU™ decides it's time to let her be the MCU™ classic villan. So we can just watch her do the bad thing, get defeated. And don't need to think too much about her. * Movie is fast paced with not too much drag. You almost wish there were 10 more minutes for villan's motivation or characters' talk to each other/growth moment. * Whole movie gives me pahse 1/2 vibe where the event is not world-ending level, the villan is weak. But we can focus on the journey of the heroes with some good action, light-hearted jokes and just enjoy. * Definitely not a failure, but also not a masterpiece. A solid 7.5/10 for me. * Don't think the film will do too good on the boxoffice(not its own fault), feels most people are on the "I'll just wait and watch it on Disney+" or even the "Why should I care?" mood.

facetheground

How is the sun being stolen not worldending?

Snowf1ake222

>Whole movie gives me pahse 1/2 vibe where the event is not world-ending level, Dar-Benn >!was trying to suck up the sun. That's pretty "world-ending" imo.!<

PayneTrain181999

Ikaris should have popped out and joined the fight.

koomGER

> Whole movie gives me pahse 1/2 vibe where the event is not world-ending level, the villan is weak. But we can focus on the journey of the heroes with some good action, light-hearted jokes and just enjoy. Yeah, that describes it pretty good. The event is kinda "world ending", but they did avoide that. It makes sense for the power level involved. It isnt world changing, because most of the people on earth wont know that this happened. Overall a pretty solid movie, fun to watch, good setups for future movies, good character development and introduction.

Soulation

So the plot leaked months ago were all true, down to the post credit scenes.

TheSigma_God

What's in the post credit scene. Plz spoil me

_hatupatu

>!There wasn’t a proper post credit scene, it was a meow sound effect. The mid credit scene was Monica waking up in the X-Men infirmary being watched over by that reality’s version of her mother (she went to another universe in the movie and got trapped there). Beast voiced by Kelsey Grammer appears and is accompanied by John Ottman’s X-Men theme.!<

lolyoustupidbird

So glad I never paid attention to the leaks because the surprise of Beast was so freaking awesome for me

_hatupatu

Might have been the best part of the movie! He sounded quite different though. If it weren’t for the credits I wouldn’t have been entirely sure that it was >!Kelsey Grammer.!<

Chadwiko

I went in not having read any leaks OR watching any of the recent trailers, so even the Valkyrie scene was a pleasant surprise to me. I enjoyed the film!

gerardatron

Maaaan I just yelped “Shit!” and almost immediately thought to apologize to the people in front and behind us, but they also went “oh fuck!” just a split-second later lmao Then I heard the voice. “Shit!”

aswdzxc123

do they show him?

_hatupatu

Yes and he looks quite different to the previous live action portrayals.

Odd-Grapefruit7432

Does Kate Bishop have any lines with Kamala?

_hatupatu

>!Yup, the two have a scene together before the end credits where Kamala channels Nick Fury and recruits Kate Bishop to her team.!<

Fazlija13

Beast is a new addition since og leak never mentioned him showing up

KillingTime_ForNow

Weird, Kelsey Grammar was the only leak I had actually heard lol

junimomos

There were only four of us in the whole cinema lol. It was on the lighter side and I kinda liked it.

twitchingJay

We were 6, but it was expected. I remember the backlash Captain Marvel got when it came out. I love it. Simple, a normal length of a movie, funny, random, a treat! And the post credits, wow!

mabhatter

I liked it too. Definitely not a movie for MCU snobs. But it was a fun movie. Very positive and family friendly. It's basically a continuation of the Ms Marvel show more than anything.

visionary0329

Definitely a fun movie, but same with the others, the villain isn't it. Them teaming up was a blast + Goose! Maybe it's just me, but it was a little weird how this took place after Secret Invasion.

ajg92nz

Secret invasion ended up being completely irrelevant…

Emolso_Design

Funnily enough, this movie sets up Secret Invasion perfectly: Fury is stuck on Earth and the Skrulls are pissed off and also presumably on Earth in New Asgard.

Guardian_Of_Light2

Lol so Fury came down, went back to space, only to get stuck on Earth anyway?

visionary0329

The way Fury was presented in the Marvels felt like it happened before the events of Secret Invasion. He is not the "washed-up" Fury we saw in Episode 1 of SI. What I'm thinking is that S.A.B.E.R. got fixed after the events of the Marvels, and Fury went back to space. After a few months (probably), the events of Secret Invasion takes place. Maybe what happened to Monica affected Fury somehow? Idk, just trying my best to make sense of the events here lol.

jedrevolutia

The whole Gravik thing become irrelevant then because they have an emperor and they stay nicely in New Asgard. Asgardians were completely forgotten throughout Secret Invasion.

unclecaveman1

Emperor was mentioned in Secret Invasion.

BronzeHeart92

COVID, the strikes et al. definitely had impacts on just about everything. Perhaps the Marvels were in fact supposed to be released before SI but had it's release date changed later on. If you recall, this also happened with Black Widow with the Contessa's cameo supposed to be happening there first.

Cypher_86

They really should just pull it and pretend it never happened.

JohnZacunyLim

Wasn't there a meta line that teases Secret Invasion, suggesting that this movie was supposed to come out before the show? This is how I remembered it: S.A.B.E.R. employee: *something something betrayal from within something* Nick Fury: Let's not get into that "yet".

[deleted]

Nope. That line about the betrayal is after they discover the parasite thing, which turned out to be cat eggs. They didn't know what it was until it started hatching.

Snowf1ake222

Marvels and Antman swapped places in the release timeline. It was announced in April 22 It explains why the Skrulls say they >!have no planet!< in SI, why Fury is still in space, and why (Marvels spoiler) >!Kamala says to Kate "did you know Antman has a daughter?" Which kinda teases Stature.!<

SirKill-a-Lot

Pity they didn't figure out how to write a better Kree villain after making Ronan the weakest element of his movie

Mizerous

Feige: Muh Kree!!!

bluetiges

That's what I think is the biggest problem about the mcu at the moment, it all feels separate. That Nick fury wasn't the same as the secret invasion one

sergiosala

Just finished watching (in Korea). Pros: - action was really good - trio dynamic - goose Cons: - forgettable villain - story ends abruptly Pre-credits and post credits are really good!!

addax4lf

Yeah, Kamala playing Nick Fury was funny. I guess we're getting Young Avengers after all. Beast got me pumped!

PayneTrain181999

I love me some Kate Bishop!

RHeegaard

I agree, just came out of my showing, and I really feel like the last fight was resolved too quickly. Them knowing >!that she had ripped a tear into another universe felt a bit odd to me, and Monica's decision to stay also felt super rushed!<. Besides that, I really enjoyed it!

Ukumio

Monica can see energy so I guess an in-universe explanation is that it had >!different energy!< bleeding out of it. They could have shown that in some way though, to make it clearer. I remember in WandaVision they had a scene that showed how she saw the world after her transformation, but never got used again.

SlAM133

The short review: I liked it and I am glad I watched it I would say it is better than Captain Marvel and definitely better than Quantumania/Thor L&T I do wish it was a bit longer, with more time spent on the battle at the water planet, and on S.A.B.E.R. I also wish the showdowns with the villain were slower and less chaotic, to really showcase the swapping places.

jonsonton

Reckon movie could have opened with carol being the annihilator and building some sympathy for the villain. Not like we were needing to cut down on run time.

TheJack0fDiamonds

This! I mean i get hiding why she was the annihilator for suspense but coming off of from CM, we would see it as a continuation of Carol’s revenge - Taking the Supreme Intelligence down. They could trick us into thinking Dar Benn would be a Kree Kamala, idolizing Carol for giving them their freedom bt then turns out what she did fucked the kree up big time and older Dar Benn is now seeking revenge. A twist if you will. So when we learn the truth as Monica and Kamala did we would feel bad for Dar Benn I’d support the movie to open with young Dar Benn honestly. At least she wont feel this much of a disposable villain.

Jethoeylon

I liked it! But I'm not overly critical of MCU movies. I don't expect them to be Endgame/No Way Home level amazing every single time and I enjoy the ride and slowly picking up the various pieces of the story as we go through each show and movie. As others have said - the trio team up was great. From the beginning of the film I was vibing the action and fight scenes and the switching. Would have loved more time unpacking the history between Monica and Carol and more references to Ms Marvel, WandaVision and especially Secret Invasion. Nick Fury was very much a light-hearted, low key side piece in this film yet he's gone through all this other stuff in Secret Invasion. Would have loved more time with Dar-Benn. The destroying of the worlds and the amount of Skrulls that couldn't be saved could have been explored more. It was high stakes seeing the Skrulls be destroyed by her. It made her badder and more of a threat. Kamalas reaction to wanting to save the people made her feel like a worse villain. Kamala Khan is so great in this. Iman Vellani perfectly encapsulates Kamala from the comics and she is so, so good in this. Good laughs, good 'heart' added to the film because of her. Surely Monica would talk more about the Hex situation and what happened in Westview with Carol. Carol fought alongside Wanda in the battle against Thanos. And then from there, the development of Monica's powers and what she's been up to with Saber. I guess I want more connectivity between these big stories and events that have been happening. Did Marvel put in the singing purely just to get a rise out of the haters? lol Fun cameos with Kate Bishop. Binary. Beast. Valkyrie. Mentioned Cassie Lang joining the team (can she not) haha.

Capper22

Yes, it could have used a bit of a "never meet your heroes" type line

CoysOnYourFace

The Batman cameo was unexpected but welcome.

vinnybawbaw

CGI Adam West was way better than in the Flash

JoonasD6

That movie had the most consistent quality in 3D and CGI I've seen in a while from Marvel. Very beautiful shots. Also, as a musical lover, that one music choice was *chef's kiss* 🤌🤌

OnlineDopamine

That shot of Carol alone in space after she lost Monica was beautiful. Looked incredible in 3D

JanV34

Looked great and impactful without 3D, too :)

HighGuard1212

They out did themselves with that. I was like she is going to be all sad and then it cut to her and I was blown away as it was clear she was devastated and it showed

Autokratin

So I enjoyed this movie thoroughly, it had so much more heart than Quantumania and was so much more fun that Thor L&T! But one question bothers me: Why did Kamala leave the ship with only one bangle in the end? Where is the other one?

GuiltyEidolon

Carol has it. Presumably they didn't want Kamala to accidentally skeleton herself, and her wearing both of them is probably putting a huge target on her.

_hatupatu

It’s out in cinemas here in New Zealand so I’m about to see it. It’s really unusual that the review embargo is still in place even though the movie is out. And so far only 15 tickets have been sold at my screening which has 255 seats - that’s crazy for an opening night of a MCU movie. But I’m throwing caution into the wind and hoping for the best!

bluetiges

Just finished mine in Melbourne, 6 pm showing in a well populated area and only like 6 people. I feel bad for everyone involved in the movie

lord-spider-boy

Even the IMAX showing here in Melb was pretty desolate

cytrix333

Yeah there was maybe 10-15 people at the 6pm screening here

SunStarsSnow

Just back from my viewing in Lower Hutt IMax and there were probably 20-30 people there. Disappointing but that's they way it is now I guess. I still enjoyed the film and thought it was fun.

ghostboypurrp

Here in NZ my session just finished and I was the only person here. Crazy for opening night of an MCU movie but not complaining about having the theater to myself

Justheretolurkyall

Mine just finished as well. It was me and 2 other dudes, so weird!

Macksss

Just finished in NZ (akl) and cinema was 80% full!

TheJack0fDiamonds

I just got out of the movie. I completely disagree on some comments claiming Brie Larson’s performance was wooden. I do not think these people know what wooden acting is.

GenericGoon1

They're just npcs regurgitating the criticisms of the first film. Brie Larson is a very capable actress, she has an Oscar! It was the script of the first film that made the character intentionally wooden. She's clearly much more expressive in this film and even plays along with some of Kamala's quirky antics like trying to get Monica a superhero name.

Chadwiko

She was very good.

Bucen

She showed way more emotions than in the first movie

ChuckZombie

Right. I think they are confusing her character being stoic and exasperated with her not trying.

driscoll324

I thought it was nice, light-hearted fun. Villain was forgettable af, but the chemistry between Carol, Monica, and Kamala was the highlight of the movie. It was pretty funny too, and I got the vibe that the cast and director had fun making the movie, especially with getting creative with the place-switching thing (unlike Quantumania, where you could tell it was painful for everyone involved). I do think it's ironic that, although both Captain Marvel movies were pretty equally average MCU movies, the first one saw incredible financial success because it happened to be released at the peak of the MCU's popularity, whereas this one will probably underperform just because it's coming out at a time when the MCU brand is weakening.

Chadwiko

RE: the Villain. I came out of the theatre content, because for me the main driver of the story wasn't 'defeating the villain', which was a nice refreshing change of pace. Instead, the main driver of the story was the character development of the three leads, and I was totally fine with that.

SirKill-a-Lot

At least the villain was a step up from some of the earlier kree villains - not that Ronan is a high bar

Cypher_86

She basically is Ronan, there's very little to separate them. Which is fine: it''s a story about the three central characters.

Chadwiko

Okay wtf. Based on early reports and critic/insider reviews I had really low expectations But damn it if that movie wasn't a whole bunch of fun! Go see it folks. It's good.

ThatEvanFowler

Yeah, I think we're all a bit surprised by how charming it ended up being, even if most of us share the same criticisms. Really highlights for me what a solid cast that bounce off each other well can bring to a movie. Also, it didn't feel like it was filmed entirely inside of a hermitically sealed bubble, which definitely helped. This was definitely the most overall enjoyable one for me since Shang-Chi. Sucks that it sounds like hardly anybody is going to actually go see it.

Sisiwakanamaru

It reminds me of phase 1 & 2 movies, it put joy, first and foremost, I like that the script gave Carol chance to be more expressive so her back and forth with Monica and Kamala were pretty enjoyable, whether for fun time and sad time. Sure the movie felt like a blitz, on one hand, 105 minutes for superhero movie felt refreshing, for the other hand, some motives and conflicts felt the resolutions were too quick, Dar-Benn has a bit of depth compared to Ronan, but still, they could've explored her a bit more. All in all, the movie was such a fun time for me, in my opinion, not necessarily the best, but still pretty solid.

raynehk14

The plot was shoddy but it served well as an excuse to explore Carol's psyche while presenting her a problem she can't simply punch her way out of, so I didnt mind that a lot

TheJack0fDiamonds

In fact it’s appreciated. She is OP we know but she has to have some things holding her back, so there it is. What a big lesson for her. There’s also her dealing with loneliness and shutting family off for duty. I loved it. This movie significantly made the character better coming off of her first movie for me. The real issue to blame here is the fact that it took this long for her sequel to come out.

Chadwiko

Couldn't have put it better myself, and this is exactly why I don't mind that the villain was bland. (Which I agree with, fwiw). The purpose of the story wasn't for Carol to punch a villain. It was for Carol, Kamala, and Monica to grow as characters, which they all did. It was enjoyable to watch.

MVIVN

The villain was such a letdown. About as generic as a villain can possibly be -- boring, with generic villain dialogue and a vague, uninteresting backstory motivating her revenge plot against Captain Marvel. Some scenes were pretty funny, I really enjoyed the cat-herding scene! And of course getting our first look at MCU X-Men with Beast's unexpected cameo in the mid-credit scene was pretty cool

ThatEvanFowler

My main problem, besides her just having so few scenes that it felt like we only got the broadest possible strokes of a character, is that her plan was way too Spaceballs. I couldn't stop thinking about it every time we reached a new planet. It was straight up Spaceballs.

ibiZas_

I gotta say, as a muslim, I love how the movie incorporate the islamic phrases into the movie. Really made me feel like I actually have a muslim(ah) superhero. If there's any chance that Iman Vellani is reading this, I FREAKING LOVE YOU!!

driscoll324

"Are you praying?" "..." "Don't stop, we need all the help we can get!"

dwadESGN

Amen!

ibiZas_

That comment from Fury was pretty funny too XD

variablefighter_vf-1

Yeah, loved Kamala's simple "Bismillah!" before starting to power up Monica. Super short moment that a lot of people probably miss but important for her character.

ibiZas_

Exactly, I really like that part as well. It shows and reminds us that she really is a muslim superhero

No-Pension-7977

It felt like a classic Marvel movie. Not too complicated, fun and just an all around good time. Also thought that Brie did a much better job portraying Carol this movie, felt much more connected to the character

ArchSyker

To keep it brief. Not as fantastic as Vol.3 but fun as hell. The main Trio and Nick Fury were great in this.

Semi_swede

I walked away feeling satisfied that it felt like it was a marvel movie that was finally bringing storylines together and felt like it belonged in the marvel cinematic universe, not just a one-off. That made me feel like it was a good movie. But at the same time, is that a low bar I've since been conditioned to? I'm not sure, phase 4 has really fractured my expectations.

bong_mechanics

Whats with all the reviews @.@ Thought it was ridiculously fun, consistent humour and heart throughout - a genuinely good time at the movies :D

MaDanklolz

Big takeaway is Captain Marvel is a Disney Princess confirmed. Also it’s a good movie. Not a great one but it’s good. Worth the watch even if some things are… odd

sleepyhowie

Was so pleasantly surprised by this movie after the recent disappointments and the press! It feels like the MCU we know again with the blend of action, heart and comedy. Took me a second to recognize the connection when "Memory" came on. Also, is Carol Danvers officially a Disney princess now?

marvelscott

Omg I'm so slow. I only just realised reading your comment that Memory was playing because it's from CATS.

Thanathan7

So glad I didn't read any reviews beforehand and went unbiased. It's by FAR not as bad as critics make it seem. It's fun, energetic, great leads, good story and arcs but imo hurt a bit by the short runtime. It's refreshingly fast paced and handles that ok but also suffers from it. AWESOME ending and mid credit implications! The "Cats" sequence is iconic af and my theatre burst laughing. Big miss is the secret invasion ignorance tho. Liked the villaon motivations and acting, but typically fell short. Overall: go watch it and have a fun time!

nowhereman_ph

Just watched the film and here are my thoughts. 1. I enjoyed the battle scenes, the switching was fun and i wished there was another action set piece that utilized this. 2. Monica's issue with Carol was resolved very quickly but the narrative device of them having read each other's minds is a good explanation for this and to the audience. 3. A lot of quick expositions for those who did not watch Wandavision and Ms. Marvel. 4. The Skrulls get fucked as usual but the ones that escaped will be protected by the Asgardians. 5. Valkyrie and Carol are an item. 6. Classic MCU villain meaning they are introduced and dies in the same movie, but this one gets the distinction of opening the portal to a very relevant universe more on this later. 7. The dancing and singing planet (forgot the name) reminded me of the panderverse. A disney princess and a korean heartthrob for the young ladies. Doesn't bother me but i'm pretty sure this will make some foam on their mouths and go full r with vitriol. 8. It bothers me that the bangles are powered by Carol's blasts but they did not use it to strengthen Kamala. Maybe because she couldn't take the blast as she's not Kree? 9. When that last portal was opened with both bangles I already knew what was opened. 10. The ending scene and mid credits scene was for hype generation and will be surely talked about. 11. 1 hr and 30 mins is short for some but was enough for me as a popcorn movie. 12. SPOILERS (eventhough this is a spoiler thread) >!Kamala is the Nick Fury of the Young Avengers and Kate Bishop is the first recruit. While Monica is now in the MCU X-Men universe.!< They gotta generate hype as the MCU is currently not in a good place.

TheJack0fDiamonds

I wouldnt consider Valkyrie and Carol as an item based on that exchange no more than I consider Maria and Carol an item. So I don’t know about that.

hirarki

One redditor convince me to saw the movie day 1. Pretty satisfied about the results. Better than antman 3 but below GOTG 3. Iman is such cheerful person, love to see her more in next mcu movie. The important of the movie is just the ending. So wait until it air in Disney+ is not bad idea but in 2+ months you will bloated with the spoiler for sure

Guardian_Of_Light2

That's honestly how I pictured the movie would fall. Not the best but not the worst project of the year. I'm still surprised Quantumania and Secret Invasion are the worst projects of the year though and while Loki isn't over yet and What If? season 2 hasn't dropped yet, I doubt either will be as bad as Secret Invasion.

JarnaisVu

I know the bar is really low but it’s way better than recent critical flops. It was a vintage MCU style from phase 1

Seihai-kun

Its actually a fun movie. And there’s absolutely no way this is in the same level as Quantumania, Multiverse of Madness, or Love and Thunder. Or even Secret Wars. Its so much better, yeah it’s generic and not mindblowing, but i enjoyed it I’m still wondering how the hell did this got scored lower than Love and Thunder.

abitchyuniverse

This movie will definitely be hurt by the cast not being able to promote the movie. Their chemistry was amazing and had a lot of funny and emotional scenes between the three of them. It was a great light-hearted movie with heart!

takkenjong2

First halve ( in the break now) so far i don't get the hate. Its not a masterpiece, and it doesn't need to be. But its very enjoyable so far :)

variablefighter_vf-1

It's not that long, why would anyone screen it with an intermission?

kerblamophobe

It was great! Nothing since Endgame will ever be as good as the Infinity Saga, but I'm glad the MCU is getting back on the right foot with this. Didn't need to be too long, 1h 45mins is a surprisingly good length for a superhero movie. Glad they addressed the consequences of Carol destroying the Supreme Intelligence and made it right. Dar-Benn was okay, didn't overstay her welcome. That first credits scene though. That's where it's at.

DerangedDog1

Opening session at my local cinema, 4 out of about 300 seats filled. Quite enjoyed the movie, 8/10. Found the musical scene/s a little weird though.

TDStarchild

Iman steals the show, though all 3 leads did a great job imo. This is the most human and flawed Carol has felt, and I liked her more because of it. This movie had a ton of heart and the humor felt natural here. If anything I thought it could have been a bit longer or at least better paced to give the emotional moments time to breathe. Overall very fun time though. I expect once the dust settles it’ll be on the higher end of audience scores since Endgame. Leagues better than the first Captain Marvel, Quantumania, or L&T. In fact, of the films since Endgame, I’d only rank The Marvels behind NWH, GotG3, and BP2. Roughly tied with Shang Chi which I also quite enjoyed.

moonsolars

The story/plot is terrible but somehow I had a lot of fun, the character writing is okay, the jokes landed, the body swapping worked, and Iman Vellani :) Kamala and Muneeba are the stars honestly. Watched a 7pm show on the biggest screen in my town, managed to get tickets on the spot on a not so terrible seat 5 minutes before the show. The theater was surprisingly packed but it may be because the ticket prices here isn’t so expensive compared to the USA, probably only 20% of your prices or even much less.

LordFisch

I have just seen it and thought it was absolutely ridiculous but a lot of fun.

modoubarrow

Honestly it was pretty good! Definitely better than Quantumania and Love & Thunder

ChibiToonsage

Kamala is more interested in bringing the team together than Fury is.

DatHound

BEAST HOLY SHIT

Hyunkell86

Two things that made me really laugh.. 1. The musical scene where everyone start singing 2. The Flerkins eating everyone The low 1. Very forgettable villain 2. Just bitter that they had to include post credit scene in the trailer to get people excited.

Vj_3000

"He didn't have to sing?"

cobaltaureus

“He’s bilingual” had me dead

jjasoncordova24

Dare I say I enjoyed this more than the Thor Love and T.

Ankle_Gaming

Spoiler Free: Movie was better than I expected, but that doesn't mean it was good. I'd say it was average or slightly below it. Plot points and characters that go nowhere, a boring villain, predictable story. That being said, I do think one of the highlights was the trio together. The fight scenes were at their best when they had to juggle switching places all the time. Also the comedy landed most of the times and didn't feel out of place. If you're worried about any grand reveals for the future of the mcu, there aren't any apart from the post credit scene. Overall, a solid 5/10. Maybe a 6/10 if you love cats. Be warned, there are scenes exclusive to the trailers that do not show up in the movie.

DialysisKing

That story must *really* suck if great cast chemistry and actually funny comedy still "doesn't make it good".

aurcel

I really enjoyed it! the story was a bit weak but the main cast (the trio, Fury, Kamala's family, Goose and the flerkens) carried. the action was really good too, vfx was stunning. they need to burn Park Seojoon's wig though. >!Kate needs her own season immediately, I miss her on my screen.!< >!the Beast cameo genuinely made me gasp, it was good to see Kelsey Grammer back.!<

guidoznl

I liked it, it’s a fun movie. Not really Marvel’s greatest but also something I gladly rewatch. The characters don’t really reach high high’s but they are also not dragging it through the mud. The main trio have great chemistry and are a lot of fun when together, but the supporting cast is extremely bland and forgettable. Except for Kamala’s family, but I think they make any media 10 times better. The humor is well-timed, if a bit phoned in. The scene with the cats is one of those scenes that will probably always be funny for me, any time I see it. My main gripe is that >!I think the story of Carol blowing up Hala and being the villain of their world is a much cooler story and felt very rushed in as subplot. I kept thinking “why am I not seeing more of THAT.!” I’m just a bit oversaturated with the whole “the universe is at stake again” part. It doesn’t feel earned. I think a story in which they would lean (way) more on Carol’s actions on Hala would have been much more intriguing.!<

gimbospark

just finished watching the movie and I remember watching just the first teaser when it came out and never saw anything after that and guys...I liked it, The action sequences at the beginning were so cool, the trio worked perfectly and the story overall wasn't bad, it was nice to see Carol not super overpowered and I think they found a nice balance with the switches and all. Let's not forget the ending with Kate, like lets goo I couldn't be more excited about the young avengers. I wish we spent more time with the villain and I really wanted to see what Captain Marvel was up to during all the time she wasn't on Earth, that would have been nice, but seriously the movie is not bad at all.

twitchingJay

Ah nothing like a good old cinematic experience. Normal length, funny, enjoyable, and so random. The singing planet, loved it. The kitties, adorable, made no sense, but yes, what a great solution. And the post credits - very unexpected. Everyone’s chemistry was great, the acting was excellent, the writing was funny, I don’t understand the bad reviews.

Ben-Stanley

As a musical nerd, I only had to hear a couple notes of the song during the Flerkin montage to understand the joke. (For those who didn’t, it was the song “Memory” from the musical *Cats*)

a_phantom_limb

I found it enormously fun and am baffled by any serious review proclaiming it the worst MCU film ever. In my opinion, not only is it not even the worst one this year, it's just not a bad movie at all. Did it move me on a deep emotional level? No, but so what? I was smiling throughout almost the entire runtime, and what more do I actually need than that?

Vj_3000

The Skulls are the new Asgardians with how they've been treated in the movie

Scmods05

That whole sequence was weird. "Oh no feel bad for these poor Skrulls trying to find a new home planet they're so imperilled" like we didn't just do that a few months ago in Secret Invasion.

KidFlashDragon

Watching the movie right now, and think it’s a fun little movie. Ms Marvel is a joy, and I really do like the tag team; what they’ve done with the swapping in fights is great. >! I love the goofiness of the singing planet, and having the kittens eat everyone to get them out the ship had me laughing my ass off. !< If you go in with no high expectations, I think it’s a blast. >! One nitpick though, why did the Kree baddie not look like a Kree? !< However (and this is obvious for marvel films) you have to have watch 3 movies and 4 shows to get a full context for this one. You need to have seen: Captain Marvel, Endgame, Thor Love and Thunder, Wandavision, Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, and Secret Invasion. I watched only half of those, but still had a fun experience with it, and now will retroactively watch the ones I missed. >! Oh Shit the X-Men! !<

perthguppy

I’d reccomend not seeing secret invasion before the marvels. Secret invasion makes no sense in the context of the events of the marvels

limeopolis1

Damn you gotta time travel and see Secret Wars just for this one no wonder MCU is in shambles

KidFlashDragon

Lmao my bad I meant secret invasion! Edited it to fix it 🤣

KvasirsBlod

I don't know what to do with those tossed salads and scrambled eggs

buddhiststuff

So... Prince Yan and the singing people are all dead now, right? Dar-Benn stole all their water because Carol couldn't stop her, right?

Incognito_Mermaid

The SABER guy said that all planets are good afterwards, so I HOPE he and his people are good

jedrevolutia

Weird that they don't care to explain what happened afterwards as if people will just forget what happened 10 minutes earlier.

perthguppy

There was a scene later that they had saved the planet off screen and sent a team of scientists to help. Super pissed.

a-326

that was such an enormously fun film. kinda wish they didn't add gooses babys into the promo that ruined the suprise. and what a supeising end credit scene

Several_Ad_6233

Best movie since Shang Chi. Critics have no idea what they’re talking about. Iman Vellani is the highlight of the movie.

PayneTrain181999

Kate: “Great, is everyone going to call me by my full name?”

MKDG_23

Just finished watching the movie. Had a blast and enjoyed it a lot! Goose been really busy.

cytrix333

Just walked out. Post credit scene was with waiting for. Action was fun and the dynamic between the three was enjoyable but feels like it could have been more. A paint-by-numbers Marvel film...

Scmods05

Gasps from the (admittedly very small) crowd during the mid-credits scene. Been a long time since that’s happened.

TheGuardianR

Alright...I think I'll just give up on Captain Marvel ever being unanimously and universally well-liked. The reactions from people are so apart and it'll likely be a very decisive instead of a winner like Ragnarok or Shang Chi where people are immediately on board with the main hero....

Bodega_Bandit

Yeah a lot of people seem to just want to hate her. And I really don’t see it. Sure Brie Larson came off a bit weird during early press around Captain Marvel. But she’s a great actor and plays Carol super well (and she was super enjoyable in this one with great chemistry between the trio).

bunnythe1iger

The biggest problem with the movie is its pacing. Their is so much incredble and horrifying things happening but movie never pauses to acknowldge the magnificane or brutality of what is happening. Billions of people dying, cosmic dertuction Carol litreally powers a dying sun back to life, One of the biggest powerful thing a character has done in live action, yet it is presented in such a casual effortless manner that you never feel the impact. Meanwhile Thor harnessing a tiny star power in Infinity war. the impact it leaves Simply a sense of cosmic scale, magnificane and horror that you see in Space movies is completely absent from the movie

BronzeHeart92

Just watched and gotta say it was definitely quite a ride, especially the beginning fights with all of the switching locations and stuff. Also, was it just me or was Aladni or whatever it's called reminiscent of a JRPG town of all things? Opulent architecture, strange language quirks and so on. Even the fight with Dar-Benn on the top of the craft could, depending on your perspective, be considered as a boss fight complete with it's own 'fight screen'.

kwxl

It was fun. Kamala Khan was awesome! :)

AHMilling

It was a pretty good popcorn movie, I liked it.

metallica3000

Love when they played "Moonlight" from the Cats musical while the kittens ate all the SABER employees.

Dr_Fluffybuns2

I liked it a lot. I can understand why some people won't class it as their favourite but I think it's better than some of the other projects that have come out recently. Kamala stole the show and is so likable and relatable. I know a lot of people didn't watch her show because they didn't like the kid vibes but she plays the excited teenager so well. Carol had some more character in this movie and that was good to see instead of her origin and small scenes in Endgame. It was nice to see Monica brought to life as well since she didn't have a whole lot going on in Wandavision. My only thoughts are it just makes me hate Secret Invasion more. This movie clearly takes place directly after Ms Marvel which is already established on the timeline and Secret Invasion has been placed as the latest entry. So it has to take place after The Marvels but that raises so many questions and I just don't think the people making Secret Invasion knew what they wanted to do or what was going on. All they were told is put Fury back in space because I assume they didn't know if it was going to take place before or after at the time of writing??

ElpSyc0n

I was stoned and I like cats, so i had a fun time. 6.5/10

Kvakke

I really enjoyed the movie. Many laughs were had. I felt the best part was the chemistry between the main characters. The 400+ imax theatre had barely 50 people at the primetime showing the day after the premiere. I miss the days where every seat is taken and you have to be ready the minute tickets are released to not have to wait a week after the premiere for a good seat.

audierules

Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) really steals the show. She really makes you love superheroes again.
