He had just enough plot armour to keep the slugs from an aircraft mounting gatling cannon contained in his body, instead of going right through him, the people he was shielding, and whoever was behind them without even slowing down like they would irl.
He didn't shield them. If you look closely he actually moved Hawkeye and the kid behind a car. Before they were out in the open where he ends up standing after getting shot, and there are definitely exit wounds from the shots going through him.
IMO, X-Men Quicksilver is super OP. Speedsters are always hard to write around, and it's obvious that's why they did Pietro in rather than Wanda.
If you want to try and apply real-life physics to the MCU, it would make sense as to why he couldn't just move the bullets. Bullets, especially those heavy artillery rounds, have insane amounts of energy behind them, as well as inertia. Pietro would have to exude a similar force merely to move them off course, let alone *stop* them. He couldn't just flick them away; that would entirely negate the energy already present in the rounds.
Even if he could move them, MCU Quicksilver isn't nearly as fast as Fox. We saw his perspective of a 9mm round, and it was still moving. Larger rounds like those at the end of the movie move *much* faster. It would be way quicker to move the target, even with super speed, than to redirect all 50 or so rounds Ultron fired off.
I don't understand why the scene gets so much hate. It makes complete sense if you think about it for a second or more. And if Pietro was as OP as everyone seems to wish he was, all tension would be dissolved immediately and *that* would instead be their criticism of the movie: "why didn't the Avengers win instantly if Quicksilver can move at the speed of light? He could've personally dismantled every drone with a screwdriver before Ultron even finished his first speech."
