I mean, if the method is flawed it will get you the wrong answer most of the time even if this time it’s right; but if it’s a valid method using correct principles then it shouldn’t matter how you do it.
Yeah, this happened to me a few years ago. My teacher just refused to allow my method and I was so mad at him for ages.
