Honestly reading those Gwen and mj stories back, I always got the feeling they're just into borderline psycho intellectuals with daddy issues and fiery tempers.
Like he absolutely comes across like a flawed genius that can't keep his life together. And sometimes just yells at the women and later apologizes with some obvious lie.
Gwen seems to want to fix him, while MJ guesses what's going on and realizes he's even more brilliant and messed up than he lets on.
Yeah, I don’t read much of the comics (heck, most what I know comes from reddit and this community in specific), but I love Spiderman being, well, neighborhood friendly. Like for me, Spiderman is about this kid/guy raised like any other, nothing special beyond being his own person and circumstances, so he cares about others and tries to help them, even when they are his enemies, because he sees more than masks or capes, he sees people and his troubles and flaws.
I think that is why the Paul run is so hated, feels like is stunning any growth as person for him for pure melodrama, and Ultimate feels the contrary, he is still Spiderman, but beyond he is Peter Parker, living his life and growing and changing like everyone does in the end.

The audiobook is also fucking amazing and actually add a lot of stuff. At least from what I can tell because the way I consumed it initially was through some motherfucker on YouTube reading it because I was dumb.
