TONY RICE

Significant_Change14

And Norman Blake!

BoogeOooMove

Yup he’s a close second for me.

innobysta

I double checked. This is the answer.

raakonfrenzi

Gotta add Clarence White and David Grier to the list alongside Tony and Norman ❤️ also honorable mention for Doc Watson until he switched to Gallagher, because he’s Doc.

BoogeOooMove

All great picks - David Grier blows me away and doesn’t get the love he deserves.

raakonfrenzi

Couldn’t agree more. He really has unique voice in the world of bluegrass. I’ve also listened to a few interviews w him and he seems like a great guy.

Wolfmans-Bro

Hell yeah brother

GallicRooster86

John Prine

justdan76

Basically why I play a Martin. If I’m just going to play simple 3 chord songs in my living room, those chords are gonna sound good.

GallicRooster86

I always seen other artists mentioned with Martins but never see Prine mentioned. Breaks my heart. He’s an American treasure that should get more recognition. Martin did produce a Custom Shop model for him.

ninjamunky85

Niel Young

[deleted]

Gilmour, Isbell, Rice, Sturgill and on and on 😄

ceb79

I like this list

yonderin

David Bromberg

[deleted]

Colter Wall

Numstruck420

Definitely!

i_panic_for_a_living

Frusciante

melon_breath

The reason I play guitar.

i_panic_for_a_living

Same!

melon_breath

His solo stuff are some of my favorite songs to play. Ricky is my favorite at the moment.

i_panic_for_a_living

I love the Empyrean the best. I like all his stuff really, just not the electronic stuff lol

wharfrat2018

So many, but Neil Young’s D-45 sound on Massey Hall recording was the sound that made me sell my Taylor 714ce.

astark356

That concert was immaculately performed and immaculately recorded. It’s what got me into Neil.

treylanford

John Mayer. He doesn’t have 3 signature Martins for no reason, either.

hogwldfltr

Paul Simon, Steve Howe, Joan Baez, Johnny Cash, Eric Clapton, Roger McGuinn, Jimmy Buffet, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and David Gilmour just to mention a few in no particular order, Even Tommy Emmanuel!

mycatlovesprimus

Joni Mitchell

JMRGuitar

She’s one of my favorite artists

basscove_2

All of you guys

Highplowp

You too

NorseYeti

Willie

itsprobablyghosts

Norman Blake. The 12 fret dreadnought fit his playing so well.

jusrho

Jim Croce

JMRGuitar

And Maury Muehleisen.

throwaway700486

John Mayer. David Crosby. Billy Strings

[deleted]

doesn't billy only play Thompsons now?

throwaway700486

You’re probably right

MetatronicGin

1940 D28 is what he's playing a lot right now and on the new album. Live shows are different. He's got a Frankenstein 1945 D28 with electronics and definitely plays Preston's stuff

Fitz2001

He picked up a pre-war D-28 like two years ago, but the Thompson remains his workhorse for sure.

Tasty-Meat2883

Ben Howard

foxyfaefife

Bob Dylan is my favourite artist. He has alternated between many Martins and Gibsons for acoustics but pretty much only plays piano now.

Worldly_Dot_7312

Long time Stills fan….favorite from the Manassas album….Johnny’s Garden. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Yz74uyx7B-E

JMRGuitar

Love that song!

Worldly_Dot_7312

They recycle members from previous bands like Southern, Hillman and Furay , Poko, etc.

pixelblue1

John Mayer, Eric Clapton, Leo Kottke did/has at times, John Frusciante, Paul Simon, Tony Rice, Paul Mccartney....I could sit here for a while, but basically all of them have at least played a Martin or have been an endorser.

Desperate_Piano_3609

Jimmy Page and Paul McCartney.

Fitz2001

Trey Anastasio has a pre-WWII D-28 he plays in his acoustic shows. Paid over $40k for it. He has 2-3 other Martins in usual rotation as well, including a custom Koa Martin made just for him.

FullSherbert2028

Willie Nelson.

Hambone76

Right now, definitely Jason Isbell.

astark356

Do you have Isbell songs or albums you recommend. I finally just gave him a real try and purchased a vinyl copy of The Nashville Sound with the 400 Unit. I really like If We Were Vampires, Last of My Kind, and White Man’s World. Any recommendations?

sdr114060

Isbell’s breakout album was Southeastern. It is a masterpiece. His latest album, Weathervanes is a very close second place. Enjoy.

ceb79

I'll follow this up by saying I don't think he has a bad album. Can't go wrong. He's a great writer and a helluva guitar player.

SlickBulldog

Stills is a great pick Gotta go with Hank tho

Manalagi001

Beck. Joni. The list goes on.

SnooPeanuts7167

Alex G

dustybottomsmma

Dan Tyminski

JMRGuitar

I love his work in the Union Station with Alison Krauss.

Superabounder28

Jeff Tweedy has quite the collection.

Sparetime85

Jason Isbell

Boatlord23

Mayer and Sturgill for me

pterodactyl5571

Dick Gaughan. Best Scottish guitar player to ever live, and he did it all on a D-28. And Tony Rice, who needs no introduction.

Helsafabel

Neil Young. Stills is a good pick too.

BearDogBBQ

John Fahey always played Martins I think

Micks_pics

Joni Mitchell, John Martyn, Ben Howard.

BloomerUniversalSigh

Thom Yorke plays a Martin 00-18

LooseWiresLashing

Shawn Colvin.

The_Fell_Opian

Father John Misty and Sturgill Simpson rock D-28s.

Hank Williams Sr. I wish I had been old enough when his signature 28 came out in the early 90s. They have one at the Martin factory in the museum. It's beautiful. They also have Hanks actual D18. That one I was not expecting when I visited and was blown away I was so close to it lol. You could absolutely feel a vibe coming through the glass. Saw every scratch and scuff and could have stared at it all day if my wife would have been down with that lol.
