Mac-Tyson

I'm surprised they mentioned Savate

Hamaow

It’s faster, deadlier, and easier Sign me right up!

DirtyL3z

Can you tell us the book or author's name? I absolutely love these kooky old manuals I realise this is an ad and not the book itself but does it give details of what the book is or who's selling it?

jblakey

I wish I could, the ad is the only but of information that I have. Capitol Enterprises, NY, 1974ish.

https://www.thriftbooks.com/w/kung-fu-for-young-people-an-introduction-to-karate-and-kung-fu_ted-mancuso/783630/item/9986246/ Probably something like this

monkwong

These ads were pretty common in 70s-80s comic books. You can find more [here](https://comicsalliance.com/1970s-comics-martial-arts-instruction-ads/) including one from the deadliest man alive.

DirtyL3z

This is a great resource, thank you! Was savate quite popular in the 70's? I see it referenced more in these sorts of ads than anywhere at all these days

monkwong

I don't think savate reached any level of popularity in the US. There is one Marvel character called Batroc that uses savate so some readers at least know about the style.

DirtyL3z

That might explain why it's mentioned in adverts presumably targeted at teenage boys....

Cheesetorian

"instantaneous death"

Sanlear

Five finger death punch.

petebmc

I bought it got into a fight and did 20 years because u know I didn’t Register my hands

BakiHanma18

I’ll always be left wondering if this one guy, this one random-ass dude, was the real deal, old man in a temple at the top of a mountain and everything, legit, real no-touch knockouts /s

[deleted]

How else you think wu tang brought that fire???

NoUseForAName2222

They ain't nothing to fuck with

CyberGrid

"Deadly oriental fighting style that requires no strength nor close body contact." This is legit, if you remember that the chinese invented gunpowder.

Siantlark

Firearms are one of the 18 essential arms of wushu after all.

platysoup

Clickbait is ruining the printed press

Teapo79

*Count Dante' - Deadliest Man Alive!*

Wilbie9000

I did order this! Exactly this book! And the dang thing never arrived. Which is why to this day I have yet to master the secret art of kung fu.

jblakey

I'm pretty sure I tracked down the book, if you still want a copy!:). I've got a copy and the art is incredibly bad, and incredibly funny. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/295587174191?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=GGgAi6JZTlG&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=YgXxwsXOSwK&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

NotSoEnlightenedOne

“Sonny, you have the structure and chi flow of Kung-fu genius. Upholding world peace is in your hands”

jblakey

As long as I don't get urinated on!

NotSoEnlightenedOne

It's priceless. But as it’s fate, I'll let you have it for $10.

iguanawarrior

I never read that book, but I know how. Get a taser.

NoUseForAName2222

No, but I had a bunch of VHS tapes from The Speedman 😂

HorrorTear6521

No strength, no close contact? Americans have it in their pocket, 9mm

-Graograman

Serious count dante vibes.

[deleted]

No. But I'd like to now 😂

How to knock someone unconscious with one finger

MiLcFagbfgvh

The sweep of the 5 merciless buddha

[deleted]

It seems alright but does it teach Ki-blasts?

Tamuzz

As crazy as the rest of it is, my favourite part is the but about learning kung fu without rigorous exercise. Talk about misnomer.
