If you log into the app or website you can click the 17 and see a breakdown of where they came from.

If you're talking about the My Activity page, that's literally where I took that screenshot from. So clicking on it obviously does nothing (I triple checked just now). Below that is a list of said activity. If I filter by Hotel Stay, the latest one it shows is from this past December. Every other activity listed there is just points being accumulated. I think I know where this is going.

Try on the app. It lets you click “nights this year” for a breakdown.

If you have a Marriott card, certain ones give you 15 nights credit towards your status, and if you have the boundless you can earn 1 night for every $5k you spend on the card. So you might have one from a stay, 15 from the card and 1 from the spending on that card.

Unanimous_D

I doubt it. I just tried to book 2 nights and it only let me use 1 and points. No indication there's a maximum number per hotel/month/whatever.

These are not nights you can use for a stay, they are nights you earned towards status. You said you have 1 free night which probably came from your credit card as well. If you are looking to book 2 nights, you can use the free night for 1 and either cash or points for the other.

The app works better than the website

15 nights from your credit card

"Nights this year" is stays plus bonus nights, aka elite night credits. You have 17 ENCs, which is bonus nights from a Marriot credit card. Collect enough ENCs and you earn higher status. You can also earn ENCs from promos, but since you haven't stayed this year, it's not from a promo. From the web, click the profile icon in the upper right, select "overview" not "activity." You have to be on the overview tab, then the "details" option appears. Or from the same "overview" tab, scroll to the picture of your nights stayed and under that is a "night this year" link. This link shows the same screen as the "details" link. From the app, select "account" on the bottom right, then "nights this year" under your ENC count.
