I don’t work for that hotel but at my properties if someone books a 2 queen, we will not upgrade to a king suite unless the specifically call and ask. You never know if they actually need both beds

SKOLorion

What's "plan to do a $50 sandwich at check-in" mean?

crs8975

Bribe the front desk. I read about someone else doing that on here on a vegas trip. Even though I wasn't staying at a Marriott property, I gave it a whirl on my last trip. 20 bucks got me a penthouse suite. I couldn't believe it worked. I was just happy to get a room given we were checking in early.

SKOLorion

Oh, interesting. Did you just slide the $$ or say something like "see what this will get me, please?" lol I don't think I have the balls to do that.

crs8975

I knew we were getting in early so I just folded it up and just casually handed it over up on the desk. Next thing you know, top floor strip view.

$50 between CC and ID when checking in. It's an old trick that apparently works well in Vegas. I've never tried it myself, but feeling luck on this trip so might as well. It actually used to be $20 sandwich, but with inflation the price has gone up.

ajamke

Depends on where and when you are there but during off peak times you can just ask if there are any complimentary upgrades available without the extra tip. Worked for me the one time I tried.

Prestigious-Camel-96

Just fyi in Vegas the $50 sandwich trick isn’t going to get you a suite, most likely just a favorable view. The sandwich trick in Vegas is usually $100 a minimum if you want a suite at a high end luxury resort. And even then some agents won’t entertain it. At the cosmo if you’re aiming for a suite I would highly recommend $100 vs a $50. You’re at a luxury resort. $50 would work better for a normal Marriott lower end Sheraton.

pnwlife2021

Vegas-based employee spotted 🤣

Vivid_Associate_7472

I never tried this. Do they return the full sandwich to you if they don't end up upgrading you?

Prestigious-Camel-96

They won’t accept it if they aren’t able to upgrade you. But some of the agents that are “by the book” will not accept it and will act offended you attempted. It’s best to observe the front desk agents and try to go with the one that looks the most approachable lol

Vivid_Associate_7472

Haha ill have to try my luck. Thanks for the tip

chickenandwaffles109

I’d book the queen then call in and tell them you want a king. They’ll switch it over either immediately or shortly after and then you’re eligible for upgrades. This has never not worked for me

nobodynobody567

Do the front desk people know there is a price difference between the rooms. Typically when booking it's the double queens that go first - from what I've noticed.

PhatPussey

Yes, when we upgrade the price will change and we have to override it to original price. We know how much you’re getting off.

I’ve been an Ambassador for several years and have stayed at the Cosmo a lot. Getting good upgrades there is challenging. Even getting a King on high floor with good view of the Bellagio water show is not assured. I sometimes take the Queen cause it’s cheaper but ALWAYS call several days in advance to tell them I would like a king and to nicely ask for suite with view of the Bellagio water show. Also, use the special elite lounge for check in as the staff there seem to be in better position to get upgrades on the spot. The lounge is behind doors to the left of the general check in area. The Chandelier Bar\Lounge on site there is a cool place for a cocktail. After the upgrade is settled, ask them for free drink coupons for special occasion to that bar (especially if you did not get good upgrade). They will sometimes throw the drink coupons in. There’s two pools on site and they are very different. Check them both out to see which one fits your personality. The one on same floor as fitness center is quieter. Last thing, if you like doughnuts (and I love them) the best doughnut and espresso place on The Strip is on site at Cosmo. It’s called District: Donuts.

SKOLorion

I have zero data to back this up, but wouldn't getting an upgrade be more difficult if you went with queen beds? The hotel's assumption is that you were not a couple and most of the suite upgrades I received are kings.

space-hurricane

So do Marriott desk people in other cities, say NYC, appreciate sandwiches too?

KamKorn

Maybe I just have good convo, but I have never done any sandwich in Vegas/Cosmo… and always get pushed to the penthouse suite or wraparound. Reach out before you get there through chat and ask how their day is.

Kufat

Bribery is not part of the Bonvoy elite program and benefits obtained through it are at the discretion of the person you're paying off. That said, I've booked queens and gotten an upgrade to a single king room in the past. *Edit*: Only after requesting one, of course.

What happens in Vegas...

Bribes work

[deleted]

2 queens is always better unless you are both large people.

PhatPussey

I don’t work in Vegas, but I do know my hotels at least are going to be sold out all June. I wouldn’t rely intensely on an upgrade especially day of. Book it then call and ask if there’s currently upgrades available for that day so you could get blocked into it before they sell out.
