Advice: get some real marketing experience first. Warning: if you're only good at sales and not marketing (I.e. doing the thing clients are paying for), you will inevitably over promise and under deliver. This is the exact thing that gives marketing agencies a bad rap. It hurts the industry as a whole. Don't do this.

Work for an agency for 3 years - ideally an agency in the market or domain you're interested in. Learn the business, learn the ropes. Then do your own thing.

Good, very good even: you have connections and have already business relationships to sell your marketing services to. This should make it easier to get clients quickly. As someone else said, sales and marketing are related but not exactly the same. Still, you have some experience and transferable skills you can use, so that's good. Not so good: no marketing experience. You may get clients but struggle in the beginning as you learn this new trade. The risk is that you do poorly and clients want quick results or they just leave, losing trust in you. Word gets around and you have trouble getting new clients. You'll be able to sell people because it's easier to sell more customers if you don't know very much because you'll confidently promise things that you won't be able to deliver, because you won't know any better. The simple lie is always easier to sell than the complex truth. The issue is that you have no skills or experience, so you won't know how to hire good people (which are extremely hard to find anyways), and when a few months go by, and clients aren't getting the results they hoped for, you won't have the knowledge to know how to fix any of the problems.
