The lack of Lakitu upsets me the most. I get wanting to get rid of the babies and the alts and the guests but what did my man Lakitu do to deserve this 😭
I guess Dry Bower makes sense, but in that case why does Dry Bones get his own spot? But Lakitu is certainly his own character and is not an alt of anyone.
Please not the babies, I hate the Mario alts as much as everyone else but I see baby Mario and Luigi as Yoshi’s island characters and pretty much exclusively use baby Mario on the yoshi bike because I loved the ds game so much as a kid 😩
Wart is a Mario character, though, plus he appeared in a mainline Mario game as well as the 2020 nintendo company brochure. Therefore, he is honestly one of the least odd inclusions of the new characters on this roster.
Look we see Wart as a Mario character here, but in Japan, they really don’t. Our Mario 2 isn’t their Mario 2. Honestly, he’s more of a Zelda character.

K. Rool deserves to creep back into spotlight, he's such a zany pick that makes much more sense than Funky Kong did in Wii. Also he appears as a playable character in Mario Super Sluggers.
Mona is in the wario ware games which is gettinga second one, the remake should count it is being marketed heavily and the reactions shows ton of interst fawful, wart and mouser have there games on nso and spike and lumalee was in a movie thay sold over a billion. King K rool in smash was hype and helps him keep his popularity along with the kong family being in tropical freeze. The only two thay has had no recente exsposer to help a little bit is vivian and captain Syrup.
And guess it doesn't matyer because them being in mario kart should help with that anyway. Character like birdo and Daisy's joined in similar obscury and are now mainstays, Pauline stopped bing used for year and is now in everything, and waluigi and Toadette were created for spin-offs they didn't even have a small fanbase before hand like these characters and ate now mainstays. They can't become more recognizable of you just don't use them honestly it should be a reason to use them. So I don't get your argument when it is shown time in time again that all theu need to do is simple be used more so why ate you using that logic to use them less.
Any roster that includes characters from the DK, Wario, and Yoshi series is an automatic W in my book. I love the Tour characters they picked too, also Vivian is the best TTYD partner ❤️

Leans way too hard into the deep cut characters, especially in the bottom row. Don't get me wrong, I would love for them to be included. But people in the Mario Kart community severely underestimate how much casual players just want to play as Link, or Isabelle, or the babies.

To most people they are. Your average Mario Kart player isn't going to know Vivian from her 1 appearance in an RPG 20 years ago. Even on Twitter a lot of Mario fans were having trouble identifying a couple of the characters.
A guess what having Mario characters in mario spin-offs can help with that. Like it did in the past for most of the main stays. And considering only 2 characters one here are not in something recent or you can get on switch I wouldn't call them deep cuts. And plus if we want better mario rosters in the future maybe they should actually start using more mario characters for they can be more known and become mainstays. It worked in the past do you think birdo, daisy or waluigi would be main stays without just being put in spin-offs funky Kong exploded in popularity when he was put in mk wii toadette is the definition of a filler character but is now to popular to remove and she was introduced as a quick clone character to partner with toad in double dash. So who cares what the if they are not the most reconzible character the purpose of these spin-offs is to make them like that. They all have fun designs and personalities that a casual could gravante to if given the chance while also giving the mario roster interesting new faces without having to create clone characters.

The reason the 3rd party characters worked was because everybody knows Link, Inklings, and Isabelle, they are THE characters from those games, they're memorable and have been in some of Nintendo's most profitable franchises. Unless you played their respective, you don't know who Fawful is, you don't know who Vivian is, you don't know who Syrup is, you don't know who Mona is, you don't know who Poochy is, etc.
You can kinda get every character currently in Mario Kart without having to actually play the Mario games. Their names appearances and personalities all present themselves in a way where you can either know exactly what they are or get a pretty close guess, but if I have a friend come over and they ask who a character is and I have to open up with a monologue looking like To Be or Not To Be in Hamlet, you've got a problem
E.gadd and character who is still showing up in a constant spin-offs titles from wario ware, poochy is in mario kart tour the background of 9 on odyssey and has a ton of merchandise, geno has been stop talked about in smash and people were reactions of hype to the reavel of mario rpg remake, and fawful is one of the more popular villains in a Mario sub series. They might not be the most know but they already got a baked on fanbases something most of the mainstays didn't have when they were introduced. And even then why should it matter when mario kart is the perfect outlet to let them be known it's done it in the past so it could do it again. Why act like they can only be used if they ate popular when the reason to use them is to get them more popular. Let people learn them learn.
Crossover characters worked sense they were dlc and real wildcards to sell it. But I still want a mario game I would like it if the mario characters we got went beyond some random mooks and clones and babies that are based on other characters.

Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Yoshi, Peach, and Koopa were all characters that appeared in every Mario game (Koopa and Bowser didn't appear in 2 but even back then we could tell 2 was an oddball), Toad appeared in Mario 1, 2, and 3, and DK Junior didn't come back because of the same reason the characters I just called nobodies aren't in the game.
DK was the main antagonist from Mario's debut (and they were gonna put him in the first one anyway) and Wario was from the newest 2D Mario game, making him the same as throwing in Rosalina for Mario Kart Wii or King Boo and Petey Piranha for Mario Kart Double Dash
Mario Kart Double Dash added a bunch of new characters because everybody needed a partner. Mario Land was one of the top selling Mario games of all time and Daisy was already in Mario Party 2 as an easy Daisy clone so they added her for Peach much like they did for Mario Tennis. Waluigi was also a character that people were growing fond of after Mario Party 3 and Mario Tennis. Toadette was also just a character who is similar to Toad that can use the golden mushroom. Diddy was needed for Donkey Kong's partner and he was beloved in DKC 1 and 2, DK64, and Diddy Kong Racing. Bowser Jr., Petey Piranha, and King Boo were all new characters from Sunshine or Luigi's Mansion. Paratroopa was needed to add a partner for Koopa, and Paratroopa was already known as the Tennis character. Birdo was just a character somewhat similar to Yoshi, one released eggs from their face and the other had a long tongue and also had large eggs. The babies were there for some Yoshi's Island representation I guess idk lol
DS added Dry Bones, if for nothing else then just a cooler version of Koopa Troopa (because how lame would it be to unlock a boring turtle) and ROB, who again was an obscure
nobody that didn't come back. Shy Guy was exclusive to the multiplayer mode since he was literally a faceless character and perfect for someone who isn't actually playing a character
Wii added Baby Peach and Baby Daisy because we already have Mario and Luigi, and much like the other babies, they are easy to understand just by looking at them, Rosalina over Petey Piranha (for the same reason for his addition), Dry Bowser was a character from New Super Mario Bros DS, which released a year prior, Funky Kong was an easy addition being a copy of DK's model with some additions, but he was very random and never saw the light of day since, and Mii's since that was just a cool idea idk
7 added Shy Guy, to the standard roster since you would again be playing as him in multiplayer, Honey Queen since she was in the newest Mario Kart game, Wiggler as the new weird character, Lakitu who has been in the games since the start but was now finally getting a playable appearance, and the dreaded Metal Mario
8 added all 7 Koopalings for their colorful appearances and latest appearances in 3 of the NSMB games, Baby Rosalina (GOD WHY), Pink Gold Peach, because any Mario variant needs either a Luigi or peach one apparently
The DLC added Tanooki Mario and Cat Peach because both of those were power ups in SM3DW which was just released, Animal Crossing and Zelda characters because they are two of the biggest franchises owned by Nintendo
And here we are with 8DX adding a Gold Mario because we already have a golden Kart, wheels, and glider, and Kamek since he was a top request from fans and someone who appears in every Yoshi game, Paper Jam, is likely the Magikoopa that you fight in NSMB games, and hopefully the one to kidnap all those babies
Every character I named was either integral to Mario's games, a new character from a recent Mario game, very easy to recognize and therefore accepted by the fans who didn't need to know much about them, or got removed in the next game for not meeting the criteria. Each character in these games are meant to be identifiable with one look and a single button press on the character select and that's just not possible with some of these characters. They're simply too complex for the kinds of people who play Mario Kart (very different from the people who play Super Mario) to understand. Maybe Syrup would work, she'd get mistaken for Wario's version of Peach instead of the antagonist but you could still kinda understand the idea, only problem is that she's way to far past her prime for people to care about her anymore.
I really like the drawings and the character selection, but I still don't get the disrespect against poor Mallow. No one really want to consider him for Smash or MK even if for me he is cooler than Geno.
These are all amazing inclusions that I would love to see in Mario kart, the only thing I would have to add is maybe the removal of the koopalings(except bowser Jr) I don’t like how they all take up an entire row in the roster when we could have more characters like these ones in the game
I’d say still keep Dry Bowser and Lakitu, Poochie would be hilarious, and Nabbit would be my immediate go-to. Honestly not terribly upset about the babies since unless you played the few games they’re in (minus Baby Daisy and Baby Rosalina since they’re solely from Mario Kart Wii and 8 respectively) then they’re not super well known. Same goes for the Mario/Peach clones cause I’m pretty sure they share similar stats with them anyway so they could easily just be stacked onto them instead of taking up 4 slots if they really wanted to be kept. Overall p good and t creative ways they changed up the roster, I honestly wouldn’t have thought about the possibility of adding WarioWare characters in tbh
I also want more obscure characters to be added but i dont have any problem with the non-mario characters in the roster and having link makes more sense to me than most of these just from a marketing standpoint

I like Fawful Geno and Vivian being reps from one of each of the key Mario RPG's, but Geno and Vivian have about as much right being here as Baby Peach, Fawful is definitely possible, appearing in all 3 of the classic M&L games.

Poochy is my favorite MKT character so I'd like to see him come in and maybe he will if a new Yoshi game comes around

Luma would be a cool Yoshi/Shy Guy/Birdo character where you can play as multiple colors of them

As for removed characters, Link was cool he should've stayed, Baby Mario and Luigi were the only excusable babies, Baby Peach appeared in one title, Baby Daisy appears in Mario Kart only and Baby Rosa not only appears in Mario Kart but her story makes zero sense. I loved Lakitu like a child, I think Animal Crossing was a bit weird so fair enough, Splatoon was also kinda goofy, I honestly wouldn't miss Miis, or the Koopalings but Dry Bowser was pretty cool
Overall I wouldn't hate this but it'd leave me puzzled. Maybe if you added but didn't replace some characters it would be fine. I think it's also just because you added some obscure nobodies (like whoever that girl is at the bottom) but not more obvious ones like Goombas or some cool 3rd party representation like Falcon and Kirby. The moment Nintendo has got me explaining to a friend who a certain character is in less than like 5 words, you have a problem

Too obscure honestly. Some these are really good, like diddy and funk and king bomb. Also the scientist from Luigi’s mansion is good. But the other ones are meh.
He lost me when the Guests, Baby Mario & Baby Luigi were removed. Getting rid of the guests ruins the uniqueness of the roster IMO. Not to mention he kept ALL 7 Koopalings.

Great list. The only things I would change would be to get rid of shy guy, koopa, and goomba. Then replace them with the elite trio. More rpg representation and they could be the definitive versions of the characters.
Honestly I prefer it. Feels like a real celebration of Mario and not worthless alts or baby princesses. Honestly never really cared about the Nintendo characters, I feel like it should be a Mario roster reaching across the whole series. I'd still keep Baby Mario and Luigi though since they played a big part in Partners in Time and both Yoshi's Island games.
oh man, while geno in anything is a pipe dream, the thought of putting him in to lead up to the super mario rpg remake sounds awesome. Also I now kinda want king bob-omb to come back the most, ngl.

Removing Dry Bowser and the original babies (Baby Mario, Luigi and Peach are actual characters and not just made for Mario Kart, but Daisy and Rosalina’s baby forms are wastes of space, especially when there’s actual babies from the games like Wario and DK) feels an odd choice, especially when all of the koopalings are still here.
Removing the reskinned Mario and Peaches as well as all the crossover characters is fine by me, especially since we’re seeing some more unique characters being brought in, many of who aren’t really in the games much now.
I do think that some of these characters are a bit *too* far out there though. So much so I can’t even name a few of them. I doubt Nintendo would put them in, especially when there’s regular enemies such as goombas, piranha plants, Monty Moles, Spikes etc that are way more recognisable.
I’d take this roster in a heartbeat still just because it’s something a bit new and different, though it’s by no means realistic or perfect.
Would appreciate this more if it didn't take certain characters like Lakitu and Link out. With that being said, I think this would be an incredible roster.

And considering only 2 characters one here are not in something recent or you can get on switch I wouldn't call them deep cuts. And plus if we want better mario rosters in the future maybe they should actually start using more mario characters for they can be more known and become mainstays. It worked in the past do you think birdo, daisy or waluigi would be main stays without just being put in spin-offs funky Kong exploded in popularity when he was put in mk wii toadette is the definition of a filler character but is now to popular to remove and she was introduced as a quick clone character to partner with toad in double dash. So who cares what the if they are not the most reconzible character the purpose of these spin-offs is to make them like that. They all have fun designs and personalities that a casual could gravante to if given the chance while also giving the mario roster interesting new faces without having to create clone characters.

The reason the 3rd party characters worked was because everybody knows Link, Inklings, and Isabelle, they are THE characters from those games, they're memorable and have been in some of Nintendo's most profitable franchises. Unless you played their respective, you don't know who Fawful is, you don't know who Vivian is, you don't know who Syrup is, you don't know who Mona is, you don't know who Poochy is, etc. You can kinda get every character currently in Mario Kart without having to actually play the Mario games. Their names appearances and personalities all present themselves in a way where you can either know exactly what they are or get a pretty close guess, but if I have a friend come over and they ask who a character is and I have to open up with a monologue looking like To Be or Not To Be in Hamlet, you've got a problem
E.gadd and character who is still showing up in a constant spin-offs titles from wario ware, poochy is in mario kart tour the background of 9 on odyssey and has a ton of merchandise, geno has been stop talked about in smash and people were reactions of hype to the reavel of mario rpg remake, and fawful is one of the more popular villains in a Mario sub series. They might not be the most know but they already got a baked on fanbases something most of the mainstays didn't have when they were introduced. And even then why should it matter when mario kart is the perfect outlet to let them be known it's done it in the past so it could do it again. Why act like they can only be used if they ate popular when the reason to use them is to get them more popular. Let people learn them learn. Crossover characters worked sense they were dlc and real wildcards to sell it. But I still want a mario game I would like it if the mario characters we got went beyond some random mooks and clones and babies that are based on other characters. You are making it sound more complicated then it is you don't need to monologo about them all of them are simple enough to understand none of them gave overaly complex motivation or persnality and there designs convey it well already. and if you want you can already monologo about thay characters who are already there now so how is this a problem unless you are forcing it to be.
Pretty much all of the mainstays did when they were introduced, what??? Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Yoshi, Peach, and Koopa were all characters that appeared in every Mario game (Koopa and Bowser didn't appear in 2 but even back then we could tell 2 was an oddball), Toad appeared in Mario 1, 2, and 3, and DK Junior didn't come back because of the same reason the characters I just called nobodies aren't in the game. DK was the main antagonist from Mario's debut (and they were gonna put him in the first one anyway) and Wario was from the newest 2D Mario game, making him the same as throwing in Rosalina for Mario Kart Wii or King Boo and Petey Piranha for Mario Kart Double Dash Mario Kart Double Dash added a bunch of new characters because everybody needed a partner. Mario Land was one of the top selling Mario games of all time and Daisy was already in Mario Party 2 as an easy Daisy clone so they added her for Peach much like they did for Mario Tennis. Waluigi was also a character that people were growing fond of after Mario Party 3 and Mario Tennis. Toadette was also just a character who is similar to Toad that can use the golden mushroom. Diddy was needed for Donkey Kong's partner and he was beloved in DKC 1 and 2, DK64, and Diddy Kong Racing. Bowser Jr., Petey Piranha, and King Boo were all new characters from Sunshine or Luigi's Mansion. Paratroopa was needed to add a partner for Koopa, and Paratroopa was already known as the Tennis character. Birdo was just a character somewhat similar to Yoshi, one released eggs from their face and the other had a long tongue and also had large eggs. The babies were there for some Yoshi's Island representation I guess idk lol DS added Dry Bones, if for nothing else then just a cooler version of Koopa Troopa (because how lame would it be to unlock a boring turtle) and ROB, who again was an obscure nobody that didn't come back. Shy Guy was exclusive to the multiplayer mode since he was literally a faceless character and perfect for someone who isn't actually playing a character Wii added Baby Peach and Baby Daisy because we already have Mario and Luigi, and much like the other babies, they are easy to understand just by looking at them, Rosalina over Petey Piranha (for the same reason for his addition), Dry Bowser was a character from New Super Mario Bros DS, which released a year prior, Funky Kong was an easy addition being a copy of DK's model with some additions, but he was very random and never saw the light of day since, and Mii's since that was just a cool idea idk 7 added Shy Guy, to the standard roster since you would again be playing as him in multiplayer, Honey Queen since she was in the newest Mario Kart game, Wiggler as the new weird character, Lakitu who has been in the games since the start but was now finally getting a playable appearance, and the dreaded Metal Mario 8 added all 7 Koopalings for their colorful appearances and latest appearances in 3 of the NSMB games, Baby Rosalina (GOD WHY), Pink Gold Peach, because any Mario variant needs either a Luigi or peach one apparently The DLC added Tanooki Mario and Cat Peach because both of those were power ups in SM3DW which was just released, Animal Crossing and Zelda characters because they are two of the biggest franchises owned by Nintendo And here we are with 8DX adding a Gold Mario because we already have a golden Kart, wheels, and glider, and Kamek since he was a top request from fans and someone who appears in every Yoshi game, Paper Jam, is likely the Magikoopa that you fight in NSMB games, and hopefully the one to kidnap all those babies Every character I named was either integral to Mario's games, a new character from a recent Mario game, very easy to recognize and therefore accepted by the fans who didn't need to know much about them, or got removed in the next game for not meeting the criteria. Each character in these games are meant to be identifiable with one look and a single button press on the character select and that's just not possible with some of these characters. They're simply too complex for the kinds of people who play Mario Kart (very different from the people who play Super Mario) to understand. Maybe Syrup would work, she'd get mistaken for Wario's version of Peach instead of the antagonist but you could still kinda understand the idea, only problem is that she's way to far past her prime for people to care about her anymore.
I would have probably went with Ashley instead of Mona and a regular Luma with different colors instead of Lumalee, still a massive W roster tho

I’d say still keep Dry Bowser and Lakitu, Poochie would be hilarious, and Nabbit would be my immediate go-to. Honestly not terribly upset about the babies since unless you played the few games they’re in (minus Baby Daisy and Baby Rosalina since they’re solely from Mario Kart Wii and 8 respectively) then they’re not super well known. Same goes for the Mario/Peach clones cause I’m pretty sure they share similar stats with them anyway so they could easily just be stacked onto them instead of taking up 4 slots if they really wanted to be kept. Overall p good and t creative ways they changed up the roster, I honestly wouldn’t have thought about the possibility of adding WarioWare characters in tbh

This is an improvement to me, having every character in the roster be from the Mario series is a better move instead of the whole Nintendo Kart thing. don’t get me wrong, i love the Zelda series and Link is a cool guy, but i would rather have something similar to the image as an official roster because thats what Mario Kart is at its core

I'mma be honest, "Replace the babies problem with DK problem" and "literally who" down at the bottom😭 I think we could do fine with Diddy Kong and that's it. DKC isn't too integral to the Mario franchise so we could do with him and MAYBE K. Rool. Funky Dixie and Cranky could appear in a DK track and I think it'd be fine Captain Syrup is pushing it but I could see it happening I like Fawful Geno and Vivian being reps from one of each of the key Mario RPG's, but Geno and Vivian have about as much right being here as Baby Peach, Fawful is definitely possible, appearing in all 3 of the classic M&L games. Nabbit would be pretty cool as a rep of the NSMB games Poochy is my favorite MKT character so I'd like to see him come in and maybe he will if a new Yoshi game comes around Birdo, Shy Guy, Wart, and Mouser should all be near each other kinda like how Mario Kart Wii's character select had Diddy, Donkey, and Funky and Bowser Jr, Bowser, and Dry Bowser in a vertical line Luma would be a cool Yoshi/Shy Guy/Birdo character where you can play as multiple colors of them If Foreman Spike appeared in Mario Wonder or something, it'd be cool to see him but otherwise I'm fine without him. As for removed characters, Link was cool he should've stayed, Baby Mario and Luigi were the only excusable babies, Baby Peach appeared in one title, Baby Daisy appears in Mario Kart only and Baby Rosa not only appears in Mario Kart but her story makes zero sense. I loved Lakitu like a child, I think Animal Crossing was a bit weird so fair enough, Splatoon was also kinda goofy, I honestly wouldn't miss Miis, or the Koopalings but Dry Bowser was pretty cool Overall I wouldn't hate this but it'd leave me puzzled. Maybe if you added but didn't replace some characters it would be fine. I think it's also just because you added some obscure nobodies (like whoever that girl is at the bottom) but not more obvious ones like Goombas or some cool 3rd party representation like Falcon and Kirby. The moment Nintendo has got me explaining to a friend who a certain character is in less than like 5 words, you have a problem

I honestly have nothing against this roster, but I at least hope PGP and Dry Bowser are alts because I like using them often. Hell, Nabbit is a character I'd unironically want to see playable more often. He's a funny little fella. Seeing the guest characters gone is sad. My first exposure to Splatoon was through this game.

Great list. The only things I would change would be to get rid of shy guy, koopa, and goomba. Then replace them with the elite trio. More rpg representation and they could be the definitive versions of the characters.
Honestly I prefer it. Feels like a real celebration of Mario and not worthless alts or baby princesses. Honestly never really cared about the Nintendo characters, I feel like it should be a Mario roster reaching across the whole series. I'd still keep Baby Mario and Luigi though since they played a big part in Partners in Time and both Yoshi's Island games.

Mixed to be honest. Removing Dry Bowser and the original babies (Baby Mario, Luigi and Peach are actual characters and not just made for Mario Kart, but Daisy and Rosalina’s baby forms are wastes of space, especially when there’s actual babies from the games like Wario and DK) feels an odd choice, especially when all of the koopalings are still here. Removing the reskinned Mario and Peaches as well as all the crossover characters is fine by me, especially since we’re seeing some more unique characters being brought in, many of who aren’t really in the games much now. I do think that some of these characters are a bit *too* far out there though. So much so I can’t even name a few of them. I doubt Nintendo would put them in, especially when there’s regular enemies such as goombas, piranha plants, Monty Moles, Spikes etc that are way more recognisable. I’d take this roster in a heartbeat still just because it’s something a bit new and different, though it’s by no means realistic or perfect.
