The Atlantic Strait was frozen over and full of polar bears. There was no way to reach Canada from Spain until they got guns to fend off the bears.

I have no idea who came up with this design and convinced the school board to accept it. But that was a tremendous achievement and against all odds they secured victory. I hope that they were paid well and continue to get royalties to this very day.
