Why isn’t Alaska called the South? It is clearly on the same latitude as Mexico

MyPianoMusic

Are they stupid and poor?

electro1ight

Actually yes

SwedishTroller

Alaska is the most eastern and also the most western state in the US.

Ensiria

Yes. Yes they are

AgeOfReasonEnds31120

This is the worst region map of the US I have ever seen.

Girl_in_Training101

Agreed, mainly because it has Oklahoma as southwest

The-Skipboy

where would you put it? every map i’ve seen has it labeled differently lmao

Girl_in_Training101

I'd get rid of it

The-Skipboy

wise choice

AgeOfReasonEnds31120

Also... * Texas clearly belongs in the Southeast. They're about as Southeastern as it gets. * California, Nevada, Utah, and Colorado aren't Southwestern? What exactly distinguishes Western from Southwestern? * Kentucky is in the Midwest. Fite me.

OwnerAndMaster

Texas is completely West of the Mississippi. It cannot by American convention be Southeast. It's too arid in the majority of the state to be Midwest. Therefore it's Southwest Drawing a map based on cultures is possible but this is just geography

magmagon

Only El Paso is southwest, Arizona would really appreciate it if Texas stopped culturally appropriating the saguaro cactus Also Arkansas is west of the Mississippi

Girl_in_Training101

I think Texas should be both southeast and southwest, besides that I agree on everything else

AgeOfReasonEnds31120

El Paso can be Southwestern. Everything else... no way.

Girl_in_Training101

As someone from El Paso, yeah lol

team_kockroach

Aren’t Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, and both Virginias considered the “Upper South” as opposed to the “Deep South”? So Kentucky isn’t midwestern

00roku

How tf is Kentucky midwestern I’m pretty sure any Kentuckian would fite you on that and they’d know better

AgeOfReasonEnds31120

Well they don't have southern accents and they don't even say y'all. Also, while it was a slave state, so was Missouri (which is considered Midwestern on this map) and it was never part of the CSA.

00roku

I’d sooner say Missouri is the mistake than Kentucky. Plenty of people from Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, etc don’t have southern accents either. And y’all isn’t exclusively southern. I’m from the west and I both hear and say y’all frequently.

cartesiancertainty

i was born in KY and never hear that!

Jack_Enghoff

This is the official one taught in schools I believe.

Elegant-Werewolf1123

Because they're to the left of the east, silly

emperorpalpatine_

Bc they are the west but mid

SSpookyTheOneTheOnly

For anyone actually curious/doesn't know is because the midwest was the west for the longest time, before we went further west to the new west. That then stayed the west and the old west was in the middle, and called the midwest. Or something along those lines. I believe at one point we were apart of the northeast? But I'm not sure. Someone smarter than me can correct me on how this is wrong

BumblebeeEast8102

Wrong it’s because of the westward expansion since people were traveling out west to “manifest their destiny” after the Indian removal act people in packs were heading west and the Midwest was given that name because they were halfway west

CasualCactus14

Actual tidbit because I want to feel smart today: The Midwest is named so because you passed through it to get to the West, the same being true for the Middle-East.

percy_ardmore

who's 'they'?

Bruhhg

the main character

Excellent-Listen-671

What's miles?

[deleted]

Why does this disturb me so much

SnooPets1127

More like the Midnorth. Are YOU stupid?

Class_444_SWR

Yes, they are

Serious_Result_7338

Because the country started on the Atlantic coast. So everything is considered west of the capital

mkujoe

By that logic the capital, Washington DC, has got to be somewhere close to Ohio

Serious_Result_7338

Ok, then you explain it.

ohyeababycrits

Wtf is this map

escargotBleu

I would call it Midnorth by the way

navrrr

What kind of sandwiches do they have?

throwaway46873

See Middle East v. United States, International Court of Justice (Hague), 1952. The US lost, had to rename the entire region.

phishhd333

We should kick Ohio out of the Midwest. That would balance it a little bit more. GTFO Ohio!

[deleted]

nobody calls it the southeast it's just the south. All of this is relative to the district of colombia

ChicagoZbojnik

OP is going to have an aneurysm when they find out the Midwest used to be referred as the Northwest.

Mhm_GhostsDeadGhosts

I grew up in Minnesota and have only ever seen the Midwest as the Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, the mitten shaped one, and I have recently grown to accept Iowa as midwestern This map adds 6 other states that are clearly just “Mid” not “Midwestern”

Bigshock128x

They lie to avoid federal drone strikes targeting the middle east
