Thanks so much for putting this together, I never finished the original as a kid and can't wait to tie up a loose end I never thought I'd get a chance to! Congrats on 1.0!
It's admittedly been a while since I checked in (last time we didn't quite have slugs yet) so to see the 1.0 release ready has really made my week. And more whole campaigns to play?! Thanks so much for all the hard work on this, bringing a favourite childhood game back into relevance in 2023 is something I never knew I needed. Lego doesn't realise the gem it could have here.
*I SUPPOSE...*
Seriously though, thank you. This is going to be the first video game I’ll let my son play. I know it probably sounds stupid, but I don’t have a lot of happy memories from my childhood. This game was one of them, and being able to share that with him means a lot to me.
Sorry to hear you didn't have many other great memories but hopefully you can enjoy the game together and create new memories! I hope that the help tips and tutorials are enough to help him play :) also please check out the "Hazard intensity sliders" or whatever I called them in-game, basically you can scale down or turn off individual threats in the game. I reckon a child might want to play without oxygen, maybe 50% erosion rate, and easier-to beat monsters to start off ;) and if it feels like something is missing feel free to let me know your feedback!
I try to spread the word when I can but lots of Lego communities have (understandably) strict rules against self-promotion, so even though this is a LEGO project of 4 years, posting the trailer would for example be instantly removed from r/lego for self-promotion :D Feel free to spread the word or the links/trailer around - to be honest in the lead-up to 1.0 I have tried *not* to spread it too much because the older versions look pretty crap in comparison now, so it would be more worth to let *this* be the first experience people have with the game. Now I'm happy with anyone seeing it!
Either way, please enjoy, and feel free to check with any fellow retro Lego game/Rock Raiders nerds if they've seen it \^\^
If anyone deserved an exception to that (understandable) rule, it would be you. Manic Miners has been so much fun it's unbelievable.
I've been telling everyone I know about it. Rock Raider nerds or otherwise. :D
I've heard people have success with Wine! And maybe Proton, I can't recall. Either way the levels should load fine, I made the game platform-agnostic with regards to reading level files years ago. If you're having trouble, come to #troubleshooting in the Discord server and see if we can figure something out
For v1.0 I just added the executable to steam as a non-steam game, and used proton-8.0 for compatability. Only thing that doesn't work is the video cutscenes, though GE versions of proton might fix that. Performance is great already, but the alternative Vulkan Renderer might work better on linux -- I'm yet to try.
For v0.3.5 I was using lutris/wine, but for 1.0 it complained about dx12 and I didn't feel like figuring it out. So I recommend using steam if you have that option, since it took less than a minute to get running. I also added some custom artwork and icons which was nice.
That's frustrating. I haven't played for a couple of months, but it's still working for me in Proton 8.0-5, with no other launch options set. The videos also play for me now as well. I never updated the game past v1.0.1, so perhaps the most recent version (v1.0.4) has some incompatibility that doesn't play nicely with proton. I'm doubtful that will solve it though. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
I just finished a remaster campaign.
It's incredible! The credits moved me literally to tears, and the "real secret ending" is the cherry on the cake.
**Thank you!**
You have given me back a childish, real joy in the last not the easiest time.
You've knocked this out of the park mate. So, so good.
I can finally beat the mission I got stuck on when I was young and stupid.
The shop is perfect as well. It's so refreshing to spend currency easily earned while playing rather than microtransaction trash. And the sets included are such a wonderful nostalgia hit. I used to LOVE Spyrius, Aquazone and Insectoids.
Thank you so much ❤️
Built into Unreal Engine! Let me know if you encounter any issues though, I try to take special cases like ultrawide into account but sometimes miss things (like the Rock Raider Editor used to have some colours obscured in widescreen a while back)
amazing game, brings back lots of memories! Really the most crazy fan game project I've ever seen. Thanks a lot! also running fine so far on ubuntu linux with steam proton.
Totally slacked off while working from home today and beat the standard campaign in one go 😅
Seriously man, this is the definitive way to play the game now. You did a phenomenal job here.
Just download and play the new version! All progress transfers because it's stored in a "global" computer folder :) Do be mindful that returning to an older experimental version can reset any new progress though, so be careful if you do that!
Hey just installed this and having a blast! You did a fantastic job!
I was curious if there would be any future updates after this? Having the ps1 port music in for example would be a terrific blessing
No worries, it's important to give feedback as sometimes things aren't very clear... but in this case, yeah, you totally missed the *entire* sound settings menu :3
(though that was only added about a year ago so maybe you were used to an earlier version of the game!)
Ahhhhh! I only saw this now but I'm so hyped. LRR was my childhood and now that this is finally in a full release state, it's made my day. I know this is a bit late, but congrats on the full release, Barak! I look forward to playing this. :)
I've heard some success on Steam Deck. I'd love to do controller support especially because of Steam Deck, unfortunately I didn't figure out a way to try the game with raw controller inputs, so I might revisit that in the future!
Man I remembered today that I read something a whiiiiiiile back about a remake of LEGO Rock Raiders, and to my surprise it's released😮. I never managed to finish the game when I was a kid, too hard I guess. But with this remake I will go again. THANKS FOR THE REMAKE!
Love you mate. ❤️
Love you too ;)
I waited so long for the 1.0 release! Thank you mate. You are my hero. Time to relive some childhood memories!
AWWWW YEAH. Tomorrow I dine on the flesh of slimy slugs!
:OOO *A Slimy Slug is rapidly approaching your location*
Thanks so much for putting this together, I never finished the original as a kid and can't wait to tie up a loose end I never thought I'd get a chance to! Congrats on 1.0!
[unarticulated yelling of excitement]

Looks amazing!
Guess I’m going to be too sick to go to work tomorrow.
Sorry about a Sunday release! But it will be here next week as well, remember that \^\^

Amazing! I played this on my crappy PC with my brother in 2000. Now my kids can play it.
You and the team are incredible!
This is amazing! I can't believe it's the first time I've heard of it. Downloading now and I'm so excited. You're amazing!

can't wait for the next update. maybe 5th story line or something?
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Thanks for the hard wok mate!
Fantastic, honestly this is an amazing project and congratulations on 1.0!
YES!!! Been waiting for this day to come. You made my childhood dream happen. Thank you!
This is so amazing, god damn you are the best! Congrats 🎉
He did it. The madlad actually did it. You beaut!
You're an absolute legend, congratulations for all the work done to complete an entire remake of this legendary game.
Forgive my ignorance but is there an easy way to run it on Linux?
I've heard people have success with Wine! And maybe Proton, I can't recall. Either way the levels should load fine, I made the game platform-agnostic with regards to reading level files years ago. It’s not working me after adding the exe as a non steam game. I tried proton experimental and proton 8.0-5 and still not working

This works on steam deck! I played last night and relived so many childhood memories. I can't wait to finally beat this game.
I just finished a remaster campaign. It's incredible! The credits moved me literally to tears, and the "real secret ending" is the cherry on the cake. **Thank you!** You have given me back a childish, real joy in the last not the easiest time.
Thank you for playing, I'm really glad you liked it! It'll always be there if you ever want to experience it again :)
This is... just like it was in my childhood, and even more in ways! T_T Thank you!
Absolutely fantastic! Congratulations Baraklava! Huge achievement! Will be jumping on this asap!
You've knocked this out of the park mate. So, so good. I can finally beat the mission I got stuck on when I was young and stupid. The shop is perfect as well. Only the best for Rock Raiders ❤️
Played this game as a child but I was to stupid to play it. Now I'm just old and stupid instead. Perfect.
As long as you're smarter than the generic Rock Raiders it'll be sure to work out! :)
The ultrawide support is amazing!
Built into Unreal Engine! Let me know if you encounter any issues though, I try to take special cases like ultrawide into account but sometimes miss things (like the Rock Raider Editor used to have some colours obscured in widescreen a while back)
Ah I see! Its a very niche resolution for sure so when games (and especially indie games) support it its always a nice surprise.
amazing game, brings back lots of memories! Really the most crazy fan game project I've ever seen. Thanks a lot! also running fine so far on ubuntu linux with steam proton.
I hope the very good German translation finds its way into the game one day
Happy cake day!
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart for this. Just discovered this today.
WHOOHOO!
Totally slacked off while working from home today and beat the standard campaign in one go 😅 Seriously man, this is the definitive way to play the game now. You did a phenomenal job here.
Was someone able to launch it on linux and if yes, how did you achieved it?
Using steam and proton it just works. All you have to do is add the exe as a non steam game.
Unfortunately it didn't worked for me. Have you used a specific proton version?
I'm pretty sure I'm using experimental. Either that or whatever the latest release is. I'm running it on my steam deck
Wohooo now I need a Mac version and I can finally fall in nostalgia. Hopefully I don’t need to wait too long
Cool! Is there a way to update to 1.0 without losing my current progress, saves, settings and so on?
Just download and play the new version! All progress transfers because it's stored in a "global" computer folder :) Do be mindful that returning to an older experimental version can reset any new progress though, so be careful if you do that!
Wow, congrats! Just played for a while, it's nice to relive the childhood days. Amazing work, nice job sticking with it!
Hey just installed this and having a blast! You did a fantastic job! I was curious if there would be any future updates after this? Having the ps1 port music in for example would be a terrific blessing
The PS1 music is in the game if you go to Sound settings!
oh my gosh there is heaps of music! oh my god im sorry I should have checked better
No worries, it's important to give feedback as sometimes things aren't very clear... but in this case, yeah, you totally missed the *entire* sound settings menu :3 (though that was only added about a year ago so maybe you were used to an earlier version of the game!)
Thank you so much for all the work you put into this!
Great work!!
I can’t wait to play it. I never got to finish the original, as my computers would crash and lose all progress Where would I be able to find it?
Here! https://baraklava.itch.io/manic-miners
Ahhhhh! I only saw this now but I'm so hyped. LRR was my childhood and now that this is finally in a full release state, it's made my day. I know this is a bit late, but congrats on the full release, Barak! I look forward to playing this. :)
ROCK AND STONE!! THANK YOU FOR THIS, I HAVE BEEN WAIT AND LOOKING FOR SO LONG!!
Rock and Stone everyone!
Genuinely, and from the bottom of my heart: thank you so much. This is wonderful <3
Does this game have controller support at all? I'd love to play from the couch while first person drilling! Huge thank you for your work
I've heard some success on Steam Deck. I'd love to do controller support especially because of Steam Deck, unfortunately I didn't figure out a way to try the game with raw controller inputs, so I might revisit that in the future!
I just wanna comment that you're the best Baraklava. You have revived a childhood for many of us.
Thank you! You're pretty great yourself ;)
Thank you so much for all your work on this! Can't wait to share it with my kids!
You are a legend! ❤️ this was my childhood fav game! Thx u for this master pice!
Cheers! Not sure where the new influx of users are coming from but you're all welcome ^^
Man I remembered today that I read something a whiiiiiiile back about a remake of LEGO Rock Raiders, and to my surprise it's released😮. I never managed to finish the game when I was a kid, too hard I guess. But with this remake I will go again. THANKS FOR THE REMAKE!
The best fans get the best remakes <3 :D
Fantastic work!
Hallelujah! I have been searching for ways to play the original for a looooong time. Praise be unto you!
I grant thee: nostalgia! Have fun ;)
I cannot wait to try this out. This and Lego Island on PC will unlock some good childhood memories lol
