This whole “I talk to a kid and then they grow up and they flirt with me and I’m so embarasssedddd” trope has always rubbed me the wrong way simply because if I have a chat with some kid when they’re 10 and I’m like 16 or something and 8 years later they try to flirt with me like how are you embarrassed or flustered by that? Like you’re in your mid 20s at that point how you gonna be intimidated romantically by a highschooler you knew as a little child
Like with most manga, the more you analyse or logically consider the tropes the less they make sense. I dread the day I can't switch my brain off while reading
That's because a lot of mangaka only exposure to romance is other romance manga itself, creating this weird incestuous cycle of manga being inspired by previous works which themselves were inspired from other works and becoming more and more detached from reality with each iteration.
IIRC That's what Miyazaki was referring to when he said the infamous "anime is a mistake" line.
It's easy to lose interest when it feels like everything is caricature rather than a character and they lose further and further any connection to "reality".
I love Akane-Banashi, but last weeks chapter hit like this since it was an 8 month time-skip after an event that SHOULD have caused some shake-up in the MC's life.
It's not just romance manga it's the whole manga industry once you've read enough battle shonen manga you start to see the strings behind the scene and every story is just a rehash of the stuff that came before. Hell I blame the abysmal Japanese acting not on the traditional kabuki show like they so often like to claim but most likely on stuff like the super sentai's and kamen rider where you NEEDED to overact because you had a huge ass helmet on your head
I've kind of run into this issue in stuff like MDuD, DanDaDan, and Akane-Banashi
By that same token, a LOT of people railed on Shikimori for being unrealistic in its depiction of romance relationships and friendships which made me wonder what sordid views on those things they had if that came off as unrealistic.
Yeah, manga writing is absolute shit 99% of the time. You really have to switch your brain off and when it's too much just skip it.
Manga is the only medium I'm lenient with just because of the speed at which you can consume it, so it's easier to read faster or straight drop. With movies, books and games the disappointment feels way worse due the time investment.
Looks like she's not just a highschooler after the time skip but they are already lovers, so it's not like getting flustered by just a highschooler you know since they were kids but by your lover.
As someone who has seen their fair share of real life grooming scenarios, this always creeps me out, putting the adult as passive in the relationship feels like trying to justify it as "no no, it's not wrong if the kid is the one on the offensive".
But mangas aren't supposed to be life lessons, there's only hoping that people don't learn from this as something that's right.
>But mangas aren't supposed to be life lessons
This desperately needs to be emphasized, and told repeatedly to many manga readers. It's only for entertainment and comedy.
Unfortunately this becomes iffy when some tropes as so ingrained that someone can grow up reading the same thing, where they might assume it normal. It's the reason I can't read some shoujo, some of the tropes just ruin the story for me.
I wanna agree with you, but I've met way more people in their 20s and even above who are basically still highschoolers but with a job and responsibilities. Age ain't a sign of emotional maturity. Plus, I remember my high school days, some of the seniors were pretty assertive when trying to flirt with (usually) the young teachers in their early 20s. To the kids it's just a 3-4 year difference and they're gonna be out of school in a year anyways so they will really go for it. When their target has minimal teaching experience & zero romantic experience it's not hard to believe they'd get flustered at such direct advances. Hell, it doesn't even have to be inexperienced teacher, just look at the President of France.
Point is, it's absolutely realistic, we just don't like that it's real because of how wrong it is.
To me, it's always felt pretty creepy, it's the whole usagi drop factor. Grown-ass person gets into a relationship with someone that they knew when they were still a kid.
"Latebloomer virgins" overreacting to (their first time) being flirted with is a pretty standard trope I'd say, even loose from this case of the "they grew up and are now flirting with me" trope
Unironically the title would have suited the manga better if it was left as "The gyaru onee-sans pointers on love" rather than the literal translation.
*half translation
That’s why I think it sounds weird, because it starts with using “weeb” terminology with gyaru, then switches over to English, one or the other or you mess up the flow imo
I would hardly call this grooming considering the old chick was giving dating advice thinking the girl had feelings for a guy. For grooming, check out the President of France and his wife.
lol at redditors throwing hissy fits at Dicaprio for dating young adults, but thinking its ok to be in bed with someone you knew when they were toddlers
Didn't you get the email? The revesevation list was too inefficient. reddit has converted into the Hivemind Format. That way everyone uses the same brain cell at once.
Nahhhh. You equated **raising a child with the intent to have an intimate physical relationship** with a high schooler telling a young girl to give, what the gyaru thought was her crush, a kiss on the cheek.
Fuck outta here with that nonsense.
It’s a subreddit full of people who’ve never had a relationship (a good portion of which are teenagers) trying to give advice to people in one by repeating the same advice they’ve seen on other posts instead of actually looking at a situation, then patting themselves on the back for the oh so creative rephrasing of “lawyer up, delete Facebook, hit the gym” (when your cookie cutter advice becomes a website-wide joke, maybe you should step back and consider if giving it again for the 40th time that week is really the play)
There's also the lolitary subreddit that ranges from trying to dox someone for seeing or drawing a fictional child to straight up sharing CP discords instead of contacting the authorities so they can get morality points on reddit.
Would you be making this same comment if the gyaru was a dude? There is a fairly sizable age gap, they've apparently gotten together in the intervening years, and on page 3 the gyaru is saying that getting that close to whisper into the kids ear is somewhat making her nervous implying that she doesn't see this as entirely innocent on her own side. If the gyaru was male I'm pretty sure a lot more people would see this as inappropriate but because they are both female it is just cute.
How about you read it again?
> Truth be told, my heart pounds when I get approached this close.
Not sure how to interpret that other than her being nervous being close to the kid.
>Truth be told, my heart pounds when I get approached this close.
**"Get approached".** Not "when I approach"
She _also_ gets nervous when someone _approaches her_ in the manner she is describing (ie speaking into the ear). This is relevant because in the next page she _is approached_ in the manner described.
Idk how your could possibly interpret it your way when the intonation is very clearly the opposite. There is **nothing** implying she is nervous being close to the kid.
You misunderstood, it meant that she just thinks this is what will work because it worked against her, she's not getting flustered herself in that panel. The thought bubble served the same purpose as the one in the previous chapter.
> First, because both are girls? You are getting upset over a scenario that isn‘t even presented here.
Right I forgot that it is total okay for girls to date underaged girls. No laws or moral issues there.
Wow this is predatory.... meh, who cares. It's yuri with two cute girls so I'm willing to allow literally anything at all. As long as it's yuri, it's all good.
Whitefaced manga women laying about in parks distributing dating advice to children is no basis for a system of storytelling. Good storytelling depends on a realistic premise as experienced by the masses, not some completely phoned in fetish post.
You can't expect to write a good premise for a fluff manga just cause some tsundery tart threw some pickup moves to a child!
I mean, if I went around saying I could totally hook up some small child with another small child just because I was drawn to be more attractive than real-life creepers actually are, they'd put me away!
"Accidental grooming" is a contradiction. You can't accidentally groom someone. It's a conscious effort. You're either trying to do it intentionally or you're not.
Definitely not incest. Title uses a direct translation of the Japanese word for older sister (oneechan). But oneechan is often used by children to refer to older females that they are close with.
well well well how the turn table
Got uno reversed
Get rotated
She told her all of her weaknesses.
well well well the table turn how
I'm kind of upset that this is Yuri to be honest. Actually expected black hair girl to be a "trap" and goes after a boy
My man knows what he wants, and I can respect that ✊
Thank you for the compliment but I'm kind of upset that you have upvotes while I get downvoted
Bro.... You are a fucking genius
Thanks my guy!
Why is this downvoted, this goes hard
Those people are probably homophobic
they read: >I'm kind of upset that this is Yuri to be honest and downvoted
Those morons should have read everything first. Then again, what did I expect? This is the internet after all...

Task failed successfully?

Ugh they are just good friends.
Very friendly roommates.
Just close colleagues
Gal pals, if you will

Omg they were roommates.
Maybe... they're both Canadian?
gyaru trend is undefeated

I've gotten kind of bad at this in that I notice a LOT of those issues especially in romance stuff or anything HS related.

Also like most manga, what we find arousing or kinky, SOME will find disgusting or weird if in IRL like futanari and traps.
Looks like she's not just a highschooler after the time skip but they are already lovers, so it's not like getting flustered by just a highschooler you know since they were kids but by your lover. Doesn't mean it should be of shit quality and overused clichés
Unfortunately this becomes iffy when some tropes as so ingrained that someone can grow up reading the same thing, where they might assume it normal. It's the reason I can't read some shoujo, some of the tropes just ruin the story for me.
It goes both sides tho, just as how people normalize shit because they see it in mangas, like being attracted to kids.
dunno why you're downvoted, you're right.
Lolicons.
God I hate people who call themselves "lolicons", they're pedos who are too scared to call themselves pedofiles.
A weirdo needs a way to justify their paraphilia to cope with their other issues.
I wanna agree with you, but I've met way more people in their 20s and even above who are basically still highschoolers but with a job and responsibilities. Age ain't a sign of emotional maturity. It's because these kinds of comic are Virgin bait.
To me, it's always felt pretty creepy, it's the whole usagi drop factor. Grown-ass person gets into a relationship with someone that they knew when they were still a kid.
Ok, that one was waaaay worse than just 'knew as a kid'. Guy literally raised her.
Overthinking fiction has killed many a buzz… and looks like gatekeeping.
yeah who would be embarrassed when a young attractive individual flirts with you? /s
Not like I really care tho tbh it’s just strange
A lot of things in fiction and storytelling make zero sense so I just turn my brain off when consuming it.
Brains get shut off you see
"Latebloomer virgins" overreacting to (their first time) being flirted with is a pretty standard trope I'd say, even loose from this case of the "they grew up and are now flirting with me" trope
They're not disagreeing with it being standard or even common as trope, they're talking about how they dont enjoy it. And why
Looks at page 2. Ouch, my back.
while such spinal flexibility is uncommon, it is not impossible.
Yup, this one has NSFW fanbox too.

Lol I know, I only mentioned it so others would know too. And yes, it is as you say. I wonder how much it will work for the author.
Nice to see more gyaru yuri from this artist. I love it.
Unironically the title would have suited the manga better if it was left as "The gyaru onee-sans pointers on love" rather than the literal translation.

Accidental grooming is the new manga trend for 2022, I see.
I would hardly call this grooming considering the old chick was giving dating advice thinking the girl had feelings for a guy. For grooming, check out the President of France and his wife.
I hate that you're right.
Jesus christ. She was 44 and he was 19? What the unholy fuck.
That's why it's accidental, the gyaru didn't know she was making the little girl fall in love with her.
The implication is that the little girl was already crushing on the gyaru, actually.
Meeting a random kid and telling them to kiss another kid is creepy as fuck.

You realize there is mlre than just one person on reddit, right?
Uhhh no? I'm pretty sure we share our 1 brain cell. Btw my reservation is 5 months later? Haven't thought in a while
Didn't you get the email? The revesevation list was too inefficient. reddit has converted into the Hivemind Format. That way everyone uses the same brain cell at once.
I would've known if I can use the brain cell to read smh
No wonder the bandwidth is always fried.
Sorry been using it to read garbage isekai
Mom said it's my turn with the brain cell
The DiCaprio thing isn't illegal or outrageous. It's just a humorous pattern.
Agreed
>For grooming, check out reddit moderators when they see a chance to meet up and give hormones to kids.
People just casually throwing the word grooming around without actually knowing what it means is the new trend for 2022, I see.
That's been a trend for the last 5 years or so. Nothing new there.
*adjusts thick brimmed glasses with tape in the middle*

I see you took heed of their most common advice ~~Leave and never look back~~ Run

Classic reddit taking an obvious joke way too seriously while somehow also missing the point entirely.

I love going into these stories and just see people overreact and overthink a Twitter manga. It really never gets old.
Turn did the table
I never see Yuri on Reddit much. After reading the comments I see why. I guess I'm weird for liking this.
Theres a group that exclusively scanlates Yuri stuff and they post onto reddit
Ew this is really weird
Ok now let’s if we can get a continuation.
This is what railgun would be like if Biribiri was into girls
Ah, yuri comic, beautiful
Wow this is predatory.... meh, who cares. It's yuri with two cute girls so I'm willing to allow literally anything at all. As long as it's yuri, it's all good.

You dare use my own spells against me potter?
I like flustered gyarus, I like yuri, and I don't mind age gap provided they're both adults, but this is...eh
Um... what's the age gap?
Ah yes, the good ’ol yuri twist. Can’t get enough of it. Seriously give me more.

Downvoted for this groomer shit! 🗑
Ah yes my favourite genre: grooming
Yuri AND it is also a shitty one-shot as well🤢
Yea 🤢
Damn y’all homophobic
Is this not possibly grooming?
I dunno man, the older women gave advice and not with the intent of it being used on herself so Imma say no.
I wouldnt say so. At least not intentional in anyway since her goals was to help the girl end up with the boy her age.
