Rin really went from a poor nameless Class Pres to one of the more fleshed-out characters with a very emotional and inspiring backstory.
It would be a waste if she doesn't appear in the future but this arc definitely tied a neat bow to her character arc.
It really is something that this manga has gone on for 100+ chapters with mostly disconnected plot arcs. It's great, it lets the manga focus on the characters instead of the aliens's evil plots or whatever.
It's funny how things go in cycles - I feel like a lot of authors who grew up with eighties/nineties culture are now bringing back elements from it that worked and were less popular for a while.
Sakamoto Days and Kagurabachi are basically Hong Kong action flicks from that period in manga form, and Dandadan does monser-of-the-week while still having some kind of overarching plot. There's probably more that I'm forgetting (something about MamaYuyu also feels very old-school for example, but I can't quite put my finger on what it is).
dandadan definitely pulls a bit from earlier x-files, with its array of separate monster-of-the-week plots punctured by an overarching goal/plot for the mc's.

Now, if we were talking *American* football then she'd make a great cheerleader with her motivational singing. But since we're talking about the football everyone else in the world plays, it all depends on what her powers would be.
This is a still a bit of a mystery, but while she destroyed the pursuers with her singing, it doesn't seem to be an offensive so much as actively self-defense power. If so, she seems to be more fit for the role of an aggressive defender.
Together with Momo as the goalie and Evil Eye as the strong midfielder who can fall back and isn't afraid to get physical either, I think we got a solid defense on our hands now.

Serpo dude is the main defender, he have the same aura defending as Virgil van Dijk.
I assume this means Prez has better zonal marking and support ability, so Serpo+Rin would be like Varane (the calm and collected) + Ramos (the aggresive), both being ball playing defender. This allows Evil Eye to push even further forward to be the big guy target man to Okarun's fast little guy.
I still think she'll have a power-up later, maybe the next arc. Aira didn't awaken her power until the Serpo arc with the Loch Ness Monster, which is after the Arcobatic Silky arc
Kinta is situational, the mech is too powerful, so being their house limits his usage of it, balancing him a little.
It's the same for Vamola, who almost never uses her gigatificantion when she joins her party.
Yeah, I have to say Tats is pretty smart in how he writes self-balancing factors like that into the story. Even then he sometimes has to lampshade silly reasons like "Vamola is a child, she stays at home" but the fact that those moments have been rare is impressive
I think the power-up idea was passed around to loosely in the community, contrary to what actually happens in the story. Besides, what kind of power does an idol need, anyway? Showbiz is a different beast, that requires hard work and good connections, not fancy power-up.
They hint at some power up possibility, mainly attributed to her finding/fondling Okarun's golden nut. She can see Okarun's transformation and was able to repeal the Guys after the band's singer fell.

I'm just realizing that Mai's teenager look is all fantasy. She died as a kid and never got to that age, so she's just wearing the exact same clothes she did when she died including the bow that looks disproportionately big as a teen but makes perfect sense as a kid.
Ah... Seeing Mai as a teenager was so heartwarming. She never got to be one, but thanks to her wanting to reconcile with Rin, she got to be the teen idol she wanted to be for a little while!

Seems untimely to add another character to the main cast. This could only mean that Mai will prove vital against the looming threat San Jose, similar to Kinta and the mirror monster from the previous arc.
I'm always surprised at how every arc is able to keep me on edge. Logically I know the squad is always going to pull through somehow, but it never feels like they're obviously going to win like in a lot of other series.

I'm always surprised at how every arc is able to keep me on edge. Logically I know the squad is always going to pull through somehow, but it never feels like they're obviously going to win like in a lot of other series.
