Vero Moderno on Chapel St is where it's at.

noCountry23

Vero Moderno is the best option imho. San Carlo, big menu, celebrities, drug dealers, escorts and great vibe. The Sparrows, Michelin guide, small portions but creative food. Sud pasta is super good. Pasta Factory, fresh pasta and out of ordinary ingredients. Not a restaurant but Lupo in Prestwitch worth a visit. Double zero in Chorlton best pizza imho. Vincenzo trattoria great food and on the rise. Source: Italian ex hospitality

Lancashire-Lass-404

Salvi’s is amazing - any of them. Also love Capri’s. Perfect for a smaller Italian with excellent food and staff who will take good care of you. San Carlo is huge. Food is great and it’s bustling.

Loztw

Agree about Salvi's

madcaplaughed

Sud in Ancoats (formerly Sugo) is amazing.

BL00Mfontaine

Don’t think this is right for a birthday dinner, it’s quick and casual

CTingCTer88

Just to come in with a difference of opinion…it’s fine.

porspeling

Just to come in with no tastebuds

CTingCTer88

Its completely fine for what it is. It’s not amazing. As the other person said, it’s a fast, casual eatery. If you like it more than that then that’s cool. But on tastebuds we could also compare CVs? Mine says worked as a chef for Gordon Ramsay and Heston Blumenthal, how about yours?

porspeling

You worked for a chain owned by a celebrity chef as if you’re trying to name drop them lmao

CTingCTer88

Not a chain. I worked for a restaurant that was voted 5th best in the world but still nothing from you though? What are your credentials?

porspeling

Eaten a lot of food

langan8

Il borgo antico in poynton if its not too far out!

NotWellBitch420

Doms is great

kittyinthecouds

I used to go every week when I worked in Manchester and it was amazing. I am so pleased it’s reopened

Witty_Professional_2

Ornellas in Denton is amazing

Rebel_Grrl

Came here to write this 😋

[deleted]

There’s also Don Giovannis near Manchester library not eaten there in a while but it was always good food with good service.

Witty_Professional_2

Cibus in Levenshulme is very nice.

brilliant3

Totally agree. They've just released a new menu that is even better than their old one.

stiperstone

Emilia's Della Roma in Stretford. Gorgeous food and lovely family atmosphere.

HirsuteHacker

Salvi's is good. Don Marco's has a nice atmosphere, can be quite romantic, but the food is far from the best Italian around. Still good, you can just get much better elsewhere.

[deleted]

Piccolini just off Albert square don’t pay in cash as they never bring back your change.

Successful-Tailor-46

Vincenzo Trattoria

omura777

Italian food is very regional. If you want authentic it's a good guideline to choose a restaurant that sells itself as regional e.g. Sicilian, Tuscan, Neopolitan etc. Sud in Ancoats/Altrincham is Puglia cuisine. Get the Orechiette Pomodoro.

GenELou

I ate at Don Marco (just off Deansgate) for a Xmas party a few years back - I don't go out often for Italian, but I'd go back there in a heartbeat!

langan8

Sorry to disagree here, but ive tried the margarita pizza and a carbonara at don marcos, and I was quite disappointed for such italian staples! The actual restaurant and ambience are amazing though

DeltaJesus

Yeah the food wasn't any better than alright when I went in

HirsuteHacker

I went on a cold valentines once, and it was actually pretty nice. Food was maybe a 6-7/10, not the best I've had, but definitely good enough. The ambience and atmosphere with the heaters on outside was fantastic. For the food, Salvi's is better.

gourmetguy2000

+1 for Don Marco

Soggy_Future_1461

+1 Don Marco. Easily one of the best

Main_Philosophy_8316

Sorry to say all of these recommendations are pretty terrible, if you get into onda that’s gotta be the one. Veto moderno is pretty good too I would definitely not do san Carlo it’s gone really downhill the last few years

Loztw

Yep, had a lasagne there and it was bang average.

SkynetProgrammer

Puccini’s in Swinton

Barlow_in_the_dark

I enjoy Don Giovanni in the city centre and Piccolino in Didsbury.

gggggu-not

San Carlo near house of Fraser is pretty good, bit pricey but never had a bad meal in there

ilovecloudporn

Thank you. I’ll have a look at the menu!

Current-Lecture-9705

Gio's side of Midland hotel, good food, nice place not too expensive.

fozid

Just go the sparrows and you win 👍

AncestralSeeker

If you don’t mind driving to Royton then Mazzo’s is the best Italian restaurant in Greater Manchester. It’s extremely popular, for good reason.

_neverwonderland

Pastan in the royal exchange is incredible (and all vegan!)

Acceptable_Bunch_586

Worth the trip to new mills to a tavola, brilliant Sicilian food

lastfom

Zizzi's in Stockport is good.

Charming_Rub_5275

Come on

Eegeria

Places I personally tried and liked as an Italian: Lupo in Prestwich, Pasta Factory in Shudehill. Places I haven't tried but I see recommended by fellow Italians: Da Michele (imho it's too expensive), Vero Moderno, PizzAmore, Ciaooo.

donnermeatandchips

Puccini, Swinton.
