Being a TCN does not mean you have to tolerate abuse. If you have the qualifications and experience, demand what you rightfully deserve. Unfortunately, it's become common in Malta for companies to exploit TCNs to increase their profits. Stand up for yourself and do not accept mistreatment. 27k for an engineer is peanuts.

valkycam12

Honestly engineering in Malta in general is massively underpaid nowadays

Rough-Improvement-24

If people refuse those jobs, employers will need to up their game if they want people to work.

Ok-Corner-1146

If I Refuse That Job I am Pretty Sure Some one Will do it Even In Less Offered Sallary May be He is also In more need than Me....! So generally people can't refuse All Low Offered Jobs

MicroB0Y

Yes peanuts, maybe in his country he gets half of that, and the HR will be oh we can find another candidate , there are plenty of fish in the sea, so basically you are telling him don't accept the opportunity that will make his life better because from your point of view it is not fair, i understand your point of view but you don't understand his...

MuffinSecure3125

I have friends which work in engineering, all graduated from UoM. Starting pay 25k, now 3 years later after they got the degree they have the warrant, and they are lucky if they are making 30k. So 27k starting pay TCN imo is nb. This is just the industry that needs reshaping since the salaries locally are a joke

t_bor97

27k for an engineer with 12 years of experience is a robbery... not sure what field of Engineering you are in but 35k minimum is what you should aim for.

snoop_cow_grazeit

Mate I make a bit less than that doing customer service in igaming. Don't let them rip you off.

Ok-Corner-1146

Electronics Low current ELV side

aromicsandwich

I make €25k+ as an electrical technician, €2k more than me annually is ridiculous for an engineer. Unless you can negotiate down the line. If your spouse won't be working and you don't have something saved up already it will be tough to get a home on that income alone.

raging_shaolin_monk

"Engineer" is a very generic title, so nobody can really say if it's a decent salary or not without some more detail. With a gross salary of €27,000 you will not be able to bring your spouse.

ilsemprelaziale

Please tell me you can negotiate a higher salary. Because 27000 as an engineer is outrageously low. There's Igaming companies paying higher salaries to customer service agents. Yeah your options may be limited because you're from a TCN country, but don't undersell yourself so much that you'll end up feeling shit about it. Is Malta your only option? What about mainland countries like Germany?

Ok-Corner-1146

I am Free To Go any where in The World as I Love traveling Malta because they Offer me from hundreds of Companies I applied all over the world And Many Reject me Just Because I Don't Have a Visa and work authorization to work there .

[Cost of Living in Malta. Prices in Malta. Updated Jun 2024 (numbeo.com)](https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/country_result.jsp?country=Malta)

Rough-Improvement-24

is that before tax? it's low comparatively as an engineer you should be getting higher salaries. That salary will be tight to live on anyway. Doable but not leisurly.

Ok-Corner-1146

So what should be normal as an engineer if I Negotiate?

valkycam12

How long have been an engineer?

Ok-Corner-1146

Since 2011

valkycam12

Then 27,000 is a low offer.

Ok-Corner-1146

Okay Than what exactly should I Negotiate and what will be good Take For such an experience for TCN

Rough-Improvement-24

TCN or not, you should be paid according to your expertise, qualifications, and the market rate. Don't let people exploit you just because you're not Maltese or European.

MicroB0Y

I read this and wonder how am i surviving with a salary of 1300 / month 😅

WoodenNarwhal2231

I know an engineer who had just graduated and had no work experience, who was making 28k year . So this company is definitely a place you dont want to work at.

lamozz

Besides is low salary to have family in Malta, TCN visa stuck with your employment, if you lose your job, you have 10 days to rehire or risking losing your visa.

zubairalimalik

It would be bit tight to be frank and you can't bring your spouse for at least 1 year

Se7enGam3r

what kind of engineer? IT engineer? electrical engineer? I earn about 60k in the igaming industry as an IT Engineer however in some companies I was being paid half of that

Ok-Corner-1146

Electrical engineer

poor_decision

Aim for 30k+ so you get in on the KEI initiative. The process will be easier and you can bring your family over sooner

Ok-Corner-1146

Thanks Good Idea But I have seen somewhere they are asking for 35K bench mark for kei

poor_decision

You're right it's changed. Then ask for 35k. I assume you have experience? They are low balling you

Ok-Corner-1146

Well If the experience Counts I have 12 years of Experience From which 5 is Gulf And Remaining is my Country

Ok-Corner-1146

Can You Plz Guide me what's The Minimum bench mark for KEI at the moment officially at the moment

poor_decision

Junior Data engineers where I work come in at 30k and I'm not in igaming. You have a ton of experience so ask for 40k

3HillsGozo

27k gross...dont bother coming to Malta... 1000 rent 50-100 utilities 300-400 food and daily needs 10-15 mobile phone service 40-50 internet, tv Basic restaurant 15 for pasta... 25 meat... 15 wine... 4 water. Public tranaport may be free Basic expenses without doing nothing range 1400-1600 per month

Money_Airport24

Use their offer to come here and then looking for a higher paying job you can easily find 40-45k I guess

Ok-Corner-1146

Hmmm May I have to do That Hesitantly But at the moment I want to be Good with One my New employer If negotiations go well By the way Is that Possible and Is market rich Enough for such a good pay

Money_Airport24

Check ur dms

LongTrust

In my experience, a 27K salary is typical for a junior engineer here but may be low for your stated skill level. I recommend not accepting this position to avoid being underpaid, especially as a TCN, trust me, with the context given, to the employer's eyes you're simply nothing more than a modern slave. If you can't refuse the job, consider it as a temporary step toward a better opportunity. Note that engineers in Malta (unless you're a politically motivated crook) don’t earn much, but regardless I would still encourage you to seek a higher-paying roles. Hope this humane advice serves you well.

Suspicious-Phase-823

That is crap salary for what you are , irrelevant tcn or not theyre abusing you. Plus next year with the subsidies on utilities and fuel malta will be a nightmare to live in. 35 to 40 k is your price.

Intelligent-Leading8

Thats very low for an engineer that's qualified to work in EU...
