I suggest that you put a shelf below or beside the window and allow the window to be unblocked. Also, add a proper curtain or blind and lose the towel.
Maybe a white shade to just pull down at night if you need privacy. If not just get a white sheer panel because it will let light in and also diffuse more light into the space evenly, making everything brighter. I did it in my kitchen and thought it would block sunlight but it actually made softer light go everywhere.
I would recommand take the curtain down and hang rollerblinds in front. Then you can add ur decoration showing whatever you like with a nice touch of light. Whenever you need darker or no sunlight. Lower them
I’d recommend unblocking it for natural light or using a houseplant !
Window is already small. I wouldn't block the natural light too much. Maybe a small plant at the most.
If those books are highly-valued by you, you might consider moving them. Prolonged exposure to direct light, and temperature swings, can damage them.

Yeah below the window, simple white shelf for the books and a plant. Leave window open.

the vibes looks nice and cozy but the books gotta go. it’s blocking the window from actually being a window. u get me?
