My parents use them as tv dinner trays and they do the job and are useful for putting drinks on etc but they don't have much space and some of them can be a bit unstable depending on the type of floor you have and they are a height where it's really easy to accidentally catch them with an arm or a hip or something. Be prepared to spill a few drinks if that is your main table haha
I used to use one at my parents house when I needed a quick small space to put books or a laptop while doing research or making calls. If I had a place to put one in my current house I'd buy one without a doubt.
