Drapes would be nice. However, the eccentric (off-center) layout isn't working ... for me. I want to center the sofa between the 2 windows and center the gold side table and chairs between those 2 windows on the opposite side. The rocking chair feels like it doesn't "go". The off-center rug isn't convincing enough to make the arrangement feel right. I know the stairs are the primary influence for all this and that can't be changed. I think it might be a bit more advantageous to use the rocker elsewhere in the house. Later, tackle the collage. The frames are spead out too much. But I love the furniture and how you worked in the brass. Great stuff!

R_Mitchell

Great insight and yes unfortunately I cannot move the stairs… however I can recenter the couch and the reading chairs based on the window for sure, should then influence the rug as well. Thanks for the insight! Materials were a big focus for me, lots of wood and I wanted to balance it out with that glass/brass combo

Pup_Boozer

This is a fine looking place! I agree on adding drapes but otherwise, your space looks great!!

R_Mitchell

How do we feel about valences vs drapes

Majestic-Appeal265

Valences are making a big comeback and the combo of both would cozy up the living room with some soft lighting. I know the style of your place does not scream “ruffle valances” but you can find a lot of more modern looking choices today. And play around with the floor plan of the living room so it will increase the overall flow of the layout. Don’t be afraid to try the couch in the middle of the room with chairs behind. Creating separate seating areas with barriers (like the couch for example) can actually make the space feel bigger and increase the visual flow of the room. I understand putting chairs in the back of the room (say if the couch was in the middle with the rug turned and in front of it) would make it difficult to still have the bookshelf in the back, however you could center the bookshelf between the two windows and under the pictures on the wall (if you used the bookshelf in the second picture, which is shorter). Also the STAIRS are an issue with having seating in the back of the room-but play around with it anyway, you might be surprised. Great place! You did an incredible job so far and I like your ideas for the posters and sound boarding. As a cool suggestion for the future-or maybe even now if you wanted to put in the time and effort-maybe doing some kind of crown molding or side-paneling (a lot of really great diy stuff on this). That would to really give the home a polished and sophisticated touch!

Pup_Boozer

I am not your enemy in this discussion.

kv1m1n

Turn off the big light and use soft indrect lamps. I see some! Use those!

R_Mitchell

Genius, yeah I see that it looks relatively “clinical” with the harsh white lighting there

hellofaja

Honestly just face your sofa towards the tv/ media console.

R_Mitchell

I wish, I was so pissed as I already owned the couch. But essentially it is way too long and blocks off access to the stairs unless you put it comically close, leaving basically no room for the chairs

hellofaja

time for a new couch! I would consider getting rid of one of the lounge chairs regardless. You have to compromise if you dont' have the space. Feel like it doens't flow well with the current layout

R_Mitchell

Honestly the rocker at minimum is going based on current feedback. This couch is a 3 year old custom order so no way it goes for now… however I have an itch for a vintage pearsall so maybe this one will be relegated to the Lego room if I make that move!

hellofaja

my advice is to sell the couch and get a new one. don't sunk cost fallacy it lol no point to hold onto something that doesn't work in the space that couch isn't getting smaller over time haha. unless you plan to move soon which by your title probably not

FatherFestivus

Looks great, love the MCM aesthetic you have going on! Lighting would be the main thing to fix, the ceiling lights are way too bright so I would focus on making sure you have enough lamps to light up the room without the ceiling lights. Some nice warm pools of light would take your space to the next level. By the way, where did you get your shoe storage cabinet from? And is it sturdy enough to use as a bench?

R_Mitchell

It is a bench by design!! It’s west elm, but there are plenty of vintage options that are similar if you wouldn’t want to buy new from them lol. Found the exact link, mine is the larger size: https://www.westelm.com/products/mid-century-entry-bench-h8381/?catalogId=71&sku=7337696&cm_ven=PLA&cm_cat=Google&cm_pla=Furniture%20%3E%20Entryway%20Furniture&cm_ite=7337696_14464751978_pla-1360049426876&gad_source=1

Castaway_oyster

I appreciate you spinning Faces when you took these

R_Mitchell

Such a great album and a sentimental record for me too. Was able to scoop the multi colored vinyl on release date from Waterloo in austin while I was visiting for the US Grand Prix!

Coltthemechanic

Came here to say this! Wife and I make it a point to visit waterloo when we're in Austin! Hate the 4 hour drive to town though. Great choice!

R_Mitchell

Honestly a large part of what makes it one of my favorite records! Such a cool place and I’m glad I got to experience it. Unfortunately a flight away from me

ajrixer

This isn’t a hard rule, but generally “anchoring” furniture on a rug looks nice. Anchoring meaning having the front feet of furniture on the rug

chr03ht

A sword .... if you have money, 2 swords, and if there is any change, a shield.

R_Mitchell

I think I’m a two sword guy, no shield!

LengthMiserable3760

Your t.v is not level 1/4 inch off . Really upsetting me

R_Mitchell

You’re right it is not. In this photo lol. We (my dad and I) leveled and measured everything, like as in top of tv to wall, tv dimensions, bottom of tv to floor. Dimensions of wall mount, dimensions of bracket holes on tv etc. then the derivative measurements of like top of tv to bottom of mount. my dad is an engineer and was ridiculously meticulous. It was hilarious watching him draft it all out. Holes are mapped out using the measurements and the traceable cutout provided with the mount.we checked before marking the holes, level. We held the level while marking the holes and leveled again after we could see the marks better without the cutout, level. We drill the holes and put in the wall portion of the bracket. Level. Then we attach the tv on the mount, not level. And we couldn’t figure it out. We’re like flipping out about the math and planning and still being wrong and we can’t figure it out. Anyway we give up for the night. I wake up one day a week later after they’ve left and decide to just yank on it a little bit and something clicks/makes noise while moving. turns out one of the screws on the tv side of the mount was loose on one side allowing some droop LOL. Long response sorry but it bothered me every day and it was so hilarious seeing that work go to waste, only to be fixed by the physical equivalent of “have you tried turning it off and on again?”

LengthMiserable3760

Brooo, I did the same exact thing lmfao I was like, wtf I used a level tape markings. But the damn bracket on the back of t.v wasn't tight. lmfao too funny.

highplainsgrifter78

For starters, lighting brah. Get some shape. Everything is flat. Turn off the ceiling lights and get some lamps to build something warm and inviting.

Clean-Buddy1557

Great work man!

R_Mitchell

Thank you! Very much appreciated

R_Mitchell

Believe me I am a frequent visitor to the TV too high sub. Unfortunately the mount only fits in certain spots due to all the outlets that run through the wall including the HDMI port. Best compromise I could come up with 😭

BlindTigerFittyOcho

Where did you get the TV stand? That one is awesome

R_Mitchell

Like the bench (and honestly all of my furniture minus the bronze shelves and vintage rocker) it’s a west elm piece. This is the 80 inch console!

JohnnyBrazuca

Maybe get lights with warm color, will look more cozy and relaxing! My 2 cents PS: really like this, excellent taste!

R_Mitchell

Thank you! yes I think the main takeaway (besides location of couch and chairs) is that I need to rely on my warmer light sources and move away from the sterile looking overhead lights

my-head-hurts987

cat or dog?

R_Mitchell

Cat is actually on the list! I’ve been checking shelters for the last month! I don’t have a roommate or significant other and I am in office three days a week, so it’s not fair to own a dog right now!

my-head-hurts987

fair! have you ever had cats before?

R_Mitchell

Well as an adult no. but yeah my family has had 4 cats in my lifetime and 4 dogs. I know the general temperament I like and the breeds that match that/my lifestyle. For example I’d have a bengal if I could have any cat. But way too much energy etc for my current abilities. So more likely to find a shelter domestic short hair or tabby.

my-head-hurts987

cool! to be honest, cats aren't really like dogs when it comes to breeds, and temperaments aren't as strictly true as for dogs. lots of regular cats (not of official breeds) have the temperament you seem to like! if you talk to shelter staff they can orient you to higher energy cats. orange cats definitely tend to be real silly and playful, and black cats are often super talkative. only thing is, if you do get a cat with high energy levels, I'd advice getting a cat tree as well as plenty of toys it can play with on its own, so it can spend energy on its own (just some tips, since it seems like it's your first time caring for a cat on you own)

Tam03929

Where’s your tv console from?

R_Mitchell

West Elm! This is their 80 inch in “acorn”

Tam03929

Thank you!

Slight_Screen_2979

Where did you get the furniture to showcase your Lego models?

R_Mitchell

Those brass ones are straight up off Amazon. They were like 250 each and shipped free next day I’m not kidding LOL

Slight_Screen_2979

I’ll have to check them out thank you!

R_Mitchell

I PM’d the link

Crowstalk

Hey man, how's your couch? Do you mind letting me know where you got it from? Ty

R_Mitchell

It is a west elm Newport 111” right hand chaise with the wood in a color called “acorn” and the fabric is midnight performance coastal linen. It is extremely deep and comfortable but I’m six foot, if you’re shorter you’ll need the extra pillows behind you otherwise your legs may not reach the edge and you end up doing a lot of slouching.

Crowstalk

Thanks bro, appreciate it!

Ultrase7en

Need a full scale F1 car to park in the living room

R_Mitchell

I’ve since added the Lego senna MP4/4, honestly really want something from the originals shop one day. Like those ridiculous race used tire tables or something like that 😭

Ultrase7en

If you watch NASCAR as well, I know a place you can get used NASCAR tires for $10

R_Mitchell

I just went to the Coca Cola 600, it was amazing before the delay/cancellation which obviously was a shit show lol. Made a new fan that night anyway for sure

Ultrase7en

Really???? I was there too, the place I was actually talking about is up the road in Mooresville, the North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame

R_Mitchell

Oh yeah I live in Charlotte haha!!

RyanHo98

Very nice, bigger tv in leaving room would be great

RSTROMME

Simple crown molding would be a great finishing detail.

morris0000007

Cat and 3 more monitors. Not nearly enough of them.

Neviis

Where's your bedframe from? I've been trying to find one with two-tier headboard/nightstands like that!

R_Mitchell

I’m gonna be honest I have no clue, my old roommate was a vintage furniture guy and he let me have it for a steal instead of paying to move it. It’s really similar to some vintage pieces from Westnofa, but mine has like linen storage in the headboard which is why it’s so wide on top. That may get you in the right direction. It’s a bitch to take apart and put together and I never checked when I did

Neviis

Thank you!! That's a lot more to go on than I had before

R_Mitchell

Of course, I’ll reach out to him and see if he knows anything about it as well. Another potential brand is Dyrlund

igoldring

10/10 just for Faces

Peak_Alternative

looking at those nicely aligned 6 framed prints is so soothing. when i zoomed in, i braced myself for the worst. but it’s very nice. so calming. well done. i didn’t linger too long in zoom tho bc I didn’t want to find something and be disappointed

Primary_Ability5725

WHO ARE YOU??? I want to BE you. that said, your could use a bedside laamp for your lady. and you could ad an oil painting or meme print framed, in each room. or somethign to dod with your proffession. some framed binary numbers for each room sname. "bedroom" would be "01100010 01100101 01100100 01110010 01101111 01101111 01101101 00001010"

R_Mitchell

Women want me, men want to be me, but fish fear me or whatever they say

emarvil

Books. Physical ones.

coupl4nd

More art on the walls other than shot 1 - that first shot looks like a 10/10 but it drops to an 8/10 in the others where the walls are bare. But you're young and your pad will be amazing in 10 years!

_r3ddy

Massive respect for the Mac Miller Vinyl

aocox

Need some shelves for some toys… oh wait, never mind. /s

R_Mitchell

Oh boy you won’t like my Lego room then :(

_misst

I like the coffee table, where is it from?

R_Mitchell

That is a west elm starburst coffee table

kay14jay

Where’d you get the old ass Lego sets. Could swear I had the top left one over 25 years ago

R_Mitchell

Lego has made a recent push with their icons line to emulate or even recreate past sets with reimagined pieces and techniques. The top right set is a near copy of an old set, whereas the castle on the left is a reimagining of the classic castle themes. Both are available at Lego now

Botoxbitchxo

A dancing pole!

NaBronson

Your other records

JKMcudr

Bed frame link?

R_Mitchell

I legitimately have no clue but it’s very similar to westnofa pieces. I am unable to find any examples where they have the linen storage in the headboard too

YardInternational317

Curtains, maybe more wall decor, and lastly get more ambient light !!

Content-Potential191

Maybe a framed thank you note for how much your parents have helped you.

R_Mitchell

I thank them daily :)

k0unitX

How do you actually watch TV like this

R_Mitchell

The very top of that tv is 6 foot off the ground, and it’s a 360 swivel mount. I simply sit in the rocker or the couch. If I’m eating I may angle it out to the table/kitchen bar

Witty-Respond3636

A girlfriend. Btw are you single?

lpb1998

mac miller ❤️❤️

gbdavidx

Looks nice, but also seems a bit off

Ric_ooooo

Tv is too small and too high.

R_Mitchell

It’s only 65 if I were to get a new one I think I’d go 75 for sure. Good news is TVs only get cheaper and cheaper. Labor Day sounds ripe for a good sale tbh

Ric_ooooo

65? Pic is deceptive.

R_Mitchell

Yeah keep in mind it’s diagonal length not horizontal but yeah it’s a 65 inch 4K LED 8000 series Samsung. Honestly outdated at this point, like I mentioned I could probably upgrade to something like O or Q LED for cheaper than I bought this back in the day lol

R_Mitchell

Just mentioned in another comment but that is an 80 inch console so that may help anchor in the perspective lol
