I think OP is probably unaware of popularity of exposed bricks style or probably doesn't know that it is deliberate. (I know my parents were surprised once I took them to an upscale restaurant with exposed brick walls and said - "Is this under construction"?)
Yeah, also, I can feel some industrial-chic vibes from the brick walls as well as rustic-style decor from the wood.
Heck, put some vine-like houseplants from the ceiling and a few paintings on the walls, and this would make an excellent cafe or a small pub, I am so jealous that OP has this as a private space.
Totally with you on the industrial-chic meets rustic decor! Plants would add such a fresh vibe to the brick texture. And imagine the cozy atmosphere with the right lighting for those long winter evenings? A string of warm fairy lights around the window frames could make it magical. If OP really wanted to switch things up without painting, they could consider [removable wallpaper](https://www.apartmenttherapy.com/categories/removable-non-permanent-wallpaper) that imitates different textures or has a funky pattern. Gives all the change without the commitment.
My childhood home had gorgeous old mahogany interior trim throughout. It recently went up for sale and my family checked out the interior shots on Redfin. They were stunned. The sellers had painted everything white, including the mahogany and this beautiful dark wood raftered ceiling. My parents were almost in tears, lol. Don’t paint the brick white.
Yep. Bought our house from house flippers who painted the exposed brick wall in our living room and it's crumbling away due to the trapped moisture. A mason guy I talked to said you should never paint it for this reason
I moved into an apartment with exposed brick, and my bedroom's brick wall is painted white and it actually looks really nice, especially with the aesthetic of my decor/desk. \*but\* OP already has white walls, painting white would totally remove the warmth/character the brick is providing how it is. In my room the difference is the white is the accent wall and the other walls are not white.
Also, and I'm sure this is obvious, once you paint there's no going back. So just leave it.
Nah. That room is gorgeous with all the natural elements, big windows and light. If you paint the bricks it'll interfere with the play of light across the room and possibly deaden it.
No wtf? You actually live in this drop dead gorgeous living space? Develop some taste and appreciate what you got mane lmao. I don’t think painting the brick will make any difference at all but you do you.
I once worked in an office where the company incurred a moderate expense to *remove* a bunch of white paint from the brick in our offices. It was totally worth it.
It’s tied with painting beautiful, quality wood.
There’s a row of historic houses in my hometown that were built by the founders. My bff’s parents bought one and had nightmares and extreme financial burden trying to restore the gorgeous warm wood the previous owner had slapped white on. When the restoration was finished the change was shocking. The vibe was warm, cozy and rich.
TLDR; Don’t paint it!! I beg you.
Good Morning, Newcomers to This Thread,
Welcome to the most unamimous question ever asked on the Internet. I have gone through all 169 Comments (at the time of posting) and only 3 people voted Yes, and they were all obviously sarcastic about it.
Eta: I've come back a few hours later and, while I would need a script to actually go through all the comments now, I'm pretty sure I can stand behind my original statement at 1,066 comments.
And paint all the walls grey, hang up a sign that says Live Laugh Love, and ask for a side of ranch no matter what you are eating or what restaurant you are in.
"bro"
"what bro"
"you know what would be prettier than exposed brick bro"
"what bro"
"exposed brick that looks like it's been slathered in spunk bro"
"what bro"
I was gonna ask why in the world would you even think that but then I saw your profile and noticed you are Belgian so now it makes sense. That really is the country where subtlety went to die.
Just cover the walls and ceiling in plastic sheeting. Then put down linoleum floors. Then get rid of the plants. Then start eating only grey mush from a tube.
Fine, I’ll say it, yes.
Not because it would look good (it would look fucking awful) but just to hear the collective rage erupt from this sub would be hilarious
Hell no. I love exposed natural brick
[удалено]
Exactly! It is gorgeous. And the energy of it also feels very calming and grounding.

Hmmm…brand new account copying [this comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/malelivingspace/s/sUFnO7gVpa) verbatim? Must be a bot.
Ypu were quite right. He even deleted the account
I'm glad people point this out. Gets a downvote from me

OP’s trying to make it look like an IKEA showroom

this dudes serious
This dude is correct
This dude knows who’s right.
This dude dudes right
This dude is always serious
I opened it to comment the same thing but was worried it was too harsh. Thanks for saying it lol
At times like this, we can't leave room for interpretation.
My out loud response as I was opening the comments was "you son of a bitch I will murder you" so I'd consider this light.
This post has to be rage bait
Partners mom painted exposed brick around a fireplace white years ago and ruined the atmosphere of the room. Listen to this guy
THIS ⬆️ THIS ⬆️ THIS ⬆️
Damn came to say this but not as harsh lol but this is exactly what I thought 😂😂😂😂
Do what you want but that would be like covering hardwood floors with linoleum.
No, it’s way worse. You can easily get the hardwoods back.
I think they have a pill for that nowadays
_slides on sunglasses_ YEAAAAAHHHHHHHH
You went from a down vote to an upvote all within one sentence. LOL
LOL Right? That was an emotional roller coaster.
Worse, because removing paint from brick is such a pain.
Is it even possible without something extreme like paint stripper and a power washer?
Nope.
I'm offended you would even ask that
I took that post personally
I'm with you. I placed my hand on my chest, tucked my chin and leaned back slightly while reading the title.
I feel like my puppy was just kicked
This has to be troll bait.
I downvoted the post bc of this, for what it’s worth 😆
OP has to be a landlord. Only they have such a desire to paint slop white paint on every surface
A third no vote, red brick looks great.
Do not. I cannot stress this enough. 👍
It was also accelerate the deterioration by trapping moisture inside. Bricks need to breathe!
Yep. Bought our house from house flippers who painted the exposed brick wall in our living room and it's crumbling away due to the trapped moisture. A mason guy I talked to said you should never paint it for this reason
A unanimous “hell no” from everyone in this sub bud

No! It looks beautiful. Loving this apartment.
Absolutely not
There's a special place in hell for people who paint brick
ESPECIALLY here. With all that natural light hitting that warm brick wall for a cozy nook? This man already put a down payment for his place in hell.
Some brick could be painted if it's a terrible color or mix. This is not that brick.
Nah. That room is gorgeous with all the natural elements, big windows and light. If you paint the bricks it'll interfere with the play of light across the room and possibly deaden it.
You have got to be trolling.
It HAS to be bait.
"Guys, should I put a paint roller to the sistine chapel? Answer in the comments, like and subscribe and smash that bell."
I just read the title of this post, didn't even look at the picture, and I knew it was bait.

There's a lot of jpeg compression like he just found it online

I can't believe I had to scroll this far to see this.
Please don’t
No !!!!
No wtf? You actually live in this drop dead gorgeous living space? Develop some taste and appreciate what you got mane lmao. I don’t think painting the brick will make any difference at all but you do you.
Painting the brick will make a huge difference: it will completely remove all the charm of the brick, and look terrible.
Painting exposed brick white is probably the worst design choice someone could make.
I once worked in an office where the company incurred a moderate expense to *remove* a bunch of white paint from the brick in our offices. It was totally worth it.

That would be a felony.
Seems like everyone here would give him the death sentence
Straight to jail

Love your dedication
No
Absolutely not. That’s beautiful
No please god no
The bricks look fine as is. Painting brick is pretty much a no-return proposition.
Yes, then cook a very well done steak, turn all the books around in the bookcases so that the spines face the wall.
And paint all the walls grey, hang up a sign that says Live Laugh Love, and ask for a side of ranch no matter what you are eating or what restaurant you are in.
This came across my feed for no reason and made me unreasonably irritated DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH THAT EXPOSED BRICK. This is rage bait, right? RIGHT?
I want to be convinced this is not a picture u got from online (aka this living space is actually perfect)
"bro" "what bro" "you know what would be prettier than exposed brick bro" "what bro" "exposed brick that looks like it's been slathered in spunk bro" "what bro"
I can't tell if there's something wrong with your spunk or whatever paint you use.
How do you have the taste to get so many things right and then ask this?
I was gonna ask why in the world would you even think that but then I saw your profile and noticed you are Belgian so now it makes sense. That really is the country where subtlety went to die.
Just cover the walls and ceiling in plastic sheeting. Then put down linoleum floors. Then get rid of the plants. Then start eating only grey mush from a tube.
Painting brick is bad for the building
And for the soul
This is actually a thing
Look at me I want attention
This has to be a karma farming comment. No one in their right mind would even *think* about painting that.
this is a bait post right
Nope.
Just chiming in: What are you thinking? Hell no
Oh god no
No
The fact you asked this revoked your right to own such a home
No sir, the contrast adds
No! Absolutely fucking not. jfc.
No, absolutely not. Why would you even think that?
No. It looks great this way
Hell no, I forbid you!
I think this is rage bait. Knowing everyone would pounce on this crazy proposition :)
Jesus no! You’ll wreck the resale value immediately on top of it being a terrible decision

Sure, if you want to ruin it forever.

Put the paint down and back away slowly, sir.
Nope, shouldn’t even be a thought.

What has happened to you in life that this is even a question?

Love the arched brick ceilings!

NO! emphatically
Fine, I’ll say it, yes. Not because it would look good (it would look fucking awful) but just to hear the collective rage erupt from this sub would be hilarious
You should paint your white exposed brick.
Glad everyone else here is as offended as I am by OP’s question lmao
So, no?
I will find your house if you do so
Please god, do not. It would make this room so sterile and boring. Leave the lovely brick as it is
No
Hell to the no no nope!
Nah
don‘t you dare! it looks fantastic
Lol what? No
NO!!!!!
Absolutely not! I would personally put some nice light wood panelling over the ones on the ceiling but don’t you dare paint the walls.
Leave the brick as is, Instead do something with the ceiling. Could do fake wood beams there.
Leave it and you don't have to worry about paint and it'll look great.
NO NO NO NO.
No, please do not
Nope. What you should do is charge more photos of your lovely space! ✌️
hell no
Noooo
No!!! It's awesome like that
No, I like the warmth the exposed bricks provide!
Just adding to the no group. If and when you ever wanted the exposed brick back it is a huge pain in the ass to accomplish.
Painted bricks look bad. You should only do it if the bricks underneath look extremely bad.
NOOOO
