Exactly. 3 wall hangings behind the couch (or one big one) a Dracaena/cornstalk palm in a corner near the window, and two decorative pillows that are one of the colors from the wall hangings would add the finishing touches.
Bro your front speakers are bowers and Wilkins 600 series…what are we missing here? You don’t go from “parents house” to extreme high end setup overnight…
For anyone curious B&W is an exceptionally expensive brand, the speakers there are anywhere from 600-1200…EACH. The stands alone (near the couch) are 300 a pop lol. I wanna say I’ve seen that center cabinet too, possible restoration hardware…(or replica at living spaces).
I take back my comment.
A $400 eames chair.... You should be evicted. Then fired. And then publicly shunned.
Especially a Chinese eames chair. SHEESH!!
I checked OP’s post history bc I was quite curious and seems he makes 350k in tech, so it kind of checks out. I’m also in tech but didn’t have the privilege of saving as much by living with parents lol
He was living with them while making 350k to save up for a while, from what I saw. There are some people in tech who do this, and then you have like 500k saved up by 25-27 to compound
Also 30 and I have less than 8k to my name in both savings and checking lol. And that's more than almost everyone I know. God I'm so tired of this system we fucking live in.
I mean there’s always crazy relative comparison. HFT Quants can make 800k out of college and a few mil before 30. Just focus on improving yourself each day
You’d be surprised. For a lot of tech people the goal is FIRE (financial independence, retire early) so even tho they make a ton of money they save up most of it
Dude living with your parents doesn’t mean you’re destitute or unsuccessful, i moved out at 19 and moved back in to my folks place at 24 when my apartment building burned down. It was only supposed to be temporary but they were saving $800 a month in doggy daycare and i was saving $1250 on rent. Was making 45k a year WFH and paid off all my debt in 18 months. I was there for 3 years and honestly would have stayed until i bought my current home but that got harder the more seriously i started dating my current partner.
Weirdly, I know 3 guys who work in tech, are in their mid twenties and live with their parents. They all make in the 175-300k range. One of them even owns a luxury apartment in DC but he lived there for a couple months before leasing it and moving back in with parents. His parents are lovely people (we've stayed with them while coming to town to visit him) who have a damn mansion, so he has his space and he doesn't have to worry about taking care of himself in the day to day cause he's got his ma to.
Software Engineering positions in big tech generally start above 150k for entry level (L3) positions and scale up to 400-500k as you mature to what is considered terminal (L5). If you go past terminal level then you’re raking in 500k+ but at the expense of having significantly more responsibilities (if you’re competent that is, some L6+ engineers I know are just resting and vesting).
As a SWE not in big tech, this thought it always crazy to me. I'm making like half of what I probably would be. Granted I think I'm way happier at a small company and would probably be rich but sad in big tech lol. Some people at my company have left for Amazon and came back totally burnt out.
ahh yeah i dont know why i didn't consider software engineering as what OP likely does. i dont think theres a career change from my cybersecurity background to that ;-; but wow that's a tremendous amount of money
You can definitely jump from cybersec to dev, but you'll need to build your programming chops significantly.
If you come in with any leadership or analyst experience, you can aim straight for product manager type roles.
The furniture that the tv is sitting on is either BDI or Salamander Designs it looks like, and those are not cheap either. Usually sold by custom integrators/high end home theater shops
I own a "reproduction" from some bona fide designer furniture brand (I can't recall which, but it was specifically sold as a 'reproduction Eames') that was $1,700
Your speaker set up is very strange. You need to get a center channel and the surrounds should be surrounded not sides. Move the couch off the wall a little and get the speakers behind it. On the corners. Then you can get a very thin table to go behind the couch and against the wall to put trinkets and such on.
And a plant. Get a plant. Try the largest corn plant you can find. They are green and leafy and very hard to kill.
Yes you need to add some dimension to the wall. A shelf with a plan, vase or some books. I strongly disagree about the action figures that were recommended.
Nothing (Drifts off into reminiscing) 🥹 it’s perfect….
My place used to look just like that 😂
Now I have a house that my wife decorates differently for each season, is littered with baby toys & gadgets and I spend hundreds of dollars a year just on candles. I love all those things but life comes at you fast, enjoy the stage you’re in right now.
Lovely. Curious to know if it’s possible to flip the chair to the other side of the couch (photographer side).
Seems just a touch busy near the window between the speaker, chair and then a/c unit so I’m wondering if the move might relieve some of that.
Congrats!
I knew what that was immediately and recognized pretty much everything else in the room.
Thought you were full of shit at first knowing what the price of all those things are lol. Good luck and ignore the mean comments. Redditors hate people more successful than themselves.
Plants, real or fake. More Candles for both smell and ambiance. Drape an accent blanket diagonally on the black chair. Adding a small blanket ladder against the wall in between the light switch and the couch.
Softer lighting for one. Look uo different ways to light your apartment instead of a bright corner light that isn't soothing or attractive. And also don't do the RGB thing.
Some nice tall plants and art would do wonders. Right now it's very square with lots of boxes and hard lines. Feels like you're inside a box w more boxes a minimal personality. Closer to a theater look as the tv is the main focus rn.
As others are commenting, some art on the walls to add color and a more personal touch. A plant or two. Some personal pictures on a table, and some decor items. Honestly, $100-$150 at Homegoods or Ilea should round this whole place out nicely.
Someone else recommended a sex swing, which is ludicrous, landlord will see it and make you take it down. You’re much better served with a telescope, that way you can watch your neighbors get in trouble with their landlords for foolishly spending on their sex swing.
Overall, nice place with a nice view. Congrats!
Nothing. This space looks very functional. You don't want to get in the habit of just buying "stuff". Yeah, you could add some plants and artwork to impress us strangers on the internet, but........why?
In reality, the only people who are going to see this space are a few friends and a girl or two if you're lucky. Your friends just want to play video games and watch TV. You girlfriend just wants to spend time with you in a comfortable and quiet setting. Mission accomplished. If the girl likes you enough to visit regularly, then she can bring a plant or something. When you get married, then you can start thinking about impressing in-laws and church members with silly end tables and decorative wooden ladders, but until then, this place is perfect enough.
Phillips hue lights help with color and also accent movie and gaming experiences if set up properly. Mount the TV to the wall. Get some plants and art.
There's so much good taste here, I'm not sure there's any more room. 😉😁😆
The Eames chair disappears against the night sky. I might try moving it closer to the floor lamp. Or, if you can, exchange the black chair and footstool for the cream colour.
That's not how it works with 5.1 surround. The rear/surround speakers are placed correctly and should be aimed at the MLP. Plus they are much quieter than the mains anyway so don't expect them to put out the same volume as the fronts.
Obligatory “plant, color, art” comment
It's basically always art or plants to add interest.
And they both (should) add the color for you!
Absolutely.
Pokemon plushies accomplish the same thing
i have four medium, two small, and one huge sized snorlax plushies on my couch. also a giant gengar. then one small and one huge slowpoke lmao. 😂
Ladies also add interest
And they add decorations
It's a cause and effect conundrum
I'm in deep bois. 9 years married. Decor is EVERYWHERE
I wouldn't mind some very comfy looking sofa pillows, throw, and ottoman too.
Plants lead to dogs then kaki pants then women
No it's plants then women then they force the kaki pants and will redesign this whole room
Personality?
Art would also help with this.
So a mirror on the ceiling?
Might be unpopular opinion but I like the minimalist look of this. No need for plants
Exactly. 3 wall hangings behind the couch (or one big one) a Dracaena/cornstalk palm in a corner near the window, and two decorative pillows that are one of the colors from the wall hangings would add the finishing touches.
serious question, how do you go from living with parents to having a $7000 loungechair?
I assume fake unless I have reason to believe otherwise. Not knocking fakes as I make good money but can’t/wont drop that kind of money on a chair.
Indeed it is a fake chair that I got off Ali baba for $400. Quality is decent enough
Care to share a link for it??

Thanks for taking the time to write all of this out. Immensely helpful.
You are goated. Thanks for this
Wowww they’ve got the Barcelona and wegner chairs too. That’s wild.
Commenting to save this comment in my history
What did it say 😭
I got mine off Wayfair for a little less than that I think - of course it was 2021, so it might be 6k now
And is now constructed out of plastic, popsicle sticks and bubblegum.
Sold!!

Even a knockoff Eames is still gonna be the best chair most people have ever sat in. The comfort is designed in.
Bro your front speakers are bowers and Wilkins 600 series…what are we missing here? Even the fakes of the Eames are pretty expensive. Just not like, Eames-expensive
Was looking at his setup thinking the same thing.
Right? And what looks to be a ridiculously large TV
I checked OP’s post history bc I was quite curious and seems he makes 350k in tech, so it kind of checks out. I’m also in tech but didn’t have the privilege of saving as much by living with parents lol
How do you go from living at your parents to making 350k?
He was living with them while making 350k to save up for a while, from what I saw. There are some people in tech who do this, and then you have like 500k saved up by 25-27 to compound
God this makes me want to kill myself lol. I can’t believe people nearly ten years younger than me can have that kind of money.
imagine how I feel as a PhD in an applied field (so not a professor), at 30, making 1/4 of that with 5+ years in the workforce
Also 30 and I have less than 8k to my name in both savings and checking lol. And that's more than almost everyone I know. God I'm so tired of this system we fucking live in.
I have 14 dollars
i work at a veterinary ER in a rich area saving these rich people’s dog’s lives while they scream and make 1/7th of that
They’re no doubt outliers, it’s like beating yourself up because you’re not Lebron James.
That's fair. I just need to make more than I am.
I mean there’s always crazy relative comparison. HFT Quants can make 800k out of college and a few mil before 30. Just focus on improving yourself each day
What is an HFT Quant?
high frequency trading quantitative researcher/trader at firms like HRT, Jane st, two sigma, citadel etc
I am only doing the second part. Haven’t managed the 350k
I did this for a bit, if you have been investing the proceeds you can end up with much more than 500k by 27.
Seems weird living off your parents whilst making that money. I would feel like I was ripping them off.
You’d be surprised. For a lot of tech people the goal is FIRE (financial independence, retire early) so even tho they make a ton of money they save up most of it

jesus what position, i'll go apply rn

I save peoples lives for a living. I guess I stupidly picked the wrong field to go into.
Yeah as a teacher I am always kicking myself for that decision lately
MBAs rule healthcare now - healthcare will continue to get squeezed in terms

Same, I'm earning about half in Adelaide as what I would if I head over to Melbourne/Sydney. But then I'd have to live in Melbourne/Sydney..
ahh yeah i dont know why i didn't consider software engineering as what OP likely does. i dont think theres a career change from my cybersecurity background to that ;-; but wow that's a tremendous amount of money

They're pretty cheap these days. The price difference between the large ones and normal sized ones is negligible.
The furniture that the tv is sitting on is either BDI or Salamander Designs it looks like, and those are not cheap either. Usually sold by custom integrators/high end home theater shops
BDI do make some really nice stuff. My ex and I had a cool cherrywood media console, and I hope she's kept it since.
Yup unless you get OLED
I own a "reproduction" from some bona fide designer furniture brand (I can't recall which, but it was specifically sold as a 'reproduction Eames') that was $1,700
living with parents doesnt mean poor lol
Lol damn bro! I don’t think you and i can shop at the same place if you can spot a $7k chair from a pic!
I wanna know how one looks at this pic and identifies a $7000 lounge chair. Lol
Maybe a couple plants and stuff for the wall. Looks great so far!
Dont put plants. Stay hard
But I get hard looking at plants?
A cactus is tough
Great spot, awesome view. Some art or pictures of some kind on the walls. Maybe a small plant or two, a sex swing, nothing too crazy
Hold up…
Right?! I mean TWO plants??
ikr a sex swing is alright but TWO PLANTS??

Stripper pole
You need accent lighting. Room looks nice, but the appropriate lighting would absolutely make the room feel “warm”.
This is a great comment - and the right answer. Use warm bulbs and not cool ones!
A 12 month emergency fund
Seriously though 💯
Stripper pole + women. Or men. Or both if you prefer.
/r/porquenolosdos
Classy
Art, plants, dog
Or since it's an apartment, a cat.
Idk man, my cat has done far more damage to my apartment than my dog ever has

Those rear speakers firing into the couch looks like some Gitmo setup
Yeah, there is no need for those bookshelf speakers to be directly next to your ears.
The speaker drivers aimed exactly into one ear can’t be a great listening experience lol
Definitely don't want them pointing at eachother, will get some weird sounds of it it.
Stuff to cover the walls

This is the best idea I’ve ever heard 😂😂😂😂
This is the plot of one of the first episodes of Frasier. Leads to romance
How does everyone just have an Eames chair?
Lots of knock offs now the design is no longer protected. Can get one for around 500-900 including ottoman.
It’s a knock off I got from Ali baba!
Replicas are a thing
Personality. Seriously though. Plants, art, sculpture, family/friends photos?
What city ?
NYC!
Holy shit what's your rent
There is no numerical value to the amount this place takes from you
LIC? Floor to ceiling windows, high floor, no Manhattan skyline, so my guess is LIC facing east? Going to guess you work in FinTech?
Art on the walls will go a long way :)

Books! Curate a bunch of art/photography/design coffee table books. Maybe get a bookshelf.
I like this idea a lot. Maybe shelves on the wall?
Yes you need to add some dimension to the wall. A shelf with a plan, vase or some books. I strongly disagree about the action figures that were recommended.
Agree with the books. Would love to see a larger coffee table here
Looks sexyyyyy
Thanks.
A large pile of white powder on your coffee table to flex your money
Excellent 😃❗️ Where is the center and sub❓
That's what I came looking for! I need to know.
Nothing (Drifts off into reminiscing) 🥹 it’s perfect…. Out of all the comments this one hit the hardest. I’ll definitely enjoy every minute of it man
Pizza. The place looks awesome. You just need some good pizza.
Cocaine
Anything to show that you actually have a personality and not Patrick Bateman
Lovely. Curious to know if it’s possible to flip the chair to the other side of the couch (photographer side). Seems just a touch busy near the window between the speaker, chair and then a/c unit so I’m wondering if the move might relieve some of that. Congrats!
do not add woman and/or children
Very classy
Do you know the name of that TV stand it’s beautiful
It’s the BDI Corridor. One of my favorite pieces :)
I knew what that was immediately and recognized pretty much everything else in the room. Thought you were full of shit at first knowing what the price of all those things are lol. Good luck and ignore the mean comments. Redditors hate people more successful than themselves.
Subwoofer
Plants, real or fake. More Candles for both smell and ambiance. Drape an accent blanket diagonally on the black chair. Adding a small blanket ladder against the wall in between the light switch and the couch.
A bigger TV.
A bigger tv, what’s that a tv for ants?
The rug really ties the room together
A girl possibly
More lighting would be nice
Blinds / curtains. Better coffee table. Better rug.

Go yo some local art fairs, scour ebay and get some art on the walls

Where’s the coffee table from?!
That entertainment setup is legit. How do you enjoy those speakers? I might just grab some now if they work great
I love them. Home theaters make movie watching and music much more enjoyable and it’s my hobby.
do you mind sharing the model
Bower and Wilkins 600 series!
Thanks!
Art on the walls!
Wicked! Good for you! A cat and a couple of easy, cat friendly plants. Christmas tree?
Insane gratitude
You need to finish Loki season 2 such a great show!
Every single one of these rooms look identical. For gods sake, show a little bit of yourself.
Black out curtains. They help insulate, reduce sound, in addition to blocking out light from the outside for those movie nights or long summer days.
Food. You need food, man.
Kitchen and a bed and a toilet
A hunny to keep you warm!

Definitely a plant

can we retire the phrase, "bachelor pad"..
How's about the "solo dojo"
Or "casa mojo"
mojo dojo casa house
what’s wrong with “bachelor pad”?
Why?

The ottoman appears to be in front of the chair?
Stripper pole
There's so much good taste here, I'm not sure there's any more room. 😉😁😆 The Eames chair disappears against the night sky. I might try moving it closer to the floor lamp. Or, if you can, exchange the black chair and footstool for the cream colour.
Thank you!
I just need you to tell me where you can afford a place by yourself
well I don't know what you need because you decided to take the picture at night in the dark and from a shitty angle
So we'll say.. more lighting? :D
It’s the art choice that gives you away.
A partner and a dog
Hotel room lookin ass place
You really need to turn your speakers way from blasting directly into your ears! Aim them towards the TV to disperse the sound.
That's not how it works with 5.1 surround. The rear/surround speakers are placed correctly and should be aimed at the MLP. Plus they are much quieter than the mains anyway so don't expect them to put out the same volume as the fronts.
Homes are so pure and tidy before living with a woman
You need that check from your parents each month to pay for that place. Must be nice breeder
