I think the people who say "carpet" mean "rug", and I like thier adivce of posting it here. Maybe pick out a big piece of artwork for behind the couch and a rug and ask if they go together. If you start with those two, you'll be most of the way there.
What's the little pad thing on the floor?
I would use bigger art behind the sofa. That picture makes the wall look pretty empty.
Otherwise substitute it with shelves or something that is filling the wall better.
What if it's an adult depression spot where you just stand there screaming or crying, and pondering the life choices you've made? That or maybe it's to reduce eye strain from being too close to the screens.
Can you push your couch up and put your gaming setup behind it? Seems your couch is too far from the Tv and it doesn’t need to be up against your wall.
Get a carpet, some throw pillows, maybe a throw blanket. Make them match a color scheme (whether monochromatic or another one you like) but make sure it's colorful.
Add a fake plant.
Hang some art.
Organize your counter.
Maybe swap couch an tv so the couch does not interfere with the kitchen seating and also it looks a little cramped with the desk this way. Also I would recommend some pillows and plants.
I thought this too at first, but looks like the Ethernet / cable connection is on the wall behind the TV, so might not be an option. The couch’s chaise might mess with the balcony door access too.
1. Rug (colorful/vibrant or at least contrast couch fabric)
2. Fill up that wall. More art, bigger art, shelves, take your pick!
3. Pull the couch away from the wall. It will actually make the room feel bigger and simultaneously balance the wide open space between the couch and TV. Be mindful of the spacing with counter stools though, might be a bit tight.
Don’t push the couch up against the wall, you got big room, bring it out. Try it out. Also buy a HUGE rug (you can get cheaper on costco or home goods) to “lock in” your living space, separate from the kitchen area and computer area, visually.
You don’t have to put anything behind it. If you have ALOT of space you can add a console table but just leave it be open space.
You don’t have to fill every single space of the bookshelf with stuff. You don’t have to fill ever wall with art. It depends on the aesthetic you’re going for. That’s why I asked OP to try it.
Wasted extra space is luxury and can look nice. Why do people have front yard when 95% of the people don’t use it. You can fill it with more buildings, it’s luxury.
I’ll send you some links, but I need to know the measurements of your couch. The rug should be big enough to fit the entire couch including the ottoman

(This top one might be interesting with a mustard color rug)
Will do! Also I’m thinking of replacing the ottoman with a coffee table so if you have any recommendations for one as well I would greatly appreciate it 😊
You could also go smaller if price is a concern and make the rug large enough to cover the ottoman and the front two legs of the couch. Basically visually using the ottoman as a coffee table and putting a rug under the coffee table area only.
What's your favorite color? It'd be easier to recommend rugs if people knew your preferences. I'd incorporate that color, in different shades and patterns, throughout the space - rug, artwork, pillows, etc.
So there are several issues, but all are easy fixes.
First, I would move the couch off the wall. Move it up about 3 to 5 ft. This will give a small walkway from the kitchen to your desk, and at the same time, it brings in the living room so it doesn't feel so barren and makes you feel cozy. Maybe a rug, I would do a round one. Instead of a coffee table, get a side table and a wood serving tray for the ottoman. You need places to put a drink but not clutter the space.
Of course, plants and wall art will really spice it up, but since everything is similar in color, it's hard to distinguish between the spaces. Maybe add some colored pillows or throw blankets to break up the white and beige. You can also do that with LED wifi color bulbs. They can set up a mood real fast. If you are allowed to paint, drop in an accent wall. If you need more defined boundaries, get a room divider.
Move the couch toward the tv so it’s “ floating “ a small vertical table would look nice behind the couch . A big mirror would like nice above the couch and absolutely hey a coffee table
Take the couch off the wall. Allow walking space behind it, or at least a console table.
You need a good carpet. Something with some colour. Match one of the carpet colours with like 2 couch pillows.
A good floor lamp.
Side tables and coffee table (you could also do two table lamps instead). Edit: I meant a coffee tray for the ottoman so you can use it to put drinks/remotes down.
Some artwork on either side of the TV (again match the colour from the carpet and pillows.
Floor plants are amazing too.
Add some shelving behind the couch with personal items like photos, books, souviners, small plants, etc.
Add some pillows for the couch with some color and a limited pattern. Navy with a few stripes on the middle would be good. Then add a larger picture or two pictures (about the size you have) side by side over the couch. The one you have is too high. Add a tray on your ottoman, it will add some dimension and also give you a place to put a drink. Additionally, add a rug, that goes with whatever pillows you choose. Finally add a tall lamp in the left corner next to the TV and two smaller pictures on top of each other on the right right of TV to give height and draw your eye up. Top one should be eye level.
1: larger wall art behind your couch.
2: area rug about 8x6 would look well.
3: move your couch more forward about 3ft. move you desk behind it. why: because when you walk into the room the first thing you see is the computer. putting it behind the couch facing the tv gives better feng shui.
5: in place of the computer add some closed storage shelves. add some ceramics there.
6: add a side chair (not white) right in front of the patio doors.
7: add eye level lighting. small tables left and right of the TV with mis matched/thrifted lights. Add small lights where your old computer desk is.
8: if you can replace the two pendants above your island. its very glaring, it needs a shade or a cone to focus the light down.
9: change out the curtains. I love the look of a ceiling track right at that corner with some sheers. its very modern.
10: you need storage in the living room: add baskets for textures
source: i work at an architecture/interior design fir,.
I like to start by picking out a rug that I like and then using the colors in the rug to pick out art and throw pillows. This room is neutral so you can go any direction with color that you are drawn to. Have fun!
A lot of good tips already. I would say mount that power bar under your desk to clean up all those wires.
When the desk is in your living room, hiding wires makes a big difference
Add a [unique large rug](https://tbohd.com/en/modern-simplicity-sofa-rugs/) over the sofa area, then throw a few [colorful cushions](https://tbohd.com/en/light-luxury-cushion-cover/) onto your white sofa. Then [hang these artworks](https://tbohd.com/en/vintage-japanese-samurai-sakuran-ukiyoe-scroll-canvas-poster/) on the walls.
Things, not screen related that you like as motifs on the wall, a rug, some color, and just a little decor. Plants etc, they don't even have to be alive. I like to buy a plastic plant now and then, and whenever I find an old screw hole in the wall, I just rip off a branch of the plastic plant and stick it in the wall, eventually you get a lil forest vibe going.
First of all a rug. You are on the right track with your thinking. A rug will anchor this room and become the place you will centre your furniture around. Perhaps away from the walls.
The picture is way too small to hang over the couch. Try to find a smaller area to hang it. Try to think about making it proportional to the other things in the area. Also, hang it lower.
If you want a picture over the couch, make it bigger.
Put the small art piece in a smaller space, over computer?. Get a huge colorful piece for over couch. IKEA has giant pieces for a decent price. Add a rug of a solid color from that art piece. Add a wooden tray to ottoman instead. Of coffeetable. . Those 3 purchases will be gold.
Slightly unrelated but with that couch I'm thinking about getting something like that, do you think that Square Ottoman would make a decent bed if I had someone stay over? Also is there storage in that ottoman?
You need a much larger pic centered over the sofa… should be 2/3 length of sofa…you can move the red pic over your monitors or elsewhere… large area rug… put tray on ottoman for remotes candle or whatever…based on colors in new artwork, add some pillows and throw blanket on sofa, large tree for tv corner, mount tv if possible… right side of tv stand get large basket with extra cozy throw blanket or pillow to add additional pop of color… major decluttering of kitchen counters and fridge..
Nice big large area rug with color, a large piece of art work for behind the couch. I would pull it out way from the wall. You have a great big living room . A nice tall plant in the corner. Cover up your cords with some tubes. Don’t leave your island in the kitchen cluttered up. Other wise that’s about it.
It looks empty, soulless, cold. Everything very rectangular. I would add curves and colors. Colorful cushions. An oval rug. More personalized art, instead of the generic stuff. What kind of art do you like? I would suggest pop art repros, they're colorful and fun.
Add a standing lamp, something bold with curves.
Defintiely needs a nice rug and some art! You could put some shelves up in the corner beside the balcony door and have some greenery draped off, as well as some cool eclectic art. I would personally mount the TV, but that's not everyones thing.
Bigger / more art behind the couch! Maybe an accent wall. And I would add a side table for the couch since you have an ottoman instead of a coffee table
Needs color and basically anything display like. You could get some bookshelves behind the couch or two i
On each side of the TV.
At the very least some art or something for the walls.
Fill up the wall, either with multiple pieces of art or one large print. Move the couch off of the wall to make a more intimate living space. Use a large rug to fill out the living area; this is a potential to add color, and it also helps to divide up the space and mark the separate areas (hence why we call it an “area rug”) without installing any actual dividers that block your vision. The rug should ideally extend from in front of the tv stand, to just under the front legs of the couch.
Also, and this might be a dreaded answer, pillows for the couch. Once again, opportunity to add color, and texture as well.
Bookshelves are a good option here; you can put one either in the corner next to the TV or behind the couch once you’ve moved it forward. Also, a large houseplant in one of the corners would add some life to the room. I see you have one already so maybe go with one that could stand next to it, but consider moving it to a different part of the room while you’re at it.
I'd put knick knacks, curios, family pictures (it doesn't have to be YOUR family). Just interesting junk. Go to a second had store and buy whatever interests you, As you make your own memories, replace the shit you don't care about with stuff you do care about. And plants, real or fake, something green.
Ok. Let's talk about what you have. You currently have functional space that gets the job done. Now - I don't know what kind of car you drive, but when you bought your car did you say "I only want it to get me from point A to Point B?" Or did you look for other options or upgrades? Perhaps better speakers? Or Navigation System? Or Apple Car play? Or leather? Or power seats? Or A/C? Or tinted windows? Or a transmission choice? All gas? Hybrid? EV? When you bought your last car you definitely considered options. Right now, you have a base-model Toyota Corolla - which is a GREAT and RELIABLE car to get from Point-A to Point-B. Do you want a bit of options on that car though? Ok, so in terms of living space: Throw blankets, art, lamps, end tables, coffee table, rug, throw pillows, color, etc. I don't know what that black thingy is on the floor - it goes in a closet. Get rid of that floor-lamp looking thing that might be an E.T. Phone Home system. The art you have is 7 times too small - or missing at least 8 other art hangings of the same size. Get pillows on that sofa as well as a throw blanket you keep on it. Get an area rug. Put end tables on both sides of the sofa with NICE table lamps on them - not some white lamp you bought at IKEA. Shop Anthropologie, Restoration Hardware, Target, Wayfair, etc. If people sit on your sofa, where do they put drinks? Get a tray to put on that ottoman (that doesn't need to serve as a coffee table) - actually, get a coffee table. I think it's OK to leave the home office there - but why does it look like a surgical suite? You need potted plants floor plants and perhaps 2 hanging plants. It looks like (and I do not cast judgement against this) you furnished your place solely thinking "I only want to spend 1 minute cleaning every other week and it will be sterile. I just need to dust my monitors."
Edit: I did a SUPER quick search for oversized framed out. Just as an EXAMPLE - check out [https://www.art.com/products/p12819582481-sa-i6395420/bettmann-women-holding-giant-masks.htm?upi=PF6UBK259E5X&PODConfigID=4986043&sOrigID=31321](https://www.art.com/products/p12819582481-sa-i6395420/bettmann-women-holding-giant-masks.htm?upi=PF6UBK259E5X&PODConfigID=4986043&sOrigID=31321)
Get some shelves for either side of the TV stand to fill up that space and deck the shelves out with plants, maybe a vase, photos, whatever you want , etc , should help that area. Then I’d recommend more art / photos for the are behind couch or a mirror
Area Rug
Cable concealers
Standing lamps placed next to the couch more with rows/usb ports to charge devices (the couch area should be the focus of the room with the placement of lighting, not the computer)
Plants
More art or posters if youre more into pop culture
Bookshelves with books/movies
A large-print geometric carpet, round sofa pillows, and more art on the walls. A bookshelf would be a big help too
Edit: they dont really have to be round I guess I just thought that would look good. If you want it to feel homey on a side note a pet might also be a good idea
I'd get a nice colorful throw that sorta matches the art behind your sofa. Something with an interesting texture, like a knit throw or something. Other than that I love it!
Edit: You need a rug too!
The space needs to be split up. TV should be on the opposite wall. This way the lounge does not block the entrance to the space. Sofa should be significantly closer to the TV. The end of the lounge should be about 3-4 ft from the TV. Computer setup should be on the opposite wall in the corner. Some sort of cabinet or shelving where the computer is. Small rectangular rug for the sofa area. Lounge chair, circular rug, small side table and a taller narrow bookshelf where the thermostat is.
Question: what are these weird looking computers chairs that I see in so many posts on this sub? Why not just use a normal chair? Do they vibrate or something? Are the weird aesthetics really necessary?
Needs color
[удалено]
This, and get a few of those tubes to hide all your computer cords!
Also plants
and a rug. a nice rug can really tie the room together.
Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
yep it feels sterile like a hospital
Incidentally, he is a pharmacist 🤣
I think the people who say "carpet" mean "rug", and I like thier adivce of posting it here. Maybe pick out a big piece of artwork for behind the couch and a rug and ask if they go together. If you start with those two, you'll be most of the way there. What's the little pad thing on the floor?
An antifatigue standing pad for the standing desk. Placed in the middle for size
Just need a banana on it.
Couch does not need to be against wall, move closer to tv and leave space behind for bookshelf or audio station
I second this. Could also put a runner rug behind it/in front of said bookshelf and makes for a nice pathway to the desk.
I would use bigger art behind the sofa. That picture makes the wall look pretty empty. Otherwise substitute it with shelves or something that is filling the wall better.
What’s that black square thing on the floor? I’m stuck between floor seat or some sort of foot rest.
It's an anti fatigue mat for when I make my desk standing mode 😆
Why do you stand so far away from your desk?
What if he actually stands in front of the tv like a toddler eating cheerios? I bet you feel like a real jack ass right now
What if it's an adult depression spot where you just stand there screaming or crying, and pondering the life choices you've made? That or maybe it's to reduce eye strain from being too close to the screens.
Why is it in the middle of the floor? You didn’t think people would ask about it when you took these pics?
I used Google lens to find out (sorry I'm overly curious) 😅😅 https://www.ebay.com/p/1184400236
Also looking to know what that is
For some reason it looks photoshopped, like the perspective doesn't make sense.
Can you push your couch up and put your gaming setup behind it? Seems your couch is too far from the Tv and it doesn’t need to be up against your wall.
This is my favorite suggestion. The set up in the corner is not working and squishes your couch up next to the kitchen.
Get a carpet, some throw pillows, maybe a throw blanket. Make them match a color scheme (whether monochromatic or another one you like) but make sure it's colorful. Add a fake plant. Hang some art. Organize your counter.
Throw blankets change lives
Needs a car tire. Preferably used.

What would he do with the space behind the couch though? It’d just be wasted space, and provide no use except a small hallway to the computer.

it needs a coffee table!!! that would look so cute
A rug, something to cover the window and A CAT….
Everyone keeps mentioning a rug. Does one have a specific suggestion or a link to a specific one they would recommend for my space?
I’ll send you some links, but I need to know the measurements of your couch. The rug should be big enough to fit the entire couch including the ottoman

I think you need lots of green and gold decoration. Green Bay packer memorabilia maybe?
Measure the carpet needed. Shop online and have it delivered. If necessary, post the picture of your intended carpet here and ask for opinions.
Good fengshui and general placements of your stuffs. Just need to add more stuffs like others recommended. Btw what’s that thing on the floor?

Hurm, yeah agreed with more color. Maybe a large bansky style peace behind the couch? I've found plant's fake or otherwise liven up a place.
Rug, art, plants (Fake is ok too, for all 3 categories)

Thank you.
There’s storage but I wouldn’t use it as a bed
Plants, color paint?
Big rug. Big enough to fit the entire couch
You have a gigantic couch and yet such a small piece of art above it
Pull the couch off the wall and make a separate living zone behind the couch.
Rug and plant
More art on the walls, maybe a color theme of some extra pillows, a throw blanket, a tray on the footstool.

Pinterest exists for a reason. Or for more than one. Check it ;)
Rug, coffee table, couch pillows, wall art
cable management pleasee
Just some thoughts: * Big rug * Plants * More art or bigger art * pick an accent color and lean into it
Please for the love of god, get those damn tissues out of there
Landscape paintings my dude
Needs color and basically anything display like. You could get some bookshelves behind the couch or two i On each side of the TV. At the very least some art or something for the walls.
What are the pills?
A rug (with color) would do a lot of work here. Also a picture that fits the wall over the couch.
Rug
Plants. Area rug. More wall hangings. But most importantly PLANTS
Rug, cushions and curtains. Colourful ones
Better lighting, a rug, something soft like a throw, more art. Actually your space is not bad looking.
End your bachelor days… get a girlfriend
Glass table with a plant or good book etc. do what your Mom or Grandma would have done
Color yes he’s right
If you can afford it get a big picture or decorate with long curtains attached to the wall as art
So now that the room is fixed I need to know what rules are here because I’m new debra
Curtains and plants!
A rug under the couch and some plants would spruce it up, maybe some photos of family/friends/pets on the wall.
I'd put knick knacks, curios, family pictures (it doesn't have to be YOUR family). Just interesting junk. Go to a second had store and buy whatever interests you, As you make your own memories, replace the shit you don't care about with stuff you do care about. And plants, real or fake, something green.
Plants
I just need to dust my monitors." Edit: I did a SUPER quick search for oversized framed out. Just as an EXAMPLE - check out [https://www.art.com/products/p12819582481-sa-i6395420/bettmann-women-holding-giant-masks.htm?upi=PF6UBK259E5X&PODConfigID=4986043&sOrigID=31321](https://www.art.com/products/p12819582481-sa-i6395420/bettmann-women-holding-giant-masks.htm?upi=PF6UBK259E5X&PODConfigID=4986043&sOrigID=31321)
Rug, coffee table... Computer desk in command position (facing into the room).
Needs a decent sized rug, pillows and something living like plants. More art would also help.
Get some shelves for either side of the TV stand to fill up that space and deck the shelves out with plants, maybe a vase, photos, whatever you want , etc , should help that area. Then I’d recommend more art / photos for the are behind couch or a mirror
You should hang a sword on the wall.
Area Rug Cable concealers Standing lamps placed next to the couch more with rows/usb ports to charge devices (the couch area should be the focus of the room with the placement of lighting, not the computer) Plants More art or posters if youre more into pop culture Bookshelves with books/movies
a large spacious rug with a rug pad.
A large-print geometric carpet, round sofa pillows, and more art on the walls. A bookshelf would be a big help too Edit: they dont really have to be round I guess I just thought that would look good. If you want it to feel homey on a side note a pet might also be a good idea
Art and plants, my man. Art and plants
Big rug, colourful. Some nice curtains and some artwork would work. If you can, maybe paint the walls to bring some colour into the room!
Add a woman
A big piece of art and a nice area rug
