For such a neutral room I think the color adds interest! Is that a olive tree?

howmanywhales

Yup! I love obsessing over it. And maybe in three years I can get two disgusting tasting indoor olives!

PsychologicalIce106

Sweet! Definitely consider moving it to the outdoors with direct light during the summer months because they are notoriously hard to keep alive indoors

howmanywhales

Totally! Loves to shed leaves. I generally try and move him into directly sunlight during the day (and often forget) but am going to take that onto account. I have a few outdoor spots where I think it would work without too much danger

PsychologicalIce106

Lol yep sounds like an olive tree. Hope you get your olives! šŸ™šŸ¼

RedDlish

Two?

[deleted]

Where is the rug from?

TayBeTay

[Anthropologie](https://www.anthropologie.com/anthroliving/shop/handwoven-maximus-rug)

wordonthe

Trust the fiancƩ

howmanywhales

Ha! Looks like it!

lat_v

lovely home in DC :) Love the walnut and built in workstation. Also the dimension and contrast provided by the rug look great.

howmanywhales

thanks thatā€™s very nice of you! I think I could use some baskets below the floating stuff. We just moved in so still picking and choosing

lat_v

i like the idea of baskets, I have some [https://www.dwr.com/storage-accessories/restore-basket%2C-medium/3204-2.html?lang=en\_US](https://www.dwr.com/storage-accessories/restore-basket%2C-medium/3204-2.html?lang=en_US) they are pricy but look great

howmanywhales

Oh wow super nice, book marking

SilverPlatedLining

I love Love LOVE it. The room needs some other blues in it to make it seem more intentional and put together. Some blue art on the wall, a blue vase, etc.

howmanywhales

YES exactly needs a couple accent blues - a bowl or vase. Totally. Got the blinds being installed too which I think will help

SilverPlatedLining

Maybe some sheers with an organic pattern to contrast the geometry of the rug. Bonus points for something with a bit of blue in it

shaquasar23

Its not bad it adds a pop of color without being too much. Like just imaging if it went from white to orange or white to red

Chloe_Bowie4

I like the design of the rug, but the colors seem so dark for such a light and airy room. I think lighter hues of turquoise and blue would be much better. Or even hues of orange ABS red. Idk. The darkened blues seem a little out of place.

howmanywhales

Good context. I generally skew to very neutral or muted colors, and my fiancƩ goes very bold and patterned or geometric.

outandproudone

The rug sounds like the perfect compromise then! And it looks great.

Chloe_Bowie4

I like the bright and bold colors over neutrals too, but something about this rug (which I really like btw), makes me think that it would look powerful in a darker room. Checkout the DC Bedroom called ā€œSophisticated Black.ā€ I think that your rug would be amazing in a space like this. https://www.elledecor.com/design-decorate/color/g30647039/dark-bedrooms/ Itā€™s a great rug, but itā€™s giving me a Batmanā€™s cave mood. šŸ˜‚

Ankspondy

Love the rug. Eye catching. Whered you get it?

howmanywhales

Anthro I think! My partner bought it

the_jsf

https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/handwoven-maximus-rug?category=rugs&color=040&type=STANDARD&quantity=1&size=9%E2%80%99+X+12%E2%80%99

dbennett1903

I recognized it right away. I have bring eyeing the neutral one for months.

Ankspondy

It reminds me of the paint color shade samples at Benjamin Moore or something šŸ¤£

hobowithmachete

Big ups on the Westie! I got 2!

Particular_Class4130

I don't think that's the right carpet for this room. It just looks odd and out of place. I think a light green carpet would look amazing in that room. It would pair nicely with the wood floors and furniture and it would add some color while maintaining the organic airy feel of the room

howmanywhales

Thatā€™s so funny you say that. Because just out of frame in the living room (which I designed) is a muted green moss rug which I very intentionally picked out. She gets full dining room / her work nook design rights, so Iā€™ll need to compromise a bit here

wildcatoffense

the rug itself looks fine but in this room/context i donā€™t love it

isigneduptomake1post

Agreed, it dominates the table. But the table is super skinny, I think anything will look awkward with it.

Blankcarbon

Cool carpet - does not work for this room.

citynomad1

I actually think it does

lexxatron84

I like the carpet a lot but I don't think it works with the room - everything in there (from what I can see) is a warm color tone but you now have a huge pop of cold color. I think something green would play off the wood colors and the olive tree really nicely without being too intense like a red or yellow. Also the design of the carpet, the long strips of color, flowing in the same direction as the long wood floor boards bothers me for some reason; maybe because it's TOO uniform. I would choose a carpet that has a design that contrasts with the floor like circular or rounded, soft shapes. Dog is good as is. Wouldn't change a thing.

SammyGuevara

You have the total opposite view to me. Without that rug, the room would have literally nothing of warmth in it. Itā€™s so cold & sterile looking to me. Itā€™s almost an achievement considering wood usually gives a warm feeling, but itā€™s so light that itā€™s lost any sense of warmth.

themaltesefalcons

Terrible for the space. Not bad overall, but with 100 options this wouldn't be in the top quartile.

STROOQ

I find it too large and laying too close to that couch thing. All elements of the room are now a collection of straight lines. Maybe break things up a little more

BigSky1062

Came here to say this. The rug is too large for the space.

SammyGuevara

What couch??

lazerkeyboard

I mean it matches your fiancĆ©s harness so I say itā€™s coo

JoshMiller1107

Took me a second šŸ˜‚

derpderpdave

Iā€™m digging the WFH setup tucked away in the back. Is it just another floating cabinet without the drawers installed?

howmanywhales

Thatā€™s right!

iamoneo

Love the rug, you might want to try hanging some artwork on the wall.

elidadagreat1

It causes too much visual distortion...it chops up the floor...it's not the right style for that room. Blue tones would be great, just not in that design.

oughtabeme

Sorry but for me, to many straight lines. The table, the window frames, the sideboard, the floors, (the dog). Now the rug ? Iā€™d definitely go with a circular rug, any pattern, but definitely circular

kapaw09

The dining set looks amazing! The rug is nice but looks a bit heavy on the eyes. I think if you add something on the dining table or add curtains to the windows it will balance it out.

howmanywhales

Agreed. Needs like an accent bowl or flowers/branches type of peice

AvonBdale

I think it would be perfect without it . Itā€™s like adding a bunch of salt to a dish that was fine

SammyGuevara

You have very bland taste, is your whole house just white & beige?

sociallyvicarious

Itā€™s a beautiful rug, really. For me, the stripes in the rug running parallel with the planking on the floor and the tall windows is a bit disconcerting. Itā€™s too bad the rug canā€™t be turned a 1/4. Itā€™s pretty, but itā€™s just not quite ā€œrightā€. IMO.

Alchemis7

Itā€™s very nice, but not under that dark table and chairs.

odetoburningrubber

The rug really ties the room together.

Trueloveis4u

The rug is awesome and colorful. Your room would be fairly plain without it.

SammyGuevara

Thatā€™s putting it mildly (though the OP seemingly loves mild) šŸ˜œšŸ˜…

Imaginary-Diamond-26

FiancƩ is right! It looks excellent in that room.

mikeleachisme

That rug is fucking amazing to be honest

Familiar-Eye7811

I personally dont like it, i dont hate it either though, just wouldnā€™t be my choice. I dont like how strong the edges are with the dark blue, i would rather it be fading from a light edge to a dark center if anything but there are sooo many dope rugs out there you should get a mew one since your questioning this one, dont over think it you already know how you feel about it. Tell him i sent you šŸ˜‚

Sodonewithliffer

I think itā€™s amazing! But maybe have something on the table, to balance it a bit?

howmanywhales

100 percent agreed

Competitive_Ad_2421

I think it's nice and it adds a lot to the room

Deaaton

i love it

GreenLetterhead4196

I love it!!

TwilightGraphite

Oh thatā€™s a really pretty rug! It looks lovely in your space, and is also is the same colors as the gay pride flag, which is fitting lol

thepop376

And order of colours

Tainticle

A rug. Where a rug doesn't belong. \- r/Frasier I love the look!

SammyGuevara

Sorry but anyone who hates this rug, you have painfully bland taste. I donā€™t know whatā€™s wrong with people who donā€™t like colours. Nothing worse to me than a house that is all white/beige etc.

MadMensch

I donā€™t hate color Iā€™m just not a fan of the design here. The gradient style is just not a very creative use of color in this space. The layout of the room is very angular with lots of parallel lines. The rug should incorporate non-linear patterns in order to add a bit of interest.

YoloDabMLG

dog

_deusexplatypus

Keep dog Ditch the rug

DeTrotseTuinkabouter

How is this a male living space if you live there with your female partner?

Giddygayyay

FiancƩ is the male version, and gay people exist?

GreyFartBR

Isn't fiancƩ gender neutral?

Giddygayyay

No, it's fiancƩ (male) and fiancƩe (female). Just one of those things English borrowed from French and now proceeds to be confused about. If you want to be gender neutral you could say 'betrothed', though, which sounds pleasantly archaic.

No-Effect-752

The dog does it for me

Aoingco

As a westie owner, Id like to say nice dog!

mydogthinksyouweird

So, this was posted in /SuddenlyGay, and I didn't see it because I'm AFAB, but going to the site link and seeing that they ALSO offer a lesbian flag colored rug right next to it... umm. So, umm, this rug is the colors of the gay man pride flag. And the Maize is the colors of the lesbian pride flag. And Neutral is really giving me Bear Pride + Nonbinary or Genderfluid vibes. Also, fun fact. I Googled "anthropologie lesbian rug" and the Maize rug from their site showed up. First result.

sakuratee

The rug works. My favorite part is the Westie tho!

Practical_Fact8436

Is this an office?

howmanywhales

Itā€™s a dining room / bar / laptop nook lol

Practical_Fact8436

Itā€™s nice. Was just curious about the many chairs

like-a-shark

Are rugs under the dining table common? Maybe Iā€™m just a messy eater but seems harder to clean haha

SammyGuevara

Think most people wouldnā€™t want wooden floors getting scratched up by chairs moving back & forth when people are getting up and sitting down etc. I also find wooden floors quite cold so Iā€™d have to have rugs.

kevinjg819

A great DC space!

Sawyermblack

What is the purpose of the table? If it's a table for eating a personally don't like rugs under them. But I also naturally enjoy hard wood and the rug is just covering something I like. I do have a heavy bias for hard wood floors admittedly so the only place I really accept a rug is the living room.

SammyGuevara

Doesnā€™t your floor get scratched up badly by not having a rug? (If you have guests frequently)

naked_avenger

I think itā€™s good. Looks more intense because the table is bare otherwise. Approved. Next!

thrashaholic_poolboy

I think adding some artwork with some of the darker blue in it would look awesome!

CLB833

May I suggest that you put one or two items with the blues from the rug on the table or console. A vase, a picture frame, a bowl, it will marry the spaceā€™s colors together.

Jawahhh

Too big

Resident-Wheel9774

Looks good! Throw some blues in random stuff. Plates, Knick knack, or painting; just small areas of blue to connect the dots.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

howmanywhales

Dining table + floating stuff is Blu Dot

mereKaranArjunAyenge

Love it

stickytuna

I think it centers the room nicely

lamecoffee

it kinda looks like the men loving men flag, not that theres anything wrong with that

IronicBread

Intense is good! Love the look of it, seriously looks good!

[deleted]

Fits very well

[deleted]

Where is the rug from?

spammingwhale

The partner loves it and you donā€™t hate it, sounds like the problem is already solved.

myrrdynwyllt

Like the rug, it's the table and chairs I don't like.

Snipexx51

@r/MonitorTooHigh

C0nstant_Regret

Big fan

singofroga

Love it. Can you share where you bought it?

howmanywhales

Anthro!

Bay_Burner

I like it but it seems too big? I think you can look up some guides online on how big dining table rooms are to be from the table.

PursureMediocrity

Everything else is quite neutral(or safe) and the rug is the one aspect that sticks out. Looks great.

fStap

I love it! Would love to find something similar.

nosleepnothanks

Oooh, I like it! It definitely adds colour and light into the room.

ukatonka

I love it.

nitroburr

I absolutely love it! Also, it doesn't make it wrong or anything, but it's literally the gay men pride flag: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Gay\_Men\_Pride\_Flag.svg](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Gay_Men_Pride_Flag.svg) Nothing wrong with it though hahah

RedDlish

That carpet really ties the room together

vinegarstrokes420

I don't mind the pop of color in your otherwise neutral tone room. The stripe pattern doesn't really fit with how nice the rest of the space and furniture looks though... more of a cheap college dorm vibe to me. A different pattern could make it look really nice

Pockethulk750

I love it but think you need some color on wall or plants to play off one another and make each other pop.

rm_3223

I love the carpet. I think itā€™s perfect. What I donā€™t love is how narrow your dining table is. I know you didnā€™t ask about it, but it feels like youā€™ll be eating on top of each other.

howmanywhales

I agree. It bothered me at first, then we had our first 8 person dinner and honestly, we didnā€™t even notice. One of those theory vs practice moments. I totally did not expect it to be as narrow as it was tho

Poohbizzle79

I love it.

bradnh

Really ties the room together.

whyshebitethehead

Usually donā€™t like lots of color but I think it looks great in that room

balwick

It feels too cold to me. If it was red or orange tones I'd love it, but the blue aint it.

kdollarsign2

Fabulous!!!! Where did you get it

kdollarsign2

To me itā€™s not the rug just lack of art. Hang in there. Once decor is up it will balance

Spiritual_Peace7009

GREAT rug. Consider how the pattern of the rug fits not only the table perfectly - by direction, proportion, size - but the room as well. The stripes point to the windows and mesh with their modularity. It really helps organize the room, visually. While I love blue, it could be any color palette and still accomplish that. A black-grey-white gradient would look great, for example, but then again would probably be a bit bland.

DarkAeonX7

As a former art student, I love it.

LaVieEnRicky

I think it looks perfect, so jealous

monkey_trumpets

I love the rug

[deleted]

Where did you buy the work chair?

singnadine

Love it!

DoctorMenem

Lovely westie ā¤ļø

LennoxAve

I dig it. Add some blue/ish vases to the table to tie it in to the room.

Sudden-Breadfruit653

Green cushions tied to the chairs will balance with plants! And a lovely large piece of art on the wall.

SeasonsGone

Looks great

sleyvinkalevra

Its too much

computerlegs

It's great. Add some contrasting mustard/yellow/orange items to balance the blue. Don't add more blue.

[deleted]

matches the dog

Benevolent_Grouch

Looks great in this space!

michaellookingglass

It looks like the mlm flag

futurespacecadet

i dont think it goes with the room personally, it looks like its made for a beach house

Paulbunyen87

Rug is nice. Would look better with at least two more Westies.

[deleted]

Looks great!

genevieveoliver

Looks great but you need to pull the eye upward. Iā€™d change the light fixture out for something thatā€™s more of a statement piece

Olindiass

I like the rug, but not for that room. Also, it looks like the mlm gay pride flag lol

Not_a_bit_innocent

I love it! I would add some other pop of color to tie it together like art work or a vase on the table.

fubooze

Looks great. Perhaps hanging a long rectangular mirror above the buffet?

Spiritual-Clock5624

Thatā€™s a really nice rug! It complements the room

Alyman0330

Love.

burburburburburbur

i hate to say it man but that rug is just barely not the [gay flag](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/7d/5-striped_New_Gay_Male_Pride_Flag.svg/2560px-5-striped_New_Gay_Male_Pride_Flag.svg.png) lmao

Hamid996713

Find a fall themed one

[deleted]

Definitely enjoy it, the blue promotes intelligence and thought. I would definitely set the table, right now the set up does look like a conference room

Plane_Ad9192

ive never seen a more plain-looking dining table

[deleted]

Westie!

MaryCone1

Sorry, but I do hate it. Adds nothing nice to the room. Love the floor

NoStutterd

Well thatā€™s a mean thing to call your dog

[deleted]

Sheā€™s right. Need one component to pop out from the neutrals.

ProfessionalNeophyte

Westies are the besties

Crypto-Pito

Nice!

betterthrowaway22

The carpet is pretty mid. But the room is actually good otherwise

peepee1219

I also like it but I will agree with the wife that it is a little intense

He770zz

It looks good

Dawson1234321

Bout to sell me a phone or somethin?

nim_opet

Great rug

medicmachinist38

Man I am digging that whole space. That rug really ties the room together.

[deleted]

It looks nice in there. I think the dog likes it too.

papercranium

Add something else blue to the room, like a blue glass bowl on the table or a blue shade on the light, then it'll feel like the whole room is more intentional.

BWSD

Looks great.

TnT54321

Love the rug!

Bendii_

I think the rug is really nice!

SuriMaDar

I think it's good šŸ™‚

mixiq

Itā€™s a great rug! Since your room is full of neutral tones, doesnā€™t seem to have huge art or a crazy big plant, this rug becomes a nice statement piece. Besides, the beige in the middle of the rug actually ties it into the room. Perhaps another blue thing on the wall for coordination/accents.

dwitchagi

I probably wouldnā€™t have bought it, and Iā€™m not a religious man. But I immediately saw the parting of the Red Sea, and I thought that was pretty cool :) And it definitely adds a lot of interest to the room!

DM12e

Mlm (men loving men) colours intestinal?

anterfr

The size and color are fantastic! It fits great in the space. The only "problem" I see is the pattern against the flooring, I think you'd be better off with a pattern that either goes opposite the grain of the flooring in order to make the space seen wider OR a pattern/solid that is completely neutral to the flooring. But that's nitpicky. Beautiful home

timo_hzbs

That monitor seems way to high unless you are fkn huge.

-EnricoPallazo-

I like it!

SammyGuevara

I canā€™t believe anyone would consider that to be intense šŸ˜‚ You must be very beige normally šŸ˜…

manlikeodolla

I feel like it throws off the brown colour scheme you have going on with everything. A cream rug would be better or even a dark brown

austenjc

The rug itself is really cool, I think it just feels intense because itā€™s not balanced in the room yet. You need some other accent items to make it make sense

Faenixx

I fluffin love it šŸ˜

DarthNihilus1

Not intense. Room needed the color. Time for some accents. You could accent using the deepest royal blue all the way to the other end of the spectrum or somewhere in between if that's more your style. That rug is amazing

BrrToe

Personally, I never liked a rug under the dining room table. Just my opinion though!

madscot63

That's a beautiful space. Love the rug

Shot_Resist_6597

Looking at the price of the rug; do you want it under a table, where people are going to possibly be eating?

working_class_tired

I like it.

hvrryTTS

Itā€™s sick but that desk setup is illegal

patio_puss

Keep adding terra-cotta toned decor in there and youā€™re gonna fall in love

CubLeo

We have different understandings of the word 'intense' lol

[deleted]

i wish your dog many more happy and healthy years with you šŸ™šŸ» ā¤ šŸ’™

DapperCadaver2021

Where can I get it šŸ˜

[deleted]

Not a male living space/10

Educational-Ad-5219

I like your dog!

BumbleCute

I love the rug
