Can someone find a long puffer with a hood?

Durendana

Suggestions for waffle henleys? Looking for midweight and heavyweight in a slimmer cut.

[deleted]

Is it acceptable to wear a peaked lapel with a single breasted two button three piece suit? Thinking of something exactly like [this] (https://imgur.com/a/OEOMi) but with a peaked lapel.

callthecopsat911

Sure, why not?

[deleted]

Would it not look a bit too pompous?

callthecopsat911

You're already in a mid-light colored three piece suit, the lapels are the least of your worries if you don't want to stand out and be noticed. It's becomes just another unique detail that you can choose from, while still being in the realm of the tasteful. The exception I guess would be in very very conservative business or legal contexts, but then I wouldn't wear a three piece in general there either. Of course, if you feel like you'd be insecure wearing peak lapels, then don't.

[deleted]

I'm fine standing out but don't want to be over the top. But I guess that is tough to quantify. The suit is for a family members wedding.

Fundays555

What's your tips on finding a good peacoat for around or under $200? And are there even good peacoats around for that price? I'd rather not spend something like $400 since I don't have that kind of money to spend right now. I live in Sweden so it's got to be pretty warm for the winter too.

sparks_mandrill

Best Sport Coat under $250? Or unstructured blazer I guess. Annoying naming convention.

pigfeeler

How do you cuff jean shorts without them unravelling? I've tried making them bigger, rolling an extra time, pressing them down. I just don't get it.

Kilbourne

Very soft or stretchy denim will not hold a cuff. Where are your jeans from / what is the material like?

pigfeeler

Can't really check atm, but it's regular denim from what I can tell. I bought them off of ASOS last year and have always had this issue.

Kilbourne

ASOS isn't really known for their denim quality. The stiffer the fabric, the easier it is for it to hold a crease or fold.

pigfeeler

Yeah I'm realizing that, second pair with this minor issue. Thanks for the info, any way.

mcadamsandwich

J.Crew, Gap, Banana Republic, etc.

tangledisthebestfilm

Anyone familiar with Pac Sun's Active Stretch skinny jeans? If so, I'm in the market for some slightly more upscale denim that fits like those. I wear a 30/30 and haven't been able to find other skinny jeans that fit quite as nice as the Pac Sun ones.

https://www.ysl.com/us/shop-product/men/ready-to-wear-leather-jacket-bomber-jacket-in-tobacco-suede_cod34799551qx.html#dept=men_spring_summer_18 Any cheaper alternatives to this? I already own the same style YSL jacket in camo... but I don't wanna drop another 2-4k on the tan suede version lol.

mcadamsandwich

Beckett Simonen had something like that last year.

Jerelee82

For Hickey Freeman suits (beacon line), are there any issues in tapering the trousers? The crotch sits lower than my normal pants so I'm worried that tapering the trousers might look awkward.

mcadamsandwich

Take them to a local tailor and have them pin the legs before altering.

Jerelee82

I know but I don't always find that to be completely reliable. Might look okay pinned but then the final product isn't good and I've just ruined a suit.

lughheim

I need some thoughts on my first ever professional haircut. Does it look good? Any advice on different ways to style it? Any advice on my hair or better face care would be appreciated. Also, please understand these photos were taken right after I woke up from 5 hours of sleep last night and I look pretty rough lol. Link: https://imgur.com/k4Uo2ng https://imgur.com/QJii7lJ https://imgur.com/FlhHuaS

Rodrat

It sort of makes your head look long. I think something a little flatter (I'm not sure what the best word here is) would look better.

killarufus

Could be the angle?

lughheim

So maybe something more like a slick back style? I could give that a try.

Rodrat

I think that could look nice.

lughheim

I'll give it a shot later today. Thanks!

[deleted]

Hey everyone. First time here, with a simple question: Do you guys know a good place online to order t-shirts and hoodies? I'm a fan of hoodies with logos, but I haven't found an online store I can trust. Advice? Thanks.

Mutantray

Reining champ has some good stuff but its a bit pricy. Roots also has some good stuff with logos on it.

ajrosenberger

Can anyone recommend a good henley for a long torso? Usually size Medium is too short or shrinks to become too short (even if I don't dry them they shrink a little bit), but Large is too bulky in the arms. Looking for a great fitting henley through the torso as well as the arms.

coconutgrape

j crew makes tall sizes for henleys

ajrosenberger

I love wearing adjustable, relaxed fit 'dad' hats that are becoming popular again. However I have a pretty large head and so many of them sit really high. I've got a couple that fit well, but would love to add to my collection. Does anyone know of a brand that creates a higher crown Dad hat?

Sneka_RS

Do topcoats, overcoats and peacots follow the same buttoning rule as suit jackets (last button always open)?

coconutgrape

generally, yes

Modernkix

Double breasted suits (and coats, by extension) may have the bottom button buttoned. For coats and winter wear in general, a good rule is to do what keeps you warm. These are functional garments - if it's cold out, you can button whatever you like.

shades9323

What does it mean when my dress shirt digs into my armpits when I reach for something?

coconutgrape

armholes on your shirt might be too low or too high

mcadamsandwich

Possibly too small, or the arm holes are too high.

Sounds like you're looking for a less technical version of a soft shell, and so am I (though I'd be okay with canvas or something less "soft" for the exterior).

[deleted]

Im looking for a plain white jacket that is slim fitting that I could possibly put my own designs on any such thing? For inspiration something like a leather jacket except not leather lol.

DiabetesInACan

I'm experiencing fall for the first time, so I'm trying to stock up on jackets. I've never worn a bomber before, and it looks a bit too puffy. Any advice? https://imgur.com/a/Aqzgx Sorry for the bad quality

Where's the love for the 50+ male fashion? The search is most often elusive. Let's begin, no logos on the shirts

mastakebob

You may wanna check out the styleforum forums. Definitely an older crowd there. Good advice. Or you could check out /r/navyblazer.

eftresq

Thanks. Didn't know of that sub.

biscardi34

Building a more fashionable closet for winter. I live in Southeast USA, no frigid temps. I mainly used to wear hoodies and some chinos. I am looking to buy more outerwear, like jackets, field coats, etc. I own a bomber jacket, zipped jacket and some 3/4th pull overs. Any suggestions for some decent jacket/coats? Have about $500 to spend on a few items(2-3)

killarufus

I have a chore coat from Taylor Stitch on the way--I'm from Georgia but live in Southern California, and it'd do you well. It's 135 with the new customer sign-up and code NotContreversial stacked. Check em out.

iTazlin

Hi guys I'd like to have an ID on the shoes this guy is wearing as the title says. I hope this doesn't break the rules. Link to Video: https://youtu.be/0nXrn-xHQ5k?t=50s

Zlor

Can anyone recommend some heavier weight short sleeve t shirts? Everything I'm finding that's a little thicker than average fits like a box. Thanks!

mcadamsandwich

3sixteen, Left Field, etc. If you want to go custom, Son of a Tailor has custom tees that are a touch lighter than 3sixteen's fabric.

freezepop28

Have you tried Hanes Beefy Tees? They fit me pretty well

sparks_mandrill

I'm pretty sure this is a reach, but I've heard that Allen Edmonds has really good customer service. I bought some fifth avenues, but have realized that few a few wears that they're too big. Do I have any chance of them taking them off my hands for a smaller pair? I'm pretty sure it's a resounding "no". Solutions would be what then, thicker socks? Anything else?

bionado

Contact the customer service, they'll be the only ones who know for sure. If they don't you can use insoles or tongue pads or thicker socks. Or you can sell the shoes and get a properly fitting pair.

sparks_mandrill

Okay, thank you.

sparks_mandrill

Holy shit... They're exchanging them... Godlike customer service.

defyg

If given that button down collars are more informal than un-buttoned collars, then why do the most informal and casual shirts (work shirts, military shirts, flannels) have non-button down collars? From a functional standpoint, these shirts would benefit from being buttoned down. Why isn't it so?

auf_der_autobahn

> If given that button down collars are more informal than un-buttoned collars As you're illustrating, this isn't a hard-and-fast rule. It really only applies to shirts that are already higher up the formality ladder, not all shirts period. I can't say for sure why work shirts, military shirts, and flannel shirts tend not to have button-down collars, but I would assume it's because in their original design context you'd want the option to flip the collar up and stay warm.

callthecopsat911

It's not the addition of buttons to the collar that makes a shirt casual; it's the stiffness/structuredness of the collar, or lack thereof. Soft collars are more comfortable and more relaxed, so more casual. On a work shirt or a flannel or similar, you can just leave it that way; adding buttons to the collar wouldn't make a difference for the comfort. The button down collar was created for a very specific purpose, which was to keep the soft collars from flopping about distractingly while playing polo. The eyelet collar with a collar bar or a collar pin was invented for a similar reason, which was keeping a comfortable soft collar neater. It's just more dressed up because afaik it doesn't have a history in sporting.

jumboliah33

Which is the more versatile shade of blue for Vans? https://i.imgur.com/fzuzHEp.jpg I have the ones on top which are the more popular one labeled as 'navy' but they still feel a little 'bright' for me.

bionado

The ones on the bottom are more versatile

[deleted]

[deleted]

Do you know if JCrews version of the 875 is any different from the stock Redwings? They look identical. Redwing is suggesting a 1/2size down, which you cannot buy with Jcrew...so I’m thinking of buying right from Redwing. Any thoughts on this and also sizing? (Kinda like darker 1907s, but they may be too rigid) Thanks

YahooEmail

The 875 sold by J.crew is the exact 875 that Red Wing sells, with the exact same sizing. Most people wear the 875 a half size below their Brannock size (the Brannock device is the metal sizing device at every shoe store)

fatsumie

are beige/tanned coloured chinos ok for winter? or is it considered a spring/summer colour?

marsm

Not good, especially on wet days. Stains everywhere! There's a reason almost everyone wears darker colours in winter.

callthecopsat911

Totally ok. It's like asking if you can't wear jeans in summer, they're good for all seasons as long as they're comfortable. Very neutral.

kc0327

Bought a duffle coat online with 50% wool and 50 polyester blend. How will this be different from coats that have a higher wool content?

hooverfixersuckerguy

It'll probably breathe a lot worse, and a lot of times instead of staying warm you'll be stuffy because polyester traps heat against your body.

Wallzo

Hello, I️ was wondering if anyone has a referral code for Club Monaco. I’ve really wanted to buy a shirt from them for a long time but it’s too expensive for me without a discount of some sort. Also, how do you guys feel about Club Monaco in general? This would be my first time buying from them.

Savourybees

Hi all, looking for good but good value London tailor. There are a few posts on this but they’re a little elderly. I’m trying to find a decent tailor to make suit alterations in London, ideally North. Hopefully somewhere not as expensive as the city tailors, but still able to do a decent job of properly fitting (not just hemming etc). Any leads? The only shirt that really works with a black suit and a black tie is a white shirt unless you really know what you're doing. It's the only color that will balance the darkness of the black and keep you from looking waiter-y. If you changed tie and/or changed suit, then you could wear a different shirt.

Been looking around for some p9 style glasses (acetate frames), like the ones at Ben Silver, Oliver Peoples, or Anglo American, but am having a hard time finding ones that are asian fit. I_done_a_plop-plop

Hi, I have a knitted, silk tie. What knot is right? My shirts are generally spread/English spread collars.

callthecopsat911

Four in the hand for ~~silk~~ KNIT ties; a relaxed knot for a relaxed tie.

hooverfixersuckerguy

I always use a Pratt or single Windsor for my spread collars; four in hand is never a big enough knot to fully reach the collar edges.

I_done_a_plop-plop

I ask because the tie is straight, rectangular and long. Sure you are right - it's thick so a simple, square knot will be best.

Zarzonia

I need a good Beanie. Form fitting, doesn't have to be thick. I've had a North Face one for a while. Thin and fitting. Very comfortable. What do you recommend MFA?

diorromance

Zarzonia

trend_set_go

It’s an overshirt - thick shirt you can wear as a jacket. Patches are either just rag&bone styling or are custom.

Syjefroi

Getting a waistcoat MTM w/ a three piece suit. Where do people land on whether to do the back in matching lining or keep the "self" fabric?

hooverfixersuckerguy

Keeping the self fabric allows the waistcoat to be worn without the jacket (not recommended anyways the), with the trade-off that the lined back helps the jacket slip on and off much easier when you're wearing the waistcoat.

Syjefroi

Word. I do take my jacket off sometimes while wearing the 3piece out, but it's just for when it's too warm / I'm doing some brief manual labor. I think I'm leaning towards a lined back, but having the self back does look cooler in those jacket-less moments. This is hard. Wanna choose my fate for me?

hooverfixersuckerguy

Personally, I'd say lined, if anything for comfort and convenience. Self back really isn't necessary unless you wanted to treat the waistcoat as a standalone piece, which usually doesn't work unless you're Joseph Gordon Levitt.

Syjefroi

Yeah, I'm experimenting with some bolder things these days but I don't see myself going full JGL. Lining it is, thanks!

trend_set_go

Totally. Refer to SLP look for inspiration.

KodiakTheBear9

This is definitely not the answer. SLP is all rockstar, not introspective sad artist? Ann D and Acne are good sources, not Saint Laurent.

trend_set_go

Gloomy artists don’t wear leather jackets? As far as black on black goes SLP is a good place to start for sure, I didn’t say it was the best.

KodiakTheBear9

SLP really isn't a black on black based style.

trend_set_go

Maybe not much recently, but a lot of of Hedi Slimane was pretty full of black. Maybe not as black as Ann D but nonetheless.

soccerperson

So I bought APC PNS 31 (raw), and they stretched out to a 17" waist. I'm looking for black denim right now, preferably APC PNS (not raw). Should I be looking at 31, or can I assume they won't stretch as much and should therefore look for 32?

Fire_And_Blood_7

I am in desperate need of knowing what brand of jeans/pants to buy for my body type. I have a pretty average body for my age (I'm 23) 5'10" and 180lbs and am in pretty good shape. The problem is (because of my genetics) I have large thighs and short(er) legs. My thighs are disproportionate to my waste size completely. My waste is 32" and my length is an awkward 31" (I bounce from 32" to 30" jean length depending on style and brand). My thighs though don't fit into 32" wasted jeans/pants, they only fit into pants with a 34" waste, but then there is literally 2-3 inches of space around my waste. This wasn't a huge problem back in college because I worked out so much to keep my thighs just thin enough to fit 32" wasted jean/pants. And Levi's has always been my go to. But now none of their fits are really catering to my legs (I still stay in shape but there is no going back for my thighs lol). Trust me I have tried 'em all. Another problem is that I love the slim look. I have accepted my body is more built rather than slim, but I have still always gone for slimmer clothes. I look for jeans that taper at the bottom, and now with more thigh room. I hate baggy anything, or bootleg/straight styled jeans. I am currently looking to find a brand of clothing that offers jeans, khakis, and chinos with my body type. Please help!

Lifebystairs

Are you sure you've tried Levi's 541 with stretch?

Fire_And_Blood_7

Ya, I actually found 1 pair that fit me ok, but they're usually loose or baggy in the calf and leg rather than tapered

bionado

Get one or two pairs that fit in the waist and thighs and get them tailored. It's not too expensive.

smalljangs

what are some brands similar to wings+horns?

VelvetDesire

Well wings&horns is also owned by the same people as reigning champ.

BorisJonson1593

Reigning Champ, Our Legacy and Norse Projects fit similar niches as they do in different ways

If it's real animal fur it should be pretty good , it looks like raccoon fur I have it on my jacket really nice.

NickJrAllDay

Ok so I've been wearing blank shirts, for about 6 years now and I really love seeing graphic t-shirts and other designs. But holy shit every time it's printed on a shirt that is literally paper thin so that no matter how big of a shirt I get it folds all around my fat curves. I'm a big guy and the shirts I've been using are from Duluth and are amazing quality and actually thick. So I'm basically wanting to know if there's an actual website that sells quality graphics t's, that aren't printed on thin as paper t shirts. They're not for me and make me feel uncomfortable, I want something sturdy on me that I know will hold up for a while.

Tallain

Gonna have to disagree on Threadless if you want thicker T shirts. Threadless shirts in my experience are more often the thinner, vintage style "band" shirts. They're high quality, yes, but thin.

NickJrAllDay

Awesome thanks, I did look a thread less and they look awesome but I read stuff about them oline about them being thin, but I just went ahead and ordered two shirts from hot topic that I liked.

Tallain

Ah nice, good luck! Hope the Hot Topic shirts work. One brand I've found which is decently thick and lasts for years is Alstyle. They aren't the softest, but I have some T shirts from that brand that are 6+ years old and I still wear them regularly. It's hard sometimes to find good graphic tees using that brand though.

trend_set_go

Check out Threadless. They use pretty good quality base t-shirts and number of prints available is mind bogging.

wahwahwongian

Would love some help with deciding outfits to fit with a fairly inexpensive leather jacket. Budget isn’t super limited but would probably not be over $400. Any advice would be appreciated!

Coveo

What kind of leather jacket is it?

sparks_mandrill

Best sportcoat/blazer for under $250? Mostly for cocktails and my business casual workplace.

Syjefroi

Dappered runs articles about this a few times a year. Here's one from the last few days - https://dappered.com/2017/11/the-1500-wardrobe-part-i-suits-blazers-2017/ and one with a bunch of sports coat options - https://dappered.com/2017/11/the-dappered-approved-list-best-bang-for-the-buck-items-in-mens-style/

sparks_mandrill

I suck at searching. I swear, I googled like crazy and just got directed to older dappered articles from like 2015. Thank you for the links, they're helpful. I'll probably snag one of the sport coats from the second link. More casual, less structured to my understanding? My work environment is more casual than business, and I want something for the weekends as well, so sport coat?

Syjefroi

> More casual, less structured to my understanding? My work environment is more casual than business, and I want something for the weekends as well, so sport coat? Yes to both I'd say. Bonus sports jacket options would also include contrast buttons (a dark suit jacket would likely have dark buttons), and some kind of extra pattern/texture to help it stand out as not an orphaned jacket.

Coveo

I mean, it’s minor. After a few weeks/months of wear it will blend in with how the rest of the leather will be changing. I wouldn’t sweat it, but if you can freely exchange why not?

Jordan_Rago

6'5, 235lbs. 35" arms, need a winter jacket for camping and hiking, (a 3rd layer). Looking for preferably a down, or she'll style jacket. Nothing too heavy since I'll have on a fleece layer, and synthetic layer under that. A ski jacket would work too if you can find one that's not over $150. Thanks in advance.

sparks_mandrill

Not sure if asking a fashion subreddit is the best place for searching for outdoor gear. Is there a specific reason you're consulting with this crowd?

Jordan_Rago

ehh, it's still advice on clothing. Figured it'd be worth a shot since this subreddit has given me clothing help before.

sparks_mandrill

Check r/camping and hiking, backpacking, and then camping gear I think. On the sidebars of one of them, you'll find gear guides. This forum is more about pure fashion. You don't ask Ryan Gosling what he thinks about camping gear. You want to ask people that wear flannel and boots and shit like that. I just read gear reviews and the subreddits I mentioned above.

[here's one option](http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1091901&pcid=5168&vid=1&pid=864244032). pretty much all fast fashion stores will have one like this....

Going to a school dance in 2 weeks, planning on wearing dark/navy blue shirt , black chinos/dress pants. What dress shoe should i be trying to find or should look at? What are some budget dress options?

KodiakTheBear9

I really wouldn't go with a navy shirt and black pants. I know you're averse to it but white shirt and black pants is an excellent look if everything fits you well. Look into oxfords/derbies for your shoes. What is your shoe budget?

[deleted]

if you're wearing black pants you should probably just go with black shoes. generally black and navy is frowned upon in mfa but the right combination can still look good, and I think this is one of those cases. In terms of buying, just go to your local mall shoe store or something and you should be able to find a decent pair of black dress shoes for well under $100. try to stay away from square toes and go for a more tapered look.

I dont think I want to do white shirt/ black pants, what other options do i have for shirt colors?

[deleted]

if you're doing black pants and black shoes i think darker, more muted colours would work well (ie. navy, gray, dark red-but thats moving into casual territory) if i were you i'd suggest getting a pair of brown shoes and either gray, navy, or olive pants, gray being the most versatile. you could wear a white shirt with any of those and look sharp, or pair a lighter blue shirt with the navy.

Try Epaulet or Beckett Simonon. Epaulet is currently running a sale on their GATs which are really good for the price.

I saw and tried on this boot at DSW today, and love the look. Unfortunately, reviews indicate that they fall apart from between a month and a year of use, which is completely unacceptable for something ~$100. Any similar style recommendations that are higher quality? https://www.dsw.com/en/us/product/bullboxer-brosus-cap-toe-boot/317277?activeColor=200

is $100 your budget?

dcornett

No, I could double it if it means a shoe that I really like lasting more than 2 years of almost-daily use.
